  • Parametric Rolling is a relatively new concept as far as the stability of the ship is concerned. For ages, the mariner's were content with the behaviour of the ship in static sea conditions. The effect of the crest and trough of a wave which is approximately equal to the length of the ship was not appreciated till there were considerable losses caused to the new generation container ships. The video is for the guidance of Masters and Mates to understand the devastating effect of such waves and situations which may favour large Parametric roll.
    Capt.S.S.Chaudhari is an Indian Merchant Navy Captain with 45 years of experience under his belt including 29 years of teaching and training professionals. He is from ‘1978-79’, T.S. Rajendra batch. He commanded ships from 1990 to 1994, whereafter he said quits to sailing and started his teaching tenure in 1994, at L.B.S College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research. In 1999, he completed Bachelor of General Law from Mumbai University.
    In LBS, he was connected with most areas of maritime teaching at various levels up to Extra Masters. For several years, he had been in the panel of examinations by MMD, of various competency levels. He has also been a faculty and examiner of the Extra Master’s course since 2006. He was also associated with the examination of B.Sc Nautical Sciences, (Mumbai University). He was Chief Editor of a technical magazine ‘Horizon Ahead’ for over 5 years. He has been the principal of M.M.T.I. Dehradun, from 2014 till 2019.
    During the 29 years of teaching, he has written several books. Chartwork, Celestial Navigation, Ship Stability, Cargowork, Navaids, Advanced Shipboard Management, Ship Construction (Vol I & Vol II), Legal Knowledge for first mate are to name a few. Capt. Chaudhari believes in sharing his knowledge with the fraternity.

    DG should list some real teachers in their website ...we have had enough of Subramanium Sir..The knowledge from his books are obselete but still form the basis of teaching for most of maritime teaching in India....

    Thank you sir for good understanding parametric rolling.
    Doubt regarding conditions favorable at 7:44 where its metioned PP=WEP, is it not that PP=RP.

    • @capt.s.s.chaudhari5181
      @capt.s.s.chaudhari5181  Місяць тому

      PP is half of RP. Whereas, RP = WEP is condition for sync rolling with waves from side.

      so sir am I right if I say;
      For parametric rolling to occur either PP= 1/2 RP or PP=RP in head or following seas.
      For synchronous rolling to occur RP = WEP in beam seas.
      Please clarify Thanks...
