The uv -chrome is my go to lure in lakes with shad . The real trick to make these lures work extra good is a very very small stick-on eyeball. A small black dot from a felt pen also works in a pinch. This is a shad pattern lure so make it look like one. Thanks Cal for the video and I'll see you at the ISE .
Cal I'm looking into getting a fishing Kayak. Can you make a vid on what to look for and what to avoid? What why you got yours and maybe what you would have done differently.
Well I like to run them on fluorocarbon...8 to 10 pound for best results they either need to be attached to the leader via a loop know (pain to tie) or a tiny lock snap...not a snap swivel...Just the snap.....Thanks Lucas!! Cal
@@lucasjedwards Yep....Main line I typically have a bead, followed by a trolling swivel and then 48 inches of leader tipped with the lock snap and then the spoon....If I'm going to run a dodger, I attach it directly to that trolling swivel and then run a leader off the back of it....I think 10 lb is a good place to be for most spoons unless they are tiny like a Dick Nite....That's where I drop down to 8....
Thanks for such a great video and for the well explained information. I own a few of those clippelures, but to be honest I haven't used them that often. After I watched your video and hearing your tips is time to give them the try. I also own a hobie mirage pro angler kayak and troll for trout and kokanee at Shaver and Huntington lakes. Do you troll them behind a dodger?. How far apart?. Thanks a lot Cal.
Yep...You certainly can...When using a spoon that has action...I like to have 24 to 36 inches between the blade and the lure....I'll have a video speaking about dodgers, dodger sizes and colors coming out at 6 o'clock Wednesday morning.....Thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel....
@@inmotion81 Right on....I actually had a double hook up on mine the other day....I'd slowed down to like 1 mph to net a fish...and that's when the second one hit...Of course they were biting....LOL
Been catching a bunch of 2-3 pound cutthroat on them and my wife just slayed a 3.5 pound Kokanee on one. Always a go to lure. A must have for anyone who likes catching big trout. Gary is a genius!
Gary is the man!....Early on he taught me a lot about trolling especially big lake trolling...He was headquartered up on Lake Shasta and I used to fish the big lake with him as often as I could.....What state are you located in....? People here in California would faint if they got a 3 pound kokanee..LOL
@@FHSTackle we are up in Western Washington. 3 pound Kokanee are more common in eastern Washington but I seem to get a few every year. Big trout are almost as fun as salmon fishing. I would like to see a 3-4 inch cripple for Chinook and coho. I haven't fished anywhere in California yet but would love to fish lake Shasta.
Different water clarity an different water temps Dictates how much light gets through the different depths ,
I agree

You've got it....That's and upcoming video....I can tell you that kayak fishing is absolutely deadly and I'd love to make a video like that!
What's the best way to rig them for trolling? Line type, # test, type of swivel, knots etc.

How long of a leader and I assume a swivel from the leader to the main line to prevent line twist?

Do you tip the end with anything like a piece of worm or piece of corn or do you just run it plane
Just run it plain and hang on!
Thanks I really get a lot of helpful tips from your shows I fish up in Washington
Good Content!
How fast do you troll the criplure?
I guess I should have waited for the video to end before I asked. 2-2.5 mph
Well my target range is 2 to 2.5 mph...I've caught fish on them faster and slower, but that range is the sweet spot for me....
@@inmotion81 Right on....I actually had a double hook up on mine the other day....I'd slowed down to like 1 mph to net a fish...and that's when the second one hit...Of course they were biting....LOL
Is the cripplure only available in one size? 1/4oz?
Yes...That's it one size and it's about 2 inches long....
15 feet deep or 15 feet of line out behind your boat?
can`t you use a Bigger Super duper and get the same reaction????I ask because it looks like one .
Probably, but I've always used those in streams....At the end of the day, confidence in the lure means a lot!....

@@iwrenchbluecollar7498 Yes....I told Gary for years....3 inch Cripplures for big trout and ocean salmon.....Booooom!
