Tech With Brett Hi Brett , just wondering mate , do you think there are more apps that open up full screen with the s9 variants and the more modern dex ?
i have the older Dex used via my S8+ which i have been using as my home computer for quite a while now since my pc bit the dust , ( probably close to a year , and while its is pretty good , there are some apps that wont go full screen natively .
but i have found a lot of time for apps like netflix , if i open up chrome and go to netflix from the web and log in with my password ..... hey presto full screen mode .
i have found you can do work arounds for a lot of apps , but it would be nice if you could just natively click on the icon in your apps draw and go full screen instantly ..... hence my question ...

One thing i do like about the dex as opposed to the home computer/pc , i come home of night , drop my phone in the dex , i use the pattern to unlock the screen which is very fast which all in all takes about 10 or 15 seconds to be up and running .
Also , anything you do during the day taking photos or video , it is already on your phone and now on your wide screen monitor ready to go , no transferring of stuff to your pc ,
its actually pretty convenient .
i do most of the stuff via my dex/galaxy that i used to on my pc , although occasionally there are some compromises like the odd app that wont go full screen .
i dont render any sci fi movies or anything overly difficult that a hi powered pc might do , but general stuff , watching the odd movie , looking at tubes , emails , surfing the net , shopping ,
talking on the phone via the dex is pretty cool .
i have also found that sometimes swapping between chrome and samsungs browser can be of benefit , both have different features , and sometimes using sammy`s browser works better for other features ..
you mentioned the fan in the new dex , i dont know if you where just pointing it out or was not aware , but the older model also has a fan , it only comes on periodically and is very quiet .
i have found even after hours of use my phone when using the old dex , it only gets warm and probably would actually get away without the fan anyway i think , good its there though .

I have the DeX station and it is really cool. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse and bluetooth speaker as well as a flash drive connected to the 2nd USB. Its a quick and easy way to get a better viewing experience for chat and email while charging your phone. It doesn't replace a PC for everything but for a lot of stuff it was pretty cool.
There is another cool feature with this device. My wife's S8 lost touch but since I had it on the Dex before I was able to get into her phone and move some stuff off of it without issue.
In about 4 years from now, Apple will "invent" something just like this.

Why would Apple even need this in the first place? They have Mac OS after all.
I'm willing to bet it will have 2 USB-C ports, not really charge your phone, and run a very cut down interface.

Really love your videos and appreciate the effort that goes into making them so informative and such high quality. Just a note to say that I was watching this on the big screen and hifi, and found the "woosh" sound-effect when bringing in a user's comment (eg at 13:17) had a very heavy bass component that confused me into thinking there was something going on outside the house! It is probably counter-productive to mix it in, but at least next time I won't be caught out 8-)

Kiki Anas Ahmad it is amazing. I have a MacBook but I don’t have a desktop computer. I have an old HD TV that I don’t use anymore. I bought a keyboard and a mouse for £17. I got the DeX station as a pre order with my note 8. So basically I now have a desktop for £17. I’m not a heavy user so would not bother buying a PC. But for me this is a good solution.

I know im really late with this Brett, But i noticed that the Galaxy S8 and S9 have AMOLED screens. If I were to use the DeX Pad without a mouse and a keyboard....for an extensive period of time, will that crosshair in a box grid for the touchpad eventually burn in? I heard many people complain about eventual screen burn in with AMOLED phones

When choosing the screen resolution, did you try putting the phone into high performance mode? I know the default setting for the phone is "optimized" which limits the screen resolution to FHD to balance battery life with performance.

I really like your videos. You explain very well in details and use easy words that I can understand very quickly. Now, come to my questions. I'm using Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and I would like to whether I can connect my phone to the Dex pad and use it WITHOUT external mouse and keyboard. Another question is that: is it able to connect with a laptop? Or it can only connect to TV screen. Last question, is it able to connect with the old screen which does not have HDMI porter but VGA by using external adapter (VGA to HDMI)? Thanks in advance.

Hey Brett, great vid, first time viewer. During your use of the Dex, how would you say the fan worked to cool down the battery? Also did the Dex heat up as well?
I could tell that as I started to open up more applications on screen it would automatically turn on and when it did not need to work as hard it slowed down. I'm not sure on exactly what is monitoring it. I am really glad that fan is there.
I have question. How you have connected the samsung dex with the TV. Is it with logitech or with a kable? I haven't understood it.

Does your device heat up alot when it is on Dex mode? How effective was the fan on the dex pad?

Do you find the connector on the pad a bit flimsy and loose? Mine seems to me that will break off and can defiintely bend.

So its true that S9/S9+ should use dex pad. Because i have an issue using dex station with my unifiying logitech k400+. It work on and off the first i use it. It connect fine and then soon the touchpad on my phone turn on. The wireless logitech i have no longer working.

Great video, I don't have a need for Dex yet as I connect my phone to my windows gaming laptop for a side window mirroring. I could see people living in small apartments taking advantage of Dex or if I had a monitor in the kitchen. I'm curious how Tradingview.com would edit within the mobile browser or it it would be as close to the Chromebook pixel.

Is your phone in quad hd resolution? Make sure it's selected in your display settings. That said, I'm glad I waited on the Dex, this one looks awesome!
RazoE Dex pad resolution output and phone screen resolution output are totally separate.

In order to get full 4K capturing you'll need a native 4K capture device like the elgato 4k.

Brett: What is the nomenclature for the cable that connects between the Dex hub, and my central hub, for power? and 2), I have a VGA monitor connrcted to my laptop. Is there a way to use that same monitor to hook into the Dex hub for full function , as well as for my laptop PC? (some kind of "Y" connector)
Nope. You can get a converter for HDMI to VGA but you loose some of the HDR and digital features HDMI has. Dex does not support dual display output, So you can only plug in 1 extra display to it.
But if you wish to use your laptop. You can plug into a USB 3.0 or C gen 1 or 2 for displaying on your laptop as a optional Window mode (downloading the windows samsung dex app from samsung.), or throw it to cast onto a different display. This will let you flow from Dex to Windows with ease and use your internal keyboard/mouse systems, Vs having to use external keyboard/mouse for dex alone.

Just wondering what the Google suite experience is like (Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets) and how does that compare to the Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) installed on Samsung devices? How does it work for writing long documents or even creating a presentation (does the phone handle animations during a presentation well)?

Hi Brett. I think you said it will not edit videos. However I have seen MRP edit videos using Power Director on his Dex. Does the Samsung Movie Maker work on Dex?
I may need to try again but when I tried Power Director with the Note 8 it did not work at all. Samsung Movie make is no longer available on the S9 from what I could find. Google Photos new movie maker may work but you just won't be able to edit like Adobe Premiere.

This is so cool. I have the Samsung s10, a macbook, and an iPad Pro 2018 and I’m desperately trying to find a use for Dex but haven’t found one yet.
Just get rid of some of your devices and then maybe you can. There is actually a Mac OS program now that will let you use DeX on you Macbook. This might be really useful to keep using your phone on your computer without switching back and forth. www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/samsung-dex/
I have just a simple USB-C extender(I bought it for iPad, it's "Satechi") that can be used with a PC for example. When I plug it in, it goes into DeX mode - everything works just fine, even without it being charged(you can plug the charger into the extender, to charge the phone).
I start a game with it, full screen, on a 27" monitor :)

Yes you can. you just need to prop up the device but audio and video will work through the phone like normal.
