    I'm glad you did this review. I have been eyeing this whiskey in my local stores for a while now but have been unable to pull the trigger on it. I might have to add it to my collection now.

      It's extremely smooth if you like very smooth whiskey.

    • @alxbrooks

      that was my take from it. it's very woodford-y. it's a chill effect as well. everything about it is smooth. a bit pricey, but the cost is clearly based off of the smoothness.

      Do it! It's my new favorite because of the strong vanilla and caramel notes which are my favorites. It's the one I decant and drink straight.

    2:45 you can tell exactly what Daniel thinks about it. That's the same reaction I had the first time I tasted it. And Rex throwing out the vanilla flavor is what I get too. My wife committed the ultimate sin and mixed it with coke...tasted like you were drinking vanilla coke. I live in Colorado Springs, CO and we get this for about $45 a bottle.

    Isn't the guy who proofs the whiskey and checks the flavor profile like the ultimate mooch? I mean he is getting paid to drink and test whiskey. Like a level over 9000 mooch or something? Sounds like the perfect job for Rex!

    So, a while back they were at this event call Pawtoberfest in Colorado Springs. Long story short I got a lot of free tastings and bumper stickers. Very good whisky I'm still learning whisky but I remember how smooth this was for me and my fiancée who rarely drinks took a liking to their whisky.

    Man if you'd made that water mistake in the last video you'd be really angry.
    On price though. Assuming that the supply and demand of two whiskies are the same, but one is older than the other wouldn't the older one have a higher price?

    Damn. Just took a first time shot of this while watching this. It is smooth and definitely niiiiiice. 😎

    Interesting take on this whiskey, I had a much different reaction to it then them, but I’m glad to see a different take on it.

      Just tried this whiskey today and came back to this review because I remember them liking it. I am with you… I think it’s plain and not very complex. Very easy to drink and smooth but lacked character.

    I picked up a bottle of this as my very first whiskey. I think I got a very different batch though because mine is 48% and very oily. when I added water it brought out the flavors to a much higher degree. I'm not quite established in whiskey yet so I didnt get as much nuance but it added a lot of punch

    You say something right in this video. "Price has nothing to do with quality." That is absolutely correct.
    Unfortunately you also say that "price only has to do with rarity only" which is at best 50% correct. Most producers, especially producers that have marketed themselves as elite whiskies charge for their brand name no matter the rarity (or quality). Sadly most people suck that up. (I'm talking to you JW Blue and Macallan buyers.)

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  6 років тому

      Yeah, there's always the marketing factor.

    • @brettcloak-gentile9131
      @brettcloak-gentile9131 6 років тому +1

      Also, there are more and more screw top whiskeys where the rarity hasn't driven the MSRP price up but the secondary market is wild. Looking at you Old Weller Antique.

    My friend is trying to get into whiskey, but she has celiac disease. I know whiskey is gluten-free, but is that true even if they don't filter out all the bits? If not, how do I succinctly let her know which ones she needs to avoid? Thanks!

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

      so here's the thing... this is not medical advice ;-) But in theory, all whisky of every kind is gluten free due to the distillation process. I have a friend with celiac who drinks whiskey with no problem. But I have another friend with a similar gluten sensitivity medical issue who feels bad after drinking it. So there's no way to know for sure unless they try a bit.

    This is my favorite bourbon of all time, I want to try all their other bourbons from their website, I can’t find any sold around me, so I have called and emailed Breckenridge numerous times, no response from them at all, apparently their customer service has much to be desired of

    This is the worlds highest distillery. What does the elevation do to the whiskey?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  6 років тому +2

      Not entirely certain, but I'd guess that it would make the temperature ranges more extreme which will have a dramatic affect on the barrel aging.

    • @Joshcward
      @Joshcward 6 років тому

      Its a cooler climate. It never gets above about 85 as an extreme high. I was curious, Thanks

    I'm going through all of your videos, earliest first, but I've also seen a dozen of your latest videos (hence this comment)...
    I think "The Mooch" should find some additional humorous angles not about being a mooch. Using one's imagination surely there are other angles. Also you should consider avoiding harsh insults (supposedly for the comedy). You likely intend to do a lot of videos together in the future, so I think you need to tone it down.
    My weak example: "your mother wears army boots." It's a funny, lame insult and people play along with it and they wouldn't get upset. I'm just saying if you're creative you can banter around a bit without swearing, without being vulgar, while also avoiding overt sharp personal insults.
    This is just meant as something to think about. I am patient to a fault, but I'm getting tired of "the mooch" angle.
    Watch some "Scotch Test Dummies" reviews. They find humor in a number of different ways, and their 'dings' aimed each way are mild enough.
    [I never use swear words because dull animal types use a lot of swear words, it's a sign of stupidity or at least a dull mind. Folks who are more intelligent can come up with word combinations which convey the idea without resorting to simple-minded cuss words. I might call someone "pond scum", but I would never call them a "fuc_king as_shole" because that is just over used, and vulgar. See?]
    Cheers!

      I re-read my comment from a while back with your input in mind. I'm surprised. I think I expressed a few good ideas. "try some other humor", "tired of the mooch angle only", "repeated swear words are for dummies", "your mother wears army boots", etc. and your point is... "naw, they're friends..." More please. More Josh Gordon!
