Ontario Highway 401 - Etobicoke to Kitchener - Toronto Freeways - July, 2023

- Drivelapse video of Highway 401 through the western Greater Toronto Area starting from Etobicoke in western Toronto on the 427 and then heading westerly through Scarborough and Milton, before heading around the southern side of Guelph and then between Cambridge and Kitchener in Waterloo Region. Construction to widen the 401 between Milton and Mississauga was more or less complete when this video was filmed.

Fun fact: Prilemary work began with the Mississauga road overpass in 2002-2003 and McLaughlin Road overpass in 2008. Substantial work began on August 19, 2009 from 410 to Mavis Road and was completed in 2013. From 2016-2020, the express collector system was extended westward to Credit River. Finally from 2019-2022 the highway was expanded westward to RR 25. The substantial work is almost complete with final layers of paving still need to be done which should be achieved by August. So far this substantial work took 14 years to do from 2009 to 2023.
The new 401 lanes is STUNNING! I'm guessing the entire highway starting from Highway 25 to Cambridge will be completely 10 lanes by the end of the decade.

You should film the 401 from Mississauga to Milton at night. It looks spectacular!!

Love the drive through the 401 from city to forest and I can't believe they still want more lanes to Cambridge
Amazing! Your GTA area stuff is always a blast to watch. Pretty impressive how much traffic there is even at the edge of the Greater Toronto area. Looks like they'll have to extend the express lanes even further west lol.
to be honest, traffic isn't usually that bad westbound through Milton. However, as a general rule, there simply aren't enough lanes in Toronto.

On Friday, crews have completed the eastern end of the project (Hwy 8 to Townline), which includes the new HOV Lanes opened. I wonder if you can do driving video both EB & WB direction?

So happy to see you again Asphalt. I've noticed that you've been less active lately on uploading. Ig it's bc you were on vacation as well. It's ok, me & my family just started our vacations. Ofc, it's really cool to see the construction is still going on. Can't wait to see how it'll look like once completed. Did you also know that A-50 has been renamed Autoroute Guy Lafleur (Guy Lafleur Highway), in honor of the famous hockey player who had died from cancer last year.
Also, in Ottawa/Gatineau there were some very strong Thunderstorms with strong winds & hail where several people had no power this morning, nearly 20 000 peoples, as I could read. Some could have to wait for several days before it comes back, mostly for some resident of Westboro neighborhood (At the west of Ottawa).
I saw that A-50 had been designated for Guy Lafleur. I think that's a good name for Autoroute 50. Thanks for the comment.

Love driving this road but there is *far* too much traffic on it. They need to build alternative means of transit, it can't expand forever
2:43 isn't it a bit late for that sign, since we're past our last access to the 403 by the point?
EDIT: i forgot we could access the 403 from the 407. Duhhhhh😂
I thought the same thing about the COMPASS sign when I first drove beneath it too. It must have just happened, because the sign just west of the 427 just showed travel tims.

It’s a shame to see the bottleneck through Milton. But hopefully soon enough they widen the 401 all the way to Cambridge.
