- In-depth preview of the new BMW S1000RR. We had a talk with Josef "Sepp" Mächler,, BMW S1000RR product manager, at the EICMA, trying to get some insights on the way it rides, the way it was built and how you can set it up for the racetrack. Here’s our 2019 BMW S1000RR in-depth preview.

Big respect to Sepp Machler - I've seen several of these interviews now and he's not showing any sign of getting back bored. He must've done 100s of interviews. Shows how proud of the bike he is. Great machine. Should do well in race trim..
My reflection as well! Respect
Truly the man you want to work for the motorcycle industry. Much cheers !! 🍻🍻
This bike it’s totally ugly it looks now just like a Kawasaki ninja 2010 this bmw it was it was totally different before it was unique that’s what it make it better than the other bike now it’s like the other bike another R1 or ninja or Honda always I’m jumping back to ducatis those are really real bike
You are soo right, majority of the interviews he's energetic and excited, meaning bmw is the way.
He actual seems like a really cool guy.
BMW nailed it again. Love it.
I'm just glad they finally changed the headlights on these..i hated that unbalanced headlight.
Yup. That was some shitty picasso thing. I hated it. Pity they deleted rear lights, because they were very very sexy.
Man this new RR is something else..I want one...
You are my favourite Moto Channel on youtube! Keep up the great work and we need a review of the 1250GSA ASAP! Cheers!
I like the bike a lot more after this talk
My exact immediate thoughts! Couldn't agree more, BMW mottorad only have the best of intentions
BMW continues with their litre class benchmark.....👍
White master race.
Beautiful bike. I'm not a 'racey' rider, but I appreciate all of the work that's gone into this machine. If I was to get a litre bike, this would be the one. 👍
much better looking bike, love it
I love it love it love it ! Finally Bmw gonna stop scratching my symmetry obsession with that two face. It looks like i8 and i love to see bmw lines on the motorcycle. Simple, modern and beautiful. Good job bmw!
I have a 2014 HP4 Competition. This motorcycle is the next big step in the evolution of the s1000rr line. This is the motorcycle that will replace my HP4 as my daily driver....
You ride an HP4 as a daily rider, Jesus Christ man!
HP4 Competition :)
Keith O that’s dope sauce
I love the new headlights, look much better and meaner than the previous ones.
Simply beautiful and capable through extremely complex and professional methods.
The VVT in the new Gixxer 1000 is flawless and a very simple design. Is it patent?
yes, Suzuki has a patent on it
It was only a matter of time before another factory would apply it to thier bike. Its funny how simplicity just works!
@@adult1122 - the system Suzuki uses is so simple its almost perfect,BMW obviously cant copy it so their ShiftCam VVT whilst quite clever is mechanically very complex,i cant wait to see how it performs when bikes get tested etc.
Rocco u right. The bmw has less toque than the 2019 gsxr r. The gsxr has low down torque all the way where the BMW comes alive at 10 thousand revs. And that's BS!!
And the quick shifter is more smoother on the gsxr as on the bmw
Finally they got new headlights! Looks like a real BMW now
The front end is awesome
Thks for the insight.
Excellent interview!
Amazing bike I must say
Did they resolve the heating frame issue on this new model? the frame used to get VERY hot that it is impossible to touch it. Are they hiding the part that could enter in contact with the rider- or did they isolate further the engine from the frame?
The new look is nice. The two things i will miss are the back light which was a piece of Art and the shark agressive fairings
I am interested to know if they made it more confortable for city daily riding also?
Looks like the ergonomics change moved the frame a bit away from the legs, so there is no heat issue if you don't have to touch it
Never really had an issue with that. Don't get me wrong the frame does get hot but at minimum I wear jeans and it's never transferred enough heat to hurt or burn. A good set of riding pants and you don't even notice it
@@custommotor I wear Jeans also and good set of riding pants when on track, but when the outside temperature arises to 35 degree I cannot ride my bike anymore :(
Do we know if they made it more comfortable for city daily riding also?
Got to say I'm a bit dubious of the new ShiftCam Tech but otherwise an impressive follow on from the previous model.
Great interview! Really interesting to listen to!
Good interview thank you
Having one of these
amayzing
So the bike has built in GPS?
Great interview!
I love the new facelift of the bike. The new HUD and the overall design and familiar shape of the S1000RR series. The upfront front area, not like on the ducatis and gixxers, which are kinda depressingly narrowed downwards.
I got into bikes when I was just 14 years old. Loved the bike scene, craved about bikes and used to play them in games more often than regular racing cars, in this case: Project Gotham Racing 4, Yamaha R1.
I loved the R1 from, those big innocent eyes ... but yamaha fucked that up with some alien-ish slick eyes, which I personally don't like at all, like the Z1000 front. Bought the Z900 and I don't regret my decision at all. Sporty, aggressive, no scream but deep grummle. A supernaked in my collection. Missing a supersports.
Looked after the S1000RR. The features, security, safety, whatnot - a reason to buy, but that pre-2019 front ... sorry, but that was a no go for me. I don't mind asymmetrical stuff (our faces are the same, when even slightly) but frankly said ... the S1000RR was just meh.
The 2019 model ... erases all my doubts buying it. I wouldn't, won't and will never regret spending 22.000-ish euros (my own setup) for this high class bike.
This is THE INTERVIEW! Thanks you really made like 50 journos irrelevant thanks
i couldnt listen to this broken english
Gixxer you don’t need much English to understand motorcycle specs! And these extra details they speak about are interesting
I Luv u bro I saw ur unboxing BMW HP4 2018 model that was my first time I saw u then I was ur big fan
Amazing ❤️🖤
I really love the gen 1 look =(
I love this bike , a hope i can afford it one day .
BMW what the mister is describing is called VTEC and Honda invented it almost 50y ago! The VFR 800 has it. A wonderful bike! The kick remindes me when i was a teen and had Cagiva Freccia with aps... When opened the little 2 stroke gained wings!
Bmw has had vvt or vanoss for decades...just there first bike with it
Beautiful....!!!!! 😱😊👍
Did i get it wrong or you can really change gear with your left hand without using the clutch
Great intro for the bike, but the gsxr1000r gives more low down torque then the BMW. This is a track bike not a road bike. Unless your mad to drive it above 10ths revs all the way, where the gsrx has more torque.
maybe i took the short bus but i have watched this and they talk about new modes and such . and the m having pro mode . but can the systems be turned completely off. as in . ABS off, tc off , no wheelie control or rear brake being linked . also did not hear if you can control the engine braking either?
An important question to the S1000rr DriveMag community:
My S1000RR 2017 Bike pulls to the right when I let go of the bars and I need to compensate by pushing more on the left handle bar all the time even if it is slight but it is disturbing. On track it causes some unbalance when the front wheel rises a little bit on acceleration and land down not on a correct position.
I heard that it is the clutch cable that is wrongly fixed from the factory on the right side near the radiator that is too tight (or loose) causing the issue as it tends to impact the steering.
DriveMag: Does any body know if BMW has an official fix for this issue? it is really annoying - my friends are experiencing the same issue also.
please advise.

THE HEADLIGHTS...
BOTY ‘19 has already been won by this BMW. It’s incredible... every aspect thought about and without those stupid asymmetric lights it looks incredible.
There’s nothing about this bike I don’t like.
D.B. ✊🏾
Very well.
Judging by the previous S1000RR atrocious reliability (yes, I had one), this new variable valve timing tech is sure to be a pain in the ass...
João Soares Was it really that bad? I’ve always heard either they are very reliable or very unreliable.
@@chaseeubank2071 my experience is that they were very reliable. my friend has a 2010 that he bought new and it still runs fantastic without issue.
motograce I’ve always wanted one, this one may be the one I pull the trigger on.
I have a friend with an 2015 S1000R that has over 80,000+ km. No joke. My 2017 S1000RR has zero issues as well. Plus BMW has an unbeatable warranty period from the factory that is extendable. You probably just had a lemon.
A friends one always had problems with the quick shifter not working and needed replacing a few times and the water pump failing a couple of times before he sold the bike
Wow. Wtf
... the oil pump and water pump is the same unit!? 😍 thats sick as fuck
I think you need two microphones, so we can hear your questions better...otherwise, learn the interviewer flip technique, but nice piece anyway.
Great job BMW :)
BMW ShiftCams Technology
Same as
Honda VTEC
Sean C - not quite from what ive seen.
2:55 My 2010 S1000rr's Water/Oil pump are already one unit. What is he talking about?
I have a dream to build a w configuration engine in my bike.."nimble sleeper"
The back tail view reminds of suzuki gsx1000 year 2006 model. And the front part at the headlight reminds of R1 1000 yamaha models.
All the people complaining about the new headlights are the same people who bashed the old one for being funny looking.
啥时候能买起
english pls..?
is the suspension still electronically adjustable ?
yes as stated this is still a DDC kit but much better
Dope AF just wonder wat the price tag will be
It’s £19200 or £15200 for base
@@corbycom what is that in u.s?
@@corbycom and do you know what the difference will be regarding the base model? Thanks
whats the point of holding the mic away from you when you ask a question
Will the engine break down?
I hop not cause i want 1😂😂😂🤣its a pay and pray situation with bmw!
Yamaha's had race tech since 2015 and now other brands have come to the party.
Đẹp !
Front fascia is finally attractively sinister
Great bike, love the new technology, like the new look dont have a problem with it, except for the rear, the fact that they removed the rear lights and replaced it with plain plastic in my eyes makes it look ugly, I would've bought but that alone is just a major turn off.
I will miss in the new BMW will be the shark gills !!!!!
facilitates as much as possible :-0))
Great video. This bike looks sexy AF.
From Malaysia
Shift cam reliability ? only time will tell my friend, we are the real life guinea pigs, keep the great work.
German engineering at it's finest. I don't have any question about the reliability of the engine as a whole.
Can't say the same about electronics, though. Lol.
Time will tell, beautiful machine, love to hear Josef talking about de bike, the guy knows how to sell it
Andres Escobar On loads of cars with no issues for a long time...even my Seat.
Chukky aka Ian no doubt 🙏🏻
Andres Escobar gs series = absolut reliability
Great video, can't wait to see the performance. Keep up the good work. Yeshua (Jesus Christ) is the way!
Bike looks AMAZING but why get tid of tail light??? The old one was BEAUTIFUL they could have kept that one.. EVERYONE gets rid of that extension on the tail so why would you eliminate your tail light and put them on this ugly piece??? Other than that this bike is Ridiculously Gorgeous!!! Thank god they didn’t put those ugly fins that Ducati has on V4R... totally kills that bike too
@hec feliciano - simple, you can now just unplug the rear fender for track use and not have to cover the light, also weight saving. It’s a brilliant idea.
Ask the expert what they been smoking when decided to apply bicycle front end geometry to supersport bke. - Forks angle too steep, trail is way too short.
They all puff n blow about all the different new models get demo rides and see what you like best
The specs are nice inside wise, but the outside specs threw me away to disliking it, one there is no tail light, it’s with the indicator, the front lights look garbage and I really loved the previous model style with the one light circular and the other regular, really brought a sense of creativity and it’s different than the Standard. Lastly they don’t really stress the shark fin fender, those small things is what brought a lot of people to loving the previous model , this bike kinda went backwards.
Well I mean the only reason they had to do the circle and square light was because of certain laws pertaining to Headlights. I guess they finally got around them and can do to Circle headlights like they originally wanted to
Japanese bike?
daammmnn
I dont like the face they the water pump and oil pump are one unit. Othet then that its a beautiful bike
Please tell me they made the engine more reliable. Before my neighbor crashed his 2012 s1000rr it had engine knocking. And he took care of that thing! Bmw should make 2 models one which has max power and all the computer aids and a cheaper one with lower hp and little computer aids. The only reason bmw has reliability issues is because they push their engines beyond engineering capabilities. At humber college I'm taught to only use tensile strength up to 60% of the yeild stress bmw is up at 80%. Thats why their K series last long because they detuned those bikes for police officers. What alarm's me is that he didn't even talk about the water pump/oil pump that much and the ball bearings in the crankshaft connecting onto the connecting rods. As much as I love bmw untill they address these issues will ride my 2009 fz6r till she dies.
im almost 30 and i cant afford one... all i know .. deymn
Put the mic closer back to your mouth when you speak. I barely cannot hear you
Mr. Sepp is fantastic but the interer has not, there was a flaw she calls the motorcycle new Honda, there is no excuse that failed.
Please someone teach the interviewer that when HE speaks he should get the microphone closer to his mouth and not on the interviewee.
Fuck these tail lights.
Is this one going to be reliable or is BMW going to keep leading the list of the worst brands in terms of reliability?
Good, those stupid looking headlights are gone.
Cfg
from Pakistan
boys played well
Finally the front doesn't look like it has down syndrome 😜
This is Swiss man not German! They are friendlier
Don't trust this man! The Swiss are very friendly while they smile at you and handle you over your 4000 EUR speeding ticket!
@@Actionlutz lol 😁 yes they do indeed
Schnauze du Lappen
These guy needed to finde different job if he wants to remain alpha. He cannot ask a question and chop it before responding. It was do annoyed for me. If I was the other guy I would have Walk a way.
No brembo and no ohlins, why bmw? 🙄
Brembo emblem was on rear brake caliper. Watch it again.
@@LazyGrayF0x yaps, i mean front brake
in another interview they stated that they were not satisfied with their previous brembo brakes, so they did their own development. There are obviously very good brembos, but I guess they thought that they could get a better one at this price point by making them themselfes.
Because this bike is already perfect without one of those things
Yamaha R1 also doesn't come with brembos 🤔 I wonder why
Useless questions man. Sorry
Good luck Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha!
And V4R :D
@@KristianKG V4R is vastly overrated so much toque loss for top end if you're not exclusively a track rider i don't see any good in this bike. I personally much preferring V4S it's overall superior bike if you want to combine road and track.
Yamaha are the true innovators and had race tech since 2015 and now copying Yamaha's idea's other brands have come to the party. 😂😂😂
Captain Risky What are you talking about? Who copying Yamaha? Yamaha never been at the top they always take 4/5 and sometimes 3 at the superbikes shows. R1 is a cool bike but it offers nothing better than s1000rr or Panigale or even zx10r or GSXR1000r. I had r1m 2015 and mt10 2017 for one year and I got majority disappointed very uncomfortable bikes that require a lot of mods to make them rideable. Very awkward power delivery. Eats fuel like freaking jet plane while delivering mediocre performance. Even my old s1000rr 2010 was much more powerful and had much better comfort and fuel economy and that bike was 5 years older than my r1m. Valentino made Yamaha name so popular but in reality they’re nothing special or exciting. With the technology part European bikes are miles ahead today Japanese just focusing on the economy these days and not doing anything new and Honda is best offender here.
@@monarosteve383 yamaha never had vtec honda and suzuki got their own type of cam timing first then yamaha did. And I'm a yamaha fanboy i ride a 2009 yamaha fz6r and even i think your comment is stupid. Do some research dude
