I found LLB one night while cruising UA-cam for classic rock, and I was hooked immediately. Their attention to detail, lack of "gimmicks" and emotion they lace into their music is magnetic. This year was my first time seeing them live at the annual concert, but God willing, will not be the last. The place was packed, and yet seemed like a big family event. 50 plus musicians, but no egotistical presence. Just a big community of musicians giving all they had to the work. GREAT celebration, and a very fast 3 hours that could have been 10, and I believe everybody would have stayed. Thanks for "covering" the cover band of the century.
That's how I found them, Everyone I have showed their videos to, ❤ love them. Not only am I a fan now the people who I showed their videos to,are fans too
I've been subscribed to the Lab's channel almost since day one. I agree that they are the best cover band around. It confounds me how they don't have at least a million subscribers.
I’ve listened to Lexington Lab Band for years. I’ve been a musician all my life. Played in several bands. Played drums since 1967. These people are great musicians. Really clean and remaining true to the music.
Mike's mixing and editing talents are also a huge part of LLB's attraction, too! It's just amazing how many great musicians he can bring together on these collaborations: Are they professional session musicians, pros like Roger Coleman or just a fantastic collection of everyday people who are very good at their hobby, be it vocals or instrumentals, do they travel to participate or just local? Doesn't matter, it's as good as it gets.
LLB is a musician's band. They often will improve upon the original material because they record it with modern instruments and equipment. The musicians are absolute pros and their philosophy of 'configuring' the band specifically for the material to be played is a winner. Easily the best 'tribute' band in America.
Check out their Aussie counterparts Hindley Street Country Club. They are very similar and do the old stuff. Absolutely killer like LLB. I'm sure you will like them as well.
Talking about bringing new people into the community, Austin on keyboards is amazing, especially when Mike related he told him to take 3 weeks or so to learn a part and he called back in a few days with his rendition down pat. Then he shows up a few videos later playing acoustic guitar...
Same here. I live on youtube (for music) and the algorithms never once directed me to either LLB or HSCC. That is messed up (for me) that these groups have been around this many years that I've missed out on. I'm gonna ck out this Trout Show channel. It looks good
I can tell you how I feel when I hear an old song. For me, songs are time travel. Classic rock songs that I like, instantly take me back to time that the song was new, especially done in the quality your band plays them. I litterally find myself back in time especially if I'm laying in my bed at night, it keeps me young at heart. I'm 68 and when hear a song that say came out in 1978 it takes me back to like the summer of 1978, I actually find myself in my dreams going back to that date in my life which was my early 20s, or in the 90s when I was a dad of my four young daughters and my young son. I've had a super awesome life and no matter what era music helped tie it all together. I have a very large varied genres in my music library. What you guys do is do is time travel and, try this sometime put on a quality pair of headphones and put on any song in your own catalog, especially if you've had long hard day. The music will transport you back to the first time you heard it! It's magical!
It is the players, the singers and the drummer; in words they are the full package with the camera presentation 10/10. We need more to drown out the other current garbage.
No kidding.Sound awesome. If you could see them live, you would hear almost all of your favorite songs, played perfectly. They are spot on outstanding.
My absolute favorite cover band for their diversity of music and attention to getting it spot on. My absolute favorite cover band for Chicago music is Leonid and Friends from Russia who also strives for spot on recreation note for note.
I love listening to music. I love playing music. I have played keyboards in a wedding band and have played tenor sax in a concert band for going on 50+ years. I understand the interactions between players during playing! And it is pure joy! Listening to LLB and watching them, I now recognize faces, voices, and some mannerisms. And I pick up on some subtle smiles and nods. And they ADD to my listening experience and my joy because I am sharing in their fun while loving what I am listening to. And in some cases I like your version better than the original. But even there, listening to LLB broadens my interest such that I listen more to bands that I previously ignored. For all this, I am grateful. Thank you so much. Working on a way to see LLB live, taking my RV down from Boston. Best wishes to you all!
I prefer to be able to watch music being played, these guy's have taken this to whole new level, definitely the best cover band in the world,i now listen to these songs over the originals,as a still learning drummer these videos have been absolutely invaluable.
Mike V. - Yes nostalgia but also we get to SEE the instruments in key points and hooks. Your enthusiasm is worth it too. No ego is correct - just community connection. God bless you all. - Big 71 year old guy/fan.
Enjoyed the interview, I’m 67 yrs old and the baby boomers want to listen to the 70’s/80’s music when music was great! Unlike now with all the beats, drum machines but real musicians playing great music. Nashville area, Log Cabin Studios. Keep jamming man👏👏
Agree one of the best cover bands in America. Wish they would tour beyond Lexington, KY. I think they would enjoy playing Red Rocks near Denver. Another great cover band I enjoy is Leonid and Friends. But Lexington Lab Band is just fantastic.
One of the things I love about LLB is watching the interaction of each of the musicians, like how they play a riff that I have heard but never seen, how they smile and nod at each other after a well-played segment, and the fact that each and every song they do looks like they are absolutely having a blast doing this. I love to watch musicians truly enjoy their work.
I discovered LLB five or six years ago here on YT. I fell into a rabbit hole, chatted with Dale, and came out to see them from the UK! They're absolutely amazing live! I just got home this past Monday from my third time seeing them. Over 50 musicians playing over 30 songs really well!
For my money, they are Fabulous! I am a professional drummer myself. I have a pretty good handle on great musicianship. This group of pro's are as good as you get. Vandy is a genious. I love Lex Lab Band!!
LLB is great. Their counterparts in Australia are Hindley Street Country Club, who are a collective that covers the old stuff with different singers and musos tho with a core group. They are at least on the same level as LLB. Both groups are resurrecting the classics from the 70s on and doing them arguably even better than the original artists. Both have a deserved growing following. Kudos LLB from an Aussie. 🙂
Check out the " Singit Live" channel! They are Awesome! Not sure if they are a band but they share alot of musicians with HSCC! I Check out their cover of Rosanna by Toto! Way better than HSSC version!
I view the LLB covers over and over. Rock and roll revived during the late 1970's and 1980's and they cover the music of this period better thqn anyone anywhere.
For me it is the ability to watch a high quality video of the songs they cover, there are very few videos of the original bands that focus on musicianship of the players, it's the crowd or the focus is on the vocalist prancing down the stage. Lex Lab showcase the musicianship in spades!
The short answer is yes, they are best cover band. I really like that they cover many different genres of music and do it great. Maybe someday they will do some original music of their own.
LLB is the gold standard for cover bands. Others are good, but in my opinion the others are all battling for runner up. Seeing them live is amazing. Make your way to Kentucky in early September for their yearly show and you’ll be glad you did.
I must say that I've not heard all the cover bands but everything they do is really fantastic. Everything from the musicianship and the teamwork to the video production values - and everything in-between - is remarkably good. They are wonderfully generous in sharing what is obviously their love of music.
A great interview and telling the story as you do. This band has always been so awesome and you did it justice with this piece. Great job, and well done.
Agree 100% they are the best Cover band and just a fantastic band period…. Been following for a couple years now…thanks for the great music I grew up on!! Hi from Nashville…..
I'm one of their subscribers. I refer to them as an "enhancement" band, every tune they play, it musicaly sounds better, and vocals are spot on but obviously may not be exact, only because the obvious, not the original singer, but absolutely the best "covers" out there.
LLB is my go to when I clean the house on the weekend. I just go to their channel on You Tube on the big TV and sound system, crank it up , and let it play. From Ted Nugent to Steely Dan - they are covering all my favorite classic rock tunes - and doing a dang good job of it. Michael has a great voice, and the music is always spot on.
Can't remember that band out of Australia, that has a similar amount of musicians, considered the past decade the "world's best cover band"--noted by people like Elton, Stevie Nicks, Kiss, etc. for their exact, or even better, "reproductions" of hits from the 50's-through today...
I discovered the LLB during the Covid year while just looking for something on you tube to listen too. I just could not believe how good they are. As a musician I can appreciate the complexity of some of the songs they perform but most of all I just really like their attitude towards the music and as difficult as some of the songs they perform are, they keep as simple and close to the original as possible. Thank You LLB and keep it coming and Thank You Rick for the interview with Michael ( Vande) My goal when I retire next year is to hook up my camper trailer and haul it to Lexington and attend a live show.
I have been watching the LLB for years and enjoy everything they put out and the degree of accuracy in the covers they do. They seem to be great down to earth people who appreciate their fans and the music they produce. I believe they are the best cover band in the U.S.
I first heard of these guys through a cover of "Waiting for a Girl Like You" last year. I was in awe of how good they sounded, and since then, I've loved their covers of REO Speedwagon, Joe Walsh, Bryan Adams and U2, to name a few. They are the real deal, when it comes to really good cover bands, and they do a great job of reincarnating the original versions as close as possible.
Same here. Saw them do that song recently on UA-cam and it was excellent. They and Hindley Street Country Club over in Australia are putting out some fantastic renditions of the old stuff that so many love. It's a real trip with these two groups and how good they are.
Great interview Mike. The main reason that I listen to you folks is that most of my favorite bands are either retired or deceased. Most all of the cover bands on YT don't do the exact cover like you do. Thank you for every thing you do. God bless you.
Why are people head-over-heels for your music? I can tell you my POV: the original bands are aging out, and while their music videos are still available for the most part, you know that they are personally not around. Found these during lockdown and was blown away due to the fact they do a lot of my fave bands , however are they the best cover band in America I would say is debateable . What about Band Geeks or HSCC , who are both also from the U.S.A and both excellant .
They are the best cover musicians that I have heard online. By far.
It's not a cover band ! They are perfectionists perfecting fantastic music perfectly !
I agree - they're beyond a cover band. More like a music project.
@@MrHamAndPrepper they cover OTHER people's music. Hence....COVER BAND. You leftist gas lighter, you.
On top of their perfect playing, the quality of the recordings make it more enjoyable to watch than some of the originals.

Yes I listen to 60’s thru late eighties. Don’t care much about this rap generation stuff. Well maybe 3 or 4 songs!
Glad, what was your first video?....for me I was looking at Toto's I'll be over you on youtube and saw the LLB rendition, and I was hooked...
That's how I found them, Everyone I have showed their videos to, ❤ love them. Not only am I a fan now the people who I showed their videos to,are fans too
The best cover band in America? I recon the best cover band anywhere!! Absolutely superb!
Nobody can cover Steely Dan. Somebody just did! The music we listened to when we dated in the 70’s. Awesome!
i think they are the
greatest cover band ever. i view them almost daily.
I love watching the musicians play And the memories plus the unbelievable vocals n harmonies are just min blowing 😂

Yes they are extreamly talented!!! 😊
My favorite band, when I hear you’re playing it makes me feel life a teenager again and I’m 70. Thank you
I’ve listened to Lexington Lab Band for years. I’ve been a musician all my life. Played in several bands. Played drums since 1967. These people are great musicians. Really clean and remaining true to the music.
I ran across this band by chance three years ago and have been addicted ever since. For once the YT algorithm did good.
I am addicted and so is my wife. We love LLB
They just don’t play this music on the radio anymore, what a true statement! A lot of people love this older music and want to hear it. Great job LLB
I've been attending their annual concerts in Lexington every labor day for the last 5 or 6 years! LLB is awesome!!!
Mike's mixing and editing talents are also a huge part of LLB's attraction, too! Best I ever heard they are the best
I love it when it is so obvious that they love playing together and their visiting artists get it and it shows everytime.
Bought a camper and drove down to see them and will be every single year they have a show from here on.
There is no band consistently better at covers than Lexington.
I would pay to see them play
