Thanks for the video. My '00 Runner has been shutting off right after a cold start. Sometimes 3 times. I'm looking at an oem IAC valve. Will try to clean it first and then eventually will get the oem one. Thanks for the instruction.
Make sure to get the Toyota brand "Denso" if cleaning it doesn't work. Toyota's are picky with aftermarket products. It wouldn't hurt to use electrical contact cleaner on your MAF sensor as well.
lol. Glad it helped. I have a 2000 model that I often work on, but keep forgetting to video it. I plan on recording everything else. That IAC valve is actually easy after you do it once. I recently replaced the fuel pump which was a nightmare. The next time, I will be cutting out a door under the backseat and fabricating a plate with a gasket to cover up the hole.
Really great Video. Simple and easy any mechanic from any part of the planet easely understand what are you doing and how to do it. Really Nice Bro. I am Subscribing Now to watch more from you because I have a Tacoma 3.4 liter and I love to learn some thing from your experience.
The 3.4 is easy to work on. I do a lot of work on this one, but never think to record it. I just replaced the radiator and alternator on it without recording it. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up.
@@davidhenriquez4939 Cleaning the old one often works. If you end up buying a new one, DON'T buy any cheap aftermarket IAC's for your Toyota. Denso only.
I believe 96 and up models don't use EGR valves. This one is a 2000 3.4 liter. No EGR on it. I've read where cheap auto parts store code readers will show a code for an EGR even if one doesn't exist. What year is your 4runner?
Great video to follow along to! Quick question: I have a 2000 Runner, had a P0171 CEL and light sputtering at idle and sputters/hesitates heavily when accelerating at primarily lower RPMs. I replaced the MAF, PCV valve, dumped injector cleaner in tank, new air and fuel filter, new upstream and downstream O2 sensors, newer plugs and wires. Now no CEL but still sputters heavily under acceleration. Ideas?? IAC?
With this 4runner, it never triggered any codes. It had an idle issue. High and low. I don't think it actually sputtered. Did you buy a factory toyota MAF or a chinese version? These yotas are picky. It can also be a vacuum leak after the MAF. Check the tube that goes to the throttle body for any cracks. These are very prone to cracking. One other thing about these 4runners is a weak fuel pump will cause the sputtering. It can still pump fuel, but it is weak. If you have a scan tool, check the live data for the MAF. It should read around 3-4. If it reads 5, it is junk. Then check the tube going from the MAF to the throttle body. If you find any cracks, use black gasket maker or grey on the cracks for a temporary fix and see if that helped.
@@Pr0ph3cy-k5z Thanks for your reply. I got Partschoice MAF sensor. Forgot to mention I also replaced the throttle tube because of a crack. I'll have to get my mechanic to do the live readings and go from there. Thanks!
Would an IAC valve issue also cause car to stall on stops on top of the idle issues? My mechanic says I have multiple misfires but no codes and thinks its an electric issue. 4runner forums all tell me to change IAC valve first then try injectors and plus next if that doesn't work. thoughts?
Yes a bad IAC can cause that. For the injectors, try dumping a bottle of injector cleaner into the gas tank. I would clean the MAF sensor first. Do you have access to a scanner? If you do, make a note of the TPS, MAF, Fuel Trims at idle and post the numbers. Can you feel it misfiring at idle?
If it is indeed the IAC valve, no matter what, DON'T cheap out and buy aftermarket crap. Toyota's don't like those. Go with the factory part. You may get lucky with an aftermarket IAC for a month or 2, but it will cause issues eventually. Denso brand I believe is the preferred brand. Before buying a new IAC, I would clean the one on your vehicle first.
Check to see if your vehicle is California or Federal Emissions Compliant. Make sure you have the correct O2 sensor "Denso brand". If everything is right, I would watch the live data of your fuel trims. Could be an exhaust leak before the catalytic converter such as the exhaust manifold.
Do you think a low idle when cold, followed by a gradually increasing idle to say 1500rpm would also be a symptom of needing the IAC replaced. 2000 4runnner
Yes. It could also be a vacuum leak, but I would lean more towards the iac valve. Lesson learnt, Don't buy those generic iac valves for a Toyota. It's a 50/50 chance on if it will work right. The 2000 toyota 4runner in the video had the low idle at startup and then it would slowly climb. The lady bought a cheap iac valve for it and it helped, but didn't fix the idle issue completely. She bought a denso brand next. I replaced the cheap iac with the denso and she hasn't had anymore issues.
@@CarlosRios-mo6vd The nissan has a bleed off valve. The Toyota doesn't. With that said, I've never had to bleed off the Toyota's and never had any issues. I've never seen one "sputter"from a bad iac. Usually the idle will be high or low. Could be a fuel delivery issue or misfire. My nissan frontier makes a sputter sound in gear due to an exhaust leak, but it isn't causing any idle issues. Is the check engine light on? If so, what are the codes?
@@Pr0ph3cy-k5z yes the check engine light has turned on. It wasn't on when it was first acting up but it turned on the next day when I turned the truck on again when I put it on drive. I will try and get the code and try and get back to you. I was thinking it might also be the mass air flow sensor

@@Trustgbendah So you have the P0300 code. First thing that comes to mind is a bad head gasket leak or intake manifold leak. Are you losing coolant? I've never heard of a bad iac causing a misfire on all cylinders. Check your coolant overflow container and radiator. I had a ford f150 that had the P0300 code. No visible leaks anywhere, but I had to add coolant about once every 2 weeks. I could smell it, just never seen it. I was changing the coils and sparkplugs one day and noticed a green gel in each cylinder. Low and behold my upper intake gaskets were leaking. Orange, red, green, blue, white, pink, yellow. Also, if you have a scanner, what is the LTFT long term fuel trim and STFT short term fuel trim after the vehicle has warmed up?
