    I had horrible TMJ for a long time. One day it suddenly got better!
    It took me a while to realize it was because I forgot to take my Adderall. I'm now on a different medication for my ADHD, and my jaw is much happier 😌

    Aye dentist here, TMJ is a very complex condition. It has multiple different causes and can create several conditions and symptoms. (Not all related to clenching and grinding) It also normally takes multiple modalities to treat. I see a lot of your mouth guard comments and questions, just know that there are different kinds for different purposes. It’s definitely not one size fits all. Also clenching and grinding can be separate from TMJ. If you’re suffering, find a dentist who has experience in this type of treatment. Just know they will likely be more expensive because to get the additional education to treat these issues is very very expensive. Best of luck to all of you.

      Yes I totally agree with you, with everything. I just posted my story just now with a new dentist and he helped me get with his specialist that works with him to help clients with TMJ and grinding teeth. My headaches went away almost immediately. I know everyone is different and they took impressions of my teeth which was very difficult because I have those little things behind the bottom of my teeth it's like the Bony area that interfere with get the and making it painful for a few minutes. I did break a few because they were hard to get out of my mouth so they told me to put a thin layer of Vaseline on my teeth which helped. I don't use a lot but I need it to get my night guards out especially the top night guards. They have been telling everyone how much its helped me.

      @luzguerrero1530 if you google "origin tmj pelvic floor" you'll get a great blog post by a PT explaining it. I tried including the link, but I think adding a URL was getting my comments deleted by a spam filter. But basically it has to do with how the muscles around the jaw, the diaphragm, the muscles of the core, and the muscles of the pelvic floor need to coordinate together breathing, pressure management, digestion, using the bathroom, childbirth, lifting objects, etc.

Plus I was grinding my teeth and I was afraid of breaking my teeth. Oh I lost weight too because of have the night guards in 24/7...yes I took them out to eat but I put them back in to prevent biting and grinding my teeth. I’ve been using a custom made night guard/retainer for years now. My dentist told me I would lose my back teeth if I kept grinding as badly as I was. Using the night guard has changed my life entirely, I can even hear better because the grinding affected my ears. My face isn’t as swollen, the pain has subsided and it’s even sort of “re trained” my mouth to not clench so hard. I can always tell the next day if I don’t wear it. The combination night guard with retainer was 500$ and I’ve had to replace it a couple times after my dog got ahold of it (lol) the night guard itself should cost less but I highly recommend visiting a dentist to get a custom one for yourself. The cost is irrelevant once you feel the relief 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

    • @spookylittlebat5208
      @spookylittlebat5208 6 місяців тому +1

      It doesn’t impact hair growth whatsoever, only cuts it off above the surface of the skin so it gives the hair a blunt edge, which can make it appear thicker when it grows beyond the skin’s surface. If they have facial hair to shave, I don’t see why not, just depends what their preference is and what makes them feel more comfortable 🤷🏼‍♀️ There are other options to avoid the blunt edge though, such as bleaching… plucking… waxing… electrolysis… laser hair removal. All but the bleaching do affect hair regrowth, though. Some hairs may never grow back, which may be desirable or undesirable, depending on the location. There’s also a chance that what they’re doing is actually dermaplaning, which can look like shaving and does take off hairs, but isn’t necessarily the goal. That’s more like shaving off the top layer of skin cells for a smoother appearance, which makes make-up sit nicer. It’s all fine, just make sure they’re practising good hygiene with the tools they’re using and good skincare to calm and protect afterwards to mitigate the risk of getting a skin infection. If they appear to have an excessive amount of facial hair, though, I’d get them checked for PCOS etc. just in case, as maybe treatment might make it easier to manage. If it’s not excessive, they’ll probably get bored of removing it at some point, so I wouldn’t worry about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Does this apply even when injecting small doses? I always insist my derm uses the minimum amount of botox to just make my muscle weaker, but not enough to make it smaller. I think people call that baby botox now?

    I have questions but I don’t know what they are. I do have a weak jawline and I am 41 and it seems like overnight. I got these bulldog hanging skin things under my jaw. It literally seems to have appeared overnight and nothing seems to be helping it.
    I know there are jaw exercises you can do… Would that help with the jawls?

    My muscles behind and under my jaw I guess it's my masseter is giant I have huge bulges on both sides of my face especially on the right my dentist literally said my tmj has given me a big thick body builder neck! He literally was blown away that it was my from my tmj not from body building 😭....I can't afford the Botox and my night guard hasn't helped much. What could I do to make it go down?

  • @Lwurd000

    I understand how a night guard helps protect your teeth from grinding caused by TMJ, but I don't understand how it stops or helps TMJ itself? You can still clench and grind with most night guards, but your teeth stay protected

      I've been wearing a mouth guard religiously for about a decade, and it did help a lot to decrease grinding, I don't know why or how. But if the grinding is stress related, probably therapy is what's going to resolve the issue long term. I still definitely feel my jaw in the morning when I'm going through rougher periods, even with a mouth guard.

    @shereeneidriss i got Botox twice on the Masseter 5 years ago and then 3 years ago to help fix the asymmetry from getting it the first time. Now I see the joules laxity and still the effect made my face have no shape and there is still asymmetry. How do you recommend I fix this?

  • @ginaplopper-norton8839

    Hi, dental hygienist here, a night guard will not stop you from clenching and obviously won't help you at all during the day if you can't wear it all day.

      I've had bad experiences getting botox from dentists before. They don't tend to have a lot of experience injecting it. I went to a dermatologist instead and he knew exactly what to do within 2 minutes of talking to him.
