@@tylerweathers4883 well, that's because the excitement level of "new game" has died down. If I see someone doing a fort, it's like: "awe, man, he hasn't even loaded his ship yet, do I want that? Nah, what's 20k anyway. I'll leave him alone, he probably just logged on." Back then it was basically a constant: "everyone wants to PvP at all times because yes." Which is just how new games with PvP usually work. I solo sloop often and will hit up several forts, camps, kill a meg or two, some skelly crews, have a good run, few hours go by and not even see another player; worst case have a little chase, maybe run into a friendly, if I see someone AFK than I just leave them be or I'll pull up and surprise them by leaving a skull or chest infront of their character and sail away. The game definitely hit its "cooldown" period during covid, the Playstation update gave the game a small resurgence but really didn't give the game the numbers that Rare was hoping it would. Now we're all just kind of waiting on a substantial content update. Hoping season 14 will be good and give PvP the spark that it's been missing.
Played in the first month after release on XBOX hated so much because of the grind. Now came back after may years, joint a random pro player who just ankered at Port Merrick and helped him sell all his loot for 950k :D
Just a heads up for any new players: the example of play in this video doesn't specifically take into account his experience. He mentions it during bailing, but even his aim, his movement in combat, his micro-decisions with regards to where he drops loot for later (eg: all from the bowsprit, or on a rock for harpooning). These are techniques you'll learn only with experience, but keep heart. A lot of quality of life changes have been made since its inception, so take your lumps when they come and don't fall in love with your loot. While learning, dumb things will cost you your haul, and you may feel hopeless. Some may seem out of your hands (a skelly galleon is not as simple to scuttle when you don't know how to aim cannons), and others may feel unfair (a player one-balling you in the face only to sink your ship while waiting to load in). It's a sandbox, and there's plenty of sand to play in (pun intended). Feel empowered to scuttle to a new server if you see a Reapers Bones ship or you're being relentlessly chased. Be aware, however, that scuttling your own ship, sinking for any reason will drop all loot aboard. It will float on water for five minutes with birds flying overhead if you manage to get back to it - though you'll need to know about where you sank (easier said than done, I know, but I've done it). Depending on how fast you learn and develop these winning techniques, it may take you a lot longer to reach 1mil gold. That's okay - there's no achievement associated with it except the bragging rights. Sea of Thieves is equal parts danger and wonder, and if you get caught up in the lore, the emergent possibilities, and the thrill of the best ocean and ship management in the world (my opinion), you'll find hours upon hours of enjoyment. And finally, you don't have to do it all yourself. You don't even need friends, but what Ledge didn't show you is at the top of your (main) mast, is a flag box. On the second page is a "Friendship" flag that, when flown next to another ship flying the same flag, will group you in a (however temporary) alliance. You can still be killed by them so don't drop your guard completely, but you may enjoy what's known as a server-wide alliance from time to time. This is when all ships band together yet still playing separately. Any gold made by any ship in the alliance is shared with the rest of the alliance. It's not super common (happened twice in about 1500 hours), but it's lucrative and "safe." It's a sandbox, after all, so be ready for anything. Welcome to the Sea of Thieves, and become more pirate!

I have SoT on my Steam library from 2019 and just 2 weeks ago I realized what it means to be a true pirate. I started engaging more in pvp and earned my first million in the matter of few hours. I wouldn't go back to the Sea of Thieves if I didn't watch your videos so... thank you man ❤🏴☠️
honestly, the wheel taking damage truly is THE most annoying thing! as someone who is usually helm its a nightmare, especially if it keeps happening over and over again .-. … but besides this absolutely relatable thing, this is another brilliant video! i think not only is this a fun challenge to watch and maybe even try out, but this video got so many helpful tips and advice, i wish it’d been out when i first started playing! it’s another cliff masterpiece that i thoroughly enjoyed watching

8:59 brought my older brother who has never played the game before to an ashenlord boss fight and he did pritty good. We even sold all the loot without any fighting so i would say it went pritty well

Started playing a week ago and love this game. Won my first fotd yesterday after exploding a galleon with a stronghold bomb while my friend distracted them.
When i started out for the first 3 weeks all i did were sea forts and made 1.4 million coins before learning about captained ships... i wanted to alt+f4 life
This was so fun to watch. Good memories grinding (enjoying) out my first million, first ship, pirate legend etc. I feel like I’ve completed the game now and haven’t played in a while. But what a fun journey it was!

Safer Seas is only good for Tall Tales and lollygagging/exploring the open world, not much else. But hey at least you won't be bothered by random ships while trying to get your gold curse.

Just got the ghost curse during GAG last weekend. I couldve gotten it waaaay earlier but I didnt want to get the last 4 levels out of lazyness. Now I got both pvp curses and hourglass ptsd.

9:40 I’ve completed the skelly fleet loads of times with the base cannon balls you just need to land you’re shots several times in a row and the skelly ship will likely scuttle.
Being gatekeeper-y about it really doesn't help anyone. Older players take for granted how much gold they have in their pockets but new players are starting their journeys every day and collecting their first fortune is a big deal to many of them. Downplaying it only cause "back in my day it was harder" is kind of shitty
@@CliffTheStoryGuy You're right, it was shitty of me to say it in that way. Didn't mean for it to come across in that sense, just comparing then and now with all the added gold income bonuses. Items to match the increased income were added such as the DA sets etc etc

thank you for the tips man I got sea of thieves on ps5 and now I just at reapers is level 22 and I got my mercury flag from reapers always up and I'm doing events like skelly forts and Skelly ships events and when im done I got like 280k from 1 hour or more in 1 hour and I always get my mercury flag level 5 until I sell so I get 150% more and I'm only playing a week I love your content and you helped me a lot in sea of thieves and I'm still watching you

41:30 i spawned into a fort with my friend once which literally had a brig at it already getting ready to try and swim a keg over, seeing that they didn't start shooting as soon as they saw us i wanted to see what they were like to tell my teamate on the sloop how to aproach them in naval combat. to my suprise the very first thing i heard coming from that ship was "IF YOU SHOOT US FIRST WE GONNA SINK YOU" at that point i pretty much knew they wouldn't be any trouble to sink whatsoever so decided to kill that guy and then taunt them by repeating their words as they started desperately trying to repair their broken masts and dove to a different server.

By the way, for all of those who saw Cliff putting skulls into chests, you can now also just grab a chest and then hover over small items and pick them up that way
fun fact, if you select the tutorial and then vote to cancel it counts as "completed" and it unlocks the voyage of that faction. i found this out when the tutorial was glitched and i canceled it but it still completed so i did the same to the other factions and it worked.
Hey cliff a request I want to start playing sea of thieves and I would love to see a series where u Start from a brand new account as long as it isn’t to much of. A hassle ( I know there used to be a 100 days series but I would like to see one where u have much more experience)
One thing worth mentioning. I do believe if you start brand new you're forced to go through the maiden voyage before you can play on any Seas Which is not a bad thing. If you complete all of it, you get a nice little chunk of gold to start out with and some cosmetic stuff

Being gatekeeper-y about it really doesn't help anyone. Older players take for granted how much gold they have in their pockets but new players are starting their journeys every day and collecting their first fortune is a big deal to many of them. Downplaying it only cause "back in my day it was harder" is kind of shitty
@@CliffTheStoryGuy You're right, it was shitty of me to say it in that way. Didn't mean for it to come across in that sense, just comparing then and now with all the added gold income bonuses. Items to match the increased income were added such as the DA sets etc etc
But it was also pretty limited and got stale quickly. Also a lot less to spend it on

thank you for the tips man I got sea of thieves on ps5 and now I just at reapers is level 22 and I got my mercury flag from reapers always up and I'm doing events like skelly forts and Skelly ships events and when im done I got like 280k from 1 hour or more in 1 hour and I always get my mercury flag level 5 until I sell so I get 150% more and I'm only playing a week I love your content and you helped me a lot in sea of thieves and I'm still watching you

41:30 i spawned into a fort with my friend once which literally had a brig at it already getting ready to try and swim a keg over, seeing that they didn't start shooting as soon as they saw us i wanted to see what they were like to tell my teamate on the sloop how to aproach them in naval combat. to my suprise the very first thing i heard coming from that ship was "IF YOU SHOOT US FIRST WE GONNA SINK YOU" at that point i pretty much knew they wouldn't be any trouble to sink whatsoever so decided to kill that guy and then taunt them by repeating their words as they started desperately trying to repair their broken masts and dove to a different server.
Had this in the background during play. During the friendly player part of the video a player pulled up on me and asked for help with commendations.

By the way, for all of those who saw Cliff putting skulls into chests, you can now also just grab a chest and then hover over small items and pick them up that way
fun fact, if you select the tutorial and then vote to cancel it counts as "completed" and it unlocks the voyage of that faction.
i found this out when the tutorial was glitched and i canceled it but it still completed so i did the same to the other factions and it worked.
Hey cliff a request I want to start playing sea of thieves and I would love to see a series where u Start from a brand new account as long as it isn’t to much of. A hassle ( I know there used to be a 100 days series but I would like to see one where u have much more experience)

One thing worth mentioning. I do believe if you start brand new you're forced to go through the maiden voyage before you can play on any Seas
Which is not a bad thing. If you complete all of it, you get a nice little chunk of gold to start out with and some cosmetic stuff
