I assume that many people who are considering running versus walking may be obese or overweight. Due to not training for months, their joints and ligaments have become weak, so running is not a good option for weight loss, even though it burns more calories. My advice is to focus on walking consistently.

However, if you're trying to loose weight running due to being high intensity and high volume will also drain your energy rapidly. To make up for the lost energy our body will increase the appetite. That's why so many joggers aren't able to lose weight as much as they want to. Running has many more benefits, but for losing weight it's not the best idea.
