Asus really needs to move away from this one stick of ram soldered to the mother board business. While you can still technically upgrade the ram using the non-soldered slot, you will lose full dual channel mode and may take a performance hit.
RAM needs to be extremely close to the CPU for best performance and reliability, I think they have issues with the space on sub 16"models. Their thicker and beefier laptops do have dual channel like the strix

Did you test the battery life on silent profile? Or basically the equivalent performance profile to the one used for your 2021 G14 battery life numbers? Because man 5 hours on a 90 Whr battery is rough (when you're limiting performance). Also, I know there are much more interesting laptops to review but, can we expect an Acer Swift X (R7 5800U/3050 Ti) review in the next 40 days or so?
Speaking of performance and thermals, which laptop is better, a G15 2021 (AMD Processor) or the M16 2021(Intel)? I don't really care about the web cam, i just care about it performing excellent under different scenarious (gaming and or coding/bioinformatics/etc). Thanks!
almost perfect for you , perfect for me who just ditched my macbok (in wait for M1x) and hating my XPS 9500 :)) just got one yesterday and I'm super happy. A gaming laptop with 16:10 and 500nits display.
hey matt, great review as always. would you recommend the m16 over the g15 to a student whose priority is portability? is the m16 considerably ‘chonkier’ than g15? does the m16 feel bulky in hand?
There are pros and cons to both The G15 is a bit lighter, and it has significantly more battery life (AMD ftw) The M16 has a Webcam, plus the screen is 16:10. But due to intel the battery life is limited The in-hand feel will be mostly identical, as the extra screen in the M16 takes the place of the chonky chin of the G15. But, depending on what you can compromise on (and what pros you choose) either laptop can be prefered (I use g14 btw)
@@theprovost weighing in the pros and cons for both of them really points towards the fact that the m16 is definitely a superior choice for the masses. i can definitely trade in for a 0.10 inches thicker device which runs an hour less on battery for a 16:10, a webcam and a slightly faster cpu.
@@twenty-1 agreed, if only the M16 also had an AMD processor, it would be pitch perfect. But 16:10 and *having* a webcam are still massive advantages, especially for coding/content creation/meetings
The M16 is very rugged and durable, it has been around since 1964 and still gonna demolish the Legion 5 in seconds. Legion 5 on the other hand, can hardly put a dent on M16. Choose wisely.
I think Asus will offer better build quality (except that heat blowing on the screen concern) and Lenevo seemed to have edge because of better cooling and MUX switch. They are carrying same display and same RAM (at least as per JT). Otherwise both look modern in their own ways so for me it comes down to how much premium Lenovo adds for MUX switch, especially for Ryzen version as that's what I am waiting for to be in stocks
Would you recommend buying this or the Lenovo Legion 7? The Lenovo one has better specs (AMD 7, 32GB RAM, RTX 3070) but I'm not sure if that translates in actual real life performance.
If you use the laptop in a laptop stand, like a vertical laptop stand where the laptop is closed (and you're using an external monitor), do you think the fan exhaust placement would negatively impact performance?
I'm very confused between M16(2022) and G15(2022) My concern is if I choose the M16 does the heating issue will slowly make laptop worsen in upcoming years or it can be managed by keeping a cooling pad? And with G15 this year's amd performance was not better than Intel. But Intel have the heating issue so what should I buy? And the 300nits display is enough? Because most of the time i used to do my work inside my home. So what's your opinion?
@@MatthewMoniz I've said it before, I'll say it again: You're one of the best tech reviewers on UA-cam, with the perfect balance between comedy, professionalism, and everything important.
I have been looking for my first gaming laptop!! And I really like this one💞 I did have a question though, whats with that blinking light under the screen? I have seen that in multiple videos. 😕
Matt, I'm super curious you reviewed the Gigabyte Aero 15 with an Oled screen. Like you, I mostly use my laptop for photo, video editing, and cartography. Which screen did you like better? Second question, is the i9 and RTX 3060 processor worth the $300-$400 upgrade over the i7 and 3050 Ti at least for your uses? Last, would you go with the G15 Advanced with AMD Ryzen 9 and RX6800 over the M16 or Aero for your own uses, or is the screen that much better on one of the others?
it does have a mux switch. in armoury crate you can turn the discrete gpu off. my concern is the ram. it seems you can only get the 16g, with 8g soldiered on, so to have more ram you'd need to use intel's memory flow service? which seems like it would have to be slower than dual channel? i'm impressed with it's power and it's ability to be actually silent in silent mode. i loved the quality of the legion 5 pro but quiet mode was too loud for how i plan to use the laptop. cool channel dude :)
Can u help me please what should i buy ?(and why please) M15 with AMD Ryzen 9 8 Cores and 8 virtual 16 GB RAM 8 GB 3080 RTX Or M16 With Intel i9 14 Cores 16 GB RAM 6GB 3060 RTX Please planning for long use ? .....
It's almost perfect but it's windows. Changing the fan speed is pointless while using windows. I have a HP Envy 15-Ep00 from day one out the box the camera switch notification worked, the mute mic notification worked, and the hp command center worked. I updated windows the notifications stopped, the command center doesn't work, and the wifi 6 is pointless without the command center. I'm happy to become a Apple user of the M1 Mac Mini and the M1 MacBook Pro.
The ASUS Zephyrus M16 is a great laptop but would you rather have this or the G15?

@@sohailbarvar7817 bro do you think I'm going to buy it 🤣. I don't buy stuff. I'm just a tech enthusiast who wanted to see the thermals and battery life or the Razer blade 14.
@@sudarshan1354 😂 same here ...
@@sohailbarvar7817 When you factor in design and aesthetics and it’s CPU(which is standard across the board) it’s only slightly overpriced
Its a shame that BEST BUY does not ship internationally . I am paying a 2020 4800H Lenovo Legion 5 at $2000 in my country ! I want best buy but they don't ship internationally . Hopefully they read this .
Yes same problem here
Hi I rlly like ur video. I was wondering what the M16 i7 3050ti 1920x1200 response time is?
Did you test the battery life on silent profile? Or basically the equivalent performance profile to the one used for your 2021 G14 battery life numbers? Because man 5 hours on a 90 Whr battery is rough (when you're limiting performance).
Also, I know there are much more interesting laptops to review but, can we expect an Acer Swift X (R7 5800U/3050 Ti) review in the next 40 days or so?
help me choose pls: ASUS 16'' ROG Zephyrus M16 GU603HM Lenovo 16'' Legion 5 Pro 16ITH6H ?
M16 is definitely the sexier one
There are pros and cons to both
The G15 is a bit lighter, and it has significantly more battery life (AMD ftw)
The M16 has a Webcam, plus the screen is 16:10. But due to intel the battery life is limited
The in-hand feel will be mostly identical, as the extra screen in the M16 takes the place of the chonky chin of the G15.
But, depending on what you can compromise on (and what pros you choose) either laptop can be prefered
(I use g14 btw)
M16 has way better speakers too if u care abt that. But max fans may be louder
Can you do a review with Triton 500SE? I'm waiting to buy one when it becomes available in Best Buy.
Comparison between M16 and Legion 5 Pro?
The M16 is very rugged and durable, it has been around since 1964 and still gonna demolish the Legion 5 in seconds. Legion 5 on the other hand, can hardly put a dent on M16. Choose wisely.
Different form factor, would be meaningless. Strix G15 is more suitable for it
I think Asus will offer better build quality (except that heat blowing on the screen concern) and Lenevo seemed to have edge because of better cooling and MUX switch.
You deserve a million Subs!
If you use the laptop in a laptop stand, like a vertical laptop stand where the laptop is closed (and you're using an external monitor), do you think the fan exhaust placement would negatively impact performance?
I'm very confused between M16(2022) and G15(2022)
My concern is if I choose the M16 does the heating issue will slowly make laptop worsen in upcoming years or it can be managed by keeping a cooling pad?
And with G15 this year's amd performance was not better than Intel. But Intel have the heating issue so what should I buy?
And the 300nits display is enough? Because most of the time i used to do my work inside my home.
So what's your opinion?
Which would be better ASUS M16 or Razer Blade 17 for gaming and entertainment
M16 with 90 wh, the worthy adversary to phased plasma rifle at 40w
Subbed for the M16 joke, what a great laptop. Still kneels before the G15, though.
You can actually get this with a 3070 so comparable to the g15
i purchased it for $1499! pretty good deal at best buy!
Wouldn't be a Matthew Moniz video without 2.17% of the video talking about sticker placement...
Only UA-cam covering the most important topic of the laptop
@@MatthewMoniz I've said it before, I'll say it again: You're one of the best tech reviewers on UA-cam, with the perfect balance between comedy, professionalism, and everything important.
Zephyrus sounds like a narcotic name so you don't want to tell TSA what's in your bag.
More the reviews i see in this channel... More i feel like im having a laptop from 90's!!!
4:25 I feel called out, but thanks for the heads-up.
Still don't like the cover, hoping for a refresh of the Zenbook pro with a 3070/3080? Or a Zenbook Duo with a single screen?
Display looks amazing! But in all honesty, I am totally fine with my G15 :D
Hi Mathew I urgently need to know if we can use M16 without battery - plugged to charger?
I'd want to keep this machine for a decade or so.
This is on sale right now with a i9 3070ti for under $1400 is that a great buy instead of getting a 40 series laptop?
I have been looking for my first gaming laptop!! And I really like this one💞 I did have a question though, whats with that blinking light under the screen? I have seen that in multiple videos. 😕
Kudos to the Nvidia sticker guy, happy!
Even for a laptop, why would you even tell your teacher you got a laptop in your backpack???
Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503 vs.
Asus ROG Zephyrus M16
Witch one would you recommend?
Matt, I'm super curious you reviewed the Gigabyte Aero 15 with an Oled screen. Like you, I mostly use my laptop for photo, video editing, and cartography. Which screen did you like better?
Second question, is the i9 and RTX 3060 processor worth the $300-$400 upgrade over the i7 and 3050 Ti at least for your uses?
Last, would you go with the G15 Advanced with AMD Ryzen 9 and RX6800 over the M16 or Aero for your own uses, or is the screen that much better on one of the others?
intel is far better for gaming performance compared to amd
that flashing white light just means the laptop is asleep
For those unfamiliar with American English “Soddered on” = soldered on.
When your going airport security telling what model your laptop is?
You:Asus zephyrus M16
Security:What did you say open his luggage emmediately
how it goes against the lenovo legion 5 pro?
How would you compare this to the Legion 5 pro? I'm debating between the 2
it does have a mux switch. in armoury crate you can turn the discrete gpu off. my concern is the ram. it seems you can only get the 16g, with 8g soldiered on, so to have more ram you'd need to use intel's memory flow service? which seems like it would have to be slower than dual channel? i'm impressed with it's power and it's ability to be actually silent in silent mode. i loved the quality of the legion 5 pro but quiet mode was too loud for how i plan to use the laptop. cool channel dude :)
Can u help me please what should i buy ?(and why please)
M15 with AMD Ryzen 9 8 Cores and 8 virtual

With Intel i9 14 Cores

The Legion 7 is also 16”. Which would you pick?
Which is better between the Asus Zephyrus M16 or the Gigabyte Aero 15?
Who's here after watching the awesome live unboxing?

Now I just need to wait about 8 years for this kind of setup come to the Brazilian retailers
everybody gangsta while M1X macbook from APPPLE comes in.....
It's almost perfect but it's windows. Changing the fan speed is pointless while using windows.
I have a HP Envy 15-Ep00 from day one out the box
the camera switch notification worked, the mute mic notification worked, and the hp command center worked.
I updated windows the notifications stopped, the command center doesn't work, and the wifi 6 is pointless without the command center.
I'm happy to become a Apple user of the M1 Mac Mini and the M1 MacBook Pro.
