Yes...that's the beauty of something like this...skin and hair...a little goes a long way and it can be rinsed out if there are any concerns of greasiness...I love that she shared this!
This conditioning bar was a total fail for me. It was so greasy and oily in my hair, I had to shampoo three times to try and get it out. I even used ACV as a rinse and it still felt oily. My hair was an oily tangled mess after using it and my bath tub was a greasy mess and took me a lot of time to clean. This along with the amount of hair I lost trying to detangle the mess it made of my hair. So disappointing. My hair is thick and curly so I would not recommend this conditioner for any one else with the same hair type. All her other DIY projects, I have loved but this one, not so much!!
Same. I had to wash my hair several times. I had so much hair come out trying to brush through it. And it was heavy too. Maybe I'll use it as a shave bar.
That's because this is a lotion bar, not a conditioner bar. Try finding a conditioner bar recipe with BTMS. Anything without BTMS is not "conditioning"
So I made the conditioner bar and my hair is so oily and I can’t wash it out with water I need to shampoo my hair 2 times to get the oils out of my hair 😩 I wanted to love this so much.
Hey Laura! I would like to add some blue/purple to shampoo and conditioner bars for toning. I have heard of butterfly pea flower but your recipes don't have any water...how could I incorporate some steeped flower "tea" for these? How do you feel about mica powders for hair?
Thank you for all your DIY great natural body care recipes :-)! This conditioner has great ingredients which are highly moisturizing but when used with wax, especially on curly hair like mine, my hair became unmanageable, hard and frozen in time. It took two shampoos to get the wax and hardness out of my hair. I will be using the bars as a lotion for the body instead. Is there a non-chemical, no wax emulsifier that can be used instead for this formula?
@@elenishandmade2398 exactly! There is no emulsifier in this, which makes it useless for hair. This is not a conditioner bar, and should not be used as such. You can't just "rinse" oil out of your hair.
There's no water in this recipe so unless she was making a water based conditioner there would be no reason to emulsify. Adding emulsifiers to just oils only thickens and/ or hardens the final product..
This might not be subtable for all hair types after letting this harden for over 24 hours sampled this. For carrier oils I used jojoba and castor oil. Im have washed my hair 3 times and also tired to use a pantene shampoo conditioner to get this out but still have it stuck in my hair. This prodict coated my hair and matted it. My curles are hard and crunchy and my hair is beginning to break and fall out in handfulls. Use this recipe with caution I supose.
Pro tip: That’s because she doesn’t know anything about hair chemistry.. Coconut oil can’t penetrate the hair shaft because it’s too large on a molecular level. It just sits on the hair, weighing it down, making it greasy, heavy, and gross. Use Argan oil instead of coconut oil. Though, to be honest, as an actual haircare professional, I wouldn’t put all that heavy gunk on my hair at all.
@@vikingpaintwerxstudio7438 yah , as a soap maker and trying to move into conditioner bars and seeing so many different methods I see what you mean. Hair chemistry unique. Thanks for the advice. Might just move reheat everything and turn this into a soap.
The recipe lacks an emulsifier, which makes it impossible to be rinsed out. Like Cetylalcohol or BTMS or Fluidlecithin. This is a solid lotion bar and not a conditioner.
It left my hair so oily. I tried to wash it out, but it is still greasy. Did you finally get it out and how did you do it? I tried the shampoo and conditioner and it is sooo bad. I will stick with buying mine from people that actually know what they are doing.
Hey! So I finally used the shampoo bar and this conditioner bar recipe and washed my hair this morning. However, my hair felt really knotty in the shower after I washed it. Once I air dried it, it looks very oily and feels waxy. Is this supposed to happen? But overall, I am pleased with the bars, I just want to know why my hair looks and feels greasy.
@@ouroilyhouse Yes I did try it and it does help, thanks for the tip! I’m looking forward to getting this new regime under control. My hair actually does feel healthier!
I made this recipe recently and I'm actually not happy on how it turned out. It leaves the hair very greasy/oily. Does anyone have any ideas to give me in how I can re-melt it all and what I can add to take away the greasiness/oilyness. I would greatly appreciate suggestions as I don't want to waste this. All products are not cheap as we all know especially doTERRA essential oils.
Hair chemistry Pro tip: NO! You absolutely cannot leave this on your hair! That is, unless you want extremely heavy, greasy, dull, flat hair. Coconut oil can’t penetrate the hair shaft because it’s too large on a molecular level. It just sits on the hair, weighing it down, making it greasy, heavy, and gross. Use Argan oil instead of coconut oil.
I haven’t even used it , but even just taking the bars out of the mold, they are going to be a soft yucky mess , I’m sure in my hair . Hated to waste all my ingredients. I like the shampoo bars though.
@@ouroilyhouse Hi, so the shampoo bars turned out AMAZING!! Thank you, the conditioner bars turned to wax LOL what could have caused this ya think? as soon as it hit my head it instantly melted and became attached to my hair like a wax, took 20 minutes to wash it out :O
That’s because she doesn’t know anything about hair chemistry. Coconut oil cannot penetrate the human hair shaft. It’s too large on a molecular level. It just sits on top of the hair making it oily and weighing it down. Try the recipe with Argan oil instead of coconut oil.
Do you use it in the shower after shampoo? Can I store in the shower? Or do you put in your hair after you are out of the shower (towel dry hair) and just run it through damp hair?
Hi. I just found your channel. I wonder how many bars in would be able to make if I purchased one of each butter and one of each of the other ingredients? Approximately?
Hi Paula. If you put the mold on a set of scales, tare the scales then fill your mold with water you will get an approximate weight of the required amount for a batch. If it's silicone, don't forget to put some support under it or you'll have a mess to clean up when you take the mold off the scales. Make the recipe according to how much your mold holds.

I followed this recipe exactly but my bars dont seem to wanna set completely. I was assuming they'd be of a similar texture/firmness of a cold stick of butter but they're a little softer then that and I feel like they're going to mush up completely when I get in the shower with one. Do u think melting them back down and adding more beeswax would possibly help firm them up more?
Same thing happened to mine so I melted again and added more beeswax, but I think I added too much beeswax because it was really hard to put in my hair and left it waxy(it was bad lol):( but I did not try putting in fridge the first time so I think I am going to melt again and add more of the butters and oils and try the fridge lol.
