Notes about this video: 1. In an ideal world, I would have had a 'uniform' that was made of natural material like wool, but 1). I'm not made of money, and 2). I wanted something easy to wash and dry. 2. I also got a 'summer uniform top' (sleeveless cropped tee) but it was never warm enough to wear it.
I love uniforms. When I quit working at a place where a uniform was required I became very unhappy with my wardrobe. I do not like having a lot of clothes. I just want to grab and go. My ideal wardrobe is 3 uniforms, 3 day outfits, 1 grunge work outfit, and 3 church outfits
My wife has dressed this way for the last 10 years. She was inspired by high-end Japanese fashion (Comme des Garcons etc) and it certainly makes life simpler. It's basically Marie Kondo but for clothes.
A friend of mine had a slightly different approach to this which could suit your personality more. She had a Monday outfit, Tuesday outfit, Wednesday etc. so she didn’t have to think what she would wear that day, but it was always different from the day before and the day after. From memory there was nothing set for the weekend.
@@graceturner9558 I had a teacher in college who did that! She had a two week rotation. Of course, as "knowledgeable " young people, we laughed at her for being so predictable.
You picked a very chic outfit. It looks great on you. I think you could have the same pants and just do the top in 5 different colors and it’s be the same result - no thinking
Sometimes simplifying soothes the soul. I don’t find it restrictive, I find it frees me from an inner argument..love what you do Laura, thanks for sharing and daring to try new things.
I love choosing what to wear in the morning: what style to adopt, what colours to suit my mood. I love clothes, so to me it's not time wasted. It's time spent doing something I enjoy. And I definitely notice what other people wear. Not in a critical way, more appreciating different styles and aesthetics. I can see the appeal of the simplicity, but def not for me. This was a really interesting experiment. Thanks for putting it out there in the world ❤ xx
I share your point of view ❤ In order to save time I just prepare my outfit the night before, and it can be declined with slight variations (belted vs loose for exemple) so that I wear the same outfit thrice in a row but it’s not obvious 😊
Just wore black for one year. 7 luxury jumpers and the black pants and shoes I had. I loved it. The jumbers were light and kept me warm when needed. My husband had died and he wanted me to wear black for the year after is death. We live in Johannesburg, south Africa
As an autistic person I just LOVE this!! I have such a hard time choosing what to wear, especially outside of my home. I don't have just one uniform but if I find clothes that I like I often buy several pieces of it in similar colors. And as for the question about you wearing black in the videos, I don't mind it at all. For me, it's actually the other way around - to many colors sometimes disturbs me a bit 😅 Thank you for another great video!! Love from Sweden 💜🇸🇪
Hi from a fellow autistic. I also have my safe things to wear and buy 2 or more of the same pants. I put comfort first(sensory issues). I do mostly wear black. Never white.
My personality is too chaotic to be condensed down to all black. I think the universe would collapse if it didn't see me dressed like a parrot for even a week 😂
I can say that I personally never noticed the wardrobe change. There're usually a couple of days/weeks between uploads, so by the time I see you again, I've pretty much forgotten what you were wearing in your last video, let alone 2-3 videos ago. For someone who binged your content after a long hiatus, they probably noticed the span of videos where you were wearing all black and this video probably helped them realize that they weren't going insane 😂
My husband found 17 of the same tee at the thrift store. He loved the fit, so he bought them and has been wearing them every day for over two years. No one has ever noticed. I would love to do a similar experiment. I just haven't found an outfit or item that I love enough to wear every single day.
That is awesome that he found a great useful thrift. I have heard others say no one noticed they wore the same thing for X number of days, but I am not sure I believe it. Some people may notice they just either don’t say anything or just don’t care, and probably both.
@@cindynorris5983 Yepp I also think people notice but don't say anything because they think maybe it's not a big deal. It goes to show dressing up isn't all that serioud
@@human_kittenz yea I think that's unfortunate too. *Sigh. Well I guess the most important thing is doing what pleases you. Everything else...is out of our control
Having a black cat and owning mostly black clothes results in some hilarious moments... My ex boyfriend from years ago had black cats and I caught myself talking to a black bag or a black jacket on the bed thinking it was one of the cats 😭
Charlie: "Well, of course black coat is best! Everyone knows that!" As I get older, comfort in what I wear definitely gets more important. For some time I've mostly opted for yoga clothes at home, and some outside of the house if they look alright. Comfortable and allow movement! I might make some myself so they fit right and look the way I want them to. I'm also one of those who isn't that fond of picking clothes in the morning, so I'd think a capsule wardrobe would be most effective. I'll probably go for that from here.
Im dressed all black in the same outfit for 2 years and a half now, nobody asked me nothing, very hardly ever, only when I changed something they notice something. Make life so much easier. I think the best is to have an outfit for each seasons.
@@DarkTrapStudio yeah but black is boring. It's OK for the french, but the rest of us like colour. Done this in blue. And red. Next will be pink. So easy in the morning.
I've got a friend who kind of does the opposite, she has specific out of the house outfits and then wears whatever at home. The same dress for all celebrations or important events for 12 years so far, it almost looks like she's a time traveler when you look at all our photos hahaa. I find it strangely comforting when she wears her 'fancy' clothes to things, kind of signifies the specialness of the event. Plus whenever I see someone else with a similar style or the same colour I'm reminded of her which is lovely.
Your experiment was so timely, as I've been thinking more about the need for a uniform per se for work to simplify my life, to save money and be more environmentally responsible. I lean towards black anyway and I live near NYC so black as a color choice is often seen as sophisticated and classy. I'm also doing "Swedish death cleaning" to make it easier for my family to sort through my stuff when I pass whole also experiencing the benefit of greater simplicity. Re: the questions you pose, I love how your experiments go beyond whether something works or not; rather you poke us with bigger and more thoughtful questions about one's choices. I agree with you about how men and women are socialized about clothing choices and perceptions f those choices. However, I'm intrigued with how gender expression hads been upended (in a good way) about how people can dress. Of course, this isn't new and often culturally bound; still, it's interesting to think about and perhaps will give us more freedom (?) Thanks again for another great video! And, no judgment at all - frankly, didn't even notice and not boring at all!
I think the reason it was so successful was that you chose so well the style of outfit that would fit your life. Adding colour in makes it more fun, but having the same style is the winning factor. Great video, Laura, thank you!
I was a Marine for an entire career. One of the best parts about it was that I had a uniform -- no worries about what to wear every day, and even on formal occasions I had the formal uniform. One of the hardest things about transitioning to the civilian world -- figuring out what to wear, especially as a female! It seems that men can always wear Dockers and a white shirt -- to everything!
No matter if you wear bright colors or black, your beautiful personality and heart shines through. I love the easiness of this, taking the thought out. I switched to wearing all black scrubs to work for the same reason. I also had an ex who would do something similar, but it was a certain outfit for every day. Each day had it's own outfit so he was still able to have some variety but without having to think about it.
I'd love to try it. Perhaps an expansion of this could be to try a uniform in "your" colours (after doing the skin tone colour analysis) and assess whether they actually affect your mood. A colleague of mine, knowing her colour palette, would buy only clothes in that palette which she already knew would match and look good on her and dress in the morning in two seconds with her eyes closed, removing decision fatigue. Perhaps an idea for another video??
This is a great edit, I love your dedication to science. I didn't notice, good or bad, the outfit in past videos but your face definitely shines in lighter brighter colors. It is awesome that you included the bobble in the kot lunge 👌🏼 I am just starting the program and glad to see I'm not the only one without rock solid balance 😄
You've chosen a perfect outfit. I don't think people care really as long as it's decent enough and not too shouty. That blouse looks absolutely smashing on you (while still quite neutral?) A real shame it's sold out. I think I'd like this as a uniform as a stay-at-home-mom. Comfy but chique!
I've been doing this for about a decade. It's so freeing to not have to worry about what you're going to wear every day. I have one style of pants for spring/summer, and another style for fall/winter. Same goes for tops, long sleeve and short sleeve. I buy them in every color (that looks good on me) from L.L. Bean, and when something wears out, it is easily replaceable because they always make the same styles.
Your personality shines through no matter what you wear. What a great idea to get the "uniform" in different colors! Go with what feels good for you. 😄
You look really smart in your black outfit! 👍 Love this idea. I don't think I'd go so minimalist of one outfit but definitely inspired me to just have a few basics for work. Thanks for sharing your experience. 😊
I pretty much do this every day for the last couple years. The wardrobe parts are the same, shorts, T-shirt, underwear. But that’s it. The shorts are mostly all black, I do have different colored T-shirts, but I wouldn’t mind. All black and underwear is black. I’m happy.
I suppose that is the concept behind many work and school uniforms, removing the thinking part and simplifying as well as create visual homogeneity. I didn’t notice you were wearing the same black outfit in your last videos, what stands out is your beautiful face and your personality, it doesn’t matter what you wear. Also a pattern is easy to notice if it repeats itself, but not black
I did the Camino de Santiago this summer. I wore the same 2 sport outfits every day and had a 1 sundress I wore every evening. When I finished I went shopping and bought a few dresses and a pair of sandals that were totally my style for the final few days where I was a tourist in Portugal. I finally felt like my real self. It really lifted my spirits.
For 20 years I had to wear all black for work. Opening my own business 9 years ago and being able to choose whatever color I want still feels like a privilege!
Love this. I have been slowly downsizing for the 2nd time in my life. Getting to that final chapter. Focus on the clothes I love to wear. We can all go now and find something we may choose last because of fit or feels. Then why are they hanging there? People are important. Not what they are wearing. Less is more. But if u find something you love. Buy it!! Wear it or say good bye to it.
As a painter, black is a non colour to me and I do carry that on into my wardrobe. I sew all my clothes from a small number of patterns, so make the same dress, jacket, trousers etc, in a variety of coloured fabrics , plain and patterned. I chose the sewing patterns for their ease in sewing , the comfort on wearing , they suit my frame and build, I can layer too. The colour being the only difference. So like you , I have a uniform without realising it, till I watched your video ! How interesting ! Well done
I get the attraction of doing this as it definitely makes things simpler! But I love expressing myself through what I'm wearing, especially adapting my style to my mood or how I need to feel that day (eg. confident, attractive, strong, practical). I choose my outfit for work the night before which makes it easier in the morning to not have to make those decisions when I'm just waking up! Big love, great video! P.S please do a video on the posture bras!
What I like about this, and what your video made me realise, is that now you have an outfit (or a set of outfits) that you can just go with on the days that you don’t care, don’t have much time, etc. But that also makes it very clear when you do really feel like wearing a particular outfit/colour, it’s like a clear signal in your brain: oh yes, this dress that I love, really want to wear that today. and that now also does not require much energy (except if that dress wouldn’t be practical in which case you can go back to the uniform). So basically it makes the whole process of getting dressed much easier, even on days were you don’t actually end up wearing the uniform.
Ive been only buying two new pants and four shirts for everyday wearing with an additional shirt and pants for going to the shop each year for the past eight years. I am a housewife and wear a apron over my clothes. My aprons are home made. The trick is to buy good quality 100% cotton or linen when you buy clothes or fabric and to handwash these items. During the winter months I alternate two jackets and a sweater that is over 10 years old. I also wear the previous year's pants and shirts when I attend to my vegetable garden in order to make my clothes last long enough before the next purchase.
I had a work uniform for years: black straight-legged jeans or pants, black-based printed top, and black Danskos. Added a charcoal blazer for meetings. Not only was it easy to get dressed every day, but it made packing for trips so simple.
Hi Laura! This video is the first of yours that I've seen. The outfit you've chosen lends a chic, professional, and bad-ass vibe, in my opinion. I believe it is due to the unique tailoring and cut of your pants and shirts as well as the sharp contrast of the black against your skin tone. All in all, I enjoyed this video thoroughly. I think adding a smaller and larger cut of the same shirt would have spiced things up for me if I did this challenge. Switching up accessories, hairstyles, and makeup was also fun to see! Thank you for this video!
I loved this experiment! But I don’t think all black all the time is sustainable 😂 for many of the reasons you mention in the video. I basically do a variation of this by using a “capsule wardrobe” which might be a fun experiment for another video for you. Basically you buy about ~10 clothing items that can be mixed and matched well and you only wear those. This cuts down on the selection paralysis of a giant wardrobe bc you only have a few tops and bottoms to choose from, but I’ve found it kinda boosts creativity bc it’s like how can I combine these into different outfits I like.
I've been wearing the same thing for months 🥲 It's hot where I live and no ac in the car. So tank/bike shorts it is. All black too! I'm in the gothy aesthetic, so black is my thing. Plus less spending on clothing equals more funds for trips and good food.
Such an interesting experiment! I have 'uniform' clothes and I love it. I have a summer and winter wardrobe that all go together. But I also allow myself the option to not wear my uniform. I think it's about ease and choice. If you need easy, take easy, but if you are feeling creative and in that moment it gives you energy, do it!
What a great experiment! And funny! The black uniform is so simple. But also, a bit oppressive after a while.. Just think of how children are so happy when they experience colors. I think I see sheer joy at the end when you resolve to add just a few colors to your wardrobe.
My late husband had a "uniform" that worked for him when we lived in the Yucatan. Basically beige slacks and a guayabera shirt ( you may know it as a Mexican wedding shirt). It worked for every occasion depending upon how nice the shirt was. He was colorblind so he didn't have to worry about the colors matching. I have worked jobs with uniforms and I like it for work, it makes things simple in the morning. However, now that I am retired, I really enjoy picking my outfit for the day. I do agree that most people don't notice what you are wearing on a daily basis or even care.
Decision fatigue is Real! For my working "uniform'' I chose half a dozen jumpers ( in the UK you call them pinafores) in cheerful prints and half a dozen blouses to mix and match with them, also in prints. It's colorful, the prints hide spills really well, which is vital because the job is messy. Since everything goes together I don't have to think first thing in the morning.
This falls along the line of most of us having a finite amount of (creative) mental energy that can be expended each day - and every decision draws from that finite pool, leaving less for the more important works. I've seen various versions of this - one person had the same breakfast every day for years and I have a story of a friend's dad - an engineer who retired and did not want to put on weight. So he calculated his energy needs and designed a set of meals around that, that he has every day. I can see having some kind of uniform to get you into a working mindset is useful - so long as there is the balance of having a non-work clothes where you can put work behind you or show your personality. The other line is an experiment on what other people think/ notice - with the answer often being "not much". We had a local, male, morning TV host who wore the same suit every day for a year - in a protest against some of the comments his female co-hosts received about what they wore - and no-one noticed. (LOL) On that - I can't say I really noticed your all-black phase. I know I saw it - but it wasn't something that I thought about. Likely because I'm a clueless male - but I also used to have a copy of a quote in my work area saying " a clean desk is the sign of a cluttered mind" and I'm a firm believer of that.
I like the comment! I have a weekly meal plan too, it saves me so much time and energy. I read about the news anchor story. I wanted to include it in this video, but couldn’t find a tidy entry point. Thanks for sharing!
I honestly didn't notice the work outfit in multiple videos. Now that you point it out, I do remember seeing that particular outfit. I watch other videos out of order, so it never dawned on me that you wore it in more than one video, let alone week after week. You are a lovely person regardless of what you are wearing. I work from home also (not on camera) and have been known to wear the same outfit all week; I go from my night pj's to my work pj's. I find it easier in the morning not having to figure out what to wear. If I'm comfortable and not fidgeting in my outfit, I'm more productive at work. I allow myself to change into regular street clothes when I have an appointment outside the house or go to the store. Love your videos and your accent.
If you haven't already, you might want to explore colour seasons and what your colour season paletter might be based on your skin undertones/overtones. House of colour are great for that if you want to invest but otherwise theres loads of resources online. It means that by sticking to a palette, the majority of your clothes will go with each other no matter what. It makes shopping and getting dressed soo much easier but still keeping colours and personality! It's been life changing for me! Love your channel ❤❤❤
When I worked in the nhs, non clinical, but in a clinic setting! I pestered for a uniform! It was so easy having 5 tunics and 5 trousers! Now I work from home so just wear jeans and a top and a few months ago started to build my capsule wardrobe, and I’m loving putting it together!
I'm curious that you chose solid black when you usually wear patterns and colours. Now at the end, I see you stayed with the same style but added colour back in. Perfect solution! A few years ago, I pared my wardrobe back to all blues and whites. Blue being my favourite colour. And I limit myself to 3 of each piece - slacks, skirts, tops, t shirts, etc. So my wardrobe is contained yet has variety. I alternate between blue bottom/white top and white top/blue bottom in winter/summer. Since I started doing this maybe 5 years ago, exactly 2 people have commented on my blue tops - both were men in the progressive circle at rock n roll dancing. One was when I switched from blue on top to white on top (Where's your blue top?) and the other commented when I wore a new patterned blue and white top rather than solid blue. I just laughed. Honestly, it was the first time in my life I didn't feel invisible. Maybe the blue is more flattering to my skin tone than white. Who knows?! Dancing has taught me that no one is paying as much attention to me (my dancing skills, my clothes, where I live, what I drive, etc) as I am.
I admire you for sticking to it. I think more is expected of women but imagine it can be very freeing. I would consider such a thing but with only black for a time. The yellow swirl pattern dress you wore for a bit is so great on you!
I discovered elastic waistbands in my 20s and never went back. Mid 50s now, still only wear them, except for summer when I wear drawstring waist shorts (US, not sure what they're called in UK). I also found a multi-colored stripe sweater (jumper) that goes with black trousers, and bought multiples, so I still have a uniform that works for any activity and includes color. I have yet to find a striped tank top/singlet for summer wear that I can get multiples of, and I've learned how to knit them, might get around to knitting several. That's a long-term project!
At a previous job I cycled to work, the ride wasn't strenuous so I didn't need a dedicated outfit, so I just wore my work clothes. Realistically that meant I had to wear trousers as dresses or skirts weren't practical for me. I had three trousers (two black one blue) and a range of very similar in style blouses (all be it different colours) and three jumpers. I knew that whatever I grabbed would look fine together and would be work appropriate. Honestly, it was so relaxing not to have to think about what to pick as an outfit in the morning because no matter what combo I chose, it always worked. I miss that and now I'm thinking I might gently nudge my wardrobe back in the direction
You are SOOO the best, Laura! I can't know of course if this is the real you - but it feels real to me and I feel honored to be let into your life! I chose a pair of black wide-leg pants and a black mock turtleneck blouse/top in 1986 (!!) YES!! and have been wearing some variation of that forever. I feel comfortable (and slim) in black but love best that I don't have to think about what to put on. I have maybe 3 pieces in prints (jungle prints) that I wear over the black pieces every once in a while. Love my style; LOVE yours! ps - did you find Halara stood up to that rigor - many washings etc?
Wow, thanks for giving me the motivation, I needed to start putting together my capusle wardrobe & maybe filming my journey. I'm so glad I found your channel. Just ordered 2 pairs of trousers🎉
For the past 30 years I"ve worn black trousers (trousers, or jeans) and added a top (t-shirt or jumper) in the colour of my choice. So simple!! Add a scarf, bag or hat to 'pop'!
Ha I’ve been waiting for this, LT … I was right about you planning a capsule wardrobe! 😂 As you know, I love the outfits 😉 They look so together on you and not sombre at all. Love the brooches additions, and that you had compliments too. The different colours in the same style are a great idea. I tend to only wear two colours or my mind feels cluttered. I do have some patterned items, and love a scandi jumper. Most of my wardrobe is black, and thanks to you, soon to be blacker! x🖤x
Really enjoyed that. There is probably sense to the final verdict. Of mix and match outfits. Some people are gifted at buying outfits. Where I only buy an item of clothes. My mother always buys her jumper and tip together to match a specific pants. It's something I must do.
I think your all black choice looks smart so I wouldn't think twice about seeing that in a video. Because you asked, personally I think the fact that it is a collared shirt vs a tshirt makes me think you look "fancier" or "professional". Recently I'd decided for myself to have seven outfits each season for work that I will just rotate - not mix and match because that is still thinking, but just a rotation of seven outfits and this has reduced the thinking fatigue, i just pick the next one in rotation and go. It allows me to vary up my clothing without any decision fatigue.
I would only adopt wearing the same outfit every day if I needed to save money I think. I spend way too much money on clothes so I can see it would have good benefits but I just love different colours styles and textures of the clothes I have. I don’t look good in black but I like the idea of finding something that feels comfy and that might make me simplify what I wear. But like you found when you were going out it’s difficult to find something that works for different occasions. I’d have to have a winter and a summer outfit too. Great video thanks Laura for even making me consider this idea!
It is called a uniform. I think it is a great idea and I fondly recall my school days. A Swedish lady on UA-cam ( who is minimalist) limited her colours to black, grey and a shade of white. The cut of all her trousers, tops, sweaters, are also the same because she knows what flatters her body shape.
Hey Laura, I think nearly everyone has a favourite set of clothes that they wear every day, probably without noticing that they are. For me, it’s jeans in various stages of blue, also like black, and I love khaki green shades. Summer or winter, with pants being looser and cooler in our hot Australian summers. I am not a dresses or skirts person at all because they get in the way of all activities. All tops are colours with strength like blues, greys, pinks, black, and definitely reds. I have white blond curly shoulder length hair and am in my 60’s, tall and slim. I love red accents more than anything, shoes, scarves, caps. I am a visual artist and hard working gardener, ride a push bike in warm months and walk almost every day. I love variety. I have some favourite barefoot shoes and love boots. I cannot do fussy clothes or anything that flaps around, no frilly’s nor tops that scream in my face on myself. Pants and tops with lots of colour and will adapt to the weather, means plenty of choices. If I had to wear black every day for a month I know that I would absolutely hate it.
I love that you recorded the 100 days. I think you looked fantastic. I loved the posture bra but way out of my price range. Thank you for sharing this. ❤
It is true... a man can wear the same outfit... my husband wears the same every day... when I kinda do the same... my husband goes... "the monday outfit;;" I thing you choose the wrong outfit for you... you like feminine tops... and suits you! You can go with smth which is more you...❤
When I am feeling abot down I always watch your videos. I have had to quit my day job and stay on as a cover due to some performances and exciting opportunities coming up in my creative work, so I am struggling to get dressed in the morning when I work from home. I think I might try the second version, where you had a few trousers and a few shirts in different colour. Thanks for this video and for brightening my day!
Well done! I'm not sure I'd have had the gumption to carry once I got bored. I really like that outfit; what a great choice you made. I LOVE choosing what to wear every day. I wore all black for years and years (the clothes were sometimes quite eccentric, but always black). Then, I had my colours done, found out I was a bright spring and realised what I'd been missing out on. Also, as the colours in my palette all work so well together, it's so much fun to go as bright as possible (without quite looking completely loopy lala!) I love my spring palette and haven't worn black even once, since I was analysed in March last year. Even my cycling clothes and workout stuff are in my colours. Oh, and underwear (I turned over a new leaf and only ever wear matching sets, now). By the way, there ARE some differences between men and women and it's perfectly all right to acknowledge that (unless one is completely unhinged, in which case, it may be an issue for some, hehe).
You're correct, it's easier for men...I wear denim jeans and a black polo shirt every day...and a black fleece if it's cold...no thought has to go into my wardrobe, which suits me fine!! 😊
Interesting, firstly I don’t think any different of you if you are wearing yellow or black. I think you are sincere and usually upbeat with the right amount of honesty when your garden isn’t rosy. I heard some one talking about the clothes mountains this summer. Now I just want to reduce my purchases and maybe have 5-7 outfits and 3-5 gym clothes. I’ve already purged 5 large trash bags but I’m ready to fill some more. I usually wear black t-shirts and shorts but I do love me some funky tie dye 😂
Always lovely to see a new video from you, LT. You're one of my favorite UA-cam-rs. 💛 And I always enjoy seeing cameos from Charlie. I would honestly love to see a whole video just of Charlie. Maybe on how pets contribute to a cheerful life? Or in honor of the U.S. National Black Cat Day on Oct 27? ...can you tell that I'm trying any possible avenue in securing a Charlie video? 😂 I can't help it, he's an absolute doll!
I was rewatching some of your videos yesterday thinking, I wonder when she will upload? I was pleasantly surprised to see a new video today! Miss you LT, hope you’re keeping well!
Perfect idea for a work wardrobe to simplify life. I would need choices for the weekend and going out but also love the idea of having this to fall back on for the times when it’s too hard to decide! I agree this is somehow more acceptable for guys to do and women (and men!) can enjoy clothes as a means of self expression, however I wonder if our personality may shine more if the clothes are a blank canvas and not influencing others opinions?! PS you look so fab in yellow please don’t give that up long term 😊
Awesome! Love the uniform you came up with at the end. Very capsule like! I wear black scrubs to work everyday, and I am so thankful. I come home and put on cozy pajamas. My laundry is easy to do too. Lol
I have heavily minimised my wardrobe over the past few years. I live rurally and work from home (we have the same Woolpower zipneck, Laura, but mine is red). In cold weather I wear black Rohan Troggings, black trainers, a merino top (zipneck, hoodie or tee in various colours) and a fleece gilet. As it gets warmer, I switch to pull-on wide-leg jeans and a Breton top. For summer, I have pull-on wide-leg linen trousers in navy or white, tees in navy or white and a navy cardigans, plus a small wardrobe of dresses, mostly blue cotton. I avoid pattern other than stripes and polka dots, but I have a bunch of bright pashminas. For summer, I buy a pair of bright leather Oxfords every year or two and I've worn the same straw hat for over 20 years. This system works pretty well for me. I've been more minimal but found myself washing clothes constantly, so I added a few things back in.
omg I love love love this! Can't believe I'm only just finding your channel. I have a simplified wardrobe and really like simplicity, but have never done the uniform thing... I love the buying in different shades ideas. And then I'm guessing when you have an occasion you might wear something different? Really awesome
Before the end I was going to say " you should have chosen another colour" . I do like black. I wear a lot of black or black and grey or ecru during the week and then different for the weekend. I suppose for nights out or holidays I express my personality more however I have an eclectic dress style but I am quite goth I do like my black. You definitely look better in a bit of colour. But I definitely find having a standard rotation of clothes for work super useful. X😊
I have been in the position of wearing black for work , the trick to ringing in the changes is accessories. Scalfs ,shawls and ties bring a nice bit of colour, necklaces and other jewellery add character and on a plain background can afford to be a little more bold than you would normally wear .
I put together more or less a capsule wardrobe for my husband for work. A few pairs of nice pants, and several short sleeved work shirts, and several long sleeved work shirts. They make lots of different combinations, but all work together. He still has to pick clothes, but it's a lot easier. He wears mainly t shirts and jeans otherwise.
This is the first video of yours that I am watching and your personality shines through the black outfit :) Anyway, interesting experiment, I might try a variation of something like this as I feel it would help with my adhd and choice fatigue.
I do this with different colours each week. Monochrome changed every week. Closet arranged accordingly. Easy. But it cannot be the same top or bottom. Skirts and pants; capris, narrow, flare etc etc; silk, wool, cotton, or blend; different types of tops. Still very easy.
I loved this!! Although I did have a dopamine hit when I saw your outfit on day 101 😂 colour suits you! But the concept is great. I’m a bit lost with clothes at the moment so this has been food for thought. I also really appreciate the length of time you dedicate to your different challenges. So much more interesting than if you just did it for a week or so x
In my tribe people wear the same fabric for a year but in different designs when they mourn and have a big celebration when they stop to signify the end of mourning. I've never thought of how much of themselves they sacrifice.
This was a fun challenge! I think you made a good transition/choice incorporating color but staying with the same models , clever! 👌🏼 Also: you looked really stylish and professional and pretty in black aswell as the colors I think 🙂
I really appreciate you trying this but I don’t think I could do this! I find great joy in picking out my week of outfits on Sundays, steaming them, and putting them on. They’re all obnoxiously colorful and they make me feel good which helps me perform better. But! Everyone is different and I love that you tried this!
I love your videos Laura! This was an awesome experiment to document!! There are some days I really wish I didn't have to think about what to wear. I have a few outfits I recycle often, but maybe I'd like to simplify a little more
Notes about this video:
OMG! I love what you do after completing the challenge! Such a good idea! So inspiring!
This worked for me when I was in elementary and middle school. I'd arrange my outfits every Saturday after doing the laundry.
You picked a very chic outfit. It looks great on you. I think you could have the same pants and just do the top in 5 different colors and it’s be the same result - no thinking
That’s my uniform for Autumn/Winter. I have identical tops in different colors. I love to keep things simple.
I share your point of view ❤
In order to save time I just prepare my outfit the night before, and it can be declined with slight variations (belted vs loose for exemple) so that I wear the same outfit thrice in a row but it’s not obvious 😊
For me, it's actually the other way around - to many colors sometimes disturbs me a bit 😅
Thank you for another great video!!
I think the universe would collapse if it didn't see me dressed like a parrot for even a week 😂
hahaha, I feel like I need to see evidence of these colourful parrot outfits 🤩
You could always wear the parrot outfit for 100 days. You don’t have to wear black, right? 😃
I have a friend who is like that - even down to her hair.
Love this comment
I can say that I personally never noticed the wardrobe change. There're usually a couple of days/weeks between uploads, so by the time I see you again, I've pretty much forgotten what you were wearing in your last video, let alone 2-3 videos ago. For someone who binged your content after a long hiatus, they probably noticed the span of videos where you were wearing all black and this video probably helped them realize that they weren't going insane 😂
Your videos are self-care for me. Thank you for being such a lovely addition in my world.
My husband found 17 of the same tee at the thrift store. He loved the fit, so he bought them and has been wearing them every day for over two years. No one has ever noticed. I would love to do a similar experiment. I just haven't found an outfit or item that I love enough to wear every single day.
its amazing that no one ever noticed! inspiring even!
It's crazy how people don't notice that on a man. But on a woman, they will definitely notice and judge you and look down at you unfortunately
This is hilarious!!!
This happens to me and my mum often 😂
Black object - is that a cat??
We had a black cat and my husband has a black memory foam neck travel pillow - when he leaves it on the couch it reminds me of our cat curled round 😢
😂😂 Love it
Charlie: "Well, of course black coat is best! Everyone knows that!"
As I get older, comfort in what I wear definitely gets more important.
Personallity can be shown with accesories. (Gold, Silver, Lapis Lazuli, Grenade, Jade... Wood, Plastic, Shapes...)
@@DarkTrapStudio yeah but black is boring. It's OK for the french, but the rest of us like colour. Done this in blue. And red. Next will be pink. So easy in the morning.
@@zamar2158 You don't know French People at all, and where are you From ?
Of course, this isn't new and often culturally bound; still, it's interesting to think about and perhaps will give us more freedom (?)
Thanks again for another great video!
Love the black uniform! And your videos! The black looks great on camera and very professional. The cat hair is an elegant accessory.
Oh, the cat hair part is everything to me.
What’s about the pulls in my trousers where Charlie paws at my lap??? 😍
You look really smart in your black outfit! 👍 Love this idea. I don't think I'd go so minimalist of one outfit but definitely inspired me to just have a few basics for work. Thanks for sharing your experience. 😊
I kind of do this, I wear dark muted (blacks, greys) colours on a daily basis, the purpose basically to not stand out in the crowd.
I pretty much do this every day for the last couple years. The wardrobe parts are the same, shorts, T-shirt, underwear. But that’s it. The shorts are mostly all black, I do have different colored T-shirts, but I wouldn’t mind. All black and underwear is black. I’m happy.
I'm a bit envious your 'uniform' consists of shorts - that means warm weather?
@@LauraTryUK I live in Northern Jersey(aka NJ) and if the temps hit 50º and above...I'm in my shorts.
I can feel that!!!
Well done
I have noticed ill have memories pop up on social media and I tend to be wearing the same outfit on the same day years apart.
That is so interesting! 😄🤓
Oh shoot I commented before you mentioned you’re already working towards a capsule wardrobe, my mistake lol
Love you Laura ❤ and I appreciate your content!
I've been wearing the same thing for months 🥲
It's hot where I live and no ac in the car.
No biggy. I do that all the time. My fav comfy jeans and jumper 😂
(LOL)
On that - I can't say I really noticed your all-black phase.
I love your 'uniform' especially all the different colours you have! It really suits you and makes me want to do the same!
You look very smart in that black outfit Your personality comes through in your smile, your twinkling eye, and your voice
I’ve been thinking about a WFH uniform for a few weeks, your video has convinced me to give it a go!! Thank you ❤
At a previous job I cycled to work, the ride wasn't strenuous so I didn't need a dedicated outfit, so I just wore my work clothes.
Love this! I used to live in black, and switched to colour, but I’m being drawn back to black for the convenience! Really enjoyed your observations.
Ha I’ve been waiting for this, LT … I was right about you planning a capsule wardrobe! 😂
As you know, I love the outfits 😉 They look so together on you and not sombre at all. Love the brooches additions, and that you had compliments too. The different colours in the same style are a great idea. I tend to only wear two colours or my mind feels cluttered. I do have some patterned items, and love a scandi jumper. Most of my wardrobe is black, and thanks to you, soon to be blacker! x🖤x
Yippee Anni! I am so pumped about our arrangement 👏🏼
The 100 Day Outfits lives on!
What a great and very interesting video! Your personality shines through whatever you’re wearing! I really do like the concept of a work uniform. 🖤
Just checked out the clothes...WOW, they are so reasonably priced! Thanks for the link and code.
Always lovely to see a new video from you, LT. You're one of my favorite UA-cam-rs. 💛
And I always enjoy seeing cameos from Charlie.
Lol
Another brilliant video - well done! God bless, love Rachel
Great video!!! Love it.... and your 100 day outfit uniform really suits you... you look happy
Those Halara pants are the best! I was reluctant to try them but now I have a few pairs and rotate them for work. So easy and comfortable
You did what I was going to suggest--buy the same pieces in a range of colors. I love that idea.
I honestly didn't notice the black in your other videos Laura - another great video, thanks❤
Am I tempted to try.....absolutely. I love clothes but I also love space in my head❤
Thank you for sharing
Also: you looked really stylish and professional and pretty in black aswell as the colors I think 🙂
I have a few outfits I recycle often, but maybe I'd like to simplify a little more
Really interesting video. Well done for sticking at it.
