    I think a better explanation for the devil's androgyny is simply that angels were originally portrayed as androgynous in Christian mythology, its trying to portray him as an angel, rather than some corrupted demon.

    Devilman Crybaby really taught me especially at the end of episode 9; you don't have to be posses by a devil, to do bad things. You don't have to be a devil to do evil things like what the mob did to Hero, his homie w the katana sword, Miki and Miki(o), no one in that mob was possessed... They did all of that by themselves..

    Most of this is a pretty interesting way to view Devilman Crybaby on its own terms, though I will say that opening scene of Crybaby’s first episode shows all the angels looking similar to Satan, including the intersex bodies. This is also depicted as such in the OVAs as well as the Devilman manga. If you read the manga, Satan’s motivations and reasoning are far more explicit. The manga even seems to suggest a frame where Satan’s war against God is a righteous cause in its preservation of life unwanted by its creator while also condemning Satan’s war against humanity. The sequel manga Devilman Lady even seems to reinforce this frame while exploring Gnostic conceptions of God and Satan. The humorous parody CB Chara Go Nagai world gets meta and portrays God as the Go Nagai logo who seems to exist to torment his creations - his characters.

    To me devilman hinted the unchangeable reality of how humans by doing sabbaths/night clubs to having egoistic political meetings that still lead to no solution or even worsen the problems essentially destroy themselves. We satisfy ourselves with little or big things and try to avoid the fact that we are in no control over anything. True happiness is one's happiness with themselves but that isnt enough, collectively were failing to lead and soon enough reality has to hit even the completely oblivious ones

      Yeah I also feel like there is beauty in this, if we look at satan as evil itself or lets entropy, we can see how akira cant escape, beat or even control his best friend. I feel like berserk ( Im aware its overused for comparison) the mc is fighting against all odds and whether or not he wins or even the entire species wins is almost irrelevant. The world is selfish, society is selfish, no one is really who they appear to be on a surface level, but still we fight

    i think it’s also interesting that by the end, Ryo and Akira are now paralleling the relationship of Satan and God.
    The fact that Ryo creates Akira in his name and Akira openly rebels but Ryo kind of invites it. I think this provides more clarity on why God doesn’t kill Satan, because it Ryo and Akira’s relationship shows their own relationship as well that Ryo hasn’t recognized yet.

      They are essentially a massive pivot and positive depoction of male culture. For example they start of as outcast for basically being douches but then near the end become more intune with their emotions and even though they are outcasted they actually become the good guys as their self awareness grows. This entire show really feels like berserk in the sense of how masculine toxicity is handled and can be converted into positivity. E.G the humans hugging amon or when the backwards cap guy defends miki understanding her more as a good human being opposed to how he threateningly hit on her in the first ep.

    Hi American Ben,
    Thanks for the video. I recommend you watch Lucifer from 2016. It is a series that touches on the topic of spirituality and how humanity views it. It is not an anime, but I think it would be practical due to a comment you made: "He is the Devil" and what you implied through tone and the following short silence.
    I think Lucifer would slightly challenge that view of spirituality and its meaning. :)

    How i interpreted the story i believe that the whole plot was God's very cruel way of teaching his favorite child love and empathy.
    As for the creator's intentions i believe that its: we can all be cruel but also kind no matter how we were born. As for the gender of satan, in general angels for the last 2000 years are portrait as androgynous. (The greek daemon/goddess Niki and her form influenced this depiction a lot)

    Are you going to review the new Netflix death game drama? It's a Korean one this time, and the games and the interactions/characters are far more grounded in the realm of plausibility than Alice in Borderland was... But tbh I would only call it decent because of the disappointing conclusion. Felt like it became directionless towards the end and missed the mark. That and it's just more fun when the death games are completely bonkers.
    God, now that I'm comparing the two in my head I really want to go watch Alice again lol. Anyway, thought it was worth a suggestion and a watch in any case. I didn't not enjoy it even for all those things I think could've been done better :/

    Now, this is referencing the source material, and I love an end that's open to interpretation, but it's still worth mentioning. God punishes Ryo by having him relive Akira's death over and over again.

      A normal m2 browning .50cal would handle the majority of "mindless" titans. The more specialized titans "the 9", could be handled by a few aerial strikes with some missiles.
      Aircraft carriers and destroyers could end the war in one strike.
      Most countries (U.S.A., Russia, U.K., Japan, China, Germany, France, etc.) have MBT's that are more than capable of making child's play of even the Armored Titan's durability.
      Combined arms doctrine and fighting from a distance. Various troops to weaken and/or distract the titan followed by a swift critical strike to the Titans' weak-spot.

      But TBH, this question was already answered by part 1 of the last season of Attack on Titan.
      The world's armies in the show were beginning to adapt their military technology to supercede the threat of, and need for, titans in modern warfare. Even the Marlyean Empire has began to advance and decrease total reliance on titans, although they do still play an integral role in military operations. Acting as a special forces unit of sorts.

Kratos saves him! God of War theory”. Since God is portrayed as the bad guy in this, but instead of Odin it’s God, and instead of Thor, it’s Satan, and Kratos would technically save Satan and fight God because he doesn’t want this particular loop to continue for eternity, since he’s already been through it, or perhaps Kratos can do something else entirely in order to break the loop.

It's very much a story about salvation and finding love and hope no matter the darkness we have in ourselves and in our lives. I see the analysis about the message of fear and distrust for what is different, the problem I see is that the demons by and large have no redeeming qualities. They are monsters who want to destroy us (since we see more kindness from humans, my stance is that the demons are the real monsters, not humanity), Ryo's backstory is only hinted at so all we really see of him is a monster who seeks to destroy humanity and overthrow God. I will need a sequel giving him more focus before I EVER consider him sympathetic.

    • @rain_ypjm
      @rain_ypjm 2 роки тому +2

      I don't think the message of "be more accepting of those who are different" has to necessarily be imposed on the demons or Satan himself. I'm not really into that idea as a Christian but I still found myself sympathizing with his existence cuz of that ending and the whole reveal that Ryo has to relive the discovering of love, the value in humans and the human will to be alive. If we base it off of real biblical events, Lucifer was cast from heaven for defying God, for wanting his job, for thinking he could do better than God at creation, etc. Ryo never saw the value in humans until it came to Akira. Akira, who cried for everyone else, who had an unwavering moral sense to save everyone, the only one that became a devilman on his own will and used his demon body to save humans, cuz he saw the human intrinsic value, he is the direct opposite of Ryo. To me, it was kinda like a message from God, a "let me show you the value of the human will, the value in my creation, the value in love" and by the end Ryo recognized his love for Akira but it was too late(Akira died and another Earth was formed and the loop began again). His punishment was love from God. And idk it may not be exactly how things have gone if you believe in Christianity, but that is such beautiful story telling regardless and I appreciate the fiction being a believer

    • @dragonstormx
      @dragonstormx 2 роки тому +2

      @@rain_ypjm Your analysis kinda went off track from the point I was making about how the themes of fear and distrust don't work when the demons have almost all their humanizing traits cut out. In particular it's supposed to be horrifying when humanity starts turning on itself due to fear of demons among us, but as the end of the series showed, the demons really are the monsters humans think they are.
      In particular Akira's human heart keeps him from becoming a monster while fused with a demon. Essentially it was saying a human is morally superior to a demon. Things like love and kindness are established as human ideals, demons by and large don't value them. The series tries to say humans can be as bad as demons as proof we are alike, but if that is the case, where are the demons who are as kind and compassionate as humans? Where are the demons who will gladly aid beings outside their own kind out of the goodness of their heart?

    • @persona3rulez

      @@Darkredeyes CB relies more on graphic violence and did too much silly changes. Like, why did they make the little brother a demon? Why? They were scared that a decapitated horrified child would get them in trouble? Made in Abyss seems fine though. Also it's not always good to overshow and overexplain. Ending manga with more melancholic and even more open end is much better. It doesn't overshow you the consequences nor it doesn't show Satan too humane or evil. He didn't want to fight Akira in the manga, he had to because Akira wouldn't stop now. The point of the manga was that God tried to kill demons because he viewed them as a plague, later Satan and demons viewed humans as a plague since they only hurt everything around them. Satan and demons weren't evil, they were afraid that humans would destroy their world and in the end Satan's punishment was being sympathetic to both sides. He now understood humanity but couldn't stop demons no more, he did so much damage to both sides he could never fix things and reverse the damage. The final moments are melancholic, Satan and Akira are finally in peace. No more demons, no more humans, no more pain and finally God's army descended to judge Satan for his sins.

      @@persona3rulez bro, I know what you are talking about. However, Satan in the first place is too evil to understand human feelings and what they want, Satan is not good to be with humans, and Akira is no good to be with demons and the clash begins from this very point. It's not logic to say Satan got grinded cuz Satan was the one who started all of this sufferings, injustices and unfairness. There is no right to say god is the evil in the manga. This is why I like the CB more than manga

There are must two types of readers and you are the type of readers when reading a certain type of story/manga, you want it to be finished with a good ending ignoring what happened in the middle, ignoring the origin of the villain and ignoring the lessons that should be learned from the story.... however, it's no bad to be this type it's just some people also like to end the story with this ending (CB), so, we still will not be in the same point
