That’s what I do too. I’m really sensitive to fabric textures, so if I find a shirt at the thrift store I really like I’ll fabric dye it and add my own detail work. Sometimes it’s lace, fur or embroidery if I’m feeling ambitious enough. Sure, it takes a bit of time, but I think it’s worth the effort.
I work in a restaurant that allows us to wear whatever we like as long as it is work appropriate and relatively modest. It's such a blessing. I have worked in so many places where I had to wear something that made me feel like I wasn't myself. For some people clothes are just coverings, but for me personally, it's an extention of who I am, and not wearing what I like makes me feel super uncomfortable.

I love this - you totally slay corporate goth but your advice to show up for yourself is universal; I'm nearly 40 and more punk aesthetic but can easily see how pieces like this and thrifting for others (as well as pieces in my own wardrobe) can help me be my authentic self in a corporate setting ❤
i have that pleated uniqlo long skirt, or at least a variant of it with a sheer pleated layer over a slip skirt, and it is SO COMFY. elastic waist, fits and hangs like a dream, and their clothes wear incredibly well and always look polished. i’ve never had to iron anything from them, even my linen pieces, the most i do is hang them in the bathroom while i’m having a shower and maybe smooth out the fibres with a hair dryer. functional AND cute i’ve been looking at those exact lovely ghosts pants with the embroidery, so good to know they’re a solid brand!!

Honestly? Corporate Goth to me is the easiest aesthetic to create for myself, because it goes well with my own personal aesthetic and is also super available where I live. I also quite like how it looks. It's simple but not boring, it's polished, but doesn't look too stiff to me. It's a sweet spot in my world of aesthetics. But I have to be absolutely honest that I am just learning the correct terms for the different aesthetics being available nowadays. I never really cared about terms before, but they make online searching so much more easy. Would you mind making a video about lounge wear or athleasure (workout gear) that's still looking alt/goth which you could also rock outside (while not looking frumpy or sloppy at all)? Because I am looking for such pieces atm. If you already got one, I'm sorry, I'm very new to your channel. Finding channels like yours seems to be way more hard nowadays than it was about like 10 or 15 years ago. And I am really all in for this type of inspo. I just want to look at fashion based videos I can actually relate to (and don't have to translate everything to my personal aesthetic).

Of course budget is always a factor as well- American Eagle has really cute black tennis/workout skirts super cute and comfy not, very put together. Ross almost always has comfy cute black biker shorts & sports bras & crop tops, then there’s Lululemon & skims products available. My best friend really got me with the American Eagle lol- I hadn’t been near one since she dragged me there in high school 😹

I do work nights though, which means I don't have a direct supervisor on sight during my shift so I try to have fun with my jewelry/ I have these super cool sword earrings that I purchased recently and I love them!

Agree with all these pointers. I’m goth and autistic, so for me, it’s also about being comfortable. I’m also plus size and hate how pants emphasize my bloated stomach due to ovary cysts. My daily “uniform” is a black high waisted long denim skirt (I hate pressure on my lower abdomen due to the pcos). I also have short legs, so the high waisted long line look makes my long torso shorter while elongating the legs. The stiffness of the denim keeps things streamlined. Tops are typically black turtle necks/v with lantern or flared sleeves. IMO, it’s the little details you mentioned that change it from average to goth. This can easily be done with jewelry, bags hats exc. I personally am drawn to roses, skulls and fantasy creatures. Overall, I think this was well placed advice for being yourself in a work environment. I’ve tried dressing “normal” at a job and I’ve found I felt emotionally drained and uncomfortable. As long as your look is clean, simple and not overstated you’ll do fine. It’s when people want to go the full trad/victorian look that’s best kept for the weekend clubs is when it becomes a real problem. Trust me, I’ve been there.😅 Love your content and thanks for sharing.❤
