This is so fundamental... I figured why my tracks sounded kind of muddy or lacky of punchiness, started to search why; some person told me it wasn't related to the EQ, but to this, which I had found by investigating. So now I'm lacking of mids. I do love doing tranceish sounds, which are usually very wide and stereo, and now I see what I was doing "wrong". I was putting too much stuff in the sides, the kick was only in the mid with a bass and that didn't sound glued.
OMG. The difference is very obvious... I have trouble wrapping my mind around this... But I need to input this in my mixes ! THNX! That was the best explanation of Mid-Side that I have come across and at some point I may well do one of your courses but it's just after Christmas, which reminds me....Happy New Year Mix Elite Peeps! Have a good one! ;D
I love this this is sure-fire one of the reasons my tracks weren't going anywhere as much as I tried Also I did not know the Stereo Shaper could output the inverted signal, that's so fucking useful
one thing i would add though for the people reading is that these corrections are being done in Solo mostly to show how midside affects audio, however in your production always try and do processing while the mix is playing so you do changes according to the context of the mix not to make the solo audio sound better, since it might not fit with your mix.
No f way, just today I thought about Mid/Side Eq in Stock FL becaue, I know about it, but I was to lazy to download something, and then your Video is popping up, thats so dope
Please i have a suggestion. I would love to have a detailed video on how to create hip hop / 808 drums. I mean how to use equalizers on the drums , to have a clean sound, and professional. ✌😊 thank you
😂😂😂.. I swear everytime I try using stereo shaper to try to understand it and get familiar with it.. in a couple of minutes I just replace it with d stereo enhancer, or a 3rd party stereo imager.. now I know I'm not alone 😅
First, make sure everything is routed to a mixer track. If you have multiple things routed to the same mixer track, it will be exported on the same stem. Then when exporting, make sure “Split mixer tracks” is selected.
This video has changed my life. Lol, seriously tho thank you for this! buy far the most useful knowledge on mixing. You made mid/side eq easy to understand. The before and after of my tracks...wow tks again.

@@exeza By the way, you can also mid/side EQ your synths or instruments too, as well, applying effects to each. For example, it's commonly used to put reverb on the sides instead of in the mid, while other effects are used to be used with the mids and not with the sides. Regarding EQ, you will like to have the low end of frequencies parts in the mid, and the high end of them in the sides. So bass need to be put in the mids regarding the stereo field. Snares too, even thoug they are crispy or more into the 500 Hz domain, they remain at the mids. It's also related to how punchier you want your mix. If the snare or kick is in the sides kind like you won't hear them as much and impactful if they're in the sides. Yet the snare can be in both; the body of the snare in the mid, the crispier sound if it at the sides.
I've tried this technique before a long time ago, used to do it for years. You'd be better off getting Fab Filter Pro Q 3 for this honestly. Way better results.
Unfortunately, no. That's not how you'd go about it anyways. In case you want to use Mid-Side processing by having the Mid of the sound in one mixer track and the Side in another, there is a way to do so. What you'd do in this case is route the mixer track containing the sound(s) to which you want to apply Mid-Side processing to two other mixer tracks. In both of them open the Fruity Stereo Shaper. Choose the preset Mid in the mixer track with the Mids, and choose the preset aSide in the other one. Then, you can process the Mids and Sides separately in the mixer. Although, I'd always recommend Patcher for parallel processing like this. But, you do you.
I hope somebody reads that but if i use the side splitter the sides sounds mono. I have a left and right vocal channel both panned and these go in a srcond channel with the splitter on it .
instead of making a sound stereo, and then using mid-side to make a the bass mono again, I make a mono sound, do a band-split, and then add stereo effect only on the higher frequencies. No need for mid-side, and now my vector scopes don't flip 90 degrees, and don't draw circles. it's just upright and wiggly, like god intended.

mid-side is another term for sum-difference which is used in lots of stuff. What's in common, and what's not in common.

Going To Apply This Using Patcher.

please make a video on exporting stems in most efficient way, exporting stems on FL is very time consuming
First, make sure everything is routed to a mixer track. If you have multiple things routed to the same mixer track, it will be exported on the same stem.

Where should I put MID/SIDE EQ in a chain? I mean before or after common EQ, Reverb etc.
in the master, under everything you have.

Could you achieve this by sending your bus to 2 tracks and making one mono and one stereo through the mixer? And disconnect the bus from the master

this is awesome but what i dont understand is how patcher/stereo shaper is able to tell which parametric EQ 2 is mid and whichone is side
Check the Patcher Tutorial on this channel! We make a separate chain for the side and mid signal
