Losi Mini-B Brushed vs Brushless (6000kv Dynamite Install and Test)
Вставка

- This was interesting!
One of our two Losi buggies fried the stock, brushed motor. Instead of just throwing a new motor at it, I decided to go brushless. Hoped to gain a little more speed and MUCH more reliability.
I went with the Dynamite 6000kv ESC+motor in 1 unit: amzn.to/3CmfG84
Plus the ProBoat receiver that will bind with the stock controller: amzn.to/3AiKogJ
And finally, for good measure, I added the Losi aluminum servo horn: amzn.to/3AszhC3
Overall, the results are very surprising! Watch along to see the difference!

I really appreciate videos where people use a track and timing system to test modifications. Great work, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely agree. Especially for buggies.
Cool install and awesome run
Thank you!
Thanks for the video my friend, worth the watch 🏎💨
Great! Glad it was helpful!
That is great thanks these are getting popular on the big track . Want to spice mine up now.
Nice! Sounds like fun!
Fantastic comparison. Shows so clearly it’s not all about speeeeeeeeed
That is right! Need to have control!
That track looks fun.
It was!
Great results for the first time out. I know you'll get it dialed in. The on board camera made it sound like it had a supercharger. : )
Ha! Yes - the on-board sound is fun!
Thanks Rick!
Awesome video! I still love my brushless mini b but maybe Ill get another brushed one for the track.
I think it is all just about how you use it, and the size of the space. My track is on the smaller side, so exaggerates this issue.
Nice run! I got out of the hobby in 2003 during the startup of brushless and lithium. Blew my mind you could get both in a micro for a measly couple hundred. I've run carpet a handful of times with my 2.0 Brushless that has a jump similar to that first one. Did my usual of taking it sharp on the inside, but found if I swing it wide and give it the sauce, it would easily clear the jump. Saved me a couple tenths vs. hitting the jump short and throttling over it. One guy was running Pro Line Hole Shots on his Associated mini, he said just enough slide to not go rolling but way more grip than a standard pin. I think I'll be getting a set of those for my next track day. Thanks for the vid!
Awesome! Glad you are back in it!
The tech has come a long way - enjoy!
Oh shit! Someone landed the double!
Good job 👌💥💯
Thanks!
Sooo cool. I have the mini t 2.0 brushed. Might tinker with it!
You can add a lot of power, that is for sure.
@@RoadsideRC I just put in a 25 amp 7200kv brushless. Seems wicked. Will test soon!
Really nice video and beautiful track …. Which motors are out there besides the Dynamite and which one do you recommend …last question what battery where you running
There is a castle setup that also works. Either can work fine.
I was running the stock batteries, but have also run some Ovonic 850mah: amzn.to/3adxpVO
They have carpet tires now for the mini-b. Seems like you didn’t have good traction. Would love to see you do this with the high traction carpet tires. 👍🏽
I just might!
Thanks!
looks good mate going well
*left a like👍Au👍fully watched*
Thank you Billy!
I was wondering about a servo upgrade, I've done the "you tube" fix with a zip tie, I had no idea they had that losi had that little servo horn! It has to be noticeable, maybe I dont need to upgrade the servo after all
Mine has worked great just with the horn change!
Hey great video, but what is the red square with the triangle flashing light? Does that come with the receiver or motor? I'm confused
That is a transponder. It is for timing at the track. It is purchased separately.
Looks like you need a bigger spur or smaller pinion in that brushless set up. The motor is going to turn more RPMs to make up for the shorter gearing anyway.. Give that trans some leverage!
Yes!
Since this video, I stepped down 2-3 teeth on the pinion. It helped a lot...but might still use more. Just waaay too high of KV for the track we are at.
I know old video , I would of tuned the throttle dual rate so it was just fast enough to clear the double , that way you could be more consistent with that jump ,that would of been plenty for the rest of the track .
I was using the factory controller.
@@RoadsideRC Factory controller has dual rate for both steering and throttle. Check page 5 in the manual.
I know that I'm late on this but I see everybody talkin about the brushless system the brush system and your whole setup. That is all well appreciate it also you have an extra hop up part that you're not talkin about I have one in my mini b is the brass weight kit. I got mine from sparetime Hobbies where did you get yours from I also put 40 weight oil in the front 35 wait in the rear to slow the suspension down since running on black carpet I also have the camber block the pivot block in the steering rack all-aluminum losi I'm running gold springs for the front losi mini b and red on the rear losi mini t. Hackfabrc carbon shock Towers, MIP top shaft slipper and cvd's. And last but not least and ecopower 827 metal gear servo.
Sounds like a good setup!
I actually do not run any additional weight on the chassis.
I don't know about that back straightaway!
That is a nice track. For 16th scale the gap on the BIG jump is too far tho. Still wish I had a track that nice where I live
Yes! So do I.. this track is now closed as well.
@@RoadsideRC that's a shame that track closed. Watched your vid many times, I'm getting into Mini-B racing in my area and trying to decide brushless or brushed. I think because I'm new, I'm am going brushed, but the roller pro kit because it already has a lot of the upgrades and I plan to go brushless eventually.
I got my mini b in March and I'm going with the dynamite brushless and see what i get don't know how fast it will go but I'll find out 😊
Good luck!
Dude awesome indoor track! Where’s that at?
This is in Nashville, TN
@@RoadsideRC were at in Nashville

😉👍💯
Thank you!
😎
Thank you!
I seen a Losi mini b brushless online trying to think if I want to get two of them or just one of them
They are fun vehicle if you have the right place to drive them!
You need a lower stiffer suspension for carpet and carpet tires.
I agree - but that was not the point of this video.
Hey there Roadside RC! I'm currently getting the same setup (Dynamite brushless motor and the same receiver) do I need to purchase anything else? lmk
Nope! That is all you need to get it running.
@@RoadsideRC Thanks man!
I’ve had a really bad time trying to get the new receiver to bind, any tips?
Make sure the throttle trim is set to zero.
It did take me a few tries.
@@RoadsideRC how do I put the transmitter into bind mode? And when I retry binding, do I need to disconnect the battery each time? Sorry, this is my first rc that I’ve upgraded
Where is this place located it looks so cool
Music City RC - Nashville, TN. You can find them on Google and Facebook.
What pinion are you running in the brushless? Sorry if I missed it in the video
In this video, still running the stock.
After this,, I went down 2 teeth.
@@RoadsideRC do you like the lower pinion better?
I'd prefer more bottom punch as well. Plus the dual rate remote should help keep it under control on the top end
@@vinceruland9236 Yes - it gives more control.
@@RoadsideRC thanks sir. I appreciate the feedback
Will this same set up work on the Mini T 2.0?
Yes - 100%
Maybe carpet tires would help?
They would help both vehicles for sure.
what's the best transmitter/radio to use with the mini-b?
Depends on how spendy you want to get.
My go-to for a quality radio is usually the Futaba 4PM: amzn.to/3W2P9Wo
@@RoadsideRC does the included receiver fit the mini-b chassis?
Are you using xt60s on your mini b?
Yep! They work great.
Overkill for the amps it pulls.
did you happen to put pro roller shocks on this car, and then get rid of it?
Yes I did!
@@RoadsideRCpretty sure your mini t landed in Omaha Nebraska!
@@jacobdeboer1715 Wow! That went a long way!!!
sent you a reddit message about the car, just a quick question.
@@RoadsideRC
What size pinion and spur are you running?
In this video, it was the stock.
Since then, I have actually dropped the pinion 2-3 teeth.
will the stock wheeles and tires work on carpet
They do, but are not as good as the Proline tires.
What track is this … very nice
It is Music City RC, Nashville, TN
Is that normal that the brushless couldn't get up the hill?
It is too high of a kv, so doesn't have the torque. When running at normal speed, it is fine.
I feel like you could’ve def driven the brushless a little better. It’s all about throttle control .. if you’re going balls out the whole time with that motor setup of course you’re going to wreck and what not.
That was actually the point if you listen at the end. The brushless just didn't have any low speed control. It would either cog...or blast off.
After this video, I reduced the pinion 2 teeth and it helped a lot.
Do you think the extra torque coming out of the corners makes the brushed faster on the track?
Honestly, I think that the brushless system was just too powerful, and uncontrolled. It felt much like an on/off switch with the power. No modulation.
@@RoadsideRC Kinda like the old cars without variable throttle.
Can anyone land the double?
Yes- just not predictable.
you can reduce dual rate, that way you have punch and more control, still great video
That would help for sure, but instead I went down around 2-3 teeth in the pinion - which made a huge difference!
that thing should fly then huh 🤔
The speed is crazy - just not controllable for racing.
I went to the hobby store over binding shit! I still didn't get it
It was a pain, for sure!
