Thank you so much. I offered to make a person at work a quilt for his son. I asked him what him what his son was into so I had an idea what kind of quilt I would make for him. I thought it odd he couldn’t tell me. The next day he told me he liked green. I said okay that gives me an idea to start with. Then the following day he pulled me aside and asked me if I could do a puzzle quilt because he was autistic. This video is going to help so I can actually make it!
Sitting here with my mouth hanging open. I will be making one of these just because! Happy it is small so I can just give it a try. It might turn into a small wall hanging for our autism class room at school. With nice bright colors! Thank you.
I love the look and seems easy enough I could do it lol. My Grandmother is no longer alive but she was obsessed with puzzles. I will make one in her memory. Thank you again. Love how you teach
Love this quilt. Going to have to make it with my grandson. He has discovered my stash of fabric and loves to put pieces on the design wall. Thanks for such a fun quilt.
I have always wanted to know how to do a puzzle quilt. I love puzzles but being a puzzle nerd I will leave the pieces off of the border to let them creat the frame. I can't wait to make this. Thank you
I am in the midst of making my first simple quilt with 10 in squares with a half square sewn on to the big square. Its very simple but im doing my best to teach myself. This puzzle piece quilt will be my fun to make winter quilt to either make as a throw or maybe a wall hanging. I just think your beautiful voice and this fun fantastic pattern will keep my sanity this winter. I may make a couple or maybe 3. Gifts. I have to watch and listen again to get it right. Ha...im making queen size quilt now. I thought i had a lot of fabric until i had ro make 90 10.5 squares. Lol i still dont have a backing but i have my 100% warm n natural batting. Im thinking of just some natural muslin for the backing. I can hand embroider some small sweet things on each area where the front is a square. Im not sure. I cannot afford 8 yds of an expensive fabric. But muslin i can figure out in the budget. I can even dye muslin easily. But there is a nice cotton flat sheet i could use too. I dont know if anyones used a flat sheet but i dont see why a cotton one wouldnt work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’ve been fascinated with this quilt pattern for a couple of years because our children LOVE puzzles and I’ve wanted to make one for them. You explain it so well. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
A great way to incorporate QUAG into a fun and easy puzzle quilt. Using charm packs is brilliant as it saves so much cutting time as well as providing accurate squares. I will definitely be making one of these as my family all know I love puzzles!👏🏻👍🏻🥰
❤❤ that is so darn cute, I like the way you quilted it. Your newsletter was good and it reminded my that I missed your video yesterday. I agreed when you said the sewing room is your happy place and you want to spend more time in it. I’m thinking I really need to spend more time in my sewing room. Thank you for another great video Laura. 😊
Your plant is beautiful (mine is growing & needs repotting). This quilt MIGHT be beyond my level of patience but it is very interesting & pretty. Think my sister made a traditional puzzle quilt to hang in a quilt shop.
Laura, this is amazing... I absolutely love this and I'm going to have to give it a try. Quilting on my machine is not something I've done much of. but I think it's well worth it for this quilt. Thank you for including the little pegs. Love your shows. 🧵
Sooo cute! You really make things look easy….even using your Bernina looks easy. I’ve had a Bernina for 3 months but haven’t dared to try quilting or embroidering with it yet….afraid I might ruin it or something! Thanks so much for the tute….you’re AMAZING!
Check with the shop you bought your machine at. They "should" offer mastery classes for all of the brands they sell. My shop, Sew Yeah Quilting in Las Vegas, NV offers them monthly. My Brother class is next week and I can't wait. It's about a $300 dollar class but free because I bought my machine from them. Even JoAnn's has classes on the better machines.
@@jeannemcmillintwinlakeses3767 So, I had a brother but it kept skipping stitches and they couldn’t find WHY….I ended up biting the bullet and got the Bernina 735….there is a bit of a learning curve with Bernina!!! But, they do offer some classes. I took the Black Bobbin class that gave me the basics, but couldn’t remember much after driving two hours home! (I live in Rural Utah so have to drive to the BIG CITY for everything😩) I need a class where I get to do it, not watch while someone that is very familiar with the machine just quickly runs through it saying “if you push this button you can change this setting). I had so much in my head the only thing I remembered was how to switch a decorative stitch going to the left, to the right! (Which was helpful when I was doing decorative stitches for Christmas!). I know this machine is capable of lots, and I mainly just do piecing…..WHY DID I PAY SO MUCH FOR A MACHINE IF ALL I AM GOING TO DO IS PIECE???🤔🙁🙄 I will never know….but I better start quilting and embroidering soon so I can feel like I haven’t made a 💲huge 💲mistake.
I use my manual a lot and also check UA-cam for information When I started out I made sampler pieces for various stitches I made muslin sandwiches with the batting I typically use and sewed samples of stitches. I wrote notes in pen next to each section. Example: straight stitch: sew an inch at the default setting, stop, increase the SL , sew an inch, and repeat. I did the same with the zigzag stitch, marking SL & SL. It’s saved me a lot of time over the years.
Rita: you CAN ruin your machine but you have to work at it! 🙃 Thread it properly, use quality threads and sharp needles, clean and oil it as needed and just PLAY Try making some samples. You can use 2 pieces of muslin and just have at it. But most of all just relax and have fun.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have always loved the puzzle pattern, but until seeing this video I was always afraid to try it. And you even include the end pieces for us! You are truly an awesome artist. 👍🏻💖👵🏻
I love this little puzzle quilt It is so cute. I can see this made up in so many different fabrics. Thanks for this tutorial and the suggestions on applicating and quilting at the same time. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I want to thank you for sharing your ideas. I'm not sure how many time I've watched this video trying to figure out how to enlarge the knobs. I like making big block quilts. I would like to use layer cakes instead of charm packs. I know the puzzle knob has to be bigger for 10" square. Can you help me figure this out. Thanks again for all your ideas.
Hi Laura, I received an email that appears to be a reply to my comment. It says I won a prize? And to claim it via Tele_gram. I don’t use that app, so if this is legit (so many scams, I’m very careful) please advise another way to claim it. Thanks again for this tutorial, just love it!
As usual, another wonderful tutorial well-explained. Which version of the Bernina sewing machine are you using? I have the 475qe and the 790plus. I am still a bit intimidated with the 790plus but I think it might be a better fit for squeezing the bulk of the puzzle quilt underneath the harp. I am on a big learning curve with both machines but want to try the method you show there with switching stitches as you appliqué. Thanks for this delightful design. I too love the puzzle protruding into the border and the look from the back.🪡🧵🌟💕
I’m so glad there are others out there that feel intimidated by their Bernina! I got my 735 in October and took the Black Bobbin Class. By the time I drove over 2 hours home I had forgotten nearly everything! If I don’t get to do it myself (instead of watching them do it) I don’t retain it! So frustrating to spend all of this MONEY on a machine and not be able to know how to run it. YOU TUBE has been great so far.
I live about an hour from my dealership and did sign up for the lessons that came with the machine that was supposed to familiarize you with all their features. Mostly it was as you said watch someone else do it and push a bunch of buttons to say you can do this and that. By the time I got home O had a headache and was confused by all the options and choices that I could not remember anything. I was encouraged to call the shop. Even bought the BIG Bernina books for reference. Then COVID hit and the remaining lessons were in Zoom…not good for hands on experience. Alas, I am determined to be patient and learn so I will take my time. I will also continue to be inspired by Laura. Thank you Laura!💖🪡🧵
I have learned so much from you. Your teaching method really works for me and your projects are within my reach as a beginning quilter. I bought your book and plsn to make some of those quilts. Thank you!
Thank you this is so cute I’m going to try to do this one thing I don’t know how to use the print paper have you got a video how to transfer and print that will help me a lot thank you for sharing
Puzzle quilts have always looked so difficult, but you made it look more understandable. I don’t think I would be able to do all the twisting and turning to quilt and appliqué at the same time. I would probably appliqué my pieces about every 4 patch and then finish appliquéing as I joined rows. Then, I could quilt in straight rows. Do you think that would work? I know the quilting on the back would not look as pretty.
I think I’d do the appliqué in small doses as I was making the top and then quilt free motion and just sew close to pegs. OR I would do raw edge appliqué while piecing. I can do free motion zigzag on my Bernina but I don’t think I could control that well enough around the curves.
I have noticed many ways to do a puzzle quilt. All cute but I didn't get excited about actually making one. . . Until now. Thank you for sharing this.
I agree Valerie. Laura you make this look "sew very easy" thank you ❤️
Agree. This looks like I can do this. Others were complicated or confusing. Thanks Laura! Amazing as always
And the pdf might be for the puzzle template? I am still watching. This is very cool.
Love this! Instead of buying three charm packs I’m going to use a layer cake and cut it into five inch squares.
That's what i thought too!!
Sitting here with my mouth hanging open. I will be making one of these just because! Happy it is small so I can just give it a try. It might turn into a small wall hanging for our autism class room at school. With nice bright colors! Thank you.
Talk about a "DUH"! moment! Thank you so much for this!
Love this quilt. I have an autistic son. So the puzzle pieces have a special meaning to me. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I made one for my autistic grandson many years ago. He loved it!
I love the look and seems easy enough I could do it lol.
My Grandmother is no longer alive but she was obsessed with puzzles. I will make one in her memory.
Thank you again.
Love how you teach
Cute, but I think I would make either my blocks bigger or my puzzle piece smaller. Thanks for the tips!
I would make the knobs with a little different shapes like puzzles have. It looks so fun.
My granddaughters, Marley and Rain, watched this with me. They love the quilt. Thanks.
Love this quilt. Going to have to make it with my grandson. He has discovered my stash of fabric and loves to put pieces on the design wall. Thanks for such a fun quilt.
Love your quilt! I think I will make a puzzle quilt for my grandchildren! A great way to make an eye spy quilt! Love it! Thank you! 😀❤️😀
This is one of the cutest n easiest quilts ever. Love how u can quilt n appliqué everything at once.
That is so very awesome Laura! Thank you for sharing your work with us.
I have always wanted to know how to do a puzzle quilt. I love puzzles but being a puzzle nerd I will leave the pieces off of the border to let them creat the frame. I can't wait to make this. Thank you
what an amazing quilt. it has such an old hand quilted look to it. impressive. thanks.
Cute, Cute, Cute! I love this idea! Thank you Laura for another quick quilt!
love it!!
I would listen to you all day. You are Brilliant. Love from. Ireland ❤
Love this. Another quilt to go on to the 'to do' list 😆
Adorable quilt! I've seen other puzzle quilts that have square "pegs" on the pieces, but these round ones look so much better!
Somehow I've never seen a puzzle quilt before. This is interesting.

I have a Bernina 590. Will you be so kind as to share you stitch length for the straight and zigzag? Thank you.
What a cute idea for a baby quilt. I have a bunch of odds and end baby material that would work great for this project. Thanks for the idea!
A great way to incorporate QUAG into a fun and easy puzzle quilt. Using charm packs is brilliant as it saves so much cutting time as well as providing accurate squares. I will definitely be making one of these as my family all know I love puzzles!👏🏻👍🏻🥰
This is adorable. I think it would make a sweet baby quilt.
I've never seen a puzzle quilt, how clever! Thank you for such a clear tutorial, it's beautiful.

It looks so complicated but the explanation seems very easy. For the tutorial.
I love watching your tutorials, you are so clear with instructions, thank you, this is beautiful.
That is the cutest quilt ever. Thank you for sharing.
Wow 😮 you have way more in patience than I do. Especially with the quilting/appliqué.
Fantastic presentation!!! I have a grandson who would love this. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us.
Such a great way to do a puzzle quilt. Thank you for the tutorial.
Your plant is beautiful (mine is growing & needs repotting). This quilt MIGHT be beyond my level of patience but it is very interesting & pretty. Think my sister made a traditional puzzle quilt to hang in a quilt shop.
So cute! Going to use pattern for a table runner/ table topper! Thank you!😊
😎😎😎 quilt blanket. I will make one for my niece’s baby. That is unique blanket I like it
Un trabajo maravilloso, lo tengo como un reto. Y menos mal porque la pieza plegable circular que hace la forma del puzzle no lo había visto. Gracias.
This is SO cool! I have some friends who are big on jigsaw puzzles. If I get started now, I might have a quilt ready to give them for Christmas! 😉
You really made it easy from the start to the finish!
Such aclever idea. Keeps you thinking. Thanks.
This is a great way to make a puzzle quilt!

I would leave the pieces off the border so that it looks like a real puzzle. Thanks for tutorial, this looks like a very easy way.
Now that is sharp. This looks fun enough that i will doon have to make one.
Love your quilt.I love puzzles .Will try to make a mini one.Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have always loved the puzzle pattern, but until seeing this video I was always afraid to try it. And you even include the end pieces for us! You are truly an awesome artist. 👍🏻💖👵🏻
