    My opinion on this is quite different. I never felt uncomfortable playing with my m16 running triple A games at performance mode. Yes it can get warm but not disturbingly that you would stop gaming.

    Thank you, I've literally been waiting for this review for forever. Been eyeing the 3070 ti with 40 gb ram for quite a while, but the temperature in some of the reviews was never posted. I run a basic elevated fan platform with my current laptop and it fixes it for an old Apache I have and it's a massive difference maker, but boiling point heat is a bit much.

    These companies can't keep making more powerful laptops in smaller chassis'. MSI is just a big a culprit. Maybe it's time for some more r&d into better cooling or just stop making them so small.

      MSI gaming laptops sucks. I have the GS65 9SD stealth and it overheats like crazy after a year of using. Literally can't get 60 fps for gta5, not even close to max graphics

      @@biggiesmalls7939 Actually he is correct, I bought a Gf75 10sdr - clean and barely used, and its because of poor vent design with the low profile chassis coupled with an OP CPU (i7 10750) that causes the issues. I even re-pasted with thermal grizzly but it didn't make a difference. I have an apache pro with slightly lower CPU and better GPU (1070 vs 1660) which doesn't suffer this problem and I can game on it without it capping 80C While the 10sdr would often reach near 100C. I have even tried tweaking the power and turbo of the 10sdr but its just a really poor design.

    I'm very confused between M16(2022) and G15(2022)
    My concern is if I choose the M16 does the heating issue will slowly make laptop worsen in upcoming years or it can be managed by keeping a cooling pad?
    And with G15 this year's amd performance was not better than Intel.But Intel have the heating issue so what should I buy?
    And the 300nits display is enough? Because most of the time i used to do my work inside my home.
    So what's your opinion?

    • @DewDaDash
      @DewDaDash 2 роки тому +3

      I'd recommend going to a local Best Buy and checking yourself the display models. I compared g14 to g15 and m16, personally I thought 300nits was lacking for g15 so then between g14 vs m16 for me. Prefer the larger 16" screen but don't want intel cpu which will have lower battery life and possibly heat issues like this video shows. So I chose g14, also figured it's a nice form factor for uni, productive work with light gaming when bored. g15 probably gives the best performance with an Nvidia GPU+amd CPU but just felt it was too dim at 300nits in comparison and pretty noticeable. Hope that helps, go to a store and see if 300nits is good enough for your needs.

    At this moment in time, one might start to wonder why still go for M16, besides the QSV-enabled AlderLake under the bottom lid, when Asus also has the new ROG Zephyrus X16 that supposedly fixes a bit and adds a few tricks over M16... Mayhaps we're going to see a few comparisons between these models, alongside the Zephyrus G15 thrown into the mix? M16 has Intel chip, suprisingly slightly better I/O and a matte screen of the better AR type (in my honest opinion) going for it, in contrast G15 trades the taller/more useful screen for the traditional 16:9 matte panel with AMD 6k CPU/APU replacing Alder Lakes, while X16 has G15 internals with 2 DIMM slots now and a reflective miniLED taller panel in a convertible 2-in-1 body with slightly more limited I/O due to support for Asus XG ROG Mobile eGPU/dock combo... Asus being Asus decided to compliment the AMD CPU with nVidia GPU and are offering the AMD dGPU in the eGPU options... but given AMD's push for efficiency, I wonder if this was not a mistake, and instead maybe a better option would have been to get the AMD CPU+dGPU combo of the refreshed efficient designs (as then AMD Advantage could allow SmartShift to better utilise power and control heat while in use) with nVidia dGPUs delegated to the ROG Mobile eGPU option. Guess only time and tests and sales will tell.

    The painful part is I have not started using it for anything intensive, no games, no computationally complex task, just surfing the internet and reading PDFs as a grad student. I am so disappointed. The first one I got, did the same thing, I went for a replacement just this week and it is behaving exactly the same, even worse since the older one comes back on after a few minutes, the new one went off this dawn around 2:24 am, and didn’t turn on till 9am this morning

    The MUX Switch for the direct RTX 3070 or 3080Ti.
    You must Switch the Laptop off, otherwise the gpu Load will exceed 100% after a few minutes and the fans run fast.
    Standby and Hibernate Modus are working right only without MUX switch…

  • @WildfireX

    Thing is, what about for someone like me that has no interest in buying the 12900/3070 spec laptop?
    I never look for 900 specs because they're always hot as fuck in every intel iteration.
    The spec I want is the 12700H/RTX3060. Simply because I want a 16" laptop, with a great screen that's powerful for all work/productivity things but has a dedicated GPU in case I ever want to do light gaming (never a top end demanding game, I have ps5 anyway).
    I'd likely never see the kind of temperatures that you're seeing so presumably it's a great but, especially when it's £1500 or £1600 like it has been this last month

    Not true at all. Just don't buy the 3070 version! I have the 3060 and its fantastic. Longer battery, runs cooler and I get 130 fos as it runs at 77 max temp. GPU max is 72. So don't believe every biased opinion out there.

    • @WildfireX
      @WildfireX 2 роки тому +1

      Literally what I've been saying. I want the 12700H/3060 version because I'll never need the performance boost from the 12900 over the 700, so I won't get the extra temps... Plus I have PS5 anyway so I'll barely game on my laptop (only light things like hollow knight Silksong).
      Outside of that this laptop looks like the perfect machine apart from maybe weak battery life of 6 hours?
      The screen looks amazing, the design is great, it's the perfect size, touch ID good keyboard & good IO

    I agree with your thoughts on the Keyboard. The 3080Ti Is HOT. What seems to be missed is the constant fan spin up and spin down. Using a 2 year old equivelant laptop, I can watch UA-cam Videos without the fans neededing to let me know they are working. Also my thoughts are that laptops, even gaming should be a bit more stealth in their approach. Anything that has a "Jet engine" mode is missing the point. I should be able to be around people and use this without clearing the room.
    On the 3080 Ti I have Thermal images taken that show 60 Celscius Hot points on the top side of the keyboard, regardless of Mode it was set too. I struggled hard to justify this laptop too myself and have inevitably sent it back.
    Funnily enough I was able to at the same time compare the 3080Ti M16 with the Razer Blade 15 on MW2... I set the M16 to Perf mode, my friend had the razer on balanced. We compared setting (same Resolution, tesselation, ... All of it, it was the same). The Razer out performed the M16, The Razer Specs are i7 with 3070. I Think the main point is the plastic chassis doesn't disepate heat as well, and what ever Asus did to optimise the laptop wasn't good enough, hence all the Blowing.
    I know there are people who will say, "But you can Manaul" ... However I now have a lower spec system, with OOTB Config, running Quieter, Faster, AND Cooler than the M16 So, y'know, wtf?

      This is the best looking laptop I have seen, tiny bezel full screen display and very slim considering the amount of power. You might want to get some glasses or sum.

    it`s sad too see that after all that fuss with eco and climate only one company goes the right way, with lower power and great performance: apple

      Apple still isn't the best especially with their stance on repairing devices. Besides it's more important where you get your power from that determines this. Desktops do consume far more power as well as other appliances

      Can someone tell me if the M16 with the RTX 3060 and the Intel i7 12700h has the same heat-problem or is it cooler thanks to its weaker components?
