the whole movie shows us that Alexander hates his role as the campy doctor Lazuras his catch phrase sickens him and he sees it as cheesy poorly written dribble unfit for a theatrically trained actor as himself... but when the thermian who idolized him is dying in his arms it becomes the most poignant thing to say nd he delivers it with every ounce of heartfelt effect.. it is the most bittersweet moment that truly shows his character..
Star Trek fans ADORE this movie. It's a loving parody. We love it so, so much. At least I do and my fellow Trek fans I know do. I really hope that you watch Fifth Element and the earlier Trek movies.
I don't know if it is still up here, but I once saw a video of the transporter accident in "Star Trek - The Motion picture" with some editing and overdub. When Kirk asks the Starbase: "Starfleet - do you have them?" They left in the part "Enterprise... What we got back didn't live long" and then they dubbed in, as a backround voice through the com system, the guy from Galaxy quest "It turned inside out. And it exploded!" The cut to Kirks face made it really hillarious then. 😄
This movie is one of the best ever made. Sigourney Weaver capitalizes on her fandom with "Alien" absolutely perfectly in this. The most low-key line delivery was, "What if he returns?" "Oh, I doubt that. I gave him BOTH cannons."
Johnathan Frakes confirmed that more than a few of the characters in this were based on the real actors of the next generation. "I won't say that line anymore, I was in shakespear!" is a roast of Patrick Steward and always having to say "Engage" at conventions. Stuff like that, its funny.
I adore this film. Probably one of my top 10s of all time. Also, really underappreciated performance by Sam Rockwell as Guy. "Hey, don't open that! It's an alien planet! Is there air? You don't know!"
21:00 - You mean Ashe, the robot? No, that's not him. But the blonde girl (Gwen DeMarco) is played by the same actress who played Ripley in all the Alien movies. Honestly the best parody films, are not just about mocking the flaws or making fun of something, but also having love and respect for the material as well.
Black Dynamite (2009) for blaxploitation films, Young Frankenstein (1974) for 1930s Frankenstein movies, The Big Bus (1976) for all-star disaster movies and Galaxy Quest (1999) are such parody movies that respect the movies they parody. Westerns have both Blazing Saddles (1974) and Rustler's Rhapsody (1985). There are plenty others missing from this list but each of these stand head and tails above "parodies" like the late 2000's Disaster Movie, Epic Movie and Meet The Spartans where the entire movie is made up of pop culture references and dance offs.
Someone has probably said it already, but the bathroom scene where Jason hears people talking about how they're all washed-up actors living on the coattails of a popular show was based on an actual experience William Shatner had at a 'con in the 80's, if I remember correctly.
Ah man, what a great movie. You're absolutely right about how accessible it is. When I saw it in theaters I was totally unfamiliar with Star Trek but the idea of sci-fi actors having to go on an actual sci-fi adventure is so easy to get on board with
From what I understand, the director was so impressed with Enrico Colantoni 's take on the Thermians during his screen test that he was not only hired on the spot, but instructed all the other actors hired to play the Thermians to get with Enrico and learn what to do.
One of them became Elias in Person of Interest and another was "agent Smith" in Deadpool. Watching both I had weird feeling and didn't realize until I rewatched Galaxy Guest.
Trek fans love Galaxy Quest as it was made with genuine affection and knowledge of the original Star Trek's cast dynamics as well as the fandom around the show. Plus it's also just a really fun adventure movie in its own right. Shame we never got a sequel or the TV show which nearly happened.
If you know Trek, this is a brilliant movie full of in jokes from Tim Allen's ego to Sigourney's vinyl wig. And if you don't know Trek it's one of the all time best comedies. The plot needs a word for ludicrous that we have never invented, but the characters are completely serious. Perfect. Special mention for Sigourney's 'Why is it always ducts?' Alan Rickman's expression when a Thermian crewman announces: 'Commander Taggart has saved us!' Tony Shaloub's expression when Laliari lets her tentacles out. Still laughing.
I am so sorry about Bernini, I see the kitty made an appearance in this episode. I love all the animals, even ones I never met that I just see on UA-cam. My heart goes out to you, it's so hard to lose a pet.
This was very entertaining. :D After seeing your reaction to Galaxy Quest, I'm absolutely sure you would love the Firefly TV-show (14 episodes + final movie).
I honestly saw this in theaters for just after my 13th birthday. I appreciate A LOT more now, since I marathoned all 800 plus Trek episodes and films. As well as learning things like 1 NSE in the NSEA Protector stands for NOT STARSHIP ENTERPRISE. 2 Tim based his performance on Shatner himself (as he's a HUGE Trek fan). 3 that line about the TV guide interview actually happened to Jeri Ryan when she joined the Voyager cast in the show's 4th season
Such a great movie to watch in general, but especially after Star Trek. Sam Rockwell was just so good in this. Everyone was. Really excited for this reaction.
This is one of my favorite movies. They were actually supposed to make a Galaxy Quest tv show for real but Daryl Mitchell got paralyzed and Alan Rickman passed away.
One of my favorite things about a movie like this is that it's part parody and part love letter to the source. This one strikes a really good balance between the two.
First off, as a life-long Trekkie, I love this movie, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it too. It's easily one of the best love-letters any fandom has ever received. Secondly, I'm very sorry to hear about Bernini. You have my condolences, Marijchu. One of life's great inequities is that our 4-legged companions age so much faster than we do, and saying goodbye is so very, very hard. Peace and love be with you in this difficult time.
@@itzbp9949 This film is much closer to what Star Trek is supposed to be than travesties like the J.J. Abrams films or Discovery. Same with The Orville; best Star Trek series since DS9 or even TNG, despite it also being "just a pisstake of star trek".

Your laugh when the alien female spoke gibberish when her translator was broken was fantastic! So fun watching your reaction. It was also lovely to see Bernini’s final curtain call. What a good cat. My sincere condolences, Mari.
I've been a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars and SciFi in general for decades... and this is one of the most awesome films ever made. I think i've never met a fan who doesn't love Galaxy Quest.
Even the creators of Galaxy quest say, its not so much about the parody, but about the fans and the validation of the fans' fanboi-ish-ness or obsession with the details of the genre/episodes.
I'm sure you know this by now but this movie in particular is satirizing the cast of the original Star Trek. A lot of the character attributes were taken directly from the Star Trek actors.
So no one is gonna tell Mari that Gwen was played by Sigourney Weaver? Mari, maybe you will get to see Sigourney later in her other films like Alien, Aliens, Gorillas In The Mist or Ghostbusters.
I would say spoof or lampoon before I went with mocking. It's obvious the writers & producers loved the show very much; the fandom as much as the show itself. P.S. Love the cat. he looks so comfortable.
Very glad to see you react to this movie especially after the recent Star Trek movies. Makes for a nice contrast. I think this movie gets overlooked by many reactors. Good job to those who suggested it and you giving your fans a chance to enjoy.
What Galaxyquest is to Star Trek, Three Amigos is to old time silent western films. Galaxyquest is the best of this type of story but Three Amigos is also very very good!
18:00 Something funny that not a lot of people notice on first viewing is that while we clearly hear Gwen saying "Well, screw that", her lips don't match what she's saying. That's because Sigourney Weaver had to dub over her own dialogue after the decision was made to tone down the profanity in the film.
It was bittersweet watching you get to spend time with your sweet kitty on screen here. Know you provided him a wonderful life. Thank you for your channel.
Actually the people behind the movie were Star Trek fans themselves. This movie was made with love so it wasn't mocking the fans. It let us feel like we were a part of the crew. A large portion of Trekkies love the movie and have considered this part of Star Trek. There's a documentary on this that's really awesome and worth a watch if you're interested.
"If you go to a convention you're supposed to like it, no?" Yes, but that doesn't mean you like all the actors equally, or that you don't recognize their faults. Some actors are notorious for their enormous egos, and that's who Tim Allen is playing.
It's... 'affectionate satire'--it pokes fun at celebrity, fandom, the 'divide' between TV series acting and stage acting, and so much more. I've never thought much of Tim Allen, as a person, a 'comedian' or as an actor, but in this movie, while IMHO just playing himself a lot, he also genuinely 'acted' too---I give him credit for that. The screenplay and script are just brilliant, and Tim Allen doing a very good job in his role IMHO helped the 'real actors 'of this cast --Sigounrey Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, and Tony Shaloub ( and the supporting actors were all great too). This movie could have been an embarrassment for all, and just a pay-check between more significant 'gigs', but IMHO it's as close to a 'perfect' movie of its type that you can find.
Awesome reaction video. This movie did moderately well at the theaters but it became a cult classic. Everyone wanted a sequel. As of Jan this year Tim Allen says that the Galaxy Quest 2 script is fabulous but because of Allan Rickman (Dr. Lazarus) passed away that the movie would've been around those two characters... right now it's in a holding pattern. Personally I don't think it will happen.
I hope they'll continue with a full-as-possible ensemble. This one brought in an unStarTrekian Sam Rockwell and the 'alien babe', so why not install another character or two. Of course, there have been other Vulcan characters in the Star Treks so maybe we've have that species represented again. But I'd be disappointed to hear this is a Tim & Sig Show. Good writing solves all, though...
At first I was wondering if you were asking what "Alka-Seltzer," was. "Plop-Plop, fizz-fizz oh what a relief it is.... (it's an old American antacid you drop in water)." Anyway loved your reaction, this is a great movie. It starts out silly but does have some wonderful heart felt moments like when Dr. Lazarus give his line toward the last to the dying crew member who idolized him, he realize that what he said actually had meaning and for the first time he felt it. Can't wait for your next reaction....Have a great evening, day, whatever....Stay safe.
a fun movie and being a hardcore Star Trek fan, just cant stop grinning and laughing along with it. Knowing how the stars from the original series felt about the conventions, especially at first makes the parody even better.
I think fans of the 1960's Star Trek get another layer out of this. There was always said to be arguments between actors over certain things and in reality I think everyone has faults in some things, so people will argue no matter what. But for Star Trek fans, they could see the poking of fun at the actors drama off-screen. I kind of liked it because it gave a sci-fi movie a very real sense of the characters being actual people. I really did love the concept that the aliens did not understand the concept of 'TV entertainment.' You have to wonder, if an alien species did see broadcasts from Earth with the news mixed in with the fantasy of soaps, movies and adverts, it would seriously confuse them without a frame of reference to understand what is real and what is performance. The cast was great and I liked the fact that they drew from a mix of veteran sci-fi actors mixed with people who are not known for acting in the genre. Sarris' actor had been in Babylon 5, Star Trek Voyager and Mass Effect. Sigourney Weaver is one of the definitive sci-fi faces, simply from Alien. Sam Rockwell had never really been in sci-fi before this, but it lead into him being in one of the most interesting sci-fi movies I have ever seen, 'Moon'. Then you have Alan Rickman who only ever really did anything space sci-fi in this movie. The same can be said for Tim Allen, unless you count Buzz Lightyear in the genre. So yeah, loved the cast. Galaxy Quest for me was a great one-and-done movie that commented on science fiction from fans, non-fans and actors points of view. It was a really interesting self-contained movie. I hope they never revisit it or remake it because it worked and said what it needed to say.
Hi there, I thought I’d add my thanks for ur quirky movie reviews which I’m very much enjoying. Little me also my condolences with regards to Bernini. Ive really been enjoying seeing the cats making occaisional appearances, however B was nearly always in the background kneeling her bed or dozing quite fitfully. I’ve also lost a loved puss or two over the years. Never an easy time losing such a dearly loved member of the family. It just sucks 🥺
It is nice seeing someone curl up under a blanket while watching movies. I find it makes things so much more enjoyable. Also, Alan Rickman is fantastic. Like all the best dumb movies, it has a great cast giving 100%.
My late aunt was a lifelong Trekkie, grew up on the Original Series. She *loved* this movie. 2009 Star Trek not so much....she hated that they messed with the timeline and blew up Vulcan.
There's an amazing documentary called "Never surrender" on Prime. The actors talk about their experiences shooting the movie, and their interactions with fans. I think you would enjoy it.
Some of the interview-segments are on UA-cam, but none capture the full documentary's magic and completeness. There are tearful recollections of Alan Rickman, too, so bring tissues.
Sigourney Weaver’s wardrobe alteration at the end takes my breath away. So taken was I, that i decided to investigate. In a scene they left out, Gwen tries to distract a couple of bad guys by unzipping her uniform top. It’s a well known science fiction fact that all intelligent life in the universe (and some not so intelligent) are physically attracted to earth girls.
Very cool reaction...it is true what you mention; whether you are a sci fi fan or not; this movie speaks to everyone. Very few people indeed react to this movie, really enjoyed u having fun with the humor.
That hillside home shown early on is a famous Los Angeles/Hollywood landmark, built by a renowned architect. It is often used for filming and photography. Within the context of this parody of a movie, that house may have been used as part of the parody.
Many Star Trek fans have accepted Galaxy Quest as an unofficial part of the Star Trek franchise, and one of the better ones, at that. We know when a movie laughs with us, not at us.
20:59 The actor who plays Fred is Tony Shaloub. He is best known for his starring role on the eccentric detective TV series MONK. I never would have though he looks like Ian Holm from ALIEN, but looking at him here I can see some similarities in their facial features.
As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I can confirm that no Trekkies were harmed in the making of this movie. Every Star Trek fan I know loves it.
And some Star Trek Actors (Wil Wheaton, Brent Spiner) have been quoted as also saying this was fantastic.
@@ChannelReuploads9451 That's awesome, didn't know that.

The guy/android you meant from Alien, does play a big part in The Fifth Element (1997)! 🥰✌🏼
By Grabthar's hammer, I'm so happy Mari watched this movie
a fun movie and being a hardcore Star Trek fan, just cant stop grinning and laughing along with it. Knowing how the stars from the original series felt about the conventions, especially at first makes the parody even better.
aaawww, the video just started and there is the first gut punch already.... rest in peace little buddy 😢
I loved how Fred was stoned most of the movie!
Mari, the way you reacted to the Thermians speaking their native tongue absolutely CRACKS ME UP!!!!
I love how she always has her blanket and a super cute laugh.
I lover her laughs and even her snorts. lol. It's adorable.
Bernini she stayed by you through most of the video. I'm so very sorry for your loss 😔😔
Extremely fun watching you enjoy this movie.
My goodness Mary, I have seen this reaction before, but watching you laugh helplessly has brightened my whole morning.
Among Star Trek fans, it's considered one of the best Star Trek films!
Galaxy Quest! I'm so tempted to splurge on your patreon for this full reaction. Love this movie!
Your cat looks so amazingly chill on that chair!
It is nice seeing someone curl up under a blanket while watching movies. I find it makes things so much more enjoyable. Also, Alan Rickman is fantastic. Like all the best dumb movies, it has a great cast giving 100%.
Your reaction reminded me of how much I love this movie. Thank you.
Thank you very much for the "open mind" for new films!
btw, i like your cute accent. 😊
Greetings from Germany 👋
BestGQ reaction - done by someone who understood the references and truly "got it." Well done!
I love your stuff! Especially your snorting and your giggling :D
Very cool reaction...it is true what you mention; whether you are a sci fi fan or not; this movie speaks to everyone. Very few people indeed react to this movie, really enjoyed u having fun with the humor.
The desert planet was filmed in Goblin Valley, Utah. All the rock formations are natural.
That hillside home shown early on is a famous Los Angeles/Hollywood landmark, built by a renowned architect. It is often used for filming and photography. Within the context of this parody of a movie, that house may have been used as part of the parody.
And introducing
Guy Fleegman
As
Security Chief Roc Ingersoll
Love this movie. Lol
By Grabthar's Hammer.. what a reaction!
Just replace "By Grabthar's Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged" with "Live long and prosper" and you get Leonard Nimoy.
That's pretty much stretching it a bit too much.
Many Star Trek fans have accepted Galaxy Quest as an unofficial part of the Star Trek franchise, and one of the better ones, at that. We know when a movie laughs with us, not at us.
This is by far my favourite Star Trek movie!!
Berrini looks so cute in the back! Awww
Supposedly the stall room scene was based on a real experience William Shatner had.
20:59 The actor who plays Fred is Tony Shaloub. He is best known for his starring role on the eccentric detective TV series MONK.
I never would have though he looks like Ian Holm from ALIEN, but looking at him here I can see some similarities in their facial features.
same! After Mari said that I was like "Wait omg she is right!"
Note: Guy Fleegman in Galaxy Quest is played by Sam Rockwell, who played Captain Klenzendorf in JoJo Rabbit.
