    Hello everyone, I am currently a student at the University of the People. I am about to start my 3rd semester and everything at the University of the People has been amazing since day one. I have taken 3 courses so far: one of them about emotional intelligence was the best course I have taken in my entire life. I joined the University of the People the day I heard President Reshef's talk. I like the way he explains things, I like his innovative approach to education, I like his vision and his mission. I like it for its clarity and for its simplicity. I believe that education is the key to change the world, so if you have good English and you have some hours to spare per week, please read more about the University of the People, apply, and make your dreams come true. Take care and best of luck with everything you do.

      +Jourdan Nguyen Hello Jourdan, thank you very much for your question. Of course you can. You can apply to the University of the People if you have a high school degree. You can pursue your degree in your own university and you can also follow one of the programs offered at the University of the People. It is really up to you. However, please note, that to my knowledge, credits can't be transferred from your college to the University of the People and vice versa. Best of luck. Please don't hesitate to write if you have any additional questions. Take care.

    Shai Reshef's idea of spreading ultra-low cost model of higher education is really a great idea. I wish Governments all over the world should replicate this idea and educate their masses rapidly to ensure growth and progress. Born out of spreading free education, our own "Open School" also getting involved in this kind of mission. It is an excellent, disruptive idea and that should be laudable.

    • @Pakanahymni
      @Pakanahymni 7 років тому +85

      youngbloodx Well yes and no. If you are a student, the government actually gives you money around $600 a month for free no strings attached if you are a student, so that effectively negates the tax cost for the person. I'm still incredibly happy to pay taxes in a country where they pay for everyone's university tuition instead of military campaigns on foreign soil.

    • @izzyxyoung
      @izzyxyoung 7 років тому +11

      Pakanahymni Even then you're still paying for the coming generations' education in taxes for the rest of your life. And even then, there is not as much of an incentive to increase quality if schools are going to get paid no matter what. And you guys are tax payers, are still overpaying since many top notch universities post their courses online for free, and you can pay a small fee for a certificate to get jobs. My friend got sought out from Google because he took Data Science classes from MIT on EdX, and he didn't even have a college degree.

    • @Pakanahymni
      @Pakanahymni 7 років тому +39

      youngbloodx You're talking about these things as if I didn't want to pay for other people's tuition in my taxes...? Of course I want to help other people actualize their full potential because in the end that's best for the entire nation.
      The quality of schools is very high, I assure you;

    Its 100$ per exam, 40 exams on a 4 year bachelor degree. In Germany you pay 0 - 280$ / semester if you study local (including elite universities) and around 2000$ for a complete regular distance study bachelor degree. So even a for-profit regular distance study program - for the bachelor in computer science for example - is possible for half the price of what they offer.
    If 4000$ for a bachelor in computer science is big news for US citizens, your hats would fly off if you'd see our health system.

    This is such a good idea. It transcends governments, politics, religions and cultures. It lets people learn and earn a degree regardless of socioeconomic status. It actually empowers people to build a career and a future for themselves. I think we need to expand this idea and the UoPeople. I heard enrollment is rising and they are developing an MBA program. Many US colleges talk about “going global” with their overseas study/travel package, but who can afford that. The UoPeople has been global since day one. Students don't just ride the bus past international landmarks, they interact with real people from around the world who are working to build a better future.

The most amazing part is the entire community of UoPeople as it makes the learning. experience interesting due to people from varied backgrounds age and culture. Really really good! It's the best way for me to persuade my dream. University of People is still my future dream to earn my degree. I'm preparing myself especially my English. Once I'm ready I'll go for it.
    I used to fill up the application form, but I was asked to pay the registration fee $60, I do not have any English proficiency to proof my English. The only way to pay the registration fee first then take English class (provide by UoP) If I'm not wrong. Taking the English course I have to pay another $50 even I don't pass the exam. For this reason makes me worry to go for it or wait. But I decided to wait preparing myself first when I'm ready I'll jump into it. I believe UoP will still keep my account validation until I get back.

    A degree at UoP doesn't open doors to a professional career at any of the competitive institutions, nor do the courses transfer to any reputable institution. The information gathered from the courses MAY or MAY NOT be useful. Also, your classmates won't be from the most competitive schools, either. Anyone who can read and write in English is admitted. So, how good is a degree from an "internet college" like U of P really worth???

      I'm already employed so I can't speak to this personally, BUT I will say most of my classmates in the MBA program seem to either already be employed or be right on track to find something. Basically, the MBA students are largely management at organizations in other countries. I'd say 1/5 are Americans or US-based. I feel like I'm the only one who's not in investment banking, engineering or working as a doctor somewhere. The students are smart and ambitious. My only "advantage" is having English as a first language--otherwise I feel like my classmates are significantly better qualified than I am, and it makes the program kind of tough. Not a bad thing I suppose.
