I love a good Whisky Sour but if I might make a suggestion, you should try subbing the plain sugar in your rich simple syrup with some Oleo Saccharum, and then reduce the amount of syrup you use by at least a quarter ounce if you're using a good bourbon. You have to be careful with the syrup in this version since too much will overpower bourbon profile of the drink but if you balance it correctly the results will be magical.
I love how the All Recipes page has a note for the raw egg and recommends that pregnant women and children do not consume it. Because the bourbon is not the concern there.
My late grandmother LOVED whiskey sours so much that she requested that after she died her ashes would be interned in her favourite cocktail shaker! Of course we obliged when the day came! Just made this as an after dinner cocktail. Thank you kindly sir. Whiskey sour had long been one of my favorite cocktails but the egg white really kicked it up and added an extra dimension. Love it!
Chef John, I am in Florida and our AC just went out. Thankfully I have all of the necessary ingredients to make this, and you may have just saved my life. I mean you are after all the boss, (especially now) for getting sauced.
Oh, Chef John, I've been following and watching your videos for quite a while now. I must say, this is one of your finer and best videos. You really capture the essence of pleasure in preparing this lovely drink. Thanks for all you do!
I used to make these for parties when we were young marrieds. Nice to see they've made a comeback. A nice way to enjoy this on a very hot day, is to put it in the freezer until it turns into a slushie.
Chef John, 120 oz of Jameson and 60 whiskey sours later.....I'm still hooked!!! My wife, a few friends, and I thank you for this spectacular recipe. You gotta see my forearms from shakin it up!!! At least that's what I tell everyone.....
Love this. Simple but definitely a favorite of mine. If you're a bum like me and don't have have a proper shaker, you can shake it in an old jar or something and strain it through a regular strainer.
@@morganblackpowder1724 his method cuts it down to just a couple minutes from some of the ridiculous 15-20 minute ones but a couple minutes of shaking never killed anyone
Always been a beer drinker and not a fan of mixed drinks. But a couple months I decided to learn how to make some classic cocktails while I had the time. I started with the basics: Whiskey Sour, Daiquiri, Margarita etc. The Whiskey Sour is definitely my favorite. Still haven't brought myself to adding an egg white but I might try it next time.
I've been getting into Whiskey Sours myself lately. I make a variation that uses Maple Syrup and Black Walnut Bitters and it's amazing. (That combo is also great in an old fashioned, by the way.)
My favorite cocktail. I've made it before without the bitter which worked ok in a pinch. One time I added a couple of crushed, fresh strawberries as well. It balanced out the sour nicely.
This has been my pandemic cocktail of choice. When I haven't made simple syrup ahead of time and I want my drink NOW, I make a simple syrup by melting 1 cup of sugar with a half cup of water then add about 100-110 grams of ice to that to melt the ice and cool it down enough to use almost immediately in a cocktail.
One of my favorite drinks. I believe the addition of egg white makes it a Boston Sour and the addition of a red wine float (no egg white though) makes it a New York Sour. Cheers and thank you!
The whisky sour is the lemon meringue pie of the cocktail world. :) Lovely toasted vanilla notes from the whisky/crust, sweet lemon and egg white topping. :D
Are you making these for your mother-in-law?!! She’s always been my hero. Thanks for the recipe. After margaritas, whiskey sour is my favorite - can’t live by tequila alone. I’ve always mine with fresh lime just - is that just because I have limes left over from my margaritas. I’m probably a thumbs-down on the egg white but I may try it that way.
I'm not a day drinker... Well, I wasn't until this Whiskey Sour slapped me 'long side my head. Now I definitely am. Thanks, Chef. Now just keep one ready along with an Adirondack chair at Kismet for me.
if you have a hand blender at hand such as a Bamix, it would be a good idea to blitz the egg white in the shaker with the rest of the ingredients and then add the ice and shake. No need to dry shake, the foam will reach a whole new level and you get to eeen-jo-oy your hard-earned beverage a lot quicker. (Also doesn´t hurt to express the oils of an orange peel over the glass for an added fragrant element to the drinking experience.)
As a recovering alcoholic..I look at that dude and think "how'd you like to see a grown man act like a stark raving MANIAC? You are the best. And thank God I am sober...but you guys ENJOY.
My tips are, put the ingredients in the larger shaker and put the smaller shaker on top, so you don't have to pour any ingredients. Also, put the whiskey in last, in case you make a mistake towards the end (just before you add the whiskey), you've only wasted eggs and lemon but not booze.
Great one! Do love whiskey sours, with or w/o egg whites. Would love to see your take on other classic cocktails, manhattan, daiquiri , old fashioned to name a few. Ya know you can use the 1oz side of that jigger twice for the bourbon?? Or get yourself a 2oz jigger Keep up the good work CJ! Day drinking IS the best drinking! Cheers!

Well if they're pregnant and made the decision to drink anyways.

Currently trying to figure out how I can incorporate “you are the Tom Cruise of shaking booze” into all of my conversations.
Go to the bar a lot and order a drink that needs to be shaken and not stirred lol
Tom Cruise had the swagger of a three ball tomcat in that movie.
Havent seen a chef john video in a long time. Glad the charm is still there!
Just be careful. It's a risky business trying that. Some might say... Impossible!
It took me a few seconds to remember the reference. I got a chuckle once I did.
You can be the Boss of your stay-at-home Happy Hour, with this amazing Whiskey Sour!
I don't even drink alcohol and still watched this just for you, Chef John.
Very happy to be reminded of this classic cocktail. Very refreshing. Will be enjoying one today.
My all time favorite cocktail! The egg white is a must!! I've always added the bitters over the frothy egg white to add some nice color over the top.
