I have these on my Sawstop and use them regularly, but they do have their limitations as all tools do. I don’t believe they need to be over sold, they work well, but the aren’t perfect or absolute when holding stock such as large sheets of plywood against the fence. When you, or anyone else, say that you can run a full sheet of plywood and it “ensures” it stays against the fence, you’re giving people the idea that these just suck the plywood into the fence and hold it there, it just isn’t like that. I was very disappointed by mine because I believed all the hype people were saying like that to find it wasn’t so. I mean think about it, if the rubber wheels could push down and in hard enough to hold the 4x8 sheet of plywood against the fence, you wouldn’t be able to push through to cut it! I called the very nice people at JessEm to discuss my frustration, we talked about what it can and can’t do and more realistic idea of what to expect from the clear cut stock guides. They sent me a set of new tires which helped a lot being mine must have been old from setting on the shelf too long. I bought another stock guide, so my setup has three, two before the saw blade and one after it. As said before, I use them regularly and like them a lot, I just want anyone who is looking to buy a set to know they aren’t magic and at $200 it may not be for everyone.
I agree with a lot of that. They are a useful addition. To be fair I said they would assist in keeping large pieces against the fence.
I purchased these after watching your channel. I’m stunned more people don’t use them. I immediately noticed a difference in the consistency and accuracy of my cuts. I’d normally use my track saw but on a dresser I’m building I used these instead for a long rip and it was dead on. I also bolted them to my Sawstop PCS fence. I really don’t get the reservation some have, especially considering they can be removed and IMHO should be on the saw most of the time. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome
Spot On Video! I have this on my table saw and it's a must when cutting up larger material. Works Great!
Thank you! They are a great addition for sure
As always ... very well explain your videos ... these accessories, they really make a tremendous difference in the day to day. Congratulations, Professor, Jason.
👊
Thank you!!
i have used them for years, its currently on my third table saw...two unisaws and now on my SS and i love them! i am in a wheelchair and as you said, its like a third hand helping me keep the wood against the fence and tight to the table so that i could concentrate on pushing the material through safely...thanks for sharing, you did a great job of explaining the value of them.
Glad you found it helpful
I made the base that uses the piece of plywood and magnetic switches and I love it. I did feel nervous about drilling into my fence like you mentioned. I loved them so much I immediately purchased the ones for the router table and those are awesome as well. Enjoyed the review. Thanks.
Yeah I have seen the mount your referring to. It’s a pretty cool idea.
Another wonderfully produced, extremely instructive video. Thank you!
Great information!
I can appreciate your example of trying to push a large piece of wood through the saw, especially if you are alone and don't have an infeed table.
paul angeli yeah it is really nice on large pieces like that.
Been using them for a few years on my table saw, and router table. Worth every penny...
SL Custom Carpentry absolutely, definitely one of my favorite purchases
Jason this is the best video on these stock guides!! Awsome job. I’m sold.
Thanks brother!
i bought these a few years ago when they came out. i also have the set for the router table. jessem really makes quality stuff.
alan desgrange yeah they have many great items!
Do you see any reason a fence shared by both a table saw and router table in the saw's extension couldn't share the same set of saw guides by simply relocating the rods so they enter the mounts from the opposite side?
I have this too and it's Awesome! Love it.
rjtumble super awesome! The router table ones are great too!
Got them in today and will put them on my table saw tomorrow.
Awesome! You will enjoy them
I’ve been wanting this system for my saw. Great vid
Penalty Box Woodshop I would highly recommend it!!
Those look awesome! I have the JessEm router lift and I love it. I must have these cause that drives me nuts when I get that deflection. Thanks for doing the video Jason!
I would totally recommend getting them for your SawStop. You would love them.
Looks like they really thought things out, THANKS
Scott louis it’s an awesome addition!
I recently bought these and added to my old 1969 Craftsman 113 table saw with a Delta 36-T30 T3 fence upgrade. I absolutely love them. A couple pointers...
The Jessem rail just fits inside the Delta fence top between the sides... just barely. It is a snug fit.
Because of that, I tried the trend of using a pair of MagSwitches to mount the rail to a 3/4" wood strip for easy removal from the fence. I had to use their MagSwitch 95 to fit in the wood strip and inside the Delta fence top with enough room to screw down the MagSwitches. It did not work. The MagSwitch 95s do not provide enough hold-down force and the Jessem guides had a tendency to "pop off" too easily... they could leverage off with moderate upwards force on the extended guides, killing the ability to help prevent kickback. It just felt unsafe to me, as the whole guide could come flying off.
I wound up just drilling and screwing the rail to the fence top, as per Jessem's instructions. It really is not a big deal to do so and the rail sits nearly completely below the raised side rails with perhaps 1/8" proud of the top. It will not interfere with any jigs I place over the fence (removing the guides of course) and is rock solid. Yes, you do have to remove each guide, but that is not an issue IMHO.
Anyway, hope that helps others.
Brilliant bit of kit 👍
Definitely
Great video Jason. Very well explained. Appreciate it.
Glad you found it helpful
I have the same saw and jessem add on and they both work great
I agree! They are a fantastic addition
I have both sets (TS and router table). I am completely satisfied with both purchases. Make sure that you research whether your fence is supported and if not, make your plans for adaption before you purchase.
Palm Cottage Guy same for me and good tips before purchase
thanks for the tips!
Your welcome
I’m actually building (half of) one for myself, with : a t-track leftover; a narrow metal plate, an unclaimed miter saw clamp, a ball bearing, a U-shaped metal support of an unremembered function , a spring, some bolts, and some plastic and vinyl tubings. « Half of one» means that I’m first aiming at building one for securing the outfeed, because my saw, being almost 40 years old, doesn’t provide a blade guard. I should be done by tomorrow!
Wish you all a lot of projects’ time during the Holidays!
Thanks for this. I've had this on my "considering" list for some time but was never sure enough of its utility and usability to buy one. Until now., that is. Looking forward to seeing your review of the router table equivalent system.
Awesome! Glad you found it helpful. You won’t regret buying them.
I like the point about using the Gripper for thinner cuts. Jessem says in their literature that the farther the guides are away from the fence, the better the hold down since now you've spanned further across the board. I have an extruded aluminum fence too so install is seconds and I can turn them around to use with my router on the other side of the fence. Nice video.
Glad you found it helpful
I'm sold. These are on sale this month at Woodcraft for $219 and I've always been curious about them. You answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. Nice vid. Liked and Subbed.
Great video Jason!
Thank you!! 👊🏼
I have the same table saw as you and I'm one of those guy's that has been hesitant due to the need to drill holes into the fence. Guess I need to rethink this. Thanks,
Scott B. Understandable, i know I’ll never take it off so it didn’t hesitate. As I said in the video, I know there are some interesting way to get around it. 👊🏼
I bought these to use cutting and feel safer in cutting on my saw save my fingers and also there really great when you cant afford a Sawstop. Mine is a Delta 52 for now. I stepped up to this from a Bosch job site saw which was a good saw any ways the Jessem's are worth every penny no matter what saw you have. I set mine up from watching Dave in Australia on UA-cam
They are a great addition
I have the Jessem stock guides and I can't say enough to recommend them..... They add safety and accuracy to any table saw. I have them for the router table also...... They're a tad expensive but they are worth the money.
Definitely worth the cost
Years ago I worked in a shop that had some very similar, it also had a power feed that allowed me to run 1000’s of board feet very quickly. I found that my rip cuts were better because the pressure to hold them in place was consistent, less chance of burning and the board did not wander so it was straighter.
I have experienced similar results with a clean cut. So happy I made this purchase
Will put it on my hammer b3 slider
Purchased them a month ago . Looking forward to using them this weekend for an armoire project .
Ian Rose oh you’re going to love them!
Another awesome video - great information. I believe you covered my two major concerns with purchasing. Drilling into my fence and use if jigs that straddle fence. Can you validate that mounting track is below level if fence sides to allow jigs ti straddle the fence and rest on fence side rails? BTW I have same table saw.
It is just above the fence but jigs can still be created no problem. You may not be able to use previous made jigs though. I’ll have to double check and see what the height difference is.
I have these guides and wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. One question I do have: If your desired cut allows you the space between the blade and the fence, is it better to have the JessEm guides out further (that is, further away from the fence) or keep them closer to the fence?
Good info, Jason. Years ago I installed Board Buddies on my table saw. Pretty much the same idea. I don't even know if the Jessem units were around back then. I too would highly recommend these or something similar for safety.
William Ellis awesome! Yeah the safety features of these alone makes it worth it
Hope everyone enjoys the video. Let me know what you think below!!
JessEm makes some really nice stuff, but where will you hold all of your pencils now :)
While I like to use my track saw for breaking down plywood, I see this device useful if I am ripping 8' ply on the table saw. that feature alone is probably worth it
It is definitely helpful in those situations
I imagine it would be really useful when making 45 degree bevel cuts if say you were making a floating shelf. It’s hard to keep the wood against the fence and have constant pressure when cutting bevels
Nice overview of these guides, definitely planning to add them to my saw. One question: tastes great, or less filling??
Nelson H. Not sure what you are asking?
Always pursue great taste, you can always work off the calories...
own em., love em. recommend the smaller version for the router table as well.. SPEAKING of router table, when are you gonna do a review on that bad boy??
I want to but I want to use it more and really push its limits so I have more to feature
Do you see any reason a fence shared by both a table saw and router table in the saw's extension couldn't share the same set of saw guides by simply relocating the rods so they enter the mounts from the opposite side?
I'd like to have some, but If I install it in that hollow in the middle of the fence where will I store all of my surplus screws, pencils, hardware, and other random parts I shouldn't have up there?😂
It would be a fair trade 🤣
Thank you for a great video. We rip hundreds of 1.5" strips out of full sheets of melamine every week and after about 5 cuts, we have to flip the piece over to start with a straight edge again. I know you address thin cuts and say you don't use them because they limit your ability to push the material through. You think you could make these work with 1.5" rips?
You could. Also you can push from the bottom with a scrap
For those that do not want to drill into the fence: It is much better than having a surgeon cut into your gut to stop internal bleeding. This happened to me....10 days in the hospital.
Agreed. Thank you for sharing that.
What will happen if you have the fence offset a couple thousands or a little more in the back. Will the one behind the blade try to force the wood away from the forward wheel?
It will just keep it against the fence.
Thanks for the video. Can the tool help make a 12ft long straight rip cut? (of a wooden counter top 18” wide).
Definitely
I was wondering if you know of anyway adaptive Jessem to a Bosch portable table saw GTS 1031? Could I adapt my fence to an add on track on top?
I wouldn’t be able to answer that
8:31 "It's like having a third set of hands." Yeah, or even just a second set!
I used to think I needed a table saw. I watched vids of Japanese woodworkers and I now cut everything by hand, even ling sheets.
Is it very difficult to build jigs over the top of the fence since you mounted the track directly on top?
Sound great BUT in the Uk at least, almost as dear as my table saw!! Thanks anyway.
Does this replace the gripper for the most part?
I wouldn’t say they replace a push stick/block. The make the table saw much safer as does the gripper.
Can the position be switched if you put the fence on the other side of the blade?
They would be the opposite direction so no
Just think of the pain 😷 you will not have to deal with. your hands & fingers will love you.
True!
Have you had any issues with the urethan rollers? Thanks
I have not
I recently had to order replacement urethane tires because some of the originals were getting limp to the point of not staying on the roller. But this was after years of use, so I don't see it as a problem with the product.
How thick of material can it Handel
Not sure of an exact number
The BEST Table Saw Addition You Can Make // PREVENT KICKBACK, i still dont see how i can make the parts you are talking about.
What parts are you referring too?
Could I ask where your blade guard is? or doesn't the manufacturer supply one?.
I choose to not use the factory supplied blade guard
That's more than my saw cost.
Wrong
If only you could add a discount coupon...
I wish I could!
Cool but flawed device. Even if the stock is, say, 6 inches wide... this device requires you to either keep your hand much closer to the blade or juggling to keep pushing it through by you stopping the feeding of the lumber, raise your hand up, and reaching over the device to try to continue push it. Unless you're going to use this for long/large cuts I find it mostly worthless. I have an industrial SawStop and this device. The device collects dust in back of a drawer. Guys, save money and be more versatile, buy a Magswitch feather board and a Gripper. Great videos though, love the channel.
Thank you for your input!
Do you want to sell your's if it's just collecting dust? I've got some push sticks I will use with it.
So I'm supposed to pay 250 SIMOLEONS to hold down a piece of wood????? That's insane. ...... Ya know, there are some things you have to do for yourself.
Oh. Wait. I'm sorry. I lost my head and told the truth. ...... Great video! I can't wait to get a pair for myself!
They are worth every penny
@@bentswoodworking Yeah. If you're incompetent.
Jessem makes quality tools, but a homemade feather board is WAY cheaper than this.
Lol not even close
Way too expensive!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mmmm.10 mın vıdeo about JessEm.Unsubcrıbed.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just do the damn videos. Please stop with all the self-promotion. We all know you’re doing this for the money. Put that crap at the end.
Or you could just STFU and move on
I've had these for years and there can still be drift away from the fence from the rear with long pieces. I really like them but have been using them less because of this. I am using these with the very super cool tools fence setup which has a channel at the top of the extruded aluminum fence that these guides just slide into which is great! I have the same saw and upgraded the fence b/c when I would run a dial indicator along the fence at each point where there was a screws (which holds the plywood to the metal fence body ) there was a significant belly/indentations reading from the Dial indicator. I made numerous adjustments and gave up. Anyway , great video, love the channel and
Thanks! I’ll have to check out the fence you mentioned.
