@jalpat2272 The Survivalist Rifle is good if you can get past the crooked front sight if I remember correctly. I haven't run into the Hacate yet, and Joshua Graham Light Shining in Darkness (yeah, I remember this name exact) was sold by accident in the game. The vendor inventory reset itself so never used.

As a Canadian like the reference to the Long Branch arsenal .They made many firearm , from the Lee Enfield Bren gun and Sten submachine gun. As well as want some say is the best Browning HI Power ever made. Used by the Canadian Military in World War Two as well many of the Allied army's.
My friend and fellow Canadian, you forgot one: The FAL in the North, the FNC1 and C2! First country to adopt them as the standard service rifle and the progenitor of all inch-pattern FALs.
A couple of veteran friends of mine make pretty solid arguments for replacing the three-round burst with a two-shot double tap. According to them, nine times out of ten, the third round is going hither and yon, while by training they're told to double tap anyway.

The Service Rifle has always been my favorite gun in NV for two reasons:
1. The sound of a fire team of Troopers all firing at the same time is engrained in my mind.
2. They represent something unique in the Wasteland; they’re newly mass-produced weapons purpose built for a major faction. That’s some pre-war standards right there!
Its not really pre-war standards, the war was over 200 years ago, the gun runners were around in the early 2200s. They mass produced the best firearms on the west coast. God i love the lore
That's actually a good point: though I prefer my GRA Battle rifle (and the BAR and the Tommy), NCR Service rifle is still a good stalwart.
@@iowasucks9494 true, there are others out there (at least on the west coast) producing new firearms like the Gun Runners, but it’s implied that the NCR is becoming modernized to a point unseen anywhere else post-war with farms, clean water, electricity supplying factories that are producing new goods, as well as trucks and aircraft to transport those goods. I’m not sure there’s any other faction that can boast all these things at once.
I wonder if the factories producing all the NCR’s uniforms, armor, guns and ammo are owned by the Gun Runners?

Remember my first playthrough, completely blind, when I first saw the Service Rifle on the back of a trooper. He was in a squad that was patrolling near some nightstalkers. Tried to lead the stalkers to them to get them killed so I can take the rifle, because I assumed it would be full auto.
(This was long before I had an real knowledge of firearms, I assumed all rifles of that style were full auto)
They didn't die, so I took out the patrol myself and then took said rifle which was at 10 % condition.
Yeah, I reloaded that save real quick lol.
Then I got a full condition Service Rifle from Ranger Jackson at the Mojave Outpost, with some Armor Piercing rounds and showed the Legion at Nipton why football equipment and spears are inferior.
There’s a great select fire mod by Xilandro, it’ll solve that problem

7:58 unless it's controlled by electronics a mechanical 3 round burst would never work 100% of the time. Shooting 2 rounds in semi then swapping to burst means you're drain the mag w/ the ratchet engaged with 2 rounds remaining before the lock. So your next mag starts with a 2 round burst, and you can keep doing this plotting the failures perfectly.
Now an electronic control would be the way, but it would need a mechanical fail safe in 2 ways. #1 it needs to fire mechanically no matter what, the weapon cannot become a club because a battery died. #2 You'd need some form of runaway protection and the trigger would have to stay mechanical completely. This design would mean all you really need is a solenoid with an actuator that pulses the 3 rounds and like a calculator cpu to count the rounds and moderate the entire system.
So 1.5Lbs of added weight and an unknown additional size to some part of the trigger assembly housing.

As I understand it, the three-round limiter is a little 6-toothed ratchet inside the fire control group, with every 3rd tooth being longer than the rest. Hence, 3-round burst. But if you have only 2 rounds in the magazine and fire a burst, there's still 1 tooth in the 'burst' left to go.
Something something 20-round magazine not divisible by 3.

Yes, also the cam rotates every time the hammer cocks back. That means if you fire semi auto for a few rounds and then swap to 3 round burst, the first burst can be 1, 2, or 3 rounds depending on the ratchet wheel position.
After that first burst to reset the ratchet position, every consecutive burst will be 3 rounds. Also if you only fire 2 of your 3 rounds, the next burst will only be 1 round because of the same mechanic, the ratchet wheel needs to align.
Its an unfortunate behavior due to the limitation of using a simple mechanical decice to "count" rounds fired.
If Ernest wants a real attack ad he should point out that the guy who literally runs a gun manufacturing business doesn't know how the 3 round burst works... Maybe he should go to SDI to get a better start on his gunsmithing😅

Burst FCGs for ARs are effected by the semi shooting schedule as well. So depending on where you are on the "ratchet" of the cam, that's how many shots are left. Kind of a pain, but burst is awesome still.
Fun fact: the Big Boy from Fallout is based off of the Davy Crockett. The Davy Crocket was developed and scrapped in the Cold War. The reason why it was scrapped was because the launcher couldn't launch nukes far enough to keep the soldiers out of range of the fallout. So any unit who used it would also get an almost lethal level of radiation. The Big Boy is basically the most op weapon in the game

For those curious, the M-16 burst mechanism is a rotating ratchet. That means that the ratchet rotates after every round fired, whether in semi or burst. This is what causes the first burst to be 1-3 rounds, depending on ratchet positioning. After the first "burst", it will always fire 3 rounds unless it jams, runs out of ammo, or is switched to semi and fired. That will result in another burst that can be 1-3 rounds next time on burst. I've been told you can also feel the ratchet give different trigger pull weights, 2 lighter ones and 1 (slightly) heavier.

Vegas has always been my favorite but I've enjoyed them all. I actually started replaying the classic fallout games recently. Took a bit to get back used to the different play styles but I've really enjoyed them.
His reaction to the Mojave Deathclaws is quite genuine. They are scary if you weren't prepared.
If you lucked into seeing one for the first time at extreme range and thought 'I'm sure I could hit that tiny little thing with my lever action .22lr', the preparation time doesn't really help avoid fear, it just gives you time to contemplate what poor life choices really means.

Correct me if I'm wrong. What likely happened with the Whiteclaw test is that if you use 3 round burst with a 20 round mag, the final burst will only fire 2 rounds leaving the limiter in position to fire the 3rd round out of the fresh mag resulting in the single round burst at 7:35. Thank you for joining my autism ted talk.
You can also do it with semi auto. The ratchet mechanism rotates, so it's always moving whether it's in burst or semi. For the first burst after semi, you can get 1-3 rounds, then it will be 3 rounds until it runs out of ammo again.
Edit - I've also been told by a combat vet that you can feel a difference in the trigger pull in different locations on the sear ratchet, 2 lighter pulls and then 1 heavier pull. Not much, but apparently enough to notice, especially in slow fire for accuracy.

The chambering detracts from the authenticity, honestly. It should be in some .50 calibre cartridge, as this was the Survivalists Rifle, not the Service Rifle. It's fine to make the unique weapon, but the receiver markings are all wrong.
I loved the Survivalist's Rifle from the Honest Hearts DLC.

Long time small arms weapons repair guy here.
The cam on the three round burst function of M16A2 and older M4s must be activated by firing.
Swapping to burst from safe or semi will always get you a single shot before a burst function.
Emptying a magazine on the burst function merely causes the next slot of the burst function to take place.
If you run out of ammo on round one of a burst, the rifle will fire two shots of a burst after replacing the magazine, but three on the next trigger pull as long as it is still on burst mode.
It also gets a little funky switching between single and burst. Sometimes single won't work correctly after going to single from burst and may require you to charge the rifle again, ejecting a perfectly good round in the process.
At first I thought comparing it to the Todd Howard "It just works" was just a meme. After reading this I find it is a much more apt comparison that I ever thought...

Don't forget that they corrected this by adding other components to later burst rifles that will reset the burst timer with the release of the trigger. I want to say this was done in the 80s but I can't remember the year and do not care to google search it because morals and showing that I am a human.

Thank god for someone else mentioning these games. They were groundbreaking and as a kid I spent hundreds of hours in Fallout 1&2 even played tactics a bit although I felt tactics was a weaker game then the first 2. Fallout 2 I think is still the best in the franchise.
I actually think the show did a fantastic job at capturing the feel of fallout. Vegas is also my favorite.

As a Canadian that charging handle dig was so real. I didn’t know that was only a C7 thing as most C7’s in the army have the normal charging handle it’s kinda rare but not uncommon to get issued those junk charging handle’s if your in course or tasking at another base.

So for firearms nerds: Why the 3 round burst sometimes doesn’t do the full three rounds is because the cam that controls it is actuated with each hammer release (even when it’s in semi). The cam has 6 teeth, two of which are longer than each other and on opposite sides. So if you start a burst on any tooth other than the long one you’ll burst until the long tooth catches.
So the first burst is dependent on which tooth your on, following bursts (so long as you hold the trigger down for all three rounds and don’t use it in semi again) will fire all three rounds.
so, say you burst-fire it and then fire a single round. When trying to burst-fire again, it will fire two rounds?
I came to the comment section to say the exact same thing hoping that I wasn't the only person to know about that.
@arcticshocked yes, the mechanism is flawed in that if 1 or 2 rounds are fired on semi, the next burst will only finish out the 3 rounds, then it will do a full 3 round burst as the ratchet mechanism has been reset. This problem shows up much more when shooting in semi before burst and when using magazines loaded to a non multiple of 3. It was a poor execution of the idea of making it so that soldiers could get more rounds on target without multiple trigger pulls, while also not allowing them to dump the magazine with a single trigger pull to conserve ammunition. The ratchet mechanism makes the trigger worse than usual on semi and it turned out to be easier to teach soldiers how to shoot controlled pairs/double taps and keep full auto for suppressing fire when resupply is available.
@@arcticshockedno, after the first round engages either of the long gears it would be in position to do the proper three rounds before engaging the opposite long gear. Edit: and of course if you have less than three rounds left in the magazine it will fire whatever is remaining (either one or two) as it does at 2:32
@void4001 so you if you burst fire it works just fine, then switch to semi, fire twice, and then switch back to burst and that would only fire two rounds in burst? The next burst would then be fine because it would have actuated onto a long tooth once more?

In reference to the show, shady sands was only one of many areas controlled by the NCR, They should not fall just because shady sands had fallen.
@@BrianHopson I mean, if we go off the scene where [SPOILER] gets captured, the guy in the gold suit is most likely a lower Brahman Baron. With that in mind, Shady Sands getting nuked would cause just enough chaos for the Brahman Barons to attempt a takeover of the NCR, further destabilizing it to a point of collapse.
The ratchet doesn't reset the burst count when you let go of the trigger. So if you put it in burst, fire two shots and release before the third, the next time you pull the trigger it'll only fire one. This also goes between reloads. You get six 3 round bursts in a 20 round mag, plus 2 extra awkward rounds that mess up your burst. It's an AR thing. At least, this is what I learned in basic.
