A nice look down memory lane. About the duplicate Splinter, the implication I suggested was that had Vol. 4 been allowed to continue, maybe the apparently alive "original Splinter" would have turned out to be a huckster. And maybe that "flash forward" from Vol. 2, #1 of a Turtle killing a Splinter would have been what happened there. But we may never know for sure. - Andrew
Regarding the fake Splinter reveal, another possibility that comes to mind every now and then is the possibility that there were more than just two Splinters (the one that raised them which may or may not be the same that Donnie took an earlier DNA sample from, the one that died, the one that became the Daimyo, and perhaps more). Since he hinted at (and used) time travel several times during Volume 4, I wonder if his plans for Splinter had anything to do with timelines. Probably not, but I think about that sometimes.
Also possible. I kind of wanted to keep a wide berth about things that may or may not have happened in Vol. 4, as in if it'd continued. Like Regenta's babies. If I commit to them being real, like really Mikey's kids, then I'm making a Vol. 4 decision, because it could easily turn out to be fake. Which would be my thinking, given Peter's general thoughts about him liking the Turtles to be the last of their kind, alone, and isolated. And if I say the Splinter reveal at the very end of Vol. 4 was totally legit, without question... well, what if it wasn't? Then I'd be making another Vol. 4 decision as well. I wanted to avoid all that stuff altogether, just sidestep it out of respect for Laird with what he may or may not have done (or may still!). I think the best I could do was an offhand reference to "that Splinter" in Origin, maybe. Also, I'm sure you did, but did you understand the reference between "The Adversary" and and "Twilight of the Ring" in Mirage? @@TheTurtleNexus
@@RetconMediaI just finished reading the entire comic digitally and I do think it is amazing what you and a team of people we’re able to accomplish out of love for a franchise and although people have there problems and always will but to get the full brotherhood falling out to the end of their lives and the guilt the turtles felt for existing questioning it is still something I feel is really what made the story the turtles around the fire drinking moonshine is a definite highlight of the comic.
I really enjoy stories like these that not only acknowledge the existence of previous shows and comics of certain franchise, but also finds a way to explain the existence of new shows and continuities. It worked well for Transformers, when they made comics acknowledging the multiple TF shows, comics and movies, but never put them in a good or bad light. Just giving them a proper spotlight to leave fans satisfied. With TMNT Odyssey, it would’ve been easy for the story to simply make the Image Comics Turtles into a joke, or made Venus absolutely pathetic showing up. But instead, a lot of the characters get their moments to shine, and while it resulted in those characters dying, they never went out in a pathetic fashion, they still had some good spotlight in this story. They don’t try to ignore the past stories that were bad marks on the franchise, but instead work around them, if it helps expand the story. I like to interpret the ending as while one multiverse collapsed by Shogun Michelangelo but a new one was rebuilt by Shogun Leonardo, I don’t think it was completely the end of these continuities. The video already explained the ‘87 Cartoon still exists in stuff like the crossover with the 2012 series. But if a new multiverse was created like the 2014 movies, IDW and 2012 shows, it’s possible the ‘87, 2003, 2007 and Next Mutation universes were restored in some way. Like if the 2012/‘87 Crossover was implying that those universes were not only brought back, but that there were many more based on said universes, like the TMNT Saturday Morning Adventures or 2012’s Tales Of The TMNT.
I agree with the whole universe reforming thing. It's a decent explanation. But to me, many characters that "show up" in this story are out of character. And I cannot help but feel that the female characters were pretty much butchered personality wise. Venus first was bullied into going against the turtles, then feeling like she shouldn't exist, she sacrificed herself (which everyone was OK with), and then she came back, used her powers wrong and died. I don't think Venus was well represented. If you go over the fan fiction that came before Odyssey, I think Modeen was thinking of his own version of Venus, and wasn't really paying that much attention in the way the character used to be in the TV show. I think the story could have been told with less plot points, less characters and more time to flesh out the main story and characters. The whole second part of the second act is skippable, for example. Venus and the Time lords could have taken a bigger role during that part instead, or maybe something else regarding the extra villains. Or maybe delve into the state of mind of the turtles more. Having said that, I get why people like the story, it's just that some writing choices get in the way of me enjoying it.
Thank you so much for covering these stories. I have no interest in reading them, so having them covered in this format is perfect. Your work is excellent 😃
This is really enlightening especially in comparison to last ronin and how odyssey kinda foreshadows the split of kevin and Peter w Michaelangelo being the first turtle drawn
The 2012 TMNT show, in my opinion, was the greatest animated reboot of the series. You can tell that Cero Nieli loved and respected the TMNT property. Thanks Cero for a great run!
I'm surprised Viacom hasn't made a department dedicated to TMNT content with how much gets pumped out on a regular basis. They could even called it Mirage Studios because the name isn't being used at the moment.
You’ve made it this far, that’s quite an accomplishment! From going by the name How Bizarre Studios to renaming yourself The Turtle Nexus, to making your own merch store, you’ve had a quite a journey, met tons of people (including yours truly), and made quite a name for yourself throughout this entire time. From all of us to you, Turtle Nexus, Thank You For 100 Episodes! So with all that said, only one question remains: What’s next for your channel?
Michelangelo’s decision to destroy the multiverse could’ve been a result of his own depression and disillusionment at the fact that his brothers grew apart, everything and everyone he ever loved was gone, his power up from Mr. Null, and the Turnstone itself. Just watch the “Eye Of Sarnath” video, it’ll prove my point with the Turnstone.
If only The Forever War could get an official conclusion through IDW. Next year is the 40th anniversary of, well you know. I’ve told you about I’ve contacted Chris Allen about The Forever War, haven’t I? You know I also suggested to Andrew Modeen if an official version of the comic was being made, a few minor tweaks could be made like (spoilers) there’s a flashback of Shredder and Ninjara fighting in Islam, they could just edit that out. The dialogue could altered too like “You were a better warrior in my timeline, A TIMELINE LONG GONE!!!”
