So when the doctor mentions Gallifrey in ireland, he mentions his parents who are called Sydney and Verity. Sydney Newman was the man who created Doctor Who and Verity Lambert was the first ever producer of the show!

It was based on a Doctor Who book featuring the 7th doctor from our “dark ages” (we call it the wilderness years) of the show when we thought Doctor Who was gone. Seeing one of the most popular non-show stories adapted into the show was amazing and they did a terrific job.

They actually did explain how the husband got The Sun in the last episode, but it was bink-and-you'd-miss-it. The captain, his wife, had been illegally harvesting material from the sun's corona as cheap fuel(?) and had accidentally scooped up one of the sun creatures in the process. The implication was that he'd come into contact with it that way.

Here is the full transcript of what David Tennant said in the video to Martha - it was mostly time-filler since they knew it would be fast-forwarded, but as such it's entertaining as it's Tennant riffing to make it look like real content:
This working? Martha, before I change, here's a list of instructions for when I'm human.
One, don't let me hurt anyone. We can't have that, but you know what humans are like.
Two, don't worry about the Tardis. I'll put it on emergency power so they can't detect it. Just let it hide away.
Four. No, wait a minute, three. No getting involved in big historical events.
Four, you. Don't let me abandon you.
And five. Very important, five. Don't let me eat pears. I hate pears.
John Smith is a character I made up, but I won't know that. I'll think I am him, and he might do something stupid like eat a pear. In three months, I don't want to wake up and be human and taste that. And six. Now I have to talk for around about a minute without hesitation, deviation, or whatever the other thing is. It's like that panel game on Channel Four, like Rory just pointed out. However, I'm going to move on and say number seven, and talk about my other favourite band, which is the Housemartins. I don't know if anyone remembers the Housemartins, but the best gig I ever went to was at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in about December, it must have been 1990, and the Housemartins were playing, and it was quite simply the best gig I've ever been to. They split up quite soon afterwards; I don't know what that tells you about that particular event. I'm sitting in the TARDIS now, and I'm going to wind up soon, but not before I make a few strange noises with my mouth that will go somewhere along the lines of bingle bongle dingle dangle yikkety-doo yikkety-dah ping pong lippy tuppy too tah.
And twenty-three. If anything goes wrong, if they find us, Martha, then you know what to do. Open the watch. Everything I am is kept safe in there.
Now, I've put a perception filter on it so the human me won't think anything of it. To him, it's just a watch. But don't open it unless you have to. Because once it's open, then the Family will be able to find me. It's all down to you, Martha. Your choice. Oh, and thank you.

Human Nature/Family of Blood is my favourite DW story, full stop. Lots has been said about another episode this season, but honestly you can keep it. Human Nature/Family of Blood has no gimmicks, just real shit done right. It has Martha being a COMPLETE utter fucking bad-ass, getting some time to showcase how she does on her own, and also actually engaging with the reality of her travelling in time as a black woman, it has Tennant getting to stretch his acting muscles with a new character, it has incredible performances from the whole cast (I hardly want to highlight anyone because EVERYone does a phenomenal job but Harry Lloyd and Tennant both do particularly amazing jobs), it has an enjoyably twisty plot, it has gorgeous dialogue, it has a really cool, under-the-radar place in the season arc, and it's a historical episode that actually feels like it's saying something instead of feeling a little like walking through the kids section of a history museum. I adore it. For a long time I really wanted the writer to take over when Moffat was done as showrunner, just on the strength of these two episodes.

So during the part that Martha fast forwarded though they had David say a bunch of lines. So they would have less editing cause it would actually just be speed up footage.
But because it was gonna be fast forwarded and not actually be heard in the the episode David just said a bunch of nonsense. The unedited version where it's not sped up is easily found on UA-cam. It's funny. You should watch it. Even though it was just nonsense everyone (for the lols) sees it as cannon so it adds in some funny lore to the Doctor.
And future Doctors make references to it.

Respect for whoever stuck the Spaced DVD cover into the edit there. Absolutely seminal bit of work, and vastly under appreciated on UA-cam, despite it being the start of collab between Pegg, Frost, Wright and Park. Also, you're not wrong about this being a lovely story - it's based on a DW Novel written a decade or so earlier by friends in the fandom, and it was one of the best novels in the series when it was written too. This adaptation does it justice.

For me this two parter and the following unrelated episode are the absolute peak of the 10th Doctor era. Great, brilliantly written stories featuring fascinating concepts and characters with superb acting throughout by all concerned and packing a real emotional punch. I won't say any more until after the next episode reaction.

Fun fact: This episode and its second part is actually an adaptation of a novel from the 90s starring the Seventh Doctor (who's played by Sylvester McCoy, who was also Radagast the Brown in the Hobbit movies). Russell T. Davis liked it so much that he brought the author of the book, Paul Cornell, on board to adapt it into this two-parter.

Nearly 25 years ago, Jessica Hynes (Nurse Redfern's actress) co-starred and co-wrote a little Britcom called Spaced. Her writing partner and co-star was a theater pal by the name of Simon Pegg. Their director was a guy named Edgar Wright. Nick Frost also co-starred, having had little acting experience before this point. She may not have risen to the same renown as her collaborators, but she's extremely talented in her own right.

My understanding (this may all be head cannon, formed after watching the episode the first time) of the events from "42" were that the life force in the sun was a swarm of creatures, and the ship's ram scoop collected some of them when they scooped the sun for fuel. I believe the captain's husband was working on the ram scoop's system and that was where/when the transfer occurred.
