Thanks for the ride Jared. So what's for next time? *Hears the singing and skin turns white* oh no, not that song...... I'm a lifelong metal gear solid fan and while I like to be optimistic I do agree agree that Kojima is closer to a hammer when silent hill needs a scalpel
@@linkin7357 I mean, if you're asking for another Silent Hill game, you're already asking for a miracle. So at that point why not ask for a proper miracle? My point was mainly that I disagree calling Kojima the best fit you could come up with. He's an awkward fit at best. Potential? Yes. Likelihood? Unsure. As to the points made by the video about his tendency away from a subtle handling. I don't necessarily think it follows that someone's example of previous work is a blueprint for everything they're gonna do afterwards. Artists can differentiate between vibes. However I think there was still reason to be dubious. One thing we can agree on though, it would've been a hell of better if he'd had the chance to actually prove or disprove that. Sad how it ended up.
I'm really praying that Tokyo Game Show leak for a new SH game is legitimate. I don't want PT to be the end of the trail because it wasn't even a fully realized game and it drives us nuts to wonder what it could've been like.
@@Dav-zy1dw I agree. Like I know that Team Silent's work has not been topped or come close to but we haven't gotten anything in the new era of gaming like Silent Hill. The technology and what's capable has changed wildly so games back then that changed up the landscape should absolutely continue because the market gets stale without it. I believe someone will come along at some point and do it justice.
Capcom needs to buy the rights to Silent Hill from Konami and get team silent back together. Hell, they could even make a non-canon crossover with Resident Evil.
My biggest regret was getting an Xboxone. I fully believed that this Silent Hill entry would go off without a hitch... but then Konami happened. There's a rumor that a Silent Hill is in the works, but I'm not holding my breath. I also liked an article from bloodydisgusting.com talking about how we need to get past SH2.
I'm laughing so hard that you said "we need another Silent Hill entry" & "we need to get past SH2" in the same comment 😂 man they really fumbled not remaking SH1 first, SH1 & 3 are the better games IMO
I wish I was able to play this demo when it came out, the amount of remakes, and inspired games from P.T. is crazy just shows how this simple demo can change the horror game years later. Now looking at the story, theories and other info within the demo from videos, I started to make my own story and reimagined the concept of P.T. into my own world.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I have just watched your whole Silent Hill Retrospective, and it's fantastic. I finally played SH3 because of these videos, and it's become my favourite of the series. I also gave SH4 and Origins a try, but didn't click with them. Then I replayed SH2 last week and might replay SH1. I have only played them both once, when they first came out. Thanks so much for bringing this slumbering series back into my life. I didn't think I could have so much fun with 20 year old games.
silent hill is my biggest special interest at the moment (im autistic) and your videos have brought me so much happiness, excitement, sadness, even anger. your sh series has seriously changed my perspective of all the games, making me love them even more than i already did. i played these games as a child and its so weird to fall in love with the series over again as an adult. i thank you for all the hard work and time youve dedicated to this, and i cant wait to see your further work. 💕💖💗💞💘💓
Aww, man. I loved your Silent Hill videos. Your deep dive and valuable insight into the series as a whole is what keeps me interested in the series. Believe me, I absolutely LOVE Silent Hill as a franchise, even though it started to falter in later entries. But it nearly came back to us, then was canned and the future of it is very uncertain. However, your videos covering the series made me feel a sense of comfort. But now, its over. I'd say it is sad and depressing, but its more bittersweet than anything. One series ends, another goes on. I will miss your SH Retrospectives, but I also look forward to the next RE Retrospective. And your final word in the video gives me even a sliver of hope that we may again see you return to covering topics about that little town that calls our name. And if that little teaser at the end is anything to go by, I eagerly await the next Retrospective with incomprehensible anticipation!!!! Until then, take care, man. Much love and respect to ya!
I loved this since its first showing at Gamescom it was one of those "here it is and you can download it today" kind of deals. Also I recommend looking up Lance McDonald on UA-cam as he has a collection of hacks that show cut content and secrets such as the fact that Lisa is indeed behind you the whole time
Honestly man, I can safely say I have watched most of your videos at least once or twice each, and I appreciate the effort that goes into these. I’m forever a fan, and always look forward to your videos
I believe the cryptic way the story is told in PT is a good example that Kojima could be subtle about the story. And he certainly was passionate about the project that he invited Reedus and del Toro to work on death stranding. Also love the easter egg in MGSV where you can hear the PT radio broadcast in an enemy camp
Cancellation of Silent Hills still hurts me a lot... Every year around this time I go back to P.T. to get a sense of what could've been. That's one reason not to get rid of my PS4... It was also an interesting case, since the cancellation and the split between Konami and Kojima was very public, while it was happening real time. I do agree looking back, maybe Kojima wasn't the right guy. I felt this personally after playing Death Stranding more than anything else. But hey, we will never know. P.S. DEAD SPACE RETROSPECTIVE HERE WE GOOOOO
I think we are forgetting something. Kojima might have brought Del Toro and Junji Ito on board for a reason. He knew that he might not be that subtle in storytelling when it comes to silent hill, that's why he brought two storytellers who understand psychological horror to its completion. But then it's just me speculating.
Thank you so much for the Retrospective series Jared! Really appreciate the work you put in to cover every piece of main Silent Hill media (excluding of course reading based stuff) out there!! Also, I can't wait to see you on the USG Ishimura. Just do me a favour and bring yourself a Plasma Cutter - that tool is much more then that: you don't wanna get hurt now of course!
As thankful as I am for this whole series of videos, bringing P.T. back and saying goodbye to SH again made me feel the same way as back then, when Konami booted Kojima and cancelled whole endeavor - my heart broke, my smile and optimism was gone. Years have passed, Kojima's story concept for Silent Hills didn't work out in a different setting, and SH's final demise still hurts. Definitely looking forward to Dead Space retrospective, I hope you'll be covering comics and movies too
I think the thing that makes PT unique is how it’s main focus is not the game demo itself. It was seen as a promotional demo for a new silent hill game to a message from kojima’s team on inside info about komani that they couldn’t disclose to a symbolic confession about something fucked up that happened in kojima’s life. Still have no idea how much of the claims being thrown around the time when PT was big are true but boy did the internet turn this little game into something more than a game for a while
I'm very glad that I still have this on my PS4. It breaks my heart that we never got a finished game out of this, only an endless series of what ifs and imagine thats. Great video as always man, can't wait for the Dead Space series.
In the video of the arcade SH game, when you mentioned the next series you were wanting to hint at, I said to myself, "I hope it's Dead Space." The second I heard the "twinkle twinkle," I had nothing but goosebumps, and a dropped jaw. I loved your RE series, I loved the SH series, and I cannot wait to watch your Dead Space series.
I don't think any one person was meant to figure out the cryptic clues to trigger the next loop. This was meant to be an Internet community thing working together.
I'm glad a friend told me to download pt but now regret deleting it right before it got taken off the psn store. Watching videos of people reacting and/or talking about it just isn't the same. I'm glad you got the opportunity to play it, Jared
So firstly, I loved this retrospective series. It was super insightful, fun, and the only deep dive that taught me things I didn't know about the series. Second, I have PT on my PS4 and I purchased it after it was taken down. A friend of mine copied the game on a hard drive and installed it on my console. So there's definitely a way for people to still get the original thing on their consoles. I also suspect Guillermo del Toro was going to be more responsible for the writing than Kojima. So we might have gotten the necessary restraint. Still hoping for a resurrection. SH3 was the first game I can recall playing through almost immediately upon finishing the first time. Anyway, great series man.
HOLY FUCK! That tease at the end got me literal chills! Just when I thought this channel couldn't get any better, I LOVED the sh and re retrospectives and I'm beyond excited for the future! Thanks Jared for always brighten my day up, cheers to my fav gaming analysis channel!
As a person who hasn't played a silent game in his life or even watched someone else play it. I watched each and every in this retrospective. These videos were great and informative. Excited for whatever the future holds for you,Jared. Cheers.
Really really enjoyed your SH retrospective vids, I think you did an amazing job going over everything. Looking forward to whatever comes next! Cheers!!
What a great retrospective you did Jared and man now I gained a lot of appreciation and respect of the series now more than ever from watching your analyses on these games. Hope to see you on the next one.
I watched this whole series over the span of a few days and I can honestly say this was such a fun ride. I loved every video and it was great to see your perspective on my favorite horror series. Definitely worth every second. You sir earned my sub.
Wow, incredible video, thanks for that. The analytical part was awesome, the jab at screaming dumbasses was so relatable, and your ending argument was incredible. Can't wait for your next project!
Holy shit I've only been a fan of the series for a little bit more than 2 years, but I truly felt your passion to the series throught the video and I couldn't feel less than a teary eye here. Cheers man, cheers.
We sorely need to allow the Kojima's of this landscape to thrive, think and continue offering us new perspectives to game from and through. At least to be given the latitude to share a story as intended. It's never going to all be gold, but when you play a game of his and it does -get- you ? You'll never forget it and crucially will be able to compare it to almost all of your games and truly appreciate how deep or far off the man can take a story while having you experience it like the first day you picked up a controller. ...and wrap it in a style that is just as unique, fantastic and rich with intrigue.
Thank you for being a voice of reason when it comes to Kojima getting his hands on the Silent Hill IP. When the entire internet was ablaze in excitement, I was mortified. Like him or hate him, the man writes with the subtlety of a jackhammer. And what's worse is that no matter what he released, it would be gobbled up and become the new standard, effectively reviving the franchise as a whole new undead beast that carried a beloved name. PT might have been a good horror game, but point to one aspect of it that made it a good Silent Hill game.
Nah, PT itself has the essence of Silent Hill. It’s either accidental coincidence or straight up understanding of what’s Silent Hill actually was. Who knows now.
Fun fact the ghost is attached directly behind the player whenever you hear the heavy breathing. She is straight up right behind you but you just can't see her.
I couldn’t agree more with the last sentiments of this video. I consider Silent Hill 1-3 some of the greatest games ever made, with 2 being my favourite. But despite that I honestly don’t think we need anymore silent hill games. How many times can that lightning be rebottled? We got three amazing all time classics, and some other good games too, it’s ok to leave silent hill behind. I think that also goes for many of these long running series we’ve all enjoyed over the years that are ageing, creaking and now buckling under the weight of their own legacy. How many more resident evils or devil may cry’s do we honestly need? I’m just glad I got to play those games when they were new, and I still have them forever, and that’s enough for me. Thank you Team Silent, for all the restless dreams and nightmares you’ve given me over the past two decades! ❤
I will never get rid of my PS4 that has this installed. I was even able to transfer everything to my PS4 Pro when I got it, since it transfers locally.
Hey man, thanks for making these. I always get a kick seeing a new video uploaded, and I really appreciate everything about your presentation and critiques. I grew up as a hardcore RE fan (still am!) and it was almost a year ago when I came down with the flu and watched all of your RE retrospectives and older review videos in the dead of night during a Nyquil induced haze. I loved this Silent Hill retrospective just as much as the RE one, particularly because I could never get into Silent Hill. I've played SH2 and 3 but never finished either of them, despite being an intensive classic RE fan, Silent Hill just wasn't for me. Watching your retrospectives has allowed to me to really appreciate these games and understand them despite never even playing them, and I think that's a testament to how great these retrospectives are. So thanks for all your hard work, I am tremendously looking forward to the next retrospective series you put out.
Whoo! Just finished the series. I agree with what you said for each game. The ones I haven't played, like the rail shooter and the book of memories, just...I have to take your word on it. I did emulate Downpour, but I stopped so fast...the battling, the exploration...all garbage. Thanks for going through this! And I'll always wonder what Silent Hills could have been. In the back of my mind, a big part of me wishes it was hot garbage, just to make the cancelled project lass painful.
This is the most tragic loss for any fans of actual, psychological horror. Not jump scares. Not cheap gore porn. Not any of that being chased by some idiot while all you have is a flashlight, and you gotta hide in a locker. This was the purest homage to the sort of scares the SH series gave me all throughout my teenage years, and I will dead ass forever be pained by this getting canned. It's even worse it was taken from the PS store, because I still have it installed on my OG PS4 since the day it came out... and I know someday that HDD is going to die.
I remember that I had just bought a pair of Astro A40's off a friend, and this was literally my first time using them. It definitely increased the terror, because the sound design in this little demo is creepy af.
I have the worst luck with Games. I buy City of Hero's at a Garage sale. (Don't have Internet) When I do get internet the game servers are taken down. I get PT, when I delete it to make some room then re-install it I can't (Taken down from store) Next day people are on youtube saying how PT was taken down. I throw away City of Heroes (Its picked up by trash company same day) That EXACT SAME DAY "Private Servers are open to the public." (These are just the 2 games I can remember the most but alot of that crap happens) I know longer buy anything Digital now. and don't throw away disc's for any reason unless that disc is destroyed.
YES YES YES DEAD SPACE RETROSPECTIVE PLEASE! (All caps necessary for one of the greatest trilogies that sadly got EA'ed, ever) Loving your retrospective series you've been creating over the past couple of years and it's nice to see P.T. revisited :)
Thrilled to see Dead Space on deck. Maybe because there was only 3 main entries, maybe because the series ended on a weak note, or maybe because the series really only hung around for 5ish years, I feel it doesn't get talked about nearly on the level that RE or SH does.
Good job on the Silent Hill retrospective series! I've enjoyed watching them all. I like your Dead Space teaser too, and I'll definitely be there watching those as well! With that, you'll have covered my top three survival horror franchises, so that's pretty cool.
The SH Retrospective was a blast to watch through, so thank you for your dedication to get through the entire franchise! That said, I'm stoked for Dead Space!
It was a nice ride, too bad it ended too soon, but maybe it was for the better. Good thing we still have the originals to look for and remember it! Good work there, Jared. I see you in space! xD
Thanks for a really great piece. You're right, the buzz for PT may have come and gone, but your words on it even after all this time, are just as critically important as retrospectives go. Also looking forward to the next frontier you turn your attention to ;)
So I watched all of your SH retrospective and even though, I don’t agree with everything, I thank you for doing this heartfelt project and still hope, that one day... One day, we might return to the town, we all are afraid of and still love... Thank you! 🙏🏻
I've been both really looking forward to as well as dreading this one. Sad to see this end, but it's been great to watch you go back over the franchise.
I'm a bit dubious about how it might've turned out as well, although it obviously would've been better if he'd actually had the chance to show that. I'm so glad you touched on the concept trailer, because a lot of people covering PT tend to ignore it. I did like the monster from it, the one with the large arm. That to me felt like it could've been quite silent-hill-ish, even if the toys and the worm head (SH1 reference, possibly?) didn't do anything for me. PT itself felt like a great thing in its own way, but not very much like SH. But I think that was intentional. I'd imagine that could be akin to the start of a game that then goes on differently after that. I wasn't thrilled about a celebrity-faced main character (when has that ever not broken immersion, right?) but since I never watched that series he was in it didn't really affect me like that (I was just aware it would probably do that for others). I would say... I would not have enjoyed a Silent Hill game that played like PT. While I'm fairly certain that wouldn't have been what we got, I get the impression that was what a lot of people were hoping for, and I don't really understand that perspective. But yeah, it was a spooky trip of its own, in its own right. I never even had a PS4 myself but I lived with a friend who had one at the time of its release. If anything were ever to come of this series' by-now-a-million-times-unlikely continuance... honestly I'd be hoping for something in the vibe of SH1, or perhaps somewhere between 1 & 2/3. Old school tank controls, high texture graphics... maybe to stop close-up quality dives but put them through a mosaic filter so you still get that heavily pixellated feel, very obscured surroundings at most points (maybe just the odd break here and there since that's possible now but still mostly agro-claustro), the sense that the map you go through joins at the edges to other maps from the other games... but oddly perhaps most of all I miss the old school menu system with it's serious-looking portrait in the corner and xz-plane radial selection. Wasn't that such a thing back in the day? Made you feel like "blomph, here you go - frown, serious man - deal with this now you're really in it now!" I dunno if anyone else got that sense, maybe I'm making no sense at all. It was so simple and clean-moving and rough-looking and I loved it, beautiful stuff. Why'd they ever turn away from it, right? I dunno I feel like the series has done so much messing around and trying new stuff that a simple straightforward classical romp could be the ticket. But like I say I'm not holding my breath. We'll probably be rid of the concept of intellectual property altogether before Konami deign to let anyone have another proper true crack at the series. Well I hope that day comes in my lifetime that's all I can say! Y'know my sensible hat keeps saying "it's just a series, there are other games" but I dunno y'know, I keep coming back to it. Definitely something special about it, there may not ever be another.
I think you're totally right! They've tried spicing the series up, and it was a royal failure every time. Now it's time to go back to the basics for a change. Maybe instead of innovating, they try to recreate something that was already proven to work.
@@AvalancheReviews just... keep that to the game mechanics rather than the plot, lol. Brand new plot, on an old school game. I liked your point about restraint especially. We can do a lot more with the technology than we could do back then, but the big thing is should we? Given how wonderfully those old limitations necessitated innovation. And I think the ideal (and uncommon) conclusion is more often than not, "yes but sparingly".

Sad how it ended up.
why are we not mentioning that Del Toro was attached to this too?
"There was a teaser here,
It's gone now."
I'm really praying that Tokyo Game Show leak for a new SH game is legitimate. I don't want PT to be the end of the trail because it wasn't even a fully realized game and it drives us nuts to wonder what it could've been like.
We need at least a few more Silent Hill games
@@Dav-zy1dw I agree. Like I know that Team Silent's work has not been topped or come close to but we haven't gotten anything in the new era of gaming like Silent Hill. The technology and what's capable has changed wildly so games back then that changed up the landscape should absolutely continue because the market gets stale without it. I believe someone will come along at some point and do it justice.
I'm not sure if I even would want Konami to make another SH game, looking at Metal Gear Survive and Contra Rogue Corps.
Capcom needs to buy the rights to Silent Hill from Konami and get team silent back together. Hell, they could even make a non-canon crossover with Resident Evil.
My enthusiasm is tied to whether the title will be Japanese or not. To quote that one guy from Pet Sematary, "Sometimes dead is better."
"About as appealing as a hammer smashed face" ah yes Cannibal Corpse, a man of culture I see
Came down here to see if anyone else caught the reference (or at least I hope it was an intentional reference to CC).
Me when I get the notification for this video: "My body is ready."
That’s a good article! I wish more people would listen to its advice.
Played this after a night out drinking and was scary af.
just when we thoud that the retrospectives on SH were over.. he came here and got us all by surprise
Jared (I hope I didn't butcher your name); I have to say your channel is truly underrated and deserves so much more love.
I suppose you do have niche content so slow growth is to be expected.
Anyhow I just wanted to give you my utmost respect for the time and effort you put into these AMAZING top quality content. You allow so many of us with limited access to so much of the gaming industry to stay up-to-date or even become aware of things we didn't know haha.
Thanks again,
All the best.

Your work is so underrated. I loved the Resident Evil Retrospective and this one as well.
Wish you the best.
*. . . Very important rant starts at **4:50** . . .*
HA!
2:30 - It was announced at Gamescom 2014 by Sony of all people. So it immediately had a lot of eyes on it, as an officially endoresed Sony property.
silent hill is my biggest special interest at the moment (im autistic) and your videos have brought me so much happiness, excitement, sadness, even anger. your sh series has seriously changed my perspective of all the games, making me love them even more than i already did. i played these games as a child and its so weird to fall in love with the series over again as an adult. i thank you for all the hard work and time youve dedicated to this, and i cant wait to see your further work. 💕💖💗💞💘💓
Also I recommend looking up Lance McDonald on UA-cam as he has a collection of hacks that show cut content and secrets such as the fact that Lisa is indeed behind you the whole time
I stumbled on one of his videos showing what Lisa was up to. Very good stuff!
As far as I remember, P.T didnt just show up on psn. They announced it on a game show that it was available now.
SweetGM this 100. It’s not hard to find these details on the internet.
Definitely looking forward to Dead Space retrospective, I hope you'll be covering comics and movies too
You sir made my day when you showed that little teaser at the end of the video.
Fuck yeah!!!! It's my pleasure man!!!
This game or demo is unforgettable. Freaked me out like no other, literally. Crazy how a short 15 minute experience held so much weight.
"never underestimate the power of bored people with internet connection"
Bruh xD
I watched this whole series over the span of a few days and I can honestly say this was such a fun ride. I loved every video and it was great to see your perspective on my favorite horror series. Definitely worth every second. You sir earned my sub.
Wow, incredible video, thanks for that. The analytical part was awesome, the jab at screaming dumbasses was so relatable, and your ending argument was incredible. Can't wait for your next project!
Holy shit
I've only been a fan of the series for a little bit more than 2 years, but I truly felt your passion to the series throught the video and I couldn't feel less than a teary eye here.
Yes dead space! Also, loved the silent hill retrospectives!
This is only the game that has truly scared me this entire generation and it was a freakin demo!
As much as I hate the fact it couldn't come to fruition, the mystery surrounding the game itself is just as fascinating. Spot on as usual dude
The Dead Space segue was perfectly executed.
I hoped you guys would like that
Avalanche Reviews Great video, I also got chills at the end! Can’t wait for the Dead Space videos :)

Wattt yuuu aaaaa....
RIP Silent Hill. Even though I'd never want to live there you were certainly an adventure to visit.
Yes! Here's a comment for the algorithm until I can watch this on my lunch break today. Keep on kicking ass, Jared!
Both I and the algorithm thank you
I will never get rid of my PS4 that has this installed. I was even able to transfer everything to my PS4 Pro when I got it, since it transfers locally.
Looking forward to the Dead Space trilogy!
Also, the two spin offs lol.
there's still silent hill GBA left to review
An "Avalanche.R" review of dead space.
I had no idea how much I need that!!

I love the fact that he sounds like the Toonami guy most. Great video!
HA! I've been getting that a lot lately!
Rare footage of Jared getting scared on screen 15:08 , legitimately laughed at your POV shake lol
That's so awesome that somebody hooked you up with the ps4! Great video man!!!
Your voice is ASMR. I can binge-watch these videos and fall asleep. I mean that in a good way.
Comments like this are exactly why I'll keep putting my heart and soul into this stuff. Thanks so much!
I throw away City of Heroes (Its picked up by trash company same day) That EXACT SAME DAY "Private Servers are open to the public."
(These are just the 2 games I can remember the most but alot of that crap happens) I know longer buy anything Digital now. and don't throw away disc's for any reason unless that disc is destroyed.
The fact that the ghost literally follows you forever after a certain point the entire time makes it much creepier lol
Will you do the FEAR and BioShock series?
I never really thought about covering Bioshock, but definitely Fear.
@@AvalancheReviews I think BioShock is the kind of franchise that also deserves your attention, along with System Shock.
That's funny, I've been replaying Bioshock lately and was just checking his page for a Bioshock video. I'd love to hear his thoughts on it.
Konami, you done fucked it up BAD!
That conclusion was really good. Nice work! I enjoyed every video in this series.
Wow I only just found your channel and binge watched all your Silent Hill videos just to have you upload it now! Love your videos man
Hell yeah! Good timing for the win!
Man, it's worse for the soul having had P.T. than not having it. One of gaming's great legends of what could have been.
YES YES YES DEAD SPACE RETROSPECTIVE PLEASE! (All caps necessary for one of the greatest trilogies that sadly got EA'ed, ever)
Loving your retrospective series you've been creating over the past couple of years and it's nice to see P.T. revisited :)
My lord the metallic breath of Issac at the end gave me chills ! Vamos Death Space !!!
Mass kudos to Skater for hooking you up for a proper review is a real mvp move
For sure. She's awesome!
Next episode: Silent Hill Slot Machines
The SH Retrospective was a blast to watch through, so thank you for your dedication to get through the entire franchise! That said, I'm stoked for Dead Space!
It was a nice ride, too bad it ended too soon, but maybe it was for the better.
Good thing we still have the originals to look for and remember it! Good work there, Jared. I see you in space! xD
That rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is so chilling, it's in fact what got me to play the first game.
Thanks for doing these retrospectives, they are truly awesome!
Thanks for a really great piece. You're right, the buzz for PT may have come and gone, but your words on it even after all this time, are just as critically important as retrospectives go. Also looking forward to the next frontier you turn your attention to ;)
I'm glad they're reviving the franchise and making more Silent Hill games now.
So I watched all of your SH retrospective and even though, I don’t agree with everything, I thank you for doing this heartfelt project and still hope, that one day...
One day, we might return to the town, we all are afraid of and still love... Thank you! 🙏🏻
Had to double check that the rant about jump-scare UA-camrs wasn't me talking in my own head. Well said.
Your video are criminally underrated! Easily the hardest working UA-camr I've seen. Also. Dead Space would make me even happier.
Are you going to cover the new one Book of memories?
The ending of this video made me smile.
And who could forget everyone's favorite sink fetus. Dude you killed me with that one lol.
