By Grabthar's hammer what a reaction.
Dammit, lol
....what a savings?
Watch night of the living dead from 1968☺️
_Galaxy Quest_ is up there with _Animal House_ and _Airplane!_
“By Grabthar’s hammer... what a savings.” The pain in his voice could be felt through out the galaxy. Alan Rickman will always be great. 🤘🏼
Only Rickman could have delivered that heartless line and later hammer it home when his character actually meant it. A master of his craft. Im grateful we will always have him on film if not on this earth.
still too soon
One of those rare movies I never, ever get tired of rewatching because everything in it is firing on all cylinders. RIP Alan Rickman ❤
HERE HERE!
Never ever gets old! Sharon Stone and Monk all day!!
In the theater, the aspect ratio changed when the commander is first realizing that he's actually in outer space; the curtains moved and everything.
This was fantastic in the theater. When he is standing on the transport platform and the ceiling opens...the camera pulls back and the curtains pulled back as well with the stars and planets in full widescreen view. Such a fantastic way to pull the audience further in.
It actually changes twice in the film. It also changed from the old episodes ratio to real life. Then again in the big space reveal.
"...and it exploded" is still IMO one of the best-timed comedic lines in the history of comedy movies.
Jason: "Did I just hear that the animal turned inside out and then exploded?!"
Gwen: "Um... Hold, please."
That ‘hold please’ afterwards is where I lose it. Lol!
A close second is ‘OHHHHH, that’s not right!!!!’
yup. it's all in the delivery.
@@marybethgoeggel4658 And then the cheesy nod-smile of 'Roc' Ingersoll!
Sam Rockwell’s scream when first ends up on the ship gets me every time 😂
& Sigourney's flinch when he does...perfect timing, and the perfect way to show the tension being broken.
Then Monk shows up like “That was cool.”
@@brianl8481 "That was a helluva thing." :^D
and when he yells out, "Oh, that's not right!"
I watched this in the theatre with my family when I was 15.
Still one of my favorite memories.
R.I.P. Alan Rickman we shall never see his like again.
Was just going to say the same (re: Alan Rickman).
Gotta love that cast: Santa Claus, Ripley, Monk, Severus Snape, and Zaphod Beeblebrox!
Guy could have used this advice..
..Don’t Panic!
... and Agent Smith from "Deadpool" and Mrs. Beauregarde from "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory"
And the deadliest woman with a dodgeball.
And Sheriff Keith Mars.
Just saw this film. absolutely loved it, loved alan rickman in it
When do we see Your reaction to this movie on Your channel ?
@@peterschmidt4348 will be up in a few weeks!
Alan Rickman was that good of an actor, he would make you tear up with a goofy line like "by grabthar's hammer you shall be avenged'.
"To see if there's a PUB"
@@RideAcrossTheRiver Yep! That was my second favourite line from Alan Richman in this film.
@@jonesy3million26 _Galaxy Quest_ is up there with _Animal House_ and _Airplane!_
While editing the producers wanted to cut the scene where Justin Long runs out with the garbage and they believed it had been until its release and by then it was too late as the director had snuck it in. But it gives his character a bit more life grounded in reality of thousands of teens over the decades who are forced into doing something by their parents but race through it to get back to what they were doing such as video and or board games etc. It added to not only his need to help the ship and crew but feeds into his love for the show and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get back to it, which we can all relate to.
I saw this with my parents. My mom was always calling me away from a video game to do chores. I once said to her (jokingly) "You realize I'm busy saving the universe against aliens and you're asking me to take out the trash?!" Nobody laughed harder than I did when we saw this. It's like I wrote the joke! 🤣
I don't know if the writers intended it but it mirrors the scene in Wargames when Matthew Broderick's character does the same thing.
"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!" Greatest line ever!!!
Favorite lines, everything Sigourney Weaver says in the chompers scene. "It makes no logical sense, why is it here". "WELL FORGET IT, I'M NOT DOING IT. THIS EPISODE WAS BADLY WRITEN". "WHOEVER WROTE THIS EPISODE SHOUD DIE". That entire scene is brilliant.
More 'Star Trek' then any modern offerings we've had the last few years. A movie that was made with both love and care and it shows.
09 is pretty good
"Whoever wrote this episode should die!" - So many greatest lines ever.
My dad being a huge Trekkie growing up, took my sister and I to this when it first came out when I was 8. I totally thought this was based on an old show and didn’t know it was satire.
It was so good! My dad and I watch this at least every few years, quote it constantly to each other. Specially “Miners, not minors!”
If you haven’t, PLEASE react to the documentary Screen Junkies did on this “Never Surrender”. It’s so insightful to the backstory of the movie, cast and crew. Very well done.
By grabthars hammer, we miss you Alan ❤️
"Miners, not minors" is my favourite line 😂😂
"You lost me"
It's even better in french : ''Des mineurs, pas des mineurs'', the words for miner and minor are exactly the same here, to the last letter ! XD
When this came out in the theaters my friends and I quoted lines constantly while at work. Got me through so many shitty days. Never give up- NEVER surrender!
Seeing Emily's tears actually fall was just wonderful reaction material. That scene always hits SOOOOO hard. It never does not choke me up. 😪
Same. RIP Quellek. He was too good to live...
Guy's line "Can you form some kind of rudimentary lathe?" still makes me laugh. Perfect satire of a Classic Trek moment.
Fun Fact: This ship was "NTE", that was meant to stand for Not The Enterprise.
Frakes told Stewart he had to see this!
First off, between this, the alien franchise, and Ghostbusters, it was impossible for me in my youth to not crush on Sigourney Weaver. Second, I don't know if it's just 'member berries but to me this movie gets better with time.
It’s the memba berries. 😉
It isn't member berries, the movie really IS good.
Emily has such a perfect smile and contagious laugh. 😂
I know you will have seen The Orville.. right? It picks up the torch Galaxy Quest laid down and runs with it. Especially season two.
wouldnt it be nice if Star Trek wanted to pick up their own torch instead of ruining everything.
This film came out when i was 19 and now i feel like I'm 41.
Wow, times flies.
One the absolut best sci-fi comedies out there. I'll never tire of watching this, but it always makes me miss Alan Rickman
Justin Long, years after being in Conan the Barbarian, shaved his moustache and got younger just for this role 😂
That's.... almost funny. 😐
That movie is good enough to bring a tear to your eye - obscenely awesome. This such a sterling tribute that many consider it a "Star Trek" movie. "Paul" should be next, works as if it's in the same fandom universe, and it has a great cameo from the GQ cast.
"So fucking good."
Perfect review right there
This movie is a masterpiece. It really does have all the things.
True story: I hadn't seen this before, so I paused the reaction so I could watch myself. Now I am enjoying the reaction even more since I know what's going on. =D
" Don't Open that it's a Alien Planet is there air you dont know "
Crewman Guy, Sam Rockwell
My two favorite facts: 1) in theaters, everything up until the part right *before* 3:57 (where the bay doors open) was in 1.77:1 (16:9). Then, when the doors on screen open, they had the curtains in the theaters fully open to "full screen" the movie with the full 2.35:1 ratio so that the audience would (kinda sorta) feel the way that Nesmith did.
2) After viewing this, Sir Pat Stew said that it was the most accurate "Star Trek" documentary ever.
😁
George Takei said that.
George Takei:
I think it's a chillingly realistic documentary. [laughs] The details in it, I recognized every one of them. It is a powerful piece of documentary filmmaking. And I do believe that when we get kidnapped by aliens, it's going to be the genuine, true Star Trek fans who will save the day. ... I was rolling in the aisles. And Tim Allen had that Shatner-esque swagger down pat. And I roared when the shirt came off, and Sigourney rolls her eyes and says, "There goes that shirt again". ... How often did we hear that on the set? [Laughs]
Patrick Stewart:
I had originally not wanted to see Galaxy Quest because I heard that it was making fun of Star Trek, and then Jonathan Frakes rang me up and said "You must not miss this movie! See it on a Saturday night in a full theatre." And I did, and of course I found it was brilliant. Brilliant. No one laughed louder or longer in the cinema than I did, but the idea that the ship was saved and all of our heroes in that movie were saved simply by the fact that there were fans who did understand the scientific principles on which the ship worked was absolutely wonderful. And it was both funny and also touching in that it paid tribute to the dedication of these fans.
@@Alexeya13 Word. Wonder where I heard it was Stewart.
Oh well - thanks for letting me know!
DAMN YOU SUMM!!!! I WAS GOING TO SLEEP!!!!
As a trekkie this and Master and Commander are the two best Trek films since Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Master and Commander? The sailing movie with Russell Crowe?
@@jkhoover Yeah!
@@jkhoover Yep.
K
@@BrettCagwin49ers i never considered that. I will rematch that with that in mind. Thanks.
Loved it, so many great actors, we talk about Rickman, Shalhoub and Weaver but Tim Allen is still underrated.
That movie is an underrated masterpiece. It was soooo ahead of its time - nobody gave a shit about Comic con at that time. A hilarious and even poignant love letter to the classics, to fandom and to the power of fiction.
One of my all time favorites! I was lucky enough to have watched this when it came out in theaters.
i hella cried at both of the serious scenes the first time i saw this movie
i was thinking how much skill it takes to write a comedy movie so well that it can switch on a dime from funny to serious and keep the audience engaged
I remember seeing this in the cinema when it came out with a few friends that were really into the fandom convention scene and seeing them recognize themselves on screen and laughing louder than anybody else.
To think that sigourney weaver was 50 when this was made....
And missing Alan Rickman :(
I notice you’ve got a “Snatch” DVD case up on the shelf behind you...
Now Look, She wants the Hector-2 roof lights, uh, the stylish ash-framed furniture, and the scatter cushions with the matching shag pile covering, yea, Right, and she's terrible partial to the periwinkle blue boys. Have I made myself clear boys?
Yeah, that's perfectly clear Mickey, yeah. Just give me one minute to confer with my colleague.
_Did you understand a single word of what he just said?_
London?
Yeah. London.
YES! Love this movie !
Sam Rockwell getting his chops in.
" Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and "Moon" are two of my favorite movies of his.
Moon was fantastic.
if you have not, may I suggest Mr right, with Anna Kendrick.
Lawn Dogs and Safe Men are also great.
Sam Rockwell was great in the dramatic film The Way Way Back. It's a subtle but powerful performance. Steve Carrell is the villain in that movie, and totally believable as a horrible person. It's about a kid whose recently divorced mother is going out with a horrible asshole who's awful to her son. Unfortunately it's a very realistic scenario. Sam Rockwell befriends the kid and in an odd way becomes a kind of surrogate father.
@@steveneardley7541 I will definitely check that one out! Thanks!
Keeping Sigourney weaver's original line instead of "screw that" would have been one of the most perfect pg-13 f-bombs in history.
I agree 100%
Decades ago i rented the dvd for this and Dogma, not realizing Alan Rickman was in both. Was A great weekend
Never give up! Never surrender! Death scene made me cry too. Just don't tell anyone.
You guys are great! Finally, someone who showed all of Tony Shalhoub's scenes. He's the funniest character in the movie.
Love her laugh, choice appreciated.
I love that the guy who plays Mathezar, I forgot his name, played the doctor in Enterprise and in one episode just went "But Commander Archer... Never give up, never surrender."
I knew him from the hit sitcom ‘just shoot me.’ Used to love that show.
He was also in "Contagion" (the movie about the MEV-1 virus)
Sorry, they aint the same guy. Mathersar is Enrico Colantoni and Dr Phlox is John Billingsley
One of my favorite movies of all time - period.
This movie was fun because it laughs WITH the fans at tropes and cliches in the source material, as well as stereotypes in the fandom, rather than laughing AT them. Very well done.
6:30 like anyone, I will forever love the magic of this entire scene...but the thing that the logical critical minded part of me can’t ignore...is the angles and position of the ship doing the HILARIOUS grind...the position and angle of the “wing”...for the grind to work like that, the wing would be ripping and slicing through the entire structure behind them...
Perfection from start to finish.
Both the Galaxy Quest film and the reactions from Just SUMM Reactions.
The more times I watch this movie, the more I realize how brilliant it is. A witty, hilarious yet touching script, some of the best acting of their careers from an already amazing cast, and a wonderful tribute to the Star Trek franchise and fandom, simultaneously poking gentle fun yet honoring it at the same time. Too many great one-liners to count. Just... a perfect movie. Normally no matter how much I love a movie I can still nitpick a few things... but not this one. Glorious!
Cult classic, sci-fi comedy, drama and all out great film. Never a dull moment and timeless.
Had one of the greatest DVD special features as a joke I have ever seen. The language menu included Thermian. (The broken translator gag for every line of dialogue in the movie)
This video just made my day better
This movie was such a delightful love letter to Trek and it's fans.
Don't know if this is true or not, but I heard somewhere that the Thermian(?) who's part of the first contact delegation and who explains how the "matter conveyor" works to them later in the movie (Peb?) was the actor who's audition they modeled the Thermians after. He was going for the lead Thermian role, and while Enrico got that part, casting enjoyed what he did so much that he was cast as Peb and they adapted his mannerisms for the others. Definitely wanna fact check this though.
Also... RAINN WILSON! MISSY PYLE! Vernica Mars' Dad! And the rest!!! So many great actors in this movie, in lead AND supporting roles!!
Alan Rickman also did great deadpan delivery as Marvin in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
One behind the scenes fact, that should be always no. 1
After Alan Rickman (Alexander) died. They made a documentary about the Movie. Full cast and crew. They talked about, how this movie was fun and stuff, and how polite Rickman was...and Enrico Colantoni (Mathesar) (at the time of filming completly unknown) said (with a broken voice) about Alan Rickman "He was the first movie-Star, who wanted to be my friend" No more words needed...
Ya'll should watch Mystery Men. I don't know why, but I always paired these two movies together.
Rag tag group of misfits with the odds stacked against them.
@@tempsitch5632 👍agreed
"Cocaine, probably." I laughed so loudly I scared my cat off of my lap.
Loved watching your rewatch reactions to Galaxy Quest.
It’s the simple pleasures. 😆😂🤣
I love this movie. It's just about the perfect movie. The entire cast did a phenomenal job.
This is such a cute film! I know I'm going to enjoy watching it with you. Highly underrated in my book.
"And it exploded" is still in my wife and mine's vocabulary.
The aliens in this movie are such a great tribute to Star Trek fans, while at the same time making fun of the tropes that are often associated with them. The way they're so awkward while they try to copy human expressions like laughter, and how the entire plot is based around them being way too sucked into the Galaxy Quest TV show. Chef kiss, perfection.
That scene always makes me cry... you know the one.
"Can you fashion a rudimentary lathe" MUST date to antiquity!
(Also, NOBODY catches the line Guy gets while trying to pick up the intern: "But you live with your mother ...")
The greatest bit about the Thermians was that they took a TV show and produced working tech based on it, that worked, and worked exactly like the show described it. ;-)
"By Grabthar's Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged."🥲😢
And your point is?
One of my favorite lines in this movie is one that is edited. Right before the chompers you hear the line "screw this", but looking at her mouth you see her say "f*** this".
One of my favorite films.
I miss Alan Rickman so much...😪 That was the year The Green Mile and Galaxy Quest both came out and proved that Sam Rockwell is an amazingly versatile actor.
It's a sad scene, but just the delivery of "Oh, I'm shot," and then he just flops onto the floor.
It's almost 1am here and there's a new JSR out? Damn right I'm gonna watch it immediately! :D
I just love how Emily can go from laugh to cry in 0.3 seconds! I have to say that I´m one of the people that haven´t seen this movie ´cause my expectations where too low, but after waching this I have the need to see it!! Greetings from Mexico!
The appropriate response when you guys ask if a guest wants the grand tour... "AHHHHHHHHHHHHH"........
I had no idea you guys did these re-watch videos. Loved it.
“That’s an attractive lobster man.”
RIGHT??? 🤣🤣🤣
Watched a few of your videos before, but this one is the one that made me subscribe. Love you both!
Big win for a RedShirt to be given an ACTUAL role upgrade
I DIED IN EPISODE 81!! is my favorite line
I loved it when I saw it in my local cinema!it was the smallest screen they had but I really teared up as a Star Trek fan, Alan Rickman had the best line in the movie!
Funniest moment in the movie - "Oh *SCREW* that!" - though you can easily tell she didn't actually *say* "screw".
One of my all time favorite movies.
I love this film, I watched it on a whim when I would buy 3 random DVD's from WH Smith a month on payday back in the early 2000's. I was pleasantly surprised by it as I was by a few back then.
I recently watched it with a couple of younger people from my work and they loved it too which I was very happy about.
It was nice to see people laughing as much as I did and just enjoying this film, thanks for the great reaction.
Bizarre thing to say but on the day my sister eventually died from cancer, me and her husband drank a bottle of wine each and watched this movie on DVD. In some strange way it was totally the best thing we could have done. Happy and sad, always holds a special place in my heart :-)
Such an underrated movie. Alan Rickman was brilliant in this.
This is the best thing Star Trek ever did ever!
And that’s only slightly being sarcastic.
15:51 was waiting to hear the catchphrase
great movie. totally rewatchable.
Having grown up watching years of endless reruns, I have always found the reference to Gilligan's Island to be especially hilarious. It's hard to think of another TV show that is so ridiculously removed from reality; requiring such a complete suspension of disbelief. For that to be THE show that proves just how innocent and trusting the aliens are is a bit of writing genius.
my favorite piece of trivia is the way the aliens talk walk and act was all created by the actor who plays the head alien, he would do this funny voice as a voice exercise and did that voice i think during his audition then started like walking around doing that odd thin with his arms that they do when they walk and the director was like thats perfect teach that to the other actors
Galaxy Quest is what’s commonly called an “affectionate parody”.
One of the most underrated movies of all time!
"Ohh, that's not right!"
Wonderfully insane! Both the movie and the reaction! 😉
I'm so excited to watch this reaction.
