    Punching power is a product of movement efficiency and timing. Timing requires sparring, matches, drills, or some other reactive experience with an interactive target.
    But movement efficiency can be altered in a very short time with the proper ques.
    While the subject is much more complex than one might originally think, the basics of power producing movement can be taught fairly quickly.
    The technique focused on is called kinetic linking, and its use is common to all martial arts as well as any sport where power production is desired.
    Its a method that can come naturally to some, but often they can't explain it or utilize it to full efficiency until they can conceptualize it consciously. Once you understand this effect you can manipulate it consciously and maximize punching power in a very short time.
    I was originally taught this movement skill in boxing. Three months into boxing and I had discovered Roy Jones Jr. His punches had a completely different quality, one of explosiveness, speed and power. After practicing the movement on the heavy bag it became apparent why it looked so different. The power came from making an art out of my movement, in this case a left hook. This sudden increase in punching power was amazing. To this day I still refine the art.

    like the video dude. And to answer the dude below, yes the mind controls movement not muscles so this kinetic chain theory can be applied to any movement whatsoever. So yes it can apply to a backflip. You'll see the difference between people who backflip arching backwards or tucking forward into a small ball. Both styles activate different muscle systems and thus produce different movement. Liked the animation also!

    Just a nitpick: In swords fighting, you simply don't do overhead swings, since it leaves you wide open for enemy attacks. I'm not sure if it provides and extra bit of power to your swing but in either case you don't need it if you know how to use a sword. In any case, your presentation gets the point across.

    Just subbed your art is awesome and the explanation is top notch. I once did a full break down of the. 1 inch punch and it is truly amazing how it .mixes so much martial knowledge to generate power.
    It is best visualized like a taichi motion the crashes like waves from the non punching fist clenching through the shoulders down through the hips while sinking into the toes then heels drive back up into the hips and through the punching arm out the fingertips smoothly through each knuckle joint to the final closed fist that explodes out with a upward twist.
    There is more involved but the key is to literally be like water and let the movement flow u interrupted.

      In taichi they say if the body is like water the chi(energy) flow better

      @@johnnycash346 if you notice bruce lee pulls the non punching arm in ar he begins the punch a example of this can be seen in the traditional karate punch.
      It starts in the non punching hand and moves down into the toes if you watch him he lifts is heels very high and knees slightly bent so his legs become like springs.
      Think of this when you jump off something your legs can absorb the energy of the body weight and neutralize it.
      Well what if tou figure out how to
      Get your legs to generate that much force moving up and redirect it to your fist. Your wouldnt need much room to throw a punch.
      So if i re examine this the non punching hand starts the shoulder rotation as as that begins the legs explode with power as he drops his weight and springs it back too his punching hand.

    Dude I like your videos. If I had my own channel it would be similar.
    When I UA-cam throwing a right cross it shows you to pivot on the back foot. When you go to a boxing gym it becomes more of a step because you are always on the move and also can get more body weight behind your punches. When you leave your foot planted, Teddy Atlas, calls it leaving your foot in the bucket and can't maximize power. This is something that is not really talked about. Watch a boxing match and look at there feet when they punch."Every punch is a step."But the pivot is also an excellent fundamental to learn for the beginner because the step is an advanced movement.

    Is this kinetic linking something I should try to incorporate into let's say back flips or other basic movements

      Absolutely! In fact its something that most people are doing instinctively by the time they accomplish the first flip. Though you will see quicker, better results if you are doing it consciously. Kinetic linking creates energy efficiency and power in almost any movement pattern. Next time you try your back flip pay attention and see if you can find an area of the body that could be adding to the larger movement pattern but currently isn't. Keep experimenting and be sure to report back with anything you discover. Always love to hear about it :)

      We build power and sometimes we want to play with those powers, I hope you never play with that, it will just bring you a police registration and maybe a disabled person, or worse a dead man with a bleeding skull on the street.
