      I agree the time to buy small caps will be the end of this year. If tax loss sells don't bring new lows then perhaps now is the best time.
      The outperformance to treasuries could be exponential in just 6-18 months.

    The stock market rally started strong but reversed solidly lower, undercutting the lows of the prior few days. It's a reason to be cautious in the very short term. But the pullback could be setting the stage for another solid advance. Tesla (TSLA) continued to climb Thursday, even though the EV giant pared intraday gains. TSLA stock has now more than doubled from its Jan. 6 bear-market low,I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $238k stock portfolio, what’s the best way to take advantage of this bear market?

    I think we are too obsessed about the economy crashing. In the right sense, the economy never crashes. It just undergoes cycles, and almost always recovers. So I really don't care what the predictions are. I just want to grow my portfolio. I read that people are pulling in massive profits despite the downturn. Any tips on how they do it?

    • @KarlyNoorda

      I think it's the professionals and those who use their services that are really pulling in the big money right now. There are really advisors that can help you achieve very consistent growth. I have a friend who pulled in more than $194k profit within three months. So you just have to make some research and get one who fits your fin-goal.

      The market will always recover. The goal is to find quality stocks with long term potential. It's hard for the average Joe to do this, because it involves following a lot of industry news, following up with earnings, etc. It's easier to invest through an advisor who knows how stuff works, and make rocket returns.

    • @AveryFossen
      @AveryFossen 9 місяців тому

      Investing in quality stocks with long-term potential is a good strategy, but it can be challenging for the average person to do this on their own. Keeping up with industry news and earnings can be time-consuming and difficult. That's why it's easier to work with an advisor who can help you make informed decisions and potentially achieve high returns.

    If you are properly prepared and knowledgeable, every crash/collapse/inflation or recession gives an equal market opportunity. I've seen folks amass up to $800,000 throughout crises and even do it with ease in a terrible economy. Without a doubt, someone has become enormously wealthy as a result of the crash.

    It is always good to have a financial plan. I work with a portfolio manager and fixed income planner in the USA. The fixed income portion of your portfolio won’t simply serve as a buffer to the volatility of the equity portion but will provide legitimate income.

      This is very true! A lot of people downplay the role of a financial planner until burnt by their mistakes. After my last job layoff, I had to stay afloat, hence researched for licensed fiduciary advisors. Thankfully, I came across someone of practical knowledge and experience. My reserve fund of $225k has yielded nearly $1.3 million after subsequent investments so far.

There seems to be more negative portfolios this 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. Bonds are return free risk. They are outright promising you that you will have negative real return. They're not interesting; they haven't been for 20 years. I'd much rather own gold or silver as a boring, safe asset. At least real return is a possibility.

      No one is promising negative real returns. You are inferring it because ‘hyperinflation will destroy the world’. The only promise is the yield at the time you buy a bond and if you think inflation stays above 5% you don’t understand the macro environment

There are numerous ways to look at recessions and depressions, we cannot always expect to make large returns, and taking chances is better than doing nothing. IBMs allocation towards fixed income makes sense. It would be interesting if you could cover Green Finance and how there is a global effort to create taxonomies and reporting for ESG goals (eg China and EU are working on comparable taxonomies). Within the "new" green economy credits and liquidity will be allocated towards companies, which meet their standardized climate transition goals... And I bet the IBM has already issued SOFR linked Green Bonds. This statement is neither for or against ESG- i am just rather stating a development that has been in the making for a while.

    If Mike is accurate that the largest companies in the S&P are going up much more than the median company in the index due to passive strategies receiving net flows, then why would a year like 2022 happen where the top 7 largest companies (on average) underperformed the index? Given those same dynamics existed in 2022 it seems to me the argument loses validity.

    • @cbeezy307
      @cbeezy307 9 місяців тому +1

      In other appearances Mike has talked about how this indexation thesis has changed the way the market works, from fundamentally driven to flows driven. In 2022 net flows into stock turned negative. In that case the “super simple algorithm” of indexing was told to sell all holdings and many of the largest holding holdings were sold most aggressively.
      Mike has used the analogy of a car driving up hill with no brakes. It doesn’t matter until the car crests the hill and begins to careen out of control, as market flows turn negative

    • @georgeokello8620
      @georgeokello8620 9 місяців тому

      In 2022, the popular strategy been implemented was shifting portfolio allocations to momentum value driven stocks as a reaction to slowdowns in employment sectors which was huge especially in August 2022.
      Passive strategies for the most part are a function of 401K employment contributions going to target date funds by default. Because of that structure, it wasn’t a shock that most corporates especially with the likes of Facebook, Amazon and co placed hiring freezes to even releasing employees by the thousands and you see slow down in flows. Even the mid size companies by spring and summer of 2022 got hit very hard and we aren’t even including the future 2023 projection of high interest rates. Mike Green is very on point with this especially at the point that markets are not a feature of information content; they are a feature of flows.

    Fyi - Tech companies like Google do not provide options to employees but the actual shares of the company with typically a 4 years vesting plan (every year 25% of the stocks are released to the employee, say you get 100 shares at the start of your employment, 25 shares will be released to the employee after one year). The options thing Mike refers to is a thing of the past, not true for most FANG type business.

    I stumbled upon you after watching various channels. In listening to you both, I was intrigued.
    Then you cut the interview and channel attention to joining and subscription? Your channel is your choice.
    If joining your community offers so much value, why monetize an interview? Should this be a reflection of value in your channel.
    After 10 minutes, I followed your channel, and upon the interview, I subscribed.
    Best of luck on your channel, but not for me. Great interview prior to that choice.
    Just an opinion...

    Been sitting in TLT and miners for two years accounting for 35% of my account. Needless to say, it has been a rough time period for my brokerage account. Still hanging in there and don’t plan to sell but the account is down 20% and barely above the million mark it took me so long the break. Been holding 150k in cash waiting for our “crash” to happen. When it does roll over I plan to make purchases in tech.

    I do not get the reason to buy bonds at all. Interest on bonds is not even capital gains, it is taxed as regular income. And after government takes half of your income from it, what is left is less than inflation rate. Buing bonds is like you agree to lose your money guaranteed…

    Pensions aren’t a new thing. This move by IBM is just a move back, most major employers in this country have been offering pensions for literally 100+ years, the shift to 401K plans didn’t happen until the late 1980s. Given market dynamics, it makes sense that we see the resurgence of pensions

    I believe most tech companies issue RSUs. This doesn't generate the cashflow options do since they don't get bought.
    Also given the decline in the value of most tech companies many people I know sell RSUs and ESPP as soon as they vest, so that they can cut the bleeding, so that new issuance to employees has to be absorbed by the market.

    Money went into equities because bonds were so low for so long. If your retirement account was invested in bonds, for the last 15 years you were losing money to the stock indexes. Hold bonds higher and retirement savings will move to bonds. And there’s a lot of money in retirement accounts.

Transactions ARE Information so that doesn't make any sense to me. Everything in the universe has physical matter, and all physical matter has information attached to it or describing that physical matter. Mike suggests passive 60/40 funds are not taking advantage of the dip in bonds, but AFAIK target date funds rebalance daily. This means in order to maintain that balance in the face of the crash we have seen in bonds, that it is buying the hell out of some bonds. I am not sure why this wasn’t brought up.

    The Fed has it all covered. Only a matter of time until we see rate cuts and the resumption of QE. If equities fall significantly they’ll start buying ETF’s. Balance sheet is at 8trillion. Does it really matter if it goes to 12trillion or 16trillion?? They’ll conveniently raise their target level for inflation and everything will be ok 😂

    On the flipside isn't guaranteeing returns increasing the risk of the firm to financial cycles and making the firm much more riskier during a business downturn when the firm makes a loss ?also lots of ethical issues involved as the payout of employees will be lower when the interest rates are low and as we have seen in the last 15 years a lot of times the interest rates are indeed being gamed for the benefit of few big players.

      @@greg.ocallaghan Value isn't part of the equation. It's the manipulation that's the problem. Sure, only share half the story, and leave the rest behind a paywall, but let folks know they're only getting half the story before they waste their time only listening to half the story. Of course, Jeff, or anyone, that uses this ploy won't do that, because it defeats the purpose; manipulation. We've now run full circle.
