But there are some Sleeptoken fans that are insanely fucking weird, creepy and perverse and take things overboard. When joining the ST discord server the first rule is to not sexualise the band members because they’re sick and tired of it.

As a person who never looked into who Sleep Token actually were and really got into the lore aspect, that would crush me if they unmasked because some messed up fans decided to be felons and just dox band members’ addresses, like how screwed up in the head do you have to be to think that’s okay… granted I’ll still listen to the band, but these people have genuinely crossed the line in terms of respecting these guys’ rights to privacy and I hope the band goes after whoever did this
I hope that the bass player at least takes action against the person cause there's a good chance he's gonna have to move too a new address now cause of this psycho

I'm comfy in my "I don't need to see their faces or know their names" corner. I love a good gimmick and I love it when bands commit to it. I do hope they won't unmask, but mostly I hope they'll figure out a way around this and keep producing amazing music 💜

My guess about the social media situation is that theyre probably entering a new "era" of music especially with all the new masks and outfits recently. "Nothing lasts forever" and the tweet linking the ascensionism mv could maybe mean they're ascending to a new phase? It would make sense from their lore if they unmask. Their last album of the trilogy has been released, their last song of their last album has the mask ripped off, and its a send off song to their entire trilogy.
I could see it being a deliberate, calculated choice to create biz, coz these dudes are so clever and EVERYTHING they do is so well thought out.
And if that's the case, and it wasn't done psycho fan, but a choice they made, then cool.
In all likelihood though it was some deranged fan, in which case, not freaking cool.
Like damn, just let artists make art in the way they want to.
And it's not like people didn't know before. You could find their names of you did a little digging and really wanted to.

Firmly in the "don't care who they are under the mask" camp.
These guys are passionate, skilled, and wildly clever and thats all I need to know. Their music speaks for them.
For real the not knowing who they are under the mask for me is just a bonus if they came out showing their faces now I still will listen to them.

I worked at a big bank a few years back and we had a bunch of large profile celebrities and politicians etc as customers. As a customer service rep as long as we knew their name we could access all of their info, address, ID, phone numbers etc. There were obviously strict rules and laws around it, but it would just take one obsessive fan working in the right place to doxx someone easily. I knew a few people who just used to just look up famous people for fun to see if they came up in our system, the boss asked about it and they stopped but realistically there was nothing stopping them just posting it all online if they wanted to

Regarding them fully getting rid of their masks, I don't think they'll do it. Tl;dr - the mystery is what pulls people in and makes the band stand out.
1. The whole narrative point of Sleep Token is shedding personal identity and creating for the sake of art and for the glory of Sleep. Getting rid of the masks would basically mean they would also get rid of their entire narrative, which is part of the allure. Idk if you know of Heilung, but it's comparable to if Heilung started performing in just casual clothes, completely invalidates the main point of the performance.
2. The masks (especially Vessel's mask) are super iconic. Without them they would become just another band, slotting nicely between Loathe or Bad Omens with some spice added.
3. There's still many people who respect Vessel's wish for their identities to not be publicly distributed. As much as we love to hate on metal news outlets, even they have been pretty good about not spreading the information which (as Nik says) is already out there. I think it's really cool that after a year of Sleep Token's immense popularity most of the fans and community can still be respectful and not make a huge deal out of revealing their identities. I do not know their names and I don't intend to, it makes the narrative experience of listening to the band's music so much more special to me.
If they're judt another band without their maks that's not great for them. I loke their music. I don't find them to be just another band per se. It'd not.loke I see their masks from Spotify.

Missing the point of the “you ruined it for us” it was more about the band retracting their social media and possibly causing them to second guess tours and the timeline of releasing new material.

Something a bit strange, "Nothing lasts forever" showed up on a poster and shirt for sale on the Sleep Token store a month or 2 before Eden was announced and was in the same style as the new artwork. It was up for only a couple of hours and taken down, never to be seen again. I thought maybe it was the original name of the album but it was changed? Always some weird stuff with these guys, love it :D

A birth certificate isn’t classed as private info in the UK, if you have enough info about the person you can purchase a copy of a birth certificate from the council.

You need to, at least, provide your full name (all your names), date and place of birth. In some countries you even have to prove your identity by sending your identity card or filling an administrative form. Anyway, it's not easy to get a birth certificate.

The thing with slipknot is that 3 of the 9 members were in bands outside of slipknot, then for Vol.3 the all did interviews unmasked for the dvd. It was a gradual process for them

Refused weren’t big when they broke up. They released ‘shape’ and no one cared. They played a basement show to 40 people and was cut off from cops and then called it quits. Only afterward people realised how amazing that record was and started to give the props they deserved.
Man they have come too far to go unmasked due to someone that ruined what they wished to keep private. You cant bend the knee to someone who cheap-shotted you. I wish them the best. Messed up.
I've been a fan of vessel since he went by a different name, I know his real name and everything and that changes nothing. His old music is just as unique and appealing as Sleep Token.
