Lol, Bryson DeChambeau uses a single plane swing and is by far one of the longest hitting pro golfers. You should try and get together with him next month when LIV plays in Tulsa and do video comparing his and Moe Normans swings.
The guy is probably over 6'5 and around 240... and he has a full back swing.. looks nothing like mo Norman's swing. He had a 3/4 back swing at best lol
I took a lesson with a single plane coach back when Natural Golf was around. I watched him hit drivers literally off of the driving range. Ball after ball flew the net at 275 yards. It was impressive to say the least.
In my late 60s, my 250 yd. drives, down the middle of the fairway, leave my golf buddies behind. Better, more solid contact is the key and the SPS is what provides it. I just take advantage of the effect. :)
I had the pleasure of watching Graham Delaet hit balls. He was long!!!! However, I witnessed an individual hit balls at a range. 5'9" /220. x baseball/hockey player. This guy was unbelievable, with seemly no effort. Very short compact swing!! Hit yhem dead straight as well.
I'm no Roberto when it comes to swing speed, BUT I can honestly say, when I switched to the SPS, I gained about 15 yards more distance on the average with my driver. Guys my swing speed is approximately low 90s, so my total distance is around 225-235 yards. That seems kind of long for only 90 mph right? The key is the combination of attack angle, launch angle, and spin rate, and of course hitting the ball in the sweet spot on the clubface. For low swing speed players, it's better if you think like LPGA swings, not PGA swings, and I guarantee you'll enjoy the game a lot more. In a nut shell, the SPS allowed me to be FAR more efficient and accurate with attack angle, launch angle, and spin rate.
What I noticed most about this swing is the golfers legs getting wider initially. A point Moe made about his swing, sitting into his knees. As a new member of the online academy I’ve found that the “squat” is the best move for my transition and I’m making better contact, better ball compression and the yardage that I “lost” is now back and I’m even hitting the ball a little farther and definitely straighter.
Years ago I watched Pancho DeNeefe drive balls over the back fence of the Albert Park driving range which is super high and probably about 300 metres out. He was also able to hit a 48 degree pitching wedge to the 200 Metre green while I was hitting a 4 wood. The guy was a monster hitter.
Todd, last time I played I nailed a drive straight down the middle. My friend has a GPS devise to measure the distance. I hit it 300yrds and I am 66yrs old. The single plane swing is awesome.
Moe mentioned he is reaching with his right hand. Question is , are you reaching the target with your left hand or right ? You teach pulling thru with the left hand to the target. Just trying to clarify.
The one thing that stood out to me is the position of his trail arm/ elbow at the top is behind and away from his body unlike Moe and something I tend to struggle with especially when I’m trying to step on one. I know that the goal is to match the model but it seems to me that as long as you plane the club the position isn’t as critical.
I discovered the single plane about 7 years ago somewhere else before I found you and Mo. All I did was raise my hands to the swing plane and the best I could, I would keep my swing arc long and wide while keeping my arms nice and straight. I was able to start driving the ball 280-290 and once hit one 320 dead straight with driver, never forget the feeling. And once 290 with a 3wood rolled on the green and shot an eagle for the whole. I could hit the driver straight and far all the time, at will. I was not able to do it with the irons though, which was very frustrating. I would have problems hitting everything fat but still get good distance. I had a conventional coach try helping with the irons and it wrecked my swing for the driver, it only took 30 minutes to ruin my swing. It's Painful, still working on it, but almost have it back. I find in hard using your technique, so I just focus on keeping hands on swing plane, huge difference. I love the Mo video's! What a great character. The short videos are awesome.
i’ve found that’s what’s most comfortable for me as a taller golfer. i incorporate some of the Norman swing into a traditional swing and it just feels much better
I agree, I think hybrid idea might work for a lot of players. Moe agreed that everyone is different, so the approach should be more individual to achieve the same result. I've been practicing sps and setup4impact and noticing some good changes in consistency.
Ok, first time I have heard take the club inside a bit for a one plane swing. I've always struggled not doing this thinking I shouldn't. Will try again tomorrow.
Hey Todd, I was thinking about you getting your single-plane stance trainet. Is that the same measurements regardless of height or leg length of the player?
@@ToddGravesGolf with you being such a science guy, it's kind of fascinating that the measurements would be the same regardless of people's limb length and height variance.🤔 Maybe you could do a video explaining that?
@@latman1 Ball position is consistent. Stance width is the variable. No matter your height. So to vary the trail foot as long as the lead foot and ball position is all that changes with height. The ABT has room for variance for your trail foot as well. Also, distance to the ball is very similar because arm length is a variable of height. You would be surprised that the distance to the ball is similar with tall vs. short people as well, as long as the clubs are fit properly.

@@patricklavigne4963 A golf swing is a sequence of body movements and there are measurable metrics to the motion of the body. Bend, SIdebend and Rotation. These metrics, when positionally measured, determine the body's motion. This is what makes a golf swing the same or different. These elements are quantifiable in all golf swings. Every golfer rotates, bends and sidebends. In that regard all swings are the same. What makes a swing different is in the quantity of these attributes during the motion. For example, when you sidebend the body, the trail shoulder externally rotates, naturally rotating the arm approximately 20 degrees. IF you begin the swing with more sidebend, you also start with more trail arm rotation. If you start with more arm rotation at the beginning, you can then move into impact with less rotation (From address to impact). This constitutes a biomechanical difference than someone who does not have sidebend, had the hand more rotated internally at address and must then tilt and rotate the arm in the backswing to achieve impact. You could say that the swings are the same, that both golfers had sidebend and rotation but they are very different in how much sidebend occurred during the motion from address to impact. In this aspect, Rory and Tiger are the same yet, are quantifiably different when measured.
