Technical, I see minimal reason for hard sparring, maybe a few times in camp at a different gym to hone your techniques and limit your own mistakes! Are those white T-shirts some of these guys were wearing some Siam boxing merch?

light technical is the only way to apply and learn and apply new techniques! hard sparring imo should only be reserved for fighters and even then only during certain parts of camp.

I agree! I think hard sparring has its pros for helping fighters such as Dutch kickboxers have the equivalent experience of fighting to prepare for actual fights more since they don’t train and fight in a young age like Thai fighters, but hard sparring is still somewhat harmful to the fighters and opponents so having a hard sparring day every week for a fighting gym and making the rest of the other days technical and light sparring is good from my perspective!

If you want to feel real toughness and grit, hard sparring is the way to go.
If you want to learn and grow, light sparring is the way to go.
And if you want a balance of both, combine the both but egos need to be put aside

good stuff boys! Canadian here in Japan who took up muay Thai about 5 months ago. pretty much 98% of our sparring in the gym is technical because my sensei said the point of sparring is not to knock the other person down, but to improve our coordination, combos, form, spacing and timing. Of course time and place for everything such as a hard spar.

Now you should have 1 year experience, if you didn't miss the training :D
So if you don't miss it, what can you say now ? Or maybe better give some advice for beginners, like me, I am only 2 months into Muay Thai now =)

@@krapixx4275 I moved to an mma gym after 10 months of training as I built a pretty good base for striking. Now working on my wrestling and bjj so I can piece the puzzle together. So glad I started off in a Thai gym just to rep out the basics.

I used to like to spar hard. I was a fan of coming in Friday nights and throwing down.
But these days, I’m all about light technical sparing.
Save your brain cells for the ring Ladies and Gentlemen. You aren’t going to “Win” at sparing.
Keep it competitive and fun, but you really don’t have to crush each other to become a better fighter.
Put everything you got into smashing pads though.
But when it comes to sparing, 50% - 70% Max power is really all you need 🙏🏼
