I'm a big fan of leather mailbags so it's always nice how a craftsman makes one. Thank you for posting this video!
Thanks James....I have very much enjoyed watching your films on mailbags, and I have found them very helpful to think about all the details and how to best construct them etc. There is something about a good mailbag that takes a lot of beating. Best regards Harry

Thank you Harry! Such a great bag! Thanks for making these videos. It is quite a good tutorial with so much useful information. I am making some bags and was curious on how to make those inside seams. Looks like I'll have to thin down the edges, skieving I think it is called. I'll be hand stitching. Thanks for the tips and the video!
Beautiful bags.....a nice way to make a living.

Hey Harry...new to your channel and to leathercrafting. Hope to someday make this bag but will take a long time (if ever ) to achieve your level of skill and craftsmanship. Thank

That's what I like about UA-cam, people from all around the world can easily keep up with other countries and civilizations from every corner of the globe, if there was UA-cam when we were coming up no telling what we'd be now
Hi Harry, loving your videos. I can't see any bags in your online shop, are you going to be making any more?
Hi Chris...I am just focusing on belts and wallets...sorry. Best wishes Harry
Hello sir I'm Tuan from Sri Lanka. I'm a very big fan of you sir. I love leather craft. Your videos are so clear and very easy to understand. I have got a lot of tips and leather craft is my hobby. But I can't get good leather here in Sri Lanka. Do more videos and god bless you.
tuan hakeem Thanks very much Tuan.
That is a beautiful bag. I’m still new to leather craft but I want to get my hands on a WWII 1940s mail bag and pattern my own bag after it, but I don’t want to spend that kind of money. I’m going to make mine without the carry handle like the originals, and without the front pleat the original bags have. I don’t like them. I love the latch you used. How does it work? I’ve never used one like that.
Harry i could have been first to comment but I'm had to watch the excellent content...ha ha... very nicely done... you are a master at about anything i have watch here...i to am a new sub...an will be waiting on the next one...from Central west Virginia...
Nicely put John! All the very best Harry
Harry, this is truly a great bag! I remember when you first started youtube. You have really come a long way! What quality craftsmanship leather!! Where do you get your zippers and buckles from? I have really enjoyed watching you get better and better. I also, create and design bags because of you completing videos (loving it)!
True Craftsmanship
miguel ulloa Thanks Miguel
Hi Harry, I always watch your videos, very clear, good sound and great info. Love your bags. What are the bag latches called?
I wonder if they have them here in Australia. Any how keep them coming. Cheers Peter
really nice quality made bag! amazing work! :) love your attention to details.. 100%
how much is it? and where can i buy it?
and is it possible that if i wanted two front pockets or back pockets for my mobile phone and some small items like wallets.
@@omsqirt Thanks...I am not going to be making these for a while, sorry
Harry Rogers oh.. that’s sad .. I’m ready to buy but it’s ok. Not meant to be
Beautiful work my friend
Dean O Thanks Dean. Regards Harry
I sure wish I knew how to do this kind of work.
Hi Harry, may you tell us, where you've got the quick release brass latch from? That would be nice ... thanks and greetings from germany.
I love your work as a fellow leather worker your work and attention to detail is inspirational. I was also wondering were can I get hold of some of those one handed clasps.
nzspearohunter Thanks...if you mean the clips they are patchwork clips off Amazon.
sorry no the buckle that you use on the front of the bag. is it called a cinch buckle?
Thank you for your wonderful videos. I am also thinking about making a similar bag using solid copper or brass saddle rivets that require peening. However, in my research, I see many similar bags employing what some people are calling solid-brass double-capped industrial-strength rivets. This sounds enticing, but I'm not sure such a thing actually exists. My understanding is that all solid-brass double-capped rivets have hollow posts, and that solid-brass for these rivets merely means that rivets are 100% brass, not plated, but also not 100% solid.
I love those mail bag style messenger bags. I want to make one myself and I’m trying to lay out a pattern myself. What size are your bags, in inches if possible? That bag looks sharp! I’m still a bigger, but I have upholstery experience so I think I can tackle this.
Hi Harry, Great video. Were you able to get that speed buckle / latch in the UK? About to start one, but can’t find a supplier in this country.
I love them, great job. Do you make them in different colors? And do you have one that has been well used that you could show in a video of what the bag looks like as it ages. Would love to see it if you do. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks - yes I will be...its a new line.
Great keep me posted please.
dear harry. i like it. thanks. azhar
Thanks Azhar
Ich bin in der Schweiz und sehe gerne wie Harry Lederarbeiten zeigt. Danke Rudolf
Danke Rudolph
Beautiful!
This bag is beautiful, how many dollars for buy this bag?
You should look at an air rivet hammer, they're used to rivet air planes together. Might save some time and be less hard on the body.
Beautiful and well made bags. The one-handed latch and buckles and other brass hardware don't come cheap if you want quality that will match the leather and workmanship.
Khamomil Thanks and spot on...unfortunately this bag is expensive to make.
Hi! Love your work, beautiful bags. May I ask how much time you spent on this particular batch work?
The bags take a long time even in batches and using some clickers so much so that they only become profitable at a high price point, at which most people will want to walk away.
@@harryrogers Appreciate your response
Cool vid!
Hi harry i love all your videos, i use industrial machines but i make my own clothes and maybe some leather bags using old sofa leather .... but i wanted to know why does your machine beep when you press the pedal, my machine doesn’t do that ?????
Hi Ricky...the sound is oddly amplified by the camera but is actually a lot less...this particular servo is a bit different to my others but works fine!
Ahhhhh right .... i have a jack A4S and an industrial overlocker ... i also have home machines too .... I’m busy making my mam a leather bag for her birthday .... iv just bought a roller wheel foot and feed dogs for my machine because my machine can handle all sorts of thicknesses
Lovely work. When you transfer the pattern onto the leather what sort of pencil did you use, it looked like a Chinagraph but I didn't see it on the bench.
dabbishaw hi it's a silver leather marker pen...you will find them on EBay ers.
These bags are beautiful, great job!! What leather thickness are you using?
Thanks..about 2.2mm
Hi Harry, absolutely beautiful bag. I am really enjoying your videos. What type of leather is that? It has a certain even dimpled effect. Those copper rivets are lovely, where can you buy those? Keep up the good work..
Hi Sally - its soft vegetable tanned, very lightly milled. For the copper rivets just google saddlers rivets and you should find some...the likes of Tandy do them in brass and copper...Tandy call them rivet burrs.
thanks Harry for the quick reply, much appreciated.
How would I slow my sewing machine down like yours? I’ve got a seiko cylinder arm industrial machine with a half hp clutch motor. Thanks in advance
Hi Harry. Truely beautiful. How thick is the leather that u used?
Johan Van der Walt Thanks...its over 2mm....a good compromise between giving the bag body and strength without being too heavy.
Harry Rogers. Can you please let me know where I can safetly order a set of quick lever latches. Here in South Africa I am struggeling to find a set. Regards
Great bag, perfect design & creation my friend. Question: the edges of the leather of the bag itself is that veg tan aswell and did you rounded over & slickened the edges???
Josh Luijsterburg Hi yes they are veg tan and I dyed and slicked the edges.....and in places thinned them down with a skiving machine.
Which brand industrial Maschine is the cylinder arm one? Lovely work!
It's a very good clone from Tysew UK.
I am in the process of buying a Adler Dürkopp walking foot with a new servo. It’s about 30 years old but I asked around and it’s still an original German made workhorse. If it’s as nice as yours I will be happy. Thank goodness it comes with a custom made table that has 2 height settings. I must say this is your fault... 😂your videos inspired me to take the leap. If you ever decide to do tuition over a weekend or a short few day course, I will fly from Germany to attend!!! Thanks for your time in sharing with us. I know it takes a lot to upload and edit these videos. Appreciated!
@@starfish3704 Nice...and I do run 1 day courses...a couple of your countrymen have attended!
You're a clever man...
Hey Harry, were you aware you can get brass rivets and burrs from Tandy? I love the strength of the copper ones, but never find hardware to match! grrr! :)
Smaj Thanks for the reminder....there is a case for matching it all...I know some people like the copper ...maybe I use brass on the next lot. Thanks again Best regards Harry
awesome ,job well done
phyllis mulkey Thanks Phyllis
Hi Harry. Did you make the wooden edge polisher or did you buy that?
Hello Tim...you can buy the wooden edge polishers off ebay..they are called edge slickers or burnishers and are very well made ...nice hard beech wood, and just the right size and shape...they are so cheap its not really worth trying to make one.
Thanks Harry i will look it up.
hello Harry do you teach leather purse work shops? amazing!!
Ardena Hollins Thanks Ardena...I don't really get the time!
Beautiful work Harry, how do you source the seude veg tan leather? So you strip the layers to make it yourself or not? Cheers mate
I use the flesh side and brass brush it.
Harry Rogers wow thats a very clever method, does it take a while to get it like that? and when completed seuding do you treat it like the top layer or just leave it?
What's the thikness of the steel bar to make the die ? Your answer will help a lot ...thanks
salvador soto hi if you mean the steel rule die it's 2pt 60 degree universal.
Yes ...thanks . I found he link to buy them. THANKS A LOT ...NICE VIDEOS KEEP POSTING THEM.
Mr. Rogers, what did your bell skiver cost? Thanks!
It's a Tysew from Industrial Sewing at Southall.
For that type of bag, what would be the ideal oz of leather to use?
Hi around 2mm which is around 5oz.
@@harryrogers thank you, Sir!
good job
may you tell about the size em cm, each panel,sr(three main lengties)
How much if I want to have the pattern of this back?
Hi Harry, i've just subscribed after stumbling on one of your videos whilst looking for information on industrial sewing machines. May I ask what is the name of the cylinder machine you are using or one that you would recommend please? I know you mentioned in another video that one machine can't do everything but i'm hoping to get one as flexible as possible. I love what you did today with your bags and if I can find a machine to do that as well as recycled coat leather for bags I would be a happy bunny. PS do you sell machines?
annuk03 Its a Tysew...a clone of a Juki I believe....Tysew are based in London and have a website.
Thanks Harry. I'm surprised as they are almost affordable, I assumed you must be using a top of line £5000 machine, still its your skill rather than the machine involved. I'm off to ebay to look for a nice cylinder arm Christmas present for me! :) So pleased to have found your channel
annuk03 It has needle feed which is pretty essential....I also tried an Adler but preferred this one and have no regrets....it is not as robust as a Juki original but seems perfectly up to the job for pin accurate stitching.
Thank you Harry. I have no intentions of selling anything but we enjoy crafts and are moving towards being more self sufficient. I don't need an industrial machine I know, but I've wanted one for many years and feel ready to move on from my 201k. I have found a Sunstar on ebay that is compound walking foot. Never heard of them so will investigate but it does look similar to yours. I'm all fired up and ready to sew now :)
? was wondering about the anvile you use. what is the weight and manufacture
frank horvath I think it's approx 28lb...of dubious manufacture but very good for this task.
Where can I learn more about your bags, including availability and price?
pwnc1959 There is a link to my website at the end of most films..thanks.
Harry, what is the name of your shop at Etsy or where I can buy the PDF Pattern?
Hi Michael - all my products and plans are on www.Bucklehurstleather.co.uk...I have just sent you a link for the card wallet...Best Regards Harry
Maravilhosa!!!! Parabéns....
Luziano Macedo obrigado Luziano
Sheer Q U A L I T Y !!!!!!!!
Oh my, Harry, we could have had a three hour vid of you making one of these, it would have made perfect viewing, Grhhhh.
Incidentally, emboss these with an H or Y.S.L. and you can charge £8000. a piece..
Dowserdude Thanks I am pleased you enjoyed that one...the edit took a while...All the best Harry
