I think my childhood self was psychic.I'd actually wrote a little short story about a cat named piggy Potts and a dog name doggie dots... And they were the best of friends. What are cute friendship these two have in real life
Pig and other cats like Dog because he is absolutely unreactive, undemanding, unpushy, absolutely SAFE because he's not approaching them FOR anything at all. So they have an absolutely blank slate to be themselves with Dog. People who do a lot to try to befriend kitties could learn a lot from Dog. He doesn't even look at them (which can be preceived as a threat). Good Dog. Good Kitties. Happy Kitties. Thanks for taking everybody in!
@@DawnieG I'm sure your cat loves you in his/her own way. What is their body language around you? Watch for lashy tails, pinned ears and like narrowed eyes. Cats do actually have a lot of body signals and expressions, but a lot of people don't take the time to look for them, and then they get scratched or bit. Jackson Galaxy vids on 'My cat from hell' really helped me figure stuff out. It's subtle, tho. If the cat's ears are spread like a smiley face, and the eyes look sleepy they're actually happy.
This story is cool because usually you hear about someone who has always had dogs and they happen to find themselves with a cat and fall in love with it, it's much rarer to hear the opposite.
And then there is me. I have always been around cats since I can remember and now currently take care of a colony of outdoor cats. People have me pegged as "the cat lady", but in reality I love dogs as well and turn into a big old mush around them. If I could bring a few dogs into my home, I would. As long as they are cat friendly, they're in the club. More too love. 🥰
@annbee4494 I have always had difficulty relating to people, especially strangers and I tend to avoid them if I can (not out of snobbery, I don't know how to behave and I feel uncomfortable), but when I come across a dog or a cat I rush to cuddle it and talk to it like a child realizing only afterwards that there was an embarrassed human being connected to it... At that point the introvert beast in me regain control and I would like to run away 😄
I, too, helped rescue a canine we called "Black Dog" because we didn't want to get attached to him. Ha! We loved him dearly and cried when he went to his forever home on a ranch that was perfect for him. He was such a good boy!
That’s how I ended up with a cat named Pooper, lol. We were going to “find her a good home” so didn’t name her. After a couple weeks, we realized she would think her name was Little S**t because we were always laughing and saying “Oh, you Little S**t!” when her tiny kitten self was absolutely terrorizing our four adult cats and 80 lb. dog. 😁 Pooper was the cute alternative and it became her name. It just suited her. She was my best friend for 13 years.
It is easy to name a dog. The cat however, will settle on the name it wants to be called and you have to figure it out. Why Pig? Only the cat knows. Signed-Richard.
That is so sweet! Many years ago, I had a bonded pair of male cats and when they were 3, I adopted a female cat that showed up at my door. She didn't really want anything to do with them, but when my husband got a dog, she was in seventh heaven! While the dog didn't share her feelings, he kindly tolerated her.
Yay! Similarly, my small dog, Nikkee had seperation anxetiy for yearsthat led to bleeding paws from "scritching" on doors. Beatrix as a kitten took over immediately! He hasn't 'scritched' since. She shows her feelings in her own way and he....tolerates her friendship. It's hilarious when she body checks him, jumps over him playfully. She has one job and she's a natural!
Humans are. Haven’t you noticed it is usually human spaces that allow animals to have these types of relationship. All beings are love at their core, it’s competition and survival that has us at each other’s necks. Humans are trying to figure out, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
I work at a local food shelf. we have 50 to 70 people a day everyday looking for food assistance for themselves and their pets they are only allowed 2 visits a month. Rent here in my state has increased 500 to 800 a month or more, food has gone up, heating fuel is up, Eventually, you have no more money to cover raising costs. Especially if you're on a fixed income. Many are struggling or outright homeless. If you take a pet to the local pound, you have to pay to bring in a stray or to relinquish a pet. If they could pay they'd keep the pet. It's bad out there, we had people die because they only had a tent to live in during winter in Vermont. Section 8 housing has a 5 year wait, let that sink in 5 yrs before you can get a rent assistance home to live in. You want to help bring in cat or dog food to a food shelf, pet sanctuary or pound.
I’m homeless myself and could do very well having a service dog to alert me to my health issues but I can’t even find safe housing for myself so I won’t get any animal, they deserve safe and stable housing too. I’m almost on year three of waiting for housing assistance. The way things are going is awful.

Her new mommy unknowingly gave Kitty the name of my narcissistic mother! I wished I'd named Kitty myself.

What an awesome animal sanctuary. We all need to support animal sanctuaries, like this one. So many animals are being abandoned though they simply can't survive on their own and animal shelters are overfilled to capacity that they have to euthanize otherwise healthy animals unless people open up their homes and hearts to these animals by adopting or fostering and donating to animal sanctuaries who care, feed, treat, etc, animals in need. Many thanks and blessings to all animal rescuers and donaters. This is truly a collective effort.
At least where I live, if a shelter doesn't have room, they don't take the animal(s). Sure, sanctuaries are important. Especially for non cat/dog animals. But I think shelters typically reject animals they don't have room for. Also, not all shelters are full. I understand what you're trying to do, but you don't need to exaggerate. The actual problem is bad enough.
She's pretty small and she doesnt appear to go looking for the cats. Cats--especially nervous or feral ones--can interpret being approached as aggressive. Ignoring a cat is therefore understood as "i am not a threat." Its why the person who doesnt like cats always gets their attention lol. Most cats will learn their humans arent aggressive pretty quickly but they still like being the one to approach.
