Sean I’m completely blown away, I wasn’t expecting anything like this when you were going to do some work on it. Thank you and Cathy for everything you do. I can’t wait to get it in my hands.
It Turned out Awesome Brother !
I'll Be watching Tonight for sure !!
Until then Have a Great Evening Sean, Cathy, & Everyone Scarred ...
Live Free or Die, From Pew Hampshire !!!
That was one of the best rebuilds I’ve ever seen!
Watching the master at work is always a pleasure.
Should have done the headstock and forgotten about nostalgia. That color is so beautiful.
Good video as usual. You all are the coolest. 👍✌️✌️💯🎸🎸 And as the Greeks would say. Time to redo the Rectumous Fretomous 🤣🤣🤞🤞
You done did it again Sean. Beautifully scarred! Thanks for taking our minds of NAMM for a little bit! Much appreciated!
That would look really sweet with a purple matching headstock!👍😎🎸🎶
The fretwork song had me rolling. 😂
Great video, the only thing I would’ve have done differently is how you removed the fretboard. But that’s just my opinion, great to see a bolt on neck be repaired instead of replaced.
Just a little advice, no disrespect intended at all. Love you guys.
Anyhow when sanding especially on a see-thru finish, always go with the grain. No circular or cross grain sanding. It will show up after the clear is applied and ages. Guitar looked good though and sounded better.
Awesome job. It wouldn't be a "scar my guitar" video if my OCD isn't triggered at least once. 😊 A lighter purple pickguard would look great on that.
Sean- you are a trure craftsmen and its enjoyable to see the workmanship!
Well hell, we all did the screw thing on something
Them memories are "screwed" in for keeps
Wow, another beautiful job. Fantastic craftmanship. The only thing maybe I'd do different is paint Van Halen stripes on the pickguard to match the headstock. Still, no complaints, she's awesome.
Mr. Scar, I watch all of your videos, I love your style man, But this video here just hit me in the Face for some reason, Keep On Keepin On Man, My Best, Cousin Figel
He OBVIOUSLY loves that guitar and the memories that go with it 👍
I have a white Stratocaster I feel the same way about ♥️
Good on you for bringing it back to life!
Priceless!!!!!!
Nice work Sean - great job!
A little purple stripe on the headstock, replace the screws. Dam Nice Job, custom to 😊😊😊
I bought a peavey predator plus today for $80 at a pawn shop 😊
Score!
Double locking Trem? I had a dark blue sparkle one for a while. GREAT guitar for the $100 I paid for it WITH a Tweed HSC!
I played the shit outta that thing. I wore out the knife edges on the trem and it would go wildly out of tune if you used the bar or put too much pressure on the bridge resting your hand on it .
Sold it to Guitar Center. They gave me $140 trade in credit for it! Paid $100 for it, played it for two years and was paid $40 for the privilege! Ha! They even let me keep the case!
Nice! I had a Peavey Patriot in the early nineties that I really liked. It was super light and sounded awesome. I traded it for a Dean playmate, because the Peavey was an unfinished body, and the Dean was shiny lol. Wish I still had that old Peavey
I'm not crazy about the color but the sound is 100%
Thanks again it was very informing. Most people wouldn’t show their tricks to anybody. Thank you for that you seem like you want to help people.
That was amazing. Loved how you brought it back better than new.
I always enjoy your videos. They always make me laugh and when I'm having a bad day they make it better.
Thank you 😊
Wow fantastic work !
That is one loved guitar
My opinion is only cos it can be slightly better... matching the headstock with the same purple and stain the pickguard in black. Colors are just opinions, cos the work you did was killer. Congrats. I'm suscribed now!
That's things a rockin machine. I love the new colors
Love that you play all these electric guitars acoustically.
Thanks for the great video, I really enjoyed watching you do the work to transform that Hamer Explorer!!👍
Not much of a guitar player, less than mediocre, but I love messing with guitars, I love your approach to things. Watching your videos has given me the confidence to refinish and refret my first guitar neck. Thanks Sean. God bless you and Cathy.
We never give ourselves enough credit for how we can actually play. Well, most of us anyways, Ha!
How did your first re-fret turn out? Did you run into any unforeseen issues? Anything you would do differently on your next fret job?
@@joeyvanostrand3655 I bought pre cut stainless steel frets. I would've taken more care removing the old frets. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I will be posting a video soon of the process.
@@MrMichaelConstantine awesome? I just subscribed so I can see it when it's done!
Needs a SCARED truss rod cover! Nicely done chief!🤑
Surprised you didn't sand the headstock and apply the finish to it as well.
What a cool video with a cool guitar owned by a cool guy and brought back to a better life by 2 really cool people. I honestly wanted to see more work on it, but I get why you cut to the final product. Thank you for this awesome vid.
Sweet
I have an old Hamer….good guitar…
beautiful result... you really make me wanna go out and buy some machinery to do this myselt
Man that guitar rocks! Love that maple pickguard. Maybe a Curley maple veneer on the headstock?
Man that’s a sweet guitar. I’ve always wanted a Hamer Explorer (I’m a big Rick sNeilson fan since seeing them in 77), so I’m lovin this!
Edit:That finish looks gorgeous even though I don’t care for satin finish on guitar bodies, but that guitar looks amazing!!!
I live about 2 miles from Rick lol I see him occasionally
Thanks for the new ideas. I don't do much, help friend's when I can. I'm an electrician by trade. Got the "Could you help me out, it's broken" plea. Managed to make it work, & it's been off to the races since then.
You did a super nice job on this one. Love that purple.
This is a Slammer XP-1 by Hamer. They were made in Korea and later Indonesia. The Slammers had bolt on necks while Hamer USA guitars of this type had set necks. Hamer USA guitars have held their value very well, Slammers not so much.
wow u really did this guitar justice
The original Hamer Standards, also shaped like Gibson Explorers, are some of the best looking guitars ever made..in my opinion at least. They had those nice maple tops with burst jobs on them. They looked like a combination of a 60 LP and an Explorer. Rick Neilson loved them too.
"Glow in the Dark" Fret dots for the Ozzy "Shot in the Dark" Explorer.
3:05 new hit song right here!
That stain job is sweet!
Great job Sean ,what would I have done? Maybe glue the neck in or possibly recessed screws and washers and get rid of the neck plate and that’s it.Liking the wood pickguard too 👍👍🎸🎸🎸
Awesome job. The guitar looks and sounds great. Looks as good as a brand new one.
Best Video Yet😝
I would've used Red instead of violet on the body, or an orange..
Likely stained the pick guard to match.
And added a custom S~G (Scarred Guitar) wood burned truss cover
But thats only me.
Turned out A-Okay..
Was some Nice Work accomplished.. and as long as Mr Trey is Happy! That's really all that matters!
🤘🏻
Wow. . . the care you put into that fretboard and stain Sean. . . the finished product looks so good and sounds awesome!
I would have like watching how you put the new truss rod in, we saw you plug to old hole but not put the new rod in. Nice job once again, Great Videos as always.
I havent finished this yet cuz I was watching it on TV and noticed that neck and body is cut to be glued in! Do it!
that purple is sick. the fished product is sick too!!!
You are the man Sean I know I do NOT have the mad skills nor the patience to pull a job like that
It’s a Scarred Shreddings! So he bought it new in the 90’s? Or it was used in the 90’s? Either way, he wore those frets to the bone - how long did that take, lol?! And he put new strings - was he still playing it, lol?! Gotta love a well loved and played guitar that made music a memories!
Btw, those screws? If you nick yourself on them, you better get a tetanus shot! 😂😂😂
That thing just got some much needed love. Great touch that you added lumen lays for fret markers. Trey will always think of the love you gave his guitar you every time he plays that thing at night. It’s like mood lighting!
Edit: just saw the end of the video. That purple was a surprise finish! Pun intended, lol. Wasn’t expecting to see that! Cool!
Looking forward to hearing Trey play it live!
Gotta say it again fantastic rebuild. You show the goods here. Will join again soon as I get a few money situations taken care of. You and Cathy rock.
Matching headstock would have been cool but turned out nice.
It would look a lot better with a different pickguard
The pick guard lets it down.
Love it!!! Maybe not crazy about satin finish but love the color and look of it. Sounds awesome! I liked it when he brought it in, but wow, it’s super nice now. Great job Sean n Cathy!!! This is one I hadn’t seen before, could be one of my favourites yet.
Hey Hammy ❤
Hey Shawn, greetings from Moncton NB Canada,I noticed that you use a razor blade to take the back panel off, a dart from a toy dart gun works great........ Will
That purple blue shading is the sex, man. I already love what you do with innards but that color made me swoon. Glad you kept the historical aspects, even though the black and red remnant headpiece is cringe but I totally respect the decisions and lore of this guitar. Beautiful job with the frets/board, as always.
Maybe that hole in the body in the neck pocket area is used in the factory to hang it for the paint job..
¿Is that right?.. 👍👍🇪🇸🇪🇸
@@jasondorsey7110 Thanks for the info.. 👍👍🇪🇸🇪🇸
MAN!! You are the Man 🎸🎸🎸🎸 Thanks for sharing 🎸🎶🎶🎶
The new color kicks
Looking good!
Absolutely beautiful job. Was the riff you played when you switched to the middle setting Before the Dawn by April Wine? If so, it brought back memories of over 40 years ago.
Sean!! Awesome job!
I unfortunately may be forced to do my first refret, with stainless, and under the most roughest of conditions, with minimal and cheap tools. As far as the hodgepodge of screws goes, sometimes it truly is any port in a storm captain.
You can do it man!
Oh, of that, I have no doubt. The questionable part is how playable it will be when I'm done. In the meantime, I am also trying to justify it on a fernandes dragonfly x when I could just get a new guitar for a few dollars more.
looks great!.nice color..neck looks pretty sweet also!
Glad you left the mojo on the back.
Protect this man from himself!!!!
When you look at factory overhead tracks that carry the bodies thet are hung by that hole in the center of the neck pocket no super secret stuff there
Yup...long video. But I watched the whole damn thing...very educational!. Thanks!
I have a 1980 Hamer Standard. Bought it brand new on September 30 1980. Bad ass guitar. Plays like butter and it's a rock machine. It's a case queen now and worth some serious cash!! Mine certainly does not have bolt on neck. I have owned three Hamer USA models. Chose them over Gibson in the late 70's. Better quality and the prices were not ridiculous for a hand made by pro luthier guitar. None of those had bolt on necks. They were all hand crafted in the USA. The ones I owned that is.
It is a Slammer by Hamer. They were made in Asia,
SMG, have you ever heard of Evo Gold (white bronze?) fret wire from Germany? They supposedly make propellers and prop shafts out of it. Goodall Guitars uses it on their acoustics. Some say it is as durable as stainless yet has a better sound; perhaps a more "nickel-like", warm sound as apposed to the chimier stainless at the same price as stainless. Yes i am aware that the difference in tone between nickel and stainless are quite negligible, however it would be cool to see you try it on one of your next builds. Would like to hear your opinion on it, and thanks for sharing your videos!
Came out GREAT!!! Love the design picks for this one!
Hi, outstanding work, loved how relaxed, you made that burst, outstanding colour, and man, really liked that you used, the small vice as a third hand to solder properly and easy, hahaha and the wire pliers, great expensive tool🤣.Now I want those dot inlays for my strat. Cheers. Congrats to you, Troy and Mrs. Scar my guitar.
Sean and Cathy, this is M. , I had to change my handle, my channel is Bill now. I haven’t been getting notifications for chats, and I was wondering if I am still a member. I enjoy the chats. Thanks 🙏 I have learned so much from you. I am hoping to have my sight back and a steel plate in my head. Thanks, you can deduct my dues as they come due.
The SMG knows his stuff ! and Kathy !
Unique guitar. I don't blame him.
The purple top looks great!
hope you got paid well for the total rebuild!!! great to see that it was something that could be done, at least by you.
I woulda said “yer welcome.” Sean…. You are a badass. Great video.
That looks like the purple people eater
glue that neck in throw those screws out!!! it has the right setup for it, long tenon and all. i have a kit explorer just like that but no pick guard and my trus rod never worked lol. im not gonna do what you did tho. thats too much for me lol
That body came out gorgeous!
Nice job on that finish young lady!🤘🤘
No everything you done was great that thing looks and sounded real good great work
Man you did a great job! I like those pick ups!
Awesome job
Rock on man love your show
You guy's did an awesome job!
Absolutely beautiful job! Wow, love how the violet burst blends to the black back and sides. And that wood pickguard.... 🤤
Do you have a list of all the upgrades/new parts? Didn't look like the same ones in the description but maybe I'm wrong.
The only thing i would have done differently is refinish the headstock face, but maybe the customer prefers it this way.
Those are PC computer screws holding the pick guard down.
Great job Sean the guitar looks awesome!
Hola.
OMG Sean what a great end result like I said OMG that’s SICK and you rock Bro very detailed review with the way you show and explain a blind monkey should be able to make a great Guitar Awesome job bro
