    I've been watching since 1963 when the doctor landed on skaro. My favorite is Midnight. Wonderfully scripted and characterization

    Best story The Caves of Androzani. 18:49 but why does everyone think that a Dalek first levitated up a flight of stairs in 2005? They did it in Remembrance in 1988 a couple of times and that wasn’t the only thing that was introduced in that story, it was also the first time you saw someone’s skeleton when they were shot by a Daleks ray gun

    • @fuccasound3897
      @fuccasound3897 6 місяців тому

      Caves of Androzani is unremittingly grim! Bob Holmes is one of my favourite Dr Who writers but there are no lighter moments in the story. Can't remember who the script editor was at this time but it would have benefited from Terrance Dicks touch i think. It's a relief when Colin Baker turns up! I know this is Peter Davison's favourite but he didn't have to watch it!

    • @Meglos552
      @Meglos552 6 місяців тому +1

      @@fuccasound3897 Eric Saward was the script editor. I agree with you, it is grim but that’s the sort of Doctor Who I love. I like it when the stakes are so high, the Doctor is vulnerable and there isn’t a happily ever after or deus ex machina tacked on to the end to conveniently sort everything out because it makes it more realistic.

    • @fuccasound3897
      @fuccasound3897 6 місяців тому

      @@Meglos552 i don't feel those high stakes at all or those stakes have a very artificial premise, characters are poorly introduced, the cliff hangers are poor, and their resolutions even worse. The contrast between the quietly spoken script and incredibly noisy gun fire make it a pain to watch, it moves slowly, in fact i am watching it now, because i didn't want to do it a disservice. but i my opinions are not changed, Peri has nothing to do..except moan and scream, yeah i know she's dying but.....and it's not even that i dislike grim Dr Who, genesis is pretty grim, and heaven sent too.
      on the subject of deus ex machina, the worst example of that for me is the Seeds of Doom where after a brilliant and entertaining adventure the Doctor fails to solve the problem and the RAF missile the big green blobby thing to death....No Doctor required....

    • @Meglos552
      @Meglos552 6 місяців тому +1

      @@fuccasound3897 In regards to the cliff hangers yes, part 2 is quite bad, I wouldn’t say that the part 1 cliff hanger is poorly resolved though I think it’s a pretty good plot twist switching them for androids and as for part 3 that’s one of the most exiting cliff hangers of the entire series, gets me every time. Also I have to disagree about the pacing I’ve always found it to be one of the more fast paced stories compared to the other Davison serials, it never bores me. And as for the stakes, they are both dying and the Doctor isn’t even sure he will regenerate, he literally has to sacrifice himself to save Peri, I don’t think you can make the stakes much higher. But if you don’t like the story that’s fair enough, everyone has their favourites.
      And yeah, Seeds Of Doom ending is annoying. The most irritating one for me is Doomsday with the “void stuff” pulling the Cybermen and Daleks in, they literally had a scene in Army Of Ghosts explaining that nothing could exist in the void so how could there be “void stuff”? Abysmal writing

      The Daleks could levitate vertically out of the sand & move between decks on the Marie Celeste in The Chase, but we still get a stairs joke by Ian later in the same story.

    The Sea Devils. Mostly because they are such good monsters. Because the Master is on top form, making a signalling device from whatever Trenchard can nick from Screwfix for him. Good old Edwin Richfield as Captain Hart (moving down invading turtle men sat on a howitzer) and June Murphy as Jane Blythe. The Sea Devil leader saying ‘no…I do not think he liessszzss’. The ASTOUNDING score by Malcolm Clarke. Those two dudes working on the sea fort. In fact the only thing I don’t like about it is that ridiculous white suit Jo is wearing - which can’t have looked good even in 1972.

  • @cid7016

    IMO would be... World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls.
    Kinda cheating since it's a two parter but you really need both to enjoy the whole story and it's.. magnificent. You get Missy being Missy yes, but also really diving into the character's mind and feelings. Some of the best acting from Pearl Mackie as Bill. Nardole is amazing, too. And Capaldi is just superb, his speech about being KIND. The one trait that really shows the Doctor for who they are. You get Cybermen and Classic ones too! It's sad and it's beautiful.
