At the moment, here in Australia the Station is more than the Samsung Pad which I found weird (being the generation difference). Contemplating buying one second hand just to keep attached with my TV so I can keep it charging and use my Foxtel app (pay TV). Hopefully it works!
one who already has access to office 365 on the phone can sync the files and get it on the Office 365 Desktop version, these days one can pretty much sync everything and get it same time on the PC using internet, for everything else there is media server on phone to sync it to the home network, the only extra thing dex pad/dock gives is the calling and messaging feature.

I use to have at hand a Microsoft Studio Keyboard and Mouse (Bluetooth) and i also have an Azure Virtual Machine which i can access by using Remote desktop. I don't even have to carry around my laptop anymore!

Would the pad support 3440x1440 on my 34" monitor, it seems only 2560x1440 in the spec sheet...
Aesthetically, I prefer the station and the propped up look of the phone on the desk, but being able to use the phone as a touchpad is cool. I think over time I'd end up going back to a mouse though.

I'm looking into this because I don't have a need for a laptop but every once in a while I need the laptop/desktop experience and this could be a solution for me. I don't need anything all that powerful. So this may be what I need.
Emulators + Steam Link + Dex Station (for Ethernet) = ultimate 2nd gaming set up. Right now I use my laptop with HDMI to do this. 14inch laptop to a little Samsung puck with my phone I always have anyway.
Now if controllers over Bluetooth would work better... You'd need a USB hub for 4 player if using wired controllers

Man this is a pc & a phone. How can it get better. I'm a tech guy also. The dex is very fluent. I do agree that if you need all of that then the answer is a note 8 with a dex. Its a phone , waterproof , unbelievable piece of technology. The dex is just amazing. I will say yhat you gotta be a pc nerd like me to love this stuff so much. Well stay blessed & great review!!!

Yes you are right you don't have anymore the ethernet port but you gain the headphone jack on the new one and for me what is better to sacrifice the internet Port or the headphone jack well for me I prefer to sacrifice the internet Port because I can listen to my music with the headphone jack doing work video editing and also if I really want the ethernet port I can buy a dongle for £5 and connected to USB anyway good video and the price for the new one now at this moment writing in this video it's exactly £35 I'll buy straight away
Try the Lumia Dock as well, it might work for DeX too, and it seems like a much better built quality device.
There are some benefits for using Samsung native accessories in terms of screen resolution.

Hi! That's my question as well. plus I'm asking your thoughts on Android's New *Pie* Version. Hearing the new Anroid 9.0 (Pie) with some kind of UXone will allow *Dex* to activate on any big monitor by simply hooking up an HDMI Cable. If that's true, then Dex *Station* and DEX *Pad* just went obsolete!

The dex only supports 2560x1440 but my 65 inch TV is 1920x1080p.

The thing that causes me the most concern is, do the phones still fit with cases around them, particularly the official Samsung cases and especially the clear view cover. Since they raise the position of the USB port. I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere on the internet, though I have found a video that demonstrates that not all cases work with the 2017 Dex pad. I wonder if the same goes for the 2018 Dex pad (it "looks" like you can adjust the height of the USB that plugs into the phone, which sounds like a solution, but I'm not sure).
I'm wondering because I plan on getting a Note 9 with the original clear view cover, but that cover in particular seems quite 'fat', which might cause a problem. I'm pretty sure it won't work with the 2017 one but I'm not sure about the one from 2018.
Kalder If you have either the Note 9 or Note 10 or Note 10+, you will be glad to know that neither the station or the pad are needed. You can plug in your HDMI to USB-C cord directly into your Note and any HDMI monitor or TV.
Love my Dex Station for note 8 but my new S10+ works fine in it but causes the screen to flicker like crazy..any help is very much appreciated.

Dex Pad gives you a full access for phone to become a mouse and a keyboard, but station does not, so you have to bring your own keyboard and a mouse, am I right?

Hey I have some issues with the old Dex. First of all, my monitor is 4k, and when I select 1440p resolution the size of the task bar changes and makes it smaller. Also, in Chrome i cannot see any video in fullscreen, even UA-cam videos. Please help me!!
Hi try going to the screen settings, and change the input method from HDMI to PC. Hope it works!
I ran into 1 of these issues . If you want to watch something like Netflix hulu or Amazon through dex pad than use mirror screen mode, other wise most software is not optimized to run like Microsoft or adobe.
They come up as those small windows that you can't expand on the whole screen.
Guys, download an app called Dex Max from the Play Store, it modifies apps to run full screen, even Netflix! Look it up!

I got a couple things to say... First of all, my laptop SUCKS! It is an older Dell dual core laptop and is slow as HELL... Secondly... I am a photographer/videographer and being able to take my footage straight from my phone and plug it into the DeX dock and edit via photoshop or lightroom is PRICELESS! If you are a photographer or vlogger then Samsung DeX is DEFINITELY for YOU... I use this thing ALL the time. Being able to pull up a 12 MP image and blow it up on a 42" HDTV calibrated to isf standards with 10 point ire is remarkable! Editing directly on tue phone CAN be done yes, but it is not very accurate nor efficient. Using a large monitor or even BETTER a big screen HDTV just makes a WORLD of difference! As the market for DeX expands, we will see some awesome things rolling out on DeX! I am excited for it...

@@shawnbrooks12 I use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. I also use a video conversion tool and a separate compression application I forgot the name of... Most of the editing I do is light as I like to keep the captures as close to 100% natural as possible. This means I try to avoid filters or special effects(unless a customer is looking for a specific effect). I am actually working on a string of special effects which include a 240 fps to 960 fps slow motion cinematic for a pyrotechnics company. I love photography! You have the opportunity to capture a moment in time which will never again be experienced.

I know this is a video about the differences between the DeX pad and the original dex. But if you Need it some laptop functionalities, for less than the price of a actual laptop then it is perfect for you. For example, I Not a college student anymore but I needed to type up a resume in this including some Bluetooth gadgets like a A keyboard and a mouse was perfect. Compared to a laptop it is very inexpensive tool to use. It is also very convenient and Multi functional.. The Samsung Dex basically Is an inexpensive laptop. I love it. It may not be for everybody but it's definitely a convenience. Absolutely worth Buying
The original Dex, you could use it for video chat since it was propped up. The Dex Pad, gives room for headphone jack. o.O

i think Dex pad supports more then 1080p and station only supports 1080p but the pad is better in my opinion since i would be using data or Wi-Fi not Lan and i enjoy both models but i think the pad would be more portable and for being flat i can mount it behind my monitor for a laptop type camera games are almost useless on Dex but vr and Dex desktop are great use for anyone wanting a chrome book like experience and a alright vr experience
a bit outdated for today i would say but you could always use it for an old tv and convert it to a smart tv and android streaming device

Yea you can. The DeX station doesnt load a different software on your phone. The software is already on your phone so you can use your phone as a mouse with any DeX station

Unused my Samsung Dex Station as a retro gaming console
It's a deal breaker for me. When WiFi is not strong enough, and data rates are slow, it will suck. If I had eathernet then I wouldn't have to worry about transfer rates since I'm on a direct line. Dex station for me.
Smart choice
The biggest difference with the pad is using it with a stylus to draw.
I'm lazy... I don't want to pull my 15" laptop out of my backpack and hook it up to my docking station and 24" monitor. But if I could plug my phone into its charger AND get a functional desktop PC for browsing UA-cam, watching movies, responding to emails, etc... SWEET! This is perfect for when I come home from work exhausted and plop down in my office chair, having dropped my bag in the kitchen. Just pull my phone out and voila! No need to move another 20 feet and expend so much extra effort!

You can play any games on dex that's on your phone but I'm not sure about how it will control
