Don’t raise your hopes too much, FromSoftware is notorious for pulling the plug on older games, but by older I mean like 2 to 3 year old games and barely even doing something on the game, Bloodborne doesn’t even have a PS4 Pro patch.
It's not Fromsoftware fault it's Sony they never asked them to make a sequel of Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, or an official patch 60fps patch for Bloodborne. And Fromsoftware's Miyazaki stated of plenty of times it's like Kameo, Onimusha, Power Stone, Conker all over again. If you have a massive fan-base that demand a sequel to some of your most loveable and well known franchise then make a sequel before they abandon you completely. It's commonsense. Who don't want official sequels from those games that I Mentioned or reboots from other well known franchises that been stuck in a dormant state such as Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Left4Dead, Ninja Gaiden(MS just buy Valhalla and turtle rock and get NG & L4D), Perfect Dark, Star Fox Adventures, Jet Force Gemini, Mech Assualt Lone Wolf, Condemned, Banjo, Donkey Kong 64, Turok, another James Bond game( that plays great like Nightfire and GoldenEye 64), ShadowRun, Fable, Fighting Force, Project Gotham, Batman, Tenchu.
Could you imagine if the ps5 isn't all we hope and the amount of time we'll have to wait for the next system. I'm sure at first the wow factor will be high but give it a while
Depends on the game. Spider-Man and God of War were fine because they were optimized to be stable. What's inexcuseable is when it drops below 30 for no reason other than the developers not caring enough to optimize the software.
PS4 and PS5 architecture are so similar that they just have to release the patch with unlocked frame-rate and it'll run on PS5, for free! Basically, Sony has to copy MS's Smart Delivery feature for PS4 users upgrading to PS5.
But it amounted to nothing, cause we can't play it in that way. - Still no patch, still no PS5 or PC announcement. Though, perhaps soon, considering 'Elden Ring's release is a major focus and Sony PS is investing in the PC-market now.
Damn, the difference is huge! A much more fluid experience at 60FPS with 16ms frametimes, very impressed by the effort put into this, great job adding this as an option to the game! Thanks DF for sharing this, I'm not a fan of the game but that doesn't lessen how cool this is to see :)
400 hours of playtime spent over multiple characters. It was a pretty good game😂 I would definitely do another full playthrough if Sony actually did decide to optimize it for next gen. Be it 60 frame cap or at least get rid of frame pacing entirely and boost it to 4K. Besides that I'm good as is currently. I also have not much faith in Sony doing anything I mentioned and if anything a remaster to kinda milk it... That is my negative side thinking which has been more right than my positive... I just hope the last collaboration with Miyazaki and Fromsoft isn't Deracine.
As much as i love FromSoftware, they really don't care much about console optimization. It's especially obvious when you look at their newer PC ports which can often hit 60 on lower end hardware.
@@MrCrypto137 Oh, i actually thought i typed console, whoops. But yeah, it mostly feels like they just throw their engine at consoles and lock them at 30 instead of actually looking more into the actual hardware.
Their PC optimisation doesn't have the best track record either, the initial PC port of Dark Souls is one of the worst PC conversions of all times. The company really needs to invest in better engineers.
from software just doesnt care about optimization period, Dark souls 3 and Sekiro are the only ports that could be considered decent (even then they are seriously lacking) the others were dog shit, especially darksouls 1 if the game wasnt so good it kicked off its own sub-genre NO ONE would have given that nightmare or a port the time of day.
@@David-tp7mc nope, PS5 can run BB on 60fps, as long as they don't add massive extra graphic setting for PS5 version. I believe japan studio is the one that have been handling BB, so easy for sony
I would love a 60fps PS5 patch for this like everyone else, especially since it's included in the PS+ collection, but I doubt they'll do it. They can't keep the PS5 in stock as it is, so they don't really need to give people more reason to buy one. Success often breeds complacency unfortunately.
PC is great but it doesn't have PlayStation exclusives so it's good to have both a PC and a PlayStation. No good reason to have an Xbox though because all of the Xbox exclusives are also on PC.
@@pl3459 It isn't really 'good' to have that though, its a compromise that often just feels like a pain in the ass For me, I had to pay a couple hundred extra bucks, just to play a game at half the resolution, and a fifth of the framerate, it isn't even like theres anything special the playstation does to justify needing specific hardware.
@@johntravoltage959this is not a matter of the need of the hardware. High quality exclusives aren't created by the kindness of the developer's heart. The platform (Sony in this case ) gives the developers a hefty check to pump out the games to the best of their ability and for an exclusivity contract. If you're a genuine "gamer" and you have the spare income, it's a ridiculous notion to ignore consoles or to entertain a platform war. Just play good games.
@@Ser-- Just a disclaimer: I had a PS3 before a PC and got a PS4Pro November 2018 for 3 PS exclusives (now it's only 1 because they've come to PC): I think Sony shoots itself in the foot when they don't bring ***old exclusives*** to PC/other platforms. There's nothing to benefit from keeping - for example - God of War 1 and 2 as PS2 exclusives or LittleBigPlanet 1/2 as PS3 exclusives because they're not earning them money. PS2's and 3's aren't developed anymore (they're 2nd hand) and GoW1/2 and LBP1/2 isn't being sold anymore (they're 2nd hand) so they're just sitting on a gold mine doing nothing with it. Understandably they want exclusives for their current platform but anything older that serves no use in that scenario should be ported to PC officially. They can then just earn money from even more sales and gamers can forever enjoy it without it being lost to time or relying on emulation. I mean, I'd kill for a LittleBigPlanet 2 PC release. It's possibly my favourite game of all time and having it on PC at higher resolution, higher framerates, native mouse controls in the editor and with a higher cap on level complexity would be incredible. Alas, Sony doesn't want my money.
I think that when a lot of people think about 30fps the image they get is from poorly framepaced 30fps. That's the actual problem, not the framerate itself. Constant 33.3 ms frametime 30fps is perfectly smooth to me.
@@vampiszon6620 yes correct, I'm sure the patch will be available for this game day one, they said the best 100 games to start...I don't know anyone who could argue that bloodborne is not on the top 10 best PS4 games.

@@Avean It IS that good. You should take a break though if you've played the others recently so that you don't feel burnt out - it's still pretty similar to DS while being a bit different.
@@Avean It's my favorite out of all of them so I highly recommend trying it out if you get the chance. No reason to be worried too much about difficulty either, especially with so much experience with souls games now. Bloodborne is challenging but unlike Sekiro, you can always grind and get more powerful if you hit a wall. Sekiro isn't as forgiving in that way...
@@Avean In terms of art direction it is the best of the lot in my humble subjective opinion, with some astounding scenes/settings. I also fell in love with the faster rhythm of the gameplay but still very close to what you're used to from the Souls games. The base game is not that hard, definitely easier than Sekiro. The DLC is another matter :-P - however - the DLC contains three of the most epic boss fights in the entire soulsborne series so it's essential as well!
I don't understand how From couldn't have known how to cap the game to 30fps without creating this frame-pacing issue. They have the ability to make a full game in their own bespoke game engine but can't effectively cap the frame rate? Just doesn't make sense, that would be like building a car from scratch but not being able to figure out how to change the tyres. There must be more to the story of how and why that decision was made.
It's not about the release date. It's the engine they use; it has always suffered from these issues. Just stubborn japanese devs who refuse to use superior western engines.
@@junaidzaka2365 I don't know about how bad the engine is, I admit that Bloodborne on PS4 has issues but Dark Souls 3 ran really well on release on my not super amazing PC. I was actually impressed at how optimized it was.
It might be deliberate and response time related. The longer you wait to display a frame the greater the discrepancy between player input and visible results leading to variable input lag. By feathering between 16ms and 50ms this means that more (but not all) frames are closer to the point the player pressed the dodge button. Just like frame tearing, some players will be angered by it, others will appreciate the lowered response time. I tend to think From meant to do this because updating your game tick rate based on vsync is surely easier than taking momentary time sampling and extrapolating from there.
It's so much better than any exclusive on ps4. I don't understand why ps4 fanboys think unoriginal garbage like God Of War is better than this masterpiece.
I do think at this point, the game it's in Sony's hands and it's up to them if they could ship it again via remastered in PS5. But we do hope Sony would again invest to make sequel of Bloodborne, Miyazaki said it's up to Sony if they're still willing to work from them and this tells us there's still a possibility when Elden Ring is finished.
Below 30fps framerate plus heavy motion blur trigger my motion sickness. I did not finish the game because of it. It's a shame such a good game makes me sick. I really hope ps4 pro or ps5 patch can push its framerate to 60.
The real benchmark is Lecture Hall 1st floor. That conference room full of mobs is the real bullshit. If you open that door without entering, and you keep exploring the corridor, the game breaks to pieces reaching something like 10fps on ps4pro.
7:52 Indeed. And that's how it is in every single time I go after playing a game 60 fps or more to 30 fps game! People need to stop saying asinine things like "smooth 30 fps" "30 is fine" "30 fps cap was the right choice". Until that happens, things won't change for the better! Gamers need to demand high frame-rates and stop forgive 30 fps!
Wow that is so great that Lance was the one to do this and he ended up on this episode. I've always loved his work so this was a surprising and great collaboration.
TriksterHD Ikr, especially with the way how modular games are usually developed these days, I really see no reason for not giving console users the same or at least a simplified options menu. But even then, just hide it under an „advanced“ button that needs to be toggled first or something.

@Hersh Shorsh Miyazaki did not say no. He said that there are currently no plans to develop it, and that was literally years ago. We have no idea what is currently in development. The decision whether or not to make Bloodborne 2 is not Miyazaki's, its Sony's. It is Miyazaki's decision whether or not he wants to take part in that development, but it isn't his decision whether or not it gets developed.
For the people complaining about 720p, it's not like the game has amazing textures anyway. They were fine for the time but some of the details didn't age well at all. If anything a downgraded resolution would make those even less noticeable. 60fps on the other hand should have been a n°1 concern in an action heavy game.
1080p doesn't matter for bloodborne anyway, still too jaggy, looks like they didn't even bother with good FXAA... At least in 720p ~60 fps it's less input lag which is something you do notice a lot more🤔

As soon as I heard they are only making some games backwards compatible I knew Bloodborne wasn’t going to be in that list. Prepare to pay $60 for a remaster.
They probably won't. The PS5 could run it at 1080x60 but not at 4Kx60. The next gen's buzzword is 4K, so they won't do it mainly for marketing reasons.
They address it in the video. Probably wouldn't have put the PS4 Pro in the best light if it made games run at a lower resolution than the base PS4. Of course they could have given the game a quality vs performance option like so many other Pro patched games, but I guess that would have meant more work.

Even 1080p is laughable. That resolution has been the norm for nearly 17 years.
Remember when the current console generation was supposed to be the "60 fps generation"?
Depends on the game. Spider-Man and God of War were fine because they were optimized to be stable. What's inexcuseable is when it drops below 30 for no reason other than the developers not caring enough to optimize the software.

For me, I had to pay a couple hundred extra bucks, just to play a game at half the resolution, and a fifth of the framerate, it isn't even like theres anything special the playstation does to justify needing specific hardware.
@@Ser-- Just a disclaimer: I had a PS3 before a PC and got a PS4Pro November 2018 for 3 PS exclusives (now it's only 1 because they've come to PC):
I think Sony shoots itself in the foot when they don't bring ***old exclusives*** to PC/other platforms.

Just doesn't make sense, that would be like building a car from scratch but not being able to figure out how to change the tyres.
There must be more to the story of how and why that decision was made.
@Garfield Apparently there's "lock day" for devs. Past this "lock day", devs can't make any changes to the game.
I agree, why have they never even patched it? even though they continued support with a pretty large DLC. There has to be more to it.

One of the best games on PS4 (if not the best) and it deserves a bit of respect, give back to the fans that made it this successful.
Just recently got the platinum and I would love to play it again in 720, ~60. It looks fantastic, great work!
Played Bloodborne yesterday on my PS4 and found it almost depressing to play at its ropey 30fps. I just hope Sony and Fromsoft finally patch it someday but God only knows when lol.
Horizon on PC does give me hope for this game.....
Bloodborne should be one of the optimized games for ps5
Wow, Digital Foundry can read my mind, a couple day ago i was thinking about "Bloodborne would be fantastic if it can run 60fps on my PS4 Pro" and today i see this video pop up
For anyone wondering how to get a hold of this mod, the author has said that when the PS5 is released and if Bloodborne has no FPS improvements through backwards compatibility, he will make the mod public. You will still need a modded PS4 though
Anyone who works in x86 assembly is basically a wizard.
Haha, yes!
why cant sony just make this patch real
Because Sony didn't make the game...
i'd be happier with a PC version tbh, i have no idea why they havent done it yet
@@pdk-qx9yg Sony owns the property and their world-wide studios helped with the game. It's up to Sony if they wanna bankroll the patch, not From.
@@TheAbram099 They are busy making Elden Ring. Even if Sony threw money at them to do it, they wouldn't. What they do is ultimately up to them.
@@pdk-qx9yg Not necessarily. For instance, Dark Souls 1 remaster was outscored by Bamco and we got a Switch port. And since one dude reverse engineered the code and got it to work, you would think that a team who gets the source code could get a nice 4k@60 patch done somewhat easily. It's just a freaking waste to have this great game stuck with shitty performance once we get a fuckton of more power with PS5. Microsoft is doing wonders with their backlog like they mentioned in the vid, why can't Sony put some work? It would be a bad sight to abandon one of the most beloved games of this gen.
Now imagine this running at 120fps on PS5 xD
that would be GODLIKE
@@denisn8336 - at 1080p, it should be possible.

really enjoy the vids lance makes (really liked the P.T. one too), cool, informative vid all
I was working at PlayStation back in 2015 when we launched Bloodborne and even though it was hard work, it was a wonderful experience working on this title. Still my favourite PS4 game.
