I swear Eight is canonically an android in this one. The way he talks sounds like an AI (yeah I know it's his normal voice, it doesn't matter), the fact he knows everything, and he never takes his helmet off. He's a goddamn robot, it's gonna be revealed in a few episodes.
eight would say "Ermm actually an android is a robot that mimics the skin and behaviour of a human. So, following the definition, i am not an android."
I'm pretty sure Eight never ran out of oxygen. When everyone else was on two or three bars he still had full oxygen. AT least the first time. It showed him low later on.
If you ever continue to add to this for some reason, adding some form of long distance communication like colour coded lights or laser pointers to signal to other crew members could help with the immersion and role play. Plus, if you ever go to a planet with unknown hostiles, seeing distant lights start flashing red then go out would be horrifying
Also some more ideas I’ll dump here if anyone ends up seeing this: - portable oxygen tanks that members carry down for expeditions (could break) - infrared visor setting (could be interesting if you ever need to search for organic life - a rover for better land travel - different kinds of medical equipment instead of stims, making assessing certain injuries tense and more interesting (could have a tablet that assesses a crew members health on top of this) - guns on the ship. Please. Also, I feel like reading into a game called Barotrauma would give you a lot more ideas to apply to this mod/series if you ever do more with it, as it’s got a lot of the kinds of stuff you could try and implement
something about the end screen. the ship leaving the system, seeing our home slowly get smaller and smaller, coupled with the music....it just gives me this sense of loss. of longing. of being homesick. the perfect feeling for leaving a homeworld we can never return to.
Yeah Reprise was perfect for that. I can tell Rat had developed Stage 4 Outer Wilds (stage one: playing the game; stage two: playing the dlc; stage three: telling everyone to play the game; stage four: being inspired by the game to make similar projects)
Ss soon as I saw the ship my brain went "THIS is the Freebird, a massive, fully functional and habitable airship that I added to Minecraft just so I could lead an entire server wide expedition... And trap everyone in the process."
*me, half in tears by the ending, then realizing something:* "WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY FIRST EPISODE? THERES MORE?! WHERE IS IT? WHERE ARE YOU STASHING IT RAT?!?!"
@@jamesboardman23i mean i guess this could be coupled with some other mods. like i thought he was gonna use cubic chunks and distant horizons. idk if or how that could improve any of this, but maybe
I'd love for this is to be an occasional series, like a mission exploring a new planet every time you add a new feature, maybe we even find a planet that seems habitable but then you find remnants of previous expeditions before discovering why it isn't habitable.

You HAVE to expand this idea, is simply astonishing, if you add mobs and many more features to each planet it would completely be one of the best mods recently
I don't think I've ever had my expectations for a youtube video from a channel I'd never heard of surpassed this far. Just looking at the title and thumbnail, I assumed you'd code some planets that you could just fly between, and that'd be it. And that in and of itself would have been a cool video. But you went so much further: a new planet, a huge starship, and most importantly an incredible narrative. I'm absolutely speechless.
It's always so fun seeing people's reactions to Rat's stuff when they've never seen any of it before! Yeah, he does stuff like this a lot tbh (though this was probably one of the most ambitious things he's done so far)
I really like how many of the Vale people helped with this. I love creative communities like this that help each other soar. Also this is absolutely gorgeous. Chef's kiss
I like how everyone was acting serious and all that and then one second later they break character like "Why is Rat driving the ship like a F1 driver" and being genuinely amazed to even act at all
The fact this this is Minecraft is insane. I'm not sure if the engine used in this video is available to the public, but when it is mods will go *crazy.*

It can keep getting better, with a good community to help you along the way, and a will to keep learning and growing, this can be something that can take the Minecraft Community by storm! Keep up the incredible work, and always, keep pushing the limits, until there is no opposition in your way! - Nova
bro this has so much potential as a unique exploration survival experience inside minecraft, imagine traveling to different planets and having different crafts with their unique resources, building different and unique ships, tools and equipment craft/upgrade, even maybe a whole 'normal minecraft" experince as a subnautica game where you get traped in water planet and you just need to do stuff until you can escape the planet and it can be at different planets, jesus crist so much potential, i really want to see a part two where this gets even deeper in the gameplay features.
I just thought about something. The VHS starts with a company screen. In that screen, it has a copyright dated 1924. Later in the trailer, Winsweep says, "The ship is a 1000 years old, Rat." If Winsweep isn't making a sarcastic comment, then that means the Content SMP is set in the year of 2924. HOLY S***

This is, without a doubt, the greatest video/mod/minecraft thing ive ever seen so far, ive been playing the game since 2013 and ive seen a lot of great stuff, but this is a whole new level. This brought some new ideas and emotions ive never felt before about space and for those i dont even have the words to describe it, saying that this is great would be very short for the entire thing, but im not sure if words can describe the entire experience, so im just going to say that this is great, but knowing its short for the inmensity of project this is.

@@HikasCorner it's actually a pretty typical solution for singleplayer experiences like that. Focus the world around the player, you encounter less abnormalities from floating points. It also work well for things like relative physics, since you can have consistent physics behavior in ship and then translate the world visually around that. It's when there are physics interactions between two domains that things get more complicated, like with Aeronautics or Valkyrien skies.
quick tip: the sun is actually white, it just looks orange because of the atmoshpere. you should make it so if you are on mercury the sun appears white.
I'm just speechless. This not only encapsules what Minecraft is all about, allowing the players to express themselves trough their worlds and the stories those worlds bear (thing on which the mod expands on btw), but it also is a wonderful way to show the way you see and express in this game, which is just beautiful. And with the story at the end? I personally have an hard time with emotions and being sentimental due to stuff, but i got so attached and emotional to this story in less than an hour that just... idk how to put it into frigging words! I cannot wait for this mod to fully release, It has been such a joy to watch you develop from a Minecraft mod creator to a Minecraft Grandmaster Wizard. You, and the many people that you have already and have yet to work with, are "stellar".
Also, just wanted to say that a communication system would be amazing, unless it SOMEHOW went out when people were stranded... that would be horrible...
Okay but that trailer was genuinely one of the coolest I've seen Edit: I would actually take this over any Netflix show please I beg you just do one season in space
It took me 4 months to finally watch this video. I've now watched it three times in 1 week. I love this so much, and as someone who loves to write, this story is SO COOL and it's given me inspiration to write a story inspired by it! (I don't know that it'll get finished, but it's fun to do) Point is, I just love this so much and I really hope there's more to this story, and I won't be waiting another 4 months to watch it if there is, lol
a way to add exploration to gas giants would be floating gas powered ships that make sort of floating "cities". in the case of this universe they would be more so abandoned, run down but still able to barely function. if you needed to wrap a mission around it maybe you need to scavenge materials from these cities to fix parts of the ship or upgrade it to make it faster. also it might be cool to fly around a strong floorless world looking for ships floating as the fog of the clouds block some of your vision. and it could just be a way to add a little more, because now instead of having to make whole planets you just need to design individual structures that you can put on any gas giant you meet. another mission is maybe you need to take a gas tank and gas engine to, like i said before, make the ship faster (because it would take SO many light years to reach another solar system). maybe taking the engine knocks the city out of balance and it starts to fall into the center of the gas giant and you have to quickly rush back to your ship. just a cool suggestion that might add more spice and flavor to gas giants. (obviously you don't need to add any of this but just an idea cause i think you would love to add exploration to gas giants).
Now this is what I want from a space mod. The actual ability to travel from one planet to another rather than clicking a location on a map and warping there. This is brilliant
I must confess, Outer Wilds has been on my radar since your first space mod video on the second channel, but it wasn't until the ending of this one that I decided to finally play it. Now partway through the DLC, I can see the inspiration very strong here and it makes me super happy to see how well the themes are captured here.
This mod is so incredible and everything about it was so heartfelt. If it ever becomes publically available I think I will loose my mind. Thank you for your time, creativity and beautiful story.
This really has the same feeling as when I’ve decided to major in cosmology 8 years ago. Thanks man! this video really meant a lot to me…this feeling…can’t believe I almost forget it ☄️
@Shaun_Jones No I meant it as a joke. But it would've been amazing to see Kaboodle freak out over Jupiter and it's moon. But not that I'm complaining it's bad. Cuz what we have here is amazing.
This video genuinely shocked me with how beautiful it was, not just in how the mod looks and functions but also in the roleplay and clear care that went into its creation This might just be me being overly sappy, but that final goodbye to the solar system was gorgeous and i was tempted to tear up. Nearly got me with that last bit about staring into the stars, but you didnt. All in all, cannot wait for part two
I feel the exact same way, this video is so beautiful, from the visuals to the audio to the acting, and the story is just *chefs kiss* such a beautiful example of humanity in face of conflict and the vastness of the space in that final shot as they depart from something we in this day and age will never experience is so so hauntingly beautiful
This is almost unrecognizable as minecraft in all the best ways. Not only is this perhaps the most impressive thing I've seen on a technical level, I'm also invested in the story. Rat keeps outdoing himself.
Ichor is diff from oil. And oil actually isn't made from purely organic life. Infact a lot of earths oil isn't at all. Only a percentage is. There plenty places even just in the solar system itself that proves this. As titan a moon is covered with an ocean of pure methane. Which could be used as an oil substitute
The deep and lost feeling at the end of the video is so random and unexplainable, Its those movie with a un-usual ending and you really want to know what happened next.
This is seriously an incredible feat. All of it. The modding, the setup, _the ship,_ the storytelling, the players, the lore. Even if the backstory of Earth isn't deep, it doesn't have to be. The ship, itself, is a messenger from the past. The players also all have their moments of depth: why did you wake us up _now?_ I can't even remember who I was. This feels like an afterlife. The journey to Janus was incredibly optimistic, in spite of the state of things, giving excellent Outer Wilds vibes. It honestly felt more like an RPG one-shot, or the first book in a space adventure series, than a modding video. I would love to use a lot of the elements here in a TTRPG one-shot, or a short story, someday. I hope that is okay @doctor4t!

Also Eight is definitely their smart guy with all the fun facts.

Also I'm pretty sure his oxygen never goes down, which makes sense why he stayed outside while everyone was clambering back up after Rat
I'm pretty sure Eight never ran out of oxygen. When everyone else was on two or three bars he still had full oxygen. AT least the first time. It showed him low later on.
It would be a cool inclusion/minor twist.

Also some more ideas I’ll dump here if anyone ends up seeing this:
- portable oxygen tanks that members carry down for expeditions (could break)
- infrared visor setting (could be interesting if you ever need to search for organic life
- a rover for better land travel
- different kinds of medical equipment instead of stims, making assessing certain injuries tense and more interesting (could have a tablet that assesses a crew members health on top of this)
- guns on the ship. Please.
Also, I feel like reading into a game called Barotrauma would give you a lot more ideas to apply to this mod/series if you ever do more with it, as it’s got a lot of the kinds of stuff you could try and implement

a way to add exploration to gas giants would be floating gas powered ships that make sort of floating "cities". in the case of this universe they would be more so abandoned, run down but still able to barely function. if you needed to wrap a mission around it maybe you need to scavenge materials from these cities to fix parts of the ship or upgrade it to make it faster. also it might be cool to fly around a strong floorless world looking for ships floating as the fog of the clouds block some of your vision. and it could just be a way to add a little more, because now instead of having to make whole planets you just need to design individual structures that you can put on any gas giant you meet. another mission is maybe you need to take a gas tank and gas engine to, like i said before, make the ship faster (because it would take SO many light years to reach another solar system). maybe taking the engine knocks the city out of balance and it starts to fall into the center of the gas giant and you have to quickly rush back to your ship. just a cool suggestion that might add more spice and flavor to gas giants. (obviously you don't need to add any of this but just an idea cause i think you would love to add exploration to gas giants).
