the output/input of the UV, check if there are any UV light coming out of it, you may need to add some metal tubing to those ports, so the UV does not degrade the PEX
Good catch, we did that on the shop set up but didn't have the correct parts when we went to install the main system. It is on our list to fix that as soon as we can.
@@1KGoffgridhomestead you may want to add a flow switch for the UV light, help extend the bulb life, having the UV only on when water is being used. if you don't want to add a flow switch you can use a Automatic Vacuum Switch that turn on the UV when the pump is turned on.
@@rkeantube thanks! I thought about that however, the instructions say that the bulb needs 3 to 5 minutes to warm up before any water should pass by it.
One suggestion. When I put our well water filtration in I installed two banks of filters in parallel. That way when servicing filters on Bank A there is still water delivered through Bank B. When servicing Bank B there is still water delivered through Bank A. Your water system will be down whenever you have to service filter cartridges and/or UV bulbs.
That’s a good point. I decided to use the Culligan filter housing which allows water to bypass the filter while servicing. During that time I would have only one filter operating but they are both 5 microns each so I figured I’d be ok
1. make a tool for the cistern valve 2. use this tool... no getting stuck in the manhole 3. just kidding.... you are doing swell...keep up the great work
I think that you are going to find that the STRAINER you needs to be on the PRESSURE side of that pump to actually clean itself with the valve on the bottom. That pump does not need a 50 micron strainer, it can pump sediment without any problem.
Great video ! That's a lot of $$ all that piping & pumps you must live where it don't get to cold ? I have a 15f well with tons of water i just used a sand point it works well, I don't have a big farm or use as much as you but you built a pretty awesome system 👍
Oh, it does get cold. The shallow well pump will be winterized once the well drys up and the cistern pump is in a heated insulated room and no pipe in the wall. Thank you for watching
Do you use the blue tape because you’re using the plumber’s putty instead of just the white tape? Also, it’s incredible to have just a 13 foot well and be able to use the water. The ground water pollution is so bad around here in east Texas due to oil and natural gas wells that we had to go 360 feet to hit potable water. Our shallow 60’ well was condemned.
The blue teflon tape is just a higher quality than the white tape and we add a liquid teflon to the threads as an added insurance against leaks. Sorry to hear about your well. We thankfully do not have anything above us that could contaminate our ground water except for the occasional moose, but we will still test our water periodically.

Can't you lower Amy into the cistern by her ankles????LOL
We tried that but she couldn't reach it. 😜
