  • Kenny Stuart (left) & Pete Baron (middle) paced Billy Bland’s record 13hr 53mins BG in 1982. Here's what they think about how the route and conditions today compared to Billy's 36 years ago. It has changed, a lot! I think this makes both records kinda equal - what do you think...?
P.S. following on from what the guys say about path erosion in the Lake District, if you are thinking of visiting the UK and/or want more info on routes in the rest of Britain, pls comment below and I can recommend some cracking routes elsewhere too :)

Great interview. Nice to see Kenny and Billy together-they don't see eye-to-eye on everything (fox hunting for one). Kenny is one of UK's finest athletes of the past 40 years in his own right-holds 35 year old record for the Ben Nevis race and a 2.11 marathon runner to boot!

Great to hear these guys. I guess we have to say that Billy's record was simply a few decades ahead of its time! Hats off to Billy and Kilan :)

Great to see these three lads who I used to regularly race against in the 1980s. Billy's record took some beating, 36 years! Killian's 2018 record might last as long. It's some super performance.

Sorry folks but I'm french and beczuse of the noise/accent/my poor english I just couldn't understand.
Is the trail "trailed" as opposed to being completely off trzil at the time ?
The weather is dry but is it that rare ?
Thank you if you czn sum up the chatting for me

The guys were talking about how the paths have been much improved from when Billy completed the round 36 years ago. So to complete the round Kilian will have spent some time on decent stone paths that volunteers have made over the years, and other points running over pathless ground. I haven't been in the area so can't say how many paths there are or how good they are.
It tends to rain a lot in the west coast of the UK. And even when it hasn't rained in a week the ground up the hills can still be boggy and wet. But we've just gone through an extremely dry spell where it's barely rained for a month, which is very very unusual. So the conditions underfoot will have been very good for Kilian.
Hope this helps. The guys in the video have light north western accents I think, so may make them harder to understand of you're not a native speaker.

Thank you for your answers, that's super Nice !
Translation is ok for most and ggl gives an idea... But the accent+recording sometimes make it impossible.
I know where to head for to train my ear and my feet, the fells of lakeland and also scotland !

I agree and not taking anything away from his run and also last week did killian not win the mount Blanc race ? So to run this well a week later is fantastic on its own
