@eufus, they’re still working on doing it, even without Rickman… but with his death and then the pandemic, it’s entered into “Development Hell”… if they eventually do make it, I think they should make it in the style of the animated series of Star Trek. I could more easily forgive an animated version of Rickman’s character with a sound alike, than to recast him with a different actor.
The whole, "I'm not going to say that stupid line." actually has some basis in reality. After Star Trek ended, Leonard Nimoy felt that being in Star Trek hurt his acting career and said he was never going to say, "Live long and prosper." ever again. A few years went by and one of the first Star Trek conventions happened. Leonard did not go but a couple Star Trek alumni did. After the convention they contacted him and told him he really needed to attend one. He reluctantly agreed and went to the next one he could attend. While there he met fan after fan telling him how much his character Mr. Spock meant to them and one fan even said they were thinking of unaliveing themselves but hearing Spock say, "Live long and Prosper." caused them to stop. Also, many fans over the years told him that they decided to go into science because of Mr. Spock. Needless to say, Leonard did not have any problems saying, "That stupid line." after that.
More Star Trek than Star Trek, is what tv show The Orville was called when it started around 2018. Many trekkies had problems with Star Trek Discovery and so The Orville was much liked. Seth McFarlane made the show with this intent. Its not a spoof, by the way.
Hi Bunny, this is such a fun cool movie! and def an homage to Star Trek, their actors and their fans. It was just a really great time, getting to watch it with you. Also your Thermian impression made me chuckle, you are fun! Thanks for all the great times! Take care cute space bunny, and thanks for the fun times!
Enrico Colantoni is such a G in this. As has been said the way the Thermians speak and move was pretty much all workshopped by himself and his audition. Aside from this I know him best as Veronica Mars' dad, but he also had a great part on the show Person of Interest.
I think yours was the best reaction to Galaxy Quest I've seen yet..you caught all the Trek references. Since the invention of movies, there have been only five perfect comedies. One of them is "The Princess Bride." This is another one.
When Sarris appeared at the convention at the end, I did not think the people would be scared. I thought they would just be impressed by the alien makeup and acting.
Alexander's objection to his Dr. Lazarus character must be influenced by Leonard Nimoy's attempt to distinguish himself from his most famous role through his book, "I Am Not Spock." Later he published, "I Am Spock."
This film is a work of art. A true cinematic spectacle. It is close to perfect. Beautifuly shot, with an engaging story that keeps you gripped from start to end. Its 50 years old and has withstood the test of time. Will always be my favourite ever film.

7:45 fun fact: at this point, during the theater presentation, as the bay doors were opening to space, the aspect ratio changed from a smaller TV ratio to one that filled the entire theater screen.
It changes twice, actually. It starts in 1.33:1 (4:3) with the old TV show, then it widens to 1.85:1 (16:9) at the convention and finally widens again to 2.35:1 (21:9) as the bay doors open and stays that way for the rest of the movie.
Weaver jumped when Rockwell screamed. It wasn't in the script; she really was startled, lol! It's not fair that Jason got the credit for saving them from suffocating. Although explicit scenes were cut for the rating, Fred was high on weed the entire film.
"I thought he was worried about DYING. Now he's looking at BOOBS?" Basic male psychology. The two aren't mutually exclusive. If we're not currently thinking about boobs, just wait around for about two minutes. 😅
A really cool little detail, was when this film was in theaters, they were instructed to NOT set the curtains to full/widescreen setting when the film started. So the ratio felt a little boxed in, like you were watching a tv show. But then, at the point when Jason was being sent back home, and he's put into the gelpod, when they opened the bay doors and he saw the majesty of space in front of him, THAT was the moment they were instructed to move the theater curtains and ratio to full screen. It was an intentional choice by the director, to try and visually replicate the feeling of his "eyes being opened to the truth". And I remember being in the theater when it happened too! It was a matinee so I was the only person there, and I remembered hearing the hum of the curtain motors kick on, and saw them moving out in time with the cargo bay doors opening up. It was a really cool optical effect to expand your thoughts on the majesty of that moment for him.
It's the small touches that many folks miss in this movie that I love. "...corn fed Iowa beef" "... based on the regional menu of your birthplace." Captain Kirk was supposed to be from Iowa. "Back again after 18 years." Eighteen years is the gap between the end of ST : Original Series and ST : Next Generation. Sigourney saying "Ducts, why is it always ducts?" as a nod to the Alien franchise.
FunFact‼️ The line "Well screw that" originally was, "Well fu*k that" but they had to change it post production(you see the mouth) to stay in the PG raiting.
Enrico Colantoni(Mathezar) was a regular on "Veronica Mars" as the title character's father, a former sheriff turned private detective. He had a very different role as a guest star on "Person of Interest." I hace learned that he is in "Just Shoot Me," which I haven't watched.
To me, Galaxy Quest is the best of the Star Trek movies the way Space Balls is the best of Star Wars. They both captured, humorously, the fandoms love of the franchises.
@7:53 Remember why Gene Roddenberry came up with the transporter, and to quote, "...on a TV budget I couldn't afford to land that big mother every week."
Worked on this as an extra, one of the Thermians. Was the Goober who stood up behind Rickman after the air was let back into the room and at 12:10, 1st alien on the rt. Along with a few other quick shots. It was a month of work. Such a great time. I'm a Trekkie so this was gold. Worked on Insurrection, one of the Baku. Enterprise, The Communicator episode. Was the Goober shoving the Captain out of his cell to the gallows. Got phasered in that one, definitely a highlight. 😀
Alan Rickman’s character is angry and disappointed when they say “Commander Taggart has saved us” because they’re referring to Tim Allen’s character instead of to him!
I love that you picked up on the subtle Horta reference, not to mention remembered the name "Horta", or as I liked calling them "lava and meatball creature".
Love this film! Hey Bunny, the Thermian walk - when we walk, leg forward/opposite arm back, leg back, opposite arm forward. When they walk, it's leg forward/same side arm forward, leg back/same side arm back- it's counter intuitive. Basically, your arm on each side follows each leg on the same side (or leg follows arm on same side - same thing). Walking that way is tough enough, but running like that like they were in some scenes, well, that's why it's so funny, because it looks very odd and hard to do without screwing up even falling over! They actually had "Thermian School" where the actors playing them were taught how to walk and talk and otherwise be a Thermian, by actor Enrico Colantoni (Mathezar), who invented it all on his own.
Years ago Shatner was at my local ComicCon and I asked if he had seen Galaxy Quest, and if so what did he think of it. He totally avoided answering the question. :(
This is certainly one of the best Trek movies. And it's so meta-science-fiction as it speculates about what happened on Sigma Iotia II after Bela Oxmyx and his goons figured out how the transtator in McCoy's forgotten communicator works. 😉

@@joeb918 an animated show would be interesting.
James Doohan got a letter like that once. There is an interview with him talking about it.
Lovely story, thank you!
@@GrantWaller.-hf6jn I think all of them have gotten letters like that. But I do remember seeing that interview with James.
@@bunnytailsREACTS during the time he was exhausted by it he wrote a book called "I am not Spock" years later he wrote "I am Spock"
More Star Trek than Star Trek, is what tv show The Orville was called when it started around 2018. Many trekkies had problems with Star Trek Discovery and so The Orville was much liked. Seth McFarlane made the show with this intent. Its not a spoof, by the way.
The Orville was great and I do feel like it captured the essence of classic Star Trek in a way that some of the more modern Treks have not.
This movie is so well done, and so sweet for the fans. It's amazing how well it came together.
Hi Bunny,
this is such a fun cool movie! and def an homage to Star Trek, their actors and their fans. It was just a really great time, getting to watch it with you. Also your Thermian impression made me chuckle, you are fun! Thanks for all the great times! Take care cute space bunny, and thanks for the fun times!
Glad you enjoyed it!
"I loved the Thermites, the Thermians, whatever the alien race was called ..."
The correct answer is Termites, or Dalmatians.
When Sarris appeared at the convention at the end, I did not think the people would be scared. I thought they would just be impressed by the alien makeup and acting.
Well, if a large spacecraft crashed into a sci-fi convention area, it would be a mixed reaction.
Alexander's objection to his Dr. Lazarus character must be influenced by Leonard Nimoy's attempt to distinguish himself from his most famous role through his book, "I Am Not Spock." Later he published, "I Am Spock."
More trek then trek! I bloody adore this film.
This film is a work of art. A true cinematic spectacle. It is close to perfect. Beautifuly shot, with an engaging story that keeps you gripped from start to end.
Its 50 years old and has withstood the test of time. Will always be my favourite ever film.
19:43 yeah, he's stoned through the whole movie, that's why
😯
Winston Churchhill of the UK originally said, "Never give up. Never surrender. Never, never, never, never." This was in a speech of his during WW2.
He also starved millions of Bengalis and treated the Irish like second class citizens, but that's another story.
@@TroyConvers5000 Oh is it random free association time?! Begal is where tigers come from and the Ireland had a potato famine!
@@mallninja9805 bore off, you know nothing; do your research on his racism, his views on Gandhi, advocating for the use of poison gas on the Afghans, his latent anti-Semitism, attitudes against Islam, his disgraceful treatment of the Tonypandy strikers, his meddling in Police operations in the Sidney Street siege. Shall I go on?
Churchill was a bastard, but thankfully we needed a bastard to fight dirty against Hitler.
But that doesn't stop Churchill being a bastard. A war hero, a saviour of the free West, but still a nasty bastard. Both things are true.
"thought he was worried about dying, now he's lookin' at boobs." Well, i mean yeah, why wouldn't you if you were about to go out horribly.
EDIT:
Here i thought i was done, then we got the Bunny Thermian walk/grin. My day is complete.
This might well be the most geeked-out, fun reaction to the film I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The bathroom scene is based on a real event that happened to William Shatner after the series ended.
My favorite line comes from your reaction: "Don't listen to those UA-cam comments!" at 4:15.
Good advice!
The main bad guy just got knocked out by the.walking stick that is why he was not dead
By Grabthor's hammer, what a savings.
"I thought he was worried about DYING. Now he's looking at BOOBS?"
Basic male psychology. The two aren't mutually exclusive. If we're not currently thinking about boobs, just wait around for about two minutes. 😅
To be fair, looking at boobs can definitely distract one from other worries...
The Thermian manner of speech and their funny walk was actually the Mathazar actor's idea.
That Mathazar actor is Enrico Colantoni, who was a regular on the comedy series Just Shoot Me, as well as Veronica Mars' father on that series.
@@scapevelocityThanks for that. I forgot the actor's name.
"...corn fed Iowa beef" "... based on the regional menu of your birthplace."
Captain Kirk was supposed to be from Iowa.
"Back again after 18 years."
Eighteen years is the gap between the end of ST : Original Series and ST : Next Generation.
Sigourney saying "Ducts, why is it always ducts?" as a nod to the Alien franchise.
FunFact‼️
The line "Well screw that" originally was,
"Well fu*k that" but they had to change it post production(you see the mouth) to stay in the PG raiting.
Enrico Colantoni(Mathezar) was a regular on "Veronica Mars" as the title character's father, a former sheriff turned private detective. He had a very different role as a guest star on "Person of Interest." I hace learned that he is in "Just Shoot Me," which I haven't watched.
I always liked “Oh that’s not right…”
😁
To me, Galaxy Quest is the best of the Star Trek movies the way Space Balls is the best of Star Wars. They both captured, humorously, the fandoms love of the franchises.
My favorite subtle thing, before activating the Omega-13, everyone on the bridge gets shot, EXCEPT Guy... 🤣🤣🤣
It was nice to see that they appreciate the fans rather than making fun of them.
First Contact, Insurrection, and Galaxy Quest are the top 3 Trek movies
The Thermians walk like the marionettes in a Gerry Anderson produced series like Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5.
Your TOS references are getting spooky good. Welcome to the club :)
Alan Rickman’s character is angry and disappointed when they say “Commander Taggart has saved us” because they’re referring to Tim Allen’s character instead of to him!
I got confused about the character names! They did Alexander wrong!!
“I know! You construct a weapon. Look around, can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?”
😂😂😂😂
This is the first of your reactions I've ever seen, so I almost choked on my popcorn when you dropped that Commander Shepard quote.
I love that you picked up on the subtle Horta reference, not to mention remembered the name "Horta", or as I liked calling them "lava and meatball creature".
And now that you've seen Galaxy Quest, you're ready to see the first episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.
The thing is lots of scientists grew up watching Star Trek and decided to make the science real!
Engineers as well.
"That's no corbomite, that's the real deal." Spoken like a true Trekkie!
🐰🐇🐰🐇 greatest tribute movie ever made. I shed a tear everytime I watch it.😊
Love this film!
I think the thing that I enjoyed the most about this reaction was watching you get more and more into the movie as it kept going. 😎👍🏽
thoroughly enjoyed this reaction vid -- and the fact that you had a great time while also catching all the references was pure gold
21:35 It’s a common mental exercise amongst men. He’s trying to distract his mind away from an unpleasant thought by looking at something pleasant.
Talking of Mass Effect, the actor who plays Sarris also voiced Zaeed Massani.
Ohh that's awesome!
