I'm glad I'm able to help somehow. I don't get it right every single time, as I mostly practice it while driving it on the street. But when you get to the track and the amount of pressure you put on the brakes is so much more you need to figure out quickly how much pressure to put on the gas pedal. I wish I had more track time to practice that too. Thanks for your comment!
nice vid. thanks for recording footwork - thats my next venture / learning. also nice to see run times of other cars vs myself. Maybe see you at RA next year.
Maybe my favorite car video. I'm been looking for a track report on a Challenger Scatpack. As a 2020 A8 owner myself.... That auto shifts so fast. The first time I got deep into it I heard Haaa he haaa he haaa, oh my God! Sounds like clutchless shifting. Can't wait to get it on the track.
Yeah, long gone are the days when a manual transmission car would outperform an automatic transmission car. And you also got to left-foot brake the whole track, which will probably allow you go even faster. Thanks for your comment! Now get out there, drive safe and have fun!!
Wow! I head a sound recorder mounted on the rear bumper. Despite some dirt it did just fine. I guess there's not much wind to cool down a camera in that spot.
Great video and great driving! I’m wondering if you have any experience with pre facelift SRT8 392 6Speed? Cause I used to track mine but to be honest I hate the feeling of the transmission and pretty difficult to do heel and toe, compared to my C5 corvette, but still the challenger is one of my favorite car, and I’m thinking to buy a wide body scatpack after sold my C5, I still want the manual but with the experience of my 2012, I’m serious considering to go with automatic now, so I want to hear some of you opinion, it’s hard to find someone that really track the challenger.
Thanks!! No, so far I've only driven post-facelift Challengers. I've heard people saying there's not enough room for the "heel part" of the heel-and-toe in Challengers. Not sure of that's a shoe size thing though (mine is 10 and I don't have issues at all). I don't know man, automatics might be faster nowadays, shift faster and blah-blah-blah, but the feeling of getting the downshift right is so rewarding that I have zero interest in automatics, and I'm totally fine with being a second or two slower on track if that's the trade-off. I've also read about the Barton shifter, and I'd love to try one. They say it's a night-and-day difference and that's totally worth it. I might give that a try one day, even though I'm pretty happy with the stock shifter. The Scat Pack Widebody seems to be the sweet spot in terms performance and cost. I haven't driven a Hellcat yet, but if so far my Scat Pack is the best car I've ever owned!
@@1driver2slow4racing I’m totally with you on manual transmission! I have a slightly bigger foot, 12-13 depending on what kind of shoes. And I heard about the Barton Shifter too, but my car come with Hurst Shifter, I don’t hate it but not a big fan also. I was seriously thinking get a Barton but the car got totaled because of hail storm. But anyway, thanks for the information. And after I hearing the challenger will out of production at 2024, I think there’s not much time left for me to grab one.
That's good track day etiquette. You take the foot off the throttle for someone to pass you safely. I'm sure he was thankful for that. Regardless, they're in different classes. The Porsche would always be faster.
Nice video, I'm impressed by the widebody I was not expecting it to have this much of an improvement over the standard body. I was wondering if maybe I'd be able to get similar results to the widebody by properly fitting a 295 square setup and doing some suspension tweaks to the standard body. Should I do that or just go with the widebody option?
Thanks! Yeah, I think if you can manage the 295 that would be great. I've seen a video here on UA-cam of a guy fitting 305s, and he swears there was no rubbing. But with 295 and sways bars and/or strut tower braces I think you can get even better handling at the track than with a stock widebody. Make sure you grab some nice tires too, treadwear 300 or lower. Mine came with all-season Pirellis and even chewing gum has more grip than those. That's what I had in this video (the Pirellis, not the chewing gum :-) But check out my latest video, in which I keep up with the Corvette C8 on this same track. I had tires and brake upgrades. The Firehawk Indy 500s were a decent upgrade, but the Hawk DTC-70 pads at the front and DTC-60 at the rear along with Motul 660 were night and day. About 9 sec faster lap times! Whichever way you decide to go, I'd love to know about it. Good luck!
@@1driver2slow4racing Hey, Sorry for the late response but I finally got a game plan! I'm planning to upgrade to 285s with a good compound and tread pattern and fit them on the 9.5 inch rims instead of the 295s since the 295s may have issues with rubbing on the upper control arm stud according to someone on a forum who has made the same upgrade that I was planning to do in the first place, I am also going to add a good quality aftermarket sway bar as well to help with some of the body roll. I love the widebody but It just seems more practical and beneficial for me to stick with the standard body where I live as its cheaper and easier to maintain in the long run. My goal is to get the car to the point where I do not fear for my life whenever I apply throttle when exiting a turn, once I get it to at least that point, ill be happy.. even if it doesn't perform as well as a stock widebody. I watched your video on keeping up with the C8 and I noticed how well the car was keeping up with that C8, It's truly amazing how upgrades like that can really make this car perform better than what is perceived as possible, it gives me hope for what is possible with small upgrades in the future. Again thank you for your response and I wish the best of luck to you, Ill make sure I tune in and check new videos often! =) EDIT: I will be going straight to the 295s, there should be no issues with rubbing on the 9.5" rims.
@@soda_can6262 That's awesome! Thanks for all the details. The sway bars are relatively cheaper and somewhat easier to improve the handling. One thing I forgot to mention is that when I had the "regular" R/T I got the "Mopar Suspension Lowering Kit" (P5155436) and that definitely made a difference. But the car still had the stock 245 tires, so autocrossing went from feeling like driving on ice to like driving on dirt :-) Good luck with all the mods. I hope everything works out and you feel very happy with the results! And I'd love to see pictures and/or videos ;-)
It was an "oops" moment :-) I was going to break with the left foot and then I realized (soon enough, thankfully) that I was supposed to heel-and-toe so I could downshift.
Thanks, but I love the Challenger. I'm not competing with anyone other than myself. So as long as I'm having fun I don't feel bad for not being the fastest. I've actually got a 2023 6-speed Hellcat, so it'll be faster, but I'm yet to take it to the track.
At the time of this video I think it was all stock, or maybe I had already replaced the horrible all season Pirellis with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, in stock sizes (305 35 R20 square). Afterwards I installed the Hawks break pads, DTC 70 on the front and DTC 60 on the rear, with Motul 660 as the brake fluid.
25 min and we never get to see the car. How about next time do a bit of a walk around telling us about your car maybe pointing out the various features ect. Then show us a few laps, but 25 mins lap after lap ?? I get the point after the first few. But, nice driving!
Yeah, I hear you. I might do that next time. I guess I'm not really a great speaker, and the car is all stock. Nothing fancy. And, yes, lap after lap after lap might be boring, so I tried to change angles from time to time for a different view. I appreciate your feedback and will try to make it better next time. Thanks!
Well, I didn't see that written anywhere in the owner's manual :-) Actually, I'd take any car (as long as it's not a Minivan, SUV or truck) to the track. Long live the naturally-aspirated engine!
Amen!
Great video.. no music or unnecessary chatter. Just the roar of the engine and you working the machine around the course. Subscribed!
Thank you! Yeah, the engine says it all ;-)
Intoxicating sound. I could actually feel the car like I was riding in it.
It's pretty much like a symphony playing :-) Long live the V8 engine!
Love the view of the footwork, it’s helping me learn how to rev match more effectively

Thanks! Yeah, video helps a lot. You can always catch mistakes and figure out ways to improve driving techniques. Hoping to see you there too!
Beautiful sound 😍 music to my ears
Pretty much a symphonic orchestra playing :-)
Great video in every way! Really made it feel like you are the driver!
Thank you!! I'm glad you like it :-)
those downshifts sound amazing
Yeah, they do! And it's even more satisfying when we get them just right, isn't it? At those speeds they're still a work in progress for me.
Lol that footwork on point 👉 love it 😀
Great manual driving, can't wait to get my 2020 R/T Scat Pack 50th on a track too.
Thanks! The 50ths are beautiful, congrats for owning one. You'll have so much fun with it, I guarantee!!
I thought I was watching Bullitt just from the sound!

They seem a lot faster when the speedo is reading KPH
Yup. I wish the speed would go up that quick in MPH 🙂
I liked the camera views. I tried mounting a Go Pro on my rear tow hook last year at Road America. The camera overheated.
Wow! I head a sound recorder mounted on the rear bumper. Despite some dirt it did just fine. I guess there's not much wind to cool down a camera in that spot.
Yeh, I was pretty bummed.
Great pedal work also forgot to mention
i love it
I used to live right down the road in Plymouth!
That must have been awesome!
Love it

You did pretty good, nice foot work. Remember, not everybody was born a race car driver.
Thank you very much!! Yeah, I don't think I'm one of them though, but I try to have some fun :-)
I’d shorten that clutch travel for sure and those… plural ZL1s straight embarrassed you I’m looking at them and corvettes right now might jump into 1

Yup
