- Freezing Winter Summit Tarping on Pendle Hill in the Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter LT
In this video, Tom and I head up to the summit Pendle Hill to enjoy some time in the Mountain Shelter LT tarp by Mountainsmith. The weather was bitterly cold and some snow is still lying around the gullies. Take in the wonderful sights and sounds of this spectacular area, with beautiful scenery and ambient sounds of nature and the great outdoors.
We sheltered from the elements on the summit in our tarp and enjoyed a warm drink courtesy of a simple Trangia burner. As is customary when hiking in this area, we finished with a visit to the Pendle Inn - an atmospheric pub in the stunning village of Barley.
A lovely day in our Great Outdoors and more memories made
Thank you for watching; Chris & Tom

@@MCMOutdoors your very welcome Chris. Looking forward to next one. ❤️👍
Good to see you both back out 👌
Had my eyes on that shelter for summer camps. Great to see it in action. Atb 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it mate and a great little shelter to bring along on a hike or for overnighters!
Having watched your channel for years, seeing Tom suddenly like a young man makes me feel old 😂
They grow up so fast, he's a good lad, well done Tom.
My daughters nearly 18, an like you chris I'm sure you're asking yourself where that time has gone !!
Great vid thanks, Phil. 👍
Yes mate - realising it a lot recently. It's good, but a bit of a sad feeling. Life seems to be getting faster! Ah well, onwards and upwards (for as long as we still can 🤣)
Nice winter time in the great outdoor 😊😊😊
Absolutely ace being out in the Winter!
Beautiful father and son time ❤ I am in the process of training my lad for D of E too, such a lovely chance to get out together 😊 well done Tom 👏

Lovely way to spend and afternoon with Tom.

Great adventure. Thanks for taking us along. Always enjoy when Tom or Emily join you. Wow! Tom has grown so quickly! Wishing you and your family a wonderful coming week.
Thanks Denis - hopefully a wild camp next! ATB
Great to see you out with your lad. Good luck to Tom on his D of E.
I go and camp with my lad. We didn’t get to do it when he was a kid and I get a bit emotional when is see this. My
Lad’s name is Tom as well. He is 29 now and I’m 53 and I hope we are both still getting out together on the trail when he is 61 and I’m 85.😅 nice one Chris👍🏼
No such thing as too late to start mate - plenty of adventures for you both and then some! Atb pal 👊👍
I carry one of those 2-person fluorescent orange nylon emergency shelters on day hikes, and have used it several times for a lunch stop on the mountain tops, or simply to take a break when the weather gets bad. It certainly keeps the wind and weather at bay and the occupant(s) can get warm(er) and feel safe inside, but movement is extremely restricted and I certainly would never think of using a stove inside it. In that respect, that tarp-shelter you have is certainly more practical and more flexible in its its useability 😊
Decent bit of kit mate! 👍
Cheers Chris , as per thanks for taking me up pendle again ,, always love it , on our 3rd month down in Spain in our camper escaping all that lovely weather in Brittany. Not ..
Hope the weather brightens up for you guys!
You’re a good Dad, Chris 👍
Thanks for watching mate!
Raven calling in the whistling pines. Bliss.
Glad you appreciated that 🤣 it took me ages to film and get a shot I was happy with, as lots of passers by. I love capturing things like that and weaving them into the videos. Nice one 👍
Brilliant video, good luck with the DoE bronze, I did my DoE gold way back in 1984, loved every part of it!
Thanks Paul - I wish I'd have done mine! Tom will smash it 👊👍
Hiking trip phone ban incoming 😁 that eye roll too!
He's a good lad - ill let him off 😊
@@MCMOutdoors he looks it! Tarp looks mint too 👌
Great to see back out Chris 👌 atb
Thanks for watching mate 👍
Nice hike out with Tom that Chris. Cracking little shelter from the cold. Good luck Tom with your D of E 👍
Thanks Joe! His main worry is what food he's going to eat 🤣
Lovely afternoon adventure. Tom could just about hold his laughter together at the start 😂 as for the phone...it gets worse! My child is 36 and actually cooks meals with it still attached to her hand 🤦♀️ it's a epidemic is what it is. 😂
Haha, yes - it definitely is. Was great to be out!
Nice laal day out mate.👍
Always great to be outdoors 👍
Hey todd i hope you have a good torch with you and a bottle of holy water
🤣👌
Ey up me duck.
Did a wild camp up there beside that wall last year and called into the pub for a cheeky one 🙂
Good to see you out with yer lad, fella.
Ay a good'un me owd.
🤜🤛
Good man! Thanks for watching!
Nice to see you get out with your lad. He's grown a lot. I see D heads have pulled more stones from the wall. I can't remember how many times I've rebuilt that wall. How can anyone think that's okay?
Yes, last time it was just two........ Nonsensical.
I've not been up since Storm Bert. I'll sort it again at some point.
Nice tarp tent , would you recommend this or a square tarp and make a tent from it , I'm a novice and beginner
This is arguably easier. Unlike another comment which was removed, this is absolutely a tarp (a single piece of material / sheet) and is not a tent. It's marketed as a tarp too. DD 3x3 tarp is nice and can be made into an enclosed shelter. This is very simple and nice and light. Great refuge from the elements to throw in the pack.
Hi Chris are those the leki normal Makalu or Makalu 'light' poles, I'm thinking of getting the light Makalus but not sure if they would be long enough for steep downhills as I'm 5ft 10. Thanks for any advice.
Hi Rob, they're the standard 'Makalu' - I'm 6ft tall and they're absolutely perfect. Very good quality - cannot fault so far and owned almost 2 years
Thanks Chris I'm considering the normal makalus as well for the extra length but wanted the 'light' version to save a bit of weight when carrying them and because they fold down smaller, I'm unsure which to go for. Thanks again. Rob.
@robmartin4927 I don't count the grams mate, so makes no difference to me. Good luck with your decision 👍
Another great vlog. What alu wind protector are you using?
Cheers. Just a cheap robens foil windshield. 👌
@@MCMOutdoors Top man, thanks. Great L/Wt addition for my next trip. Keep up the great vid's.
@thequietprofessional8435 simple and effective 👍
See any 🧙 being rolled down there 😂?
Not this weekend 🧹
Finding the right piece of music to complement the images you have harvested must take some skill and in this video you found two! From about 11.28 mins onwards this film transmuted into something else entirely - lyrical, touching and just a little bit melancholy.
It was absolutely lovely.
Thanks - always takes a long time to find a track that fits 👍
