Colregs Rule 10 - Traffic Separation Scheme
Rule 10, ‘Traffic Separation Scheme’, applies to traffic separation schemes adopted by the Organisation and does not relieve any vessel of her obligation under any other Rule. This rule must be understood in combination with Rule 18, responsibility between the vessels, which says, ‘except where Rule 9, Rule 10, and Rule 13 otherwise require’…. There is a reference in respect of not impeding the passage and thus, the Rule 8(f) must also be understood along with this rule. Capt. S.S. Chaudhari with his immense association with students is able to simplify the rule in his present video.

So if i'm a PDV following traffic lane and i ve got fishing vessels crossing from my starboard side... It shall not impede my passage, but if it ignored this rule and risk of collision exists already - i'm becoming a give-way vessel according to rule 18?

Rule 10. a) says vessels in tss not relieved of any other duties from any other rules. It means you have to follow other rules even if you are in tss. Rule 18 applies when that particular vessel is not listed in rule 10.

@@dileeppadmakumar yeah but if you are PDV vessel following a lane and u've got sailing or fishing vessel crossing from stbd side, which rule do u need to follow? as per rule 10 it shall not impede your passage, but according to rule 18 you shall keep out of the way of FV. But in rule 18 stated except rule 9,10,13 requires otherwise... im confused

@@smith1760 broo that is what i said...when you are in tss you should follow rule no 10. For fishing & sailing vessels rule 10i & 10j will apply as it is clearly mentioned they should not impede so it stays like that...but what about other pd vessels , nuc , cbd ? For these vessels rule no 10 does not say anything so for these vessels you should follow rule 18. Except ram vessels as it is also mentioned in rule 10k&l
