- Today we're getting together as Dune fans to watch the 1984 David Lynch movie! This movie is one of the biggest sci-fi flops in history, but the recent adaptions have found huge success, why? Well today we're taking some Spice and catching a ride on a sandworm to find out why this acid trip of a movie got it's reputation.
CONTENT WARNING:
DUNE contains some blood and generally gross moments. There's a character with cyst-type bumps on his face.

DUNE - 1984
In the year 10191, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies, the Harkonnens. However, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), Leto's son, to lead the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert's epic novel.

Watch The Muppets ( 2011)
May I recommend norm of the north? It's a terrible movie featuring the coca cola bear.
jurassic park 1993. (its a masterpiece)
Literally 1984
Bro imagine 1985
Fr imagine 1985
1985 sucked 1984 is peak.
@@LDB44 imagine 1986
But what if 1985
What if Dune was called "Dude" and it was about a random guy in the sand.
So star wars basically?
The music still is just the loud yelling of women.
"HIIYAAAAAAAIIIAAAAAAAAAAHHHH"
that would be way better then the actual movie
I hate sand, its rough and course and it gets everywhere

I will never forget that dune bucket...
That bucket has seen things 👀
Neither will I 😉
😂
i'm stuck help
I can only picture what that bucket has been through.
same here 😊
The thing I love most about this movie is the fact that Sir Patrick Stewart has ZERO memory of being in it, and he wasn’t supposed to be in it at all. He literally showed up, did the movie despite not being cast, left, and completely forgot he did it.
Wrong. There are multiple interviews of him talking the behind the scenes of the movie just here on yt...
@@alessandrobaggi6129 dude, I literally saw him do an interview where he said that he completely forgot until YEARS later when a Dune fan said he liked him in the movie.
Whole thing feels like a fever dream
I remember an interview he did where he was talking about meeting Sting for the first time on set for the film & making small talk, not knowing Sting was a famous musician that had a major part in the film.
99 likes?let me fix that...DONE!
Keep in mind, Dune is basically the story of a war over drugs in space
Dune is just the story of Pablo Escobar's rise to power with the help from the US government.
No, no SPICES 😊
Well, drugs & oil. It's not really subtle that Arrakis is basically the Middle East IN SPACE!
Is dune just a science fiction version of the opium wars? Lol.
It's a retelling of T. E. Lawrence's adventures, aka Lawrence of Arabia. It's about the middle east and oil, only repeated a few thousand years in the future.
"Ahh yes, the contraption" Real words
Ahh yes, the doohickey
They keep saying "Worm Sign" and all I can think about is the Dune reference in SpongeBob when Sandy says "Worm Sign" and its a small wooden sign that says "Worm"
It's not home to just any worms either. It's the ALASKAN BULLWORMS
I'm glad to see that the baby head in a microwave is a recurring character.
He lives alongside the Spanish Bible Clock
I love how everyone else is on the couch and Jude’s just on a lawn chair😂

watch garfield 2 with thomas. I need to see his reaction to all of the "realistic" British accents
they need to watch the star wars sequels
The opening music is like, why is it so intense?!
yeah what is the music called?
Dune 1984 soundtrack by Toto. There is a version of the opening out there without the narration, I know it
Worms Armageddon if it was a movie.
hey :(
I FORGOT ABOUT THAT GAME
I love the rectangle shields
They’re cool because of how they were made but the result is super janky
For some reason, I thought those were hotboxes or CGI or something. I know nothing about dune.
ROBLOX!

Fun fact: the actor who plays the 1984 Paul is Riley's dad from Disney Pixar movie, *Inside Out* ! 😁
He’s also the dad from Fallout
@@liamnigenda2849 Never seen Fallout but that's awesome! 👌
@@gerardblandina9844 Also found out he was a main villain in the Flintstones 1994 movie
He is Kyle MacLachlan who would appear in Lynch's next film after this, Blue Velvet, and play the main character of his show Twin Peaks.
And Inside Out 2 came out the same weekend as this video, what a way to celebrate Kyle Machlachlan
Honestly really loved this vibe of y’all critiquing something you’re so passionate about. Of course I like the regular commentary on the dumb stuff, but I would enjoy more of this from time to time as well!

The lightning is actually from the books. As the worms approach the surface, they generate a huge amount of static electricity that discharges as bolts of lightning.
it seems that Captain Picard spent too much time on the holodeck playing out old Earth novels.

Things have been kinda rough for me lately so I definitely needed this
I don’t even like or care about Dune but you guys doing anything always makes me feel better so thanks
I like it when David Lynch said it’s “Lynching time” and then he made Eraserhead
A real classic. Got really pissed off at how handsome Patrick Stewart's Gurney Halleck was in this. The book said he was ugly!
I guess they added sound weapons too but handsome Gurney was too far.
Asking again for you guys to review the animated trainwreck known as “America: the Motion Picture” for July 4th this year. It features George Washington dual-wielding chainsaws and Benedict Arnold as a werewolf!
Produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, best known for Clone High and absolutely nothing else ever.
wait I need that in my life
Is that an actual thing?
Freaky Sandworm for Freaky Friday in Freaky June
what about Freaky 3:34 PM on a Freaky Wednesday
Dune, this is literally 1984.
Fun fact: I watched the first new dune movie and my dad had to explain everything that was happening at every point in the movie because none of it was properly explained or built up to.
I watched the first few minutes of the movie a while ago, and i gotta be honest gamers: i was bored out of my gord. The new ones were genuinely fantastic
Also; it’s great to see Lauren and Thomas again!!
I hope there are more movies you are nerdy about that you will also cover, because what you've done with this was absolutely adorable.
Wow what a great movie!
(flashbacks to the popcorn bucket)
Melange, or Spice, is...the closest comparison I can think of is Beeswax? Like the Sandworms literally secrete it from their bodies as a byproduct.
Y'all really are the most random reaction channel and I love it
I like the 84 version, better then watching the creepy new version. And im an 80s fan.
What do you expect it's the 1980s, didn't have fancy computer graphics back then or didn't have to hold your hand and explain everything to you. I despise modern movies !
Yeah but, the new movie didn't hold your hand either, I have heard people that are still confused what's going on with the Dune world.
I do enjoy and appreciate the strong 1980s charm though, even if overall I prefer the new Dune movies.
no way
This can’t be happening

Love yer videos, microwave people! Keep microwaving and cooking such good content, it makes me laugh
Bro the thumbnail is amazing 😂 great video!
i love how the baby's head in the microwave is STILL HERE.
My head canon is that this is just what happened in Arizona in between the heat stroke
Also also, the box scene in this film terrified me when I first watched this. The hand burning effect was actually convincing.
I really liked this different kind of video! It makes me want to check out the new Dune movies sometime.
why Thomas and Lauren look so similar
12:37 Me when I'm hungry and randomly pass a pink and orange fast food breakfast restaurant:
Shout out to that one Arthur game where you played as Buster having a dream about food
I remember playing them Arthur games all the time.

Good video. I liked you guys nerding out very good
1:47 the ants on the living room tv desk after seeing my dad bring a xbox 360 (or a xbox one s witch i have):
3:20 I never thought I'd see someone make a pun like this in my life. This has got to be THE most vague reference in the world and I'm probably one of if not the only person to actually get this and laugh.
Good job. **applause**
As a fellow Chattanooga resident, it does look like one of our cabin houses
The random thing I appreciate about Microwave Society is whenever they quote songs or music by singing it Acapella impromptu, they are usually on the song’s set key or extremely close. It’s scary
Bro this got me DYING!!! Love these nerds
Easily my favorite mws video
Wow British man, your singing voice is so beautiful 😍
4:46 Hello Patrick Stewart’s double.
22:41 I love how Jude and Bren are just having another conversation in the background
Hey, you guys should watch Gordi.
It's a funny movie with a talking pig who says by to his father like a bored teenager as he's driven to the slaughter.
Lauren would love it, she has the same energy as someone I know who also loved the movie :D
Amazing vid! i like that one
The beeps are back on the couch less go!❤
8:10 The sentence "Why did she [slime SFX]?" will never stop being funny to me.
You guys should make more videos like this.

Lauren whipping out the Silent Planet tech deck was such a flex
People will try and say that this is objectively better than the Villeneuve duology.
No need to try. Lynch's is just better, period. 😎🤟
@@alessandrobaggi6129 No it is not lmao
12:35 is a templet from the book”the toad and the frog”
The Harkonnens were my favorite part of this movie because of how goofy they were.
Nice vid.
Ironically I was looking for clips from DUNE and I stumbled across this.😅
my favorite is still "Frank Herbert's Dune"... The 2000 Mini-Series that was on SciFi back in the day but nobody remembers it!
Ironic that the guy at 9:25 sounds like willy wonka
Lauren where in the world did you get a Silent Planet Tech Deck that is incredible
The big issue is that Lynch filmed like, six hours of movie, but then had to cut it to 137 minutes, so it sucks. Hope someday they go back and release a directors cut of Lynchs original vision.
Honestly the fanmade 4 hour cut with all the deleted scenes is way better.
Is it just me or do I feel like that they would do a great review on alpha and Omega
Excited she mentions Thornhill but says the album is called “the dark sun” but the album is actually called “the dark pool”
Anyways everyone go listen to The Dark Pool by Thornhill
Lauren here, oml im so embarrassed i dont know why i said the dark sun 😭
I actually like this version better than the new ones, and I will die on this hill. I hate Chalamet's portrayal of Paul, Zendaya was there bc of spiderman. I will fight about this movie in a discord call if i have to
👍👍👍
Yall should do supergirl, an 80s movie that looks like its stuck in the 70s and is also somehow awful even if the premise is batshit crazy. Or you could watch westworld?
4:40 They had to draw those cubes by hand for every single frame because David Lynch wanted it to look like how computer effects looked back then, but they couldn't actually combine the frames and the effects. It took them something like 9 months.
3:54 my ducal signet would be the entire bee movie script
You know what was good about 1984. The C4 Corvette finally came out. And AMC was somewhat popular again
5:37 as someone who has visited Chattanooga, YOU COULDN’T GET FURTHER FROM A LOG CABIN
The tbh in the background is crazy
15:30. That's those actual steamed hams that they make in Connecticut or wherever.
I have a movie request you guys should watch the animated Marmaduke it s really "Great move"
Petition for MWS to react to the live action inspector Gadget movies
While I was watching the movie clips they played I wondered why the set and costumes seemed familiar...
It's like the 4th doctor which was made in in the late 70s and early 80s. To be even MORE specific, It reminds me of the Tesh in The Face of Evil(1977), The Horns of Nimon(1979), the space ship in the Key to Time special, Part 2, and part 6 the Armageddon Factor. I love over explaining things.
Would love to see you guys watch monster in Paris

One day my Dad was like "Let's watch Dune" and me and my mom were like "Why?" and then he started the movie and the entire time I was like "What the hell is going on?" And then was actively trying not to fall asleep by the 90 minute point and then it just stopped and I was like "Oh, it's over?"
Me and my mom were clearly confused and after a long awkward pause my Dad was like "The books are better"
how can you dislike this movie
