I really gotta say that the most usefull thing about Matte Boxes is that it makes you look professional. For mostly everything else its just too big and makes your workflow slower.
Honestly though lol
It’s especially a pain when you want to switch lenses
@@LukasHauf get a swing away. Not that difficult.
Disagree. Matte boxes help out a lot. Flare, reducing haze and the filter change is much faster than screwing on/off circular filters.
prob the bet review video ive seen to date on this mattbox!!! THANK YOU
Woooho, nice video! I love the mist filter, it gives the scene a complete different vibe! Thank You professor Brady!
Thank you so much!
I just binged watched all your vids and I have to say this channel is awesome. Thank you for everything.
Thank you so very much!
The thought about using the blue/gold morphic filters to keep consistency across a lens that isn't a true anamorphic is a great idea! Solid thought there.
You are My Light Master🔥.... Keep learning.... Practicing.... Repeating...... Thanks a lot to you brother......
Thank you so so much
I can charge more for my work after watching this video!
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 Hollywood secrets
Got the same takeaway message 👌👌👌👌
watched 3 other videos before this and this is the only one that explains my reason getting this. @2:33 Getting multiple VND, Mist, CP for different lens thread sizes is tedious (not mention threading/removing threaded step up rings). Watched these videos before opening the BaseCamp I just purchased on the Black Friday sale. Thanks again Brady! New subscriber here!
Matte Boxes!!!! Here before the thousands!!! Brady does it again.
Hey there thank you!
Loved this class session! I was thinking of buying one so just in time :)
I hope it was helpful then!
Just what i was looking for
Never had a matte box and it looks like I'm about to buy one.
Desi it's time
Let's get a Matte Box then, you convinced me Brady, thanks! Another thing you can do with a Matte, for example in a Car Commercial, is placing it on the back of the car in order to have a complete black frame at the beginning (and you can do it thanks to its thickness without ruining the lens) and then just let the car go away superfast. Done!
Thanks, very good explanation of Matte box uses and how to use this system
Thank you so much!
I just ordered one. Not a BaseCamp. But a cheap knock off budget one. Hope it works for me 🙏😁 Love allllll your content, Bro. God Bless You and Yours!
Thank you so much!! Cheers and enjoy it!
Your content is just Amazing !
Dont’t stop pls 😁
Thank you! Will do!
Awesome thank for sharing learned something new.
Thank you so much!
Great video. Thank you
Thank YOU
Bout to bring another buddy with me next time I sit in on the classroom 😂🙌🏼 Awesome vid as always bro
Appreciate you ED
Great video man !! Was so close to get the first version of the Basecamp last year for their VND ability but the proprietary system turned me off. I have both the Smallrig and Tilta at the moment since I already had 4x5.65 filters and pretty happy with both :). Love Polar Pro though , great products.
Hey thank you so much
Totally. I've been close a few times, but it's too overpriced and as you say, proprietary
@@JoshFromPerth They offer amazing after service though. I have the basecamp and the flag started to sag. Called them and within 5 days I had a brand new replacement , in the box with other things that come with it that weren't even faulty and they said keep the old core. That's US to UK in 5 days. No hassle. Lifetime guarantee too.
thanks for your video
Most welcome
Thank you very much
Thank YOU
They are a must if you have proper lens, nice video!
I agree! thank you !
Nice. Definitely won't be upgrading, especially for those anamorphic streak filters. They look gimmicky as hell. Especially when compared to the natural flare at the beginning of the video with your Vazen. Thanks for the video and saving me the money.
glad I can help I suppose lol
Love it wanna buy one soon
go ahead!!
Fantastic content once again. Now you have to show us how you carry all of that gear!
i work out 8 days a week
@@BradyBessette No doubt about that. Lol. 😃😃
Suuuubscribed! Thanks Brady😀
Man, seems like every time I go to research an item your videos pop up! I am currently looking around at different matte boxes to add to my set up. Im looking at the Smallrig Mini Matte Box as I am a broke college student still hah. I have a rig set up with a rod system from Smallrig for my Canon m50 mark II and my Rebel T5 and T5i when I break them out. With the 15 mm rods I can mount the Mini Matte box directly to that so I wont have to worry much about messing with step up/down rings... hopefully. kinda learning and modifying as I go along. I am mainly looking for a Matte Box for the professional look for client work, as well as a workaround for buying multiple ND filters and trying to reduce glare for shots where the camera is mounted on a car. The few times I have tried those shots, most have worked beautifully, the ones that did not work, the lens got too much sun. Do you happen to have any recommendations for Matte Boxes that work with smaller Ef-m and ef-s lenses? I am saving up for my first Cinema style lenses and will be ordering a Rokinon 24, 35, 50, 85mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens Bundle in a few months, so until then I am shooting with lenses that are much smaller in size. (Smallest lens being the ef-m 15-45mm kit lens and the largest being the EFS 10 - 18mm, the other lenses fall between them size wise.) I know with the right tweaking and modification I can get the smallrig mini, mentioned above, to work with the smaller lenses but I am not certain what others might be out there that would actually be worth looking at. Any ideas would be appreciated man! Also, just found you on IG, got another follower there for sure.
I just buy 82 mm filters and step up rings. That flag at the top seemed helpful though to control flair.
Love that video it could be really cool to see a tutorial of how to remove objects in your footage
That’s a tough concept!
Cheaper option is Tilta Mirage Matte Box. But it's only for lenses up to 95mm diameter while Basecamp is up to 114mm.
Thanks a lot for doing this. Great job as always. Quick question. Did you use the Stage 3 add on to mount the mist filter? Curious to see the Bluemorphic and Mist combo look as well
I did not, but you can stack bluemorphic and the mist without the third stage!
@@BradyBessette great thanks for getting back to me. I suppose the third stage is needed in case you want to add a ND in the mix
Yooo this channel explodes. Last week was 56k, now 65k
let's see where we get NEXT WEEK
@@BradyBessette 76K!!
U the best Brady
THANK YOU SO MUCH
A mat boxes with Matts for different focal lengths are even better!
I do agree there!
great video as always!! is it safe to say that this system has IR coating? so no problems with black magic cameras at high nd?
That’s a good question that I’m curious of! I’m gonna look into it. Thank you Lee
Puhleaase do a "follow focus" video!! 😬😫😫😆
Sounds fun to me!
Also you can just buy clip in nd filters! Goies straight inside by the sensor 🙃
Thanku you so much sir I'm from India ❤️
Thank you!!
You should check out Prism Lens FX filters.
Great video Brady! I noticed that we use kinda the same setup like the one showed on 0:30. What is your power management to the camera and Nano?
I use a camvate plate from BH with a Vmount, and run dtap to micro usb with my nano
Thank you!!
@@BradyBessette sounds great! My Nano gets 8V power and its okay most times. But, as soon as I put mattebox on the lens it becomes heavy and torque is not enough..
Will standard step up rings work or do you have to use theirs
what stabilizer system do you have on your back leading to the rig?
nice one
keep on
Thank you !!
Does this work for the BMPCC 6k Pro?
Does anyone know if this mattebox can fit over/around the bulbous Sigma 14-24mm lens hood?
Does the autofocus work with a matte box? Or the matte box is designed to work with manual focus?
Silly question with the filter you would not require an anamorphic lens as such?
Well this mattboxe would be super overkill for my vintage lens set lol. Feel like the Tilta would fit my small setup better.
I agree on that! lol it doesnt fit my vintage 50
Wait ..how did you go from square filters to circle 5:35 how does the circle attach to the matte box
Please make a video on color grading and color correcting of your filmed videos
Okay! In the works!
I want one!
its all yours! and HEY CONGRATS ON 10K
@@BradyBessette haha thanks man, so stoked on 10K! I'll just dm you my shipping info 😂😂😂
“In that tragic event...” 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahaha thank you!
Is there any loss of quality when using the VND that comes with the Polar Pro Mattebox like if you were using a circular variable nd? Then you would have green or magenta shift which looks unprofessional, is that also the case for the Polar Pro VND ?
I haven’t seen a crazy amount of shift. Nothing significant although shooting through anything you will lost some quality or color
@@BradyBessette ok sounds great. Definetly a great investment
Any suggestions for a matte box like you discussed for canon Eos 80d
The tilta mini may be a good choice!
@@BradyBessette Thank you so much
Could you please write the model of this matte box?
Only one minor problem. In the Land of Oz, I bought my Zhiyun Crane 3s Pro kit for AU$100 more than what a Polar Pro matte box kit costs. And what my Tilta mini matte box and VNDs cost? No contest.
Yeah this definitely isn’t the ONLY option ! Glad that works for you!
Why? Because it looks badass.
I wish polarpro had a swing away option
it would make it easy for lens changes!
Cool ! But can you use a ND and a Mist at the same time ? :)
Yes. With their newly released 'Stage-3' set up you can have a VND & mist as separate elements. Or they also make a Mist/VND combo.
You can also do what I do which is to thread a Tiffen Black ProMist on the front of your lens and then set your Mattebox up in front of that with a CPL & VND.
Yes of course!
@@AdrianAlvarado707Cali THANK YOU !
anyone know any mattebox that can be used with my moment lenses on iphone? I have 67mm ND filters
I do not, but I’ll look around!
@@BradyBessette you responding on this old video makes you even more of an MVP lol. Thanks dude. Btw I asked a seller at moment and as far as they know it’s not possible to attach a matte box directly to the moment lens. I’m wondering if there’s a workaround with gaff tape (creating a lip/flag) or something like that
I need a giveaway for this set 😁
we allllll wish!
I literally JUST purchased the 77mm PMVND Filter because the MATTE BOX was sold out until FEBRUARY 😫😫😫!!!!
February is in 5 days
Oh nooooooooooo I’m so sorry
@@ramonolthof3358 It wasn't 5 days away two weeks ago.
@@mckenziebmcbride 2 weeks ago is not 'Just'
Love my PolarPro mattebox and the VNDs are hugely useful. But I'm EXTREMELY IRRITATED that I have to spend $250 to add a 3rd stage when I've only had the original 2-stage system for a couple months.
I can see how that’s frustrating , definitely not the BEST product but still a great product
I feel that, & I'm skipping the 'Stage 3'. What are you looking to add to the 3rd stage? For me it was diffusion, so I ordered a Tiffen Black ProMist 1/2 for less than a 3rd of the cost.. threaded that on to the front of the lens and then the Basecamp system in front of that. Winning formula.
@@AdrianAlvarado707Cali I have threaded BPMs, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2. But since I shoot with all primes, it's a big pain to work with threaded filters. Once I see some more comparisons of the PolarPro diffusion filters, if they satisfy I might bite the bullet and buy the 3rd stage despite my irritation. The quality and convenience of the PolarPro VND is what keeps me from going with a traditional multistage mattebox.
Yeah.. understood. The footage examples I've seen for mist & mist heavy look comparable to 1/4 and 1/2 BPM. 3rd stage cost does seem excessive. I have a feeling that a month or 2 down the line they might offer a reduced cost or limited time offering. Are you a PolarPro member? When purchasing Basecamp, I discovered I had unused cash back. They give a 5% back when purchasing logged in to your account. #EveryLittleBitHelps
@@AdrianAlvarado707Cali yeah, I discovered some credit when I had to order a replacement polarizer for the BaseCamp after scratching mine. I really wish they offered some kind of discount for the 3 stage design, at least for customers who relatively recently purchased of the 2 stage system. A 3-stage bundle discount, like with any 2 filters, would be cool too.
I was almost sold on this EXCEPT....you cannot add your own ND's of choice in the filter tray. Bummer!
Yeah I know :(
Dude, for the love of all that is holy, how on earth did you take off the French flag?! I’ve been trying to figure it out for a while now 😅
Will anyone making film with smartphone needs matte boxes
most likely not with a phone!
I rather go to a video shoot with a Matt Box than the bare lens. They just take you more seriously.
oddly enough that's often true :/
Got Notifications from best Content Creators at same time😁..... Is this collaborated work??
WHO ELSE?!
@@BradyBessette Kris Antoinette released a video about polar pro basecamp at same time..... That's why i asked about....
Cinema lenses don’t have filter threads because companies that make “cinema” products want you to buy a matte box - to look like a super cool professional “cinematographer”.
Nice Video! One Tip from me: in DaVinci you can add the anamorphic flares in Post. And they look realy good! No Need to buy expensive Filters, in my opinion. You can choose the Color!! ..the brightness, length and more.
So that’s what that thing “matte box “is call lol
yes! so cool huh?
@@BradyBessette yeah Defly does 😎
Well I know where my next $500 is going
to my venmo? oh you mean the mattebox.... awkward
Even though you talk about mattebox, you'd never mentioned and showed 'matte'. You just talked about filter holder. Don't you know what 'matte' is and what 'matte' is for?
When did you become a shill?
Thank you for the view and engagement!
