actually while I was living in NYC, I never moved my car for sweeping because the tickets fine I got every month is cheaper than garage parking in Manhattan. Never got towed.
As a very salty Seattle driver who is very sick and tired of people parking wherever the hell they want all the time, I truly admire New Yorker's ability to simultaneously respect the public good and yet defend their own territory 😁
I live in Chicago and, actually, i wish they would ticket more on the side streets. A neighbor of mine (he lives by himself) had 7 junk cars and he would not move them. He kept removing the "no parking street cleaning" signs so he never got a ticket. if there is no sign then they can't get a ticket. They have to take a picture of the parked car and the sign in the same picture to issue a ticket...Thank God he finally moved. I used to sometimes have to walk 3 blocks just because of that guy.
Why have a car if all you ever do with it is move it to let the sweeper go past? A taxi would be cheaper. I used to have a car like that. Then one day I realised all I ever did was pay to park, and that a taxi would be cheaper. So I got rid of it. Saved me a fortune.
if you live in a densly populated area consider selling your car and use public transportation you save money on gas, car insurance, and less anxietty since you don't have to waitfor the cleaning truck to come by. Not to mention traffic in a densly populated area won't be any faster than public transportation unless it metro.
leyuen San Francisco Bay Area mass transit is different. BART is filthy w/ crackhead bums leaving syringes & feces. Also burglary on the trains & even murder of 18 yo girl by a tweeker at the Oakland station.
Don't use a car in NYC, unless you absolutely have to- e.g. can't walk very well, commercial work, etc. Leave it somewhere in a value garage and commute to it when you do need it. Lots of shopping? Take a suitcase*, I'm serious. I don't get why more people don't do it. The city is painfully greedy for tickets. edit: baggage is multiple suitcases, my bad.
So they leave their car parked on the street until the next cleaning day? Do these people not use their cars to get to work? And if not, what is the purpose of even having it in the first place?
@@chcarroll5164 Park further away. Yeah, you'll have to commute to the car, but you really should not be using one in NYC unless you have no other choice.
Eh, living/working in NYC and having a car don't really go hand-in-hand these days. Best to just find a nearby garage with good rates and spend your time doing something more productive rather than play alternate parking merry-go-round and sit and do nothing just to save a few bucks. Just not worth it lol
Are people moving their cars twice a week, and scrambling back to park, only to let their car sit until it's time to repeat the exercise? In that case why bother? I live in a neighborhood in SF with all metered street parking, that turns into a bus lane for several hours each day, so I have no choice but to cough up the money for the garage.
No problem. Ditch the car and take the best transit city in America. One of only 3 cities in America where Buses and trains are more reliable than a car.
Guys, I don't feel sorry for these people at all but I see they are not wise. I live in LIC, NY (just out side of Manhattan). If you live in Manhattan you don't need a car simple. but these people want cars. there goes problem. Simple.
NYC made a massive mistake when it made overnight street parking free in the 50s. That was an awful mistake that, afaik, no other city made. 70 years later, this is the reality of our curb. I don't get ppl that put up with it.
Absolutely ridiculous! They need street cleaners with long reach arms that can go all the way under a car to the kerb. I'm pretty sure they exist. Also this never happens in Britain. The Cleaner just drives around.
What a ridiculous waste of life and time. Why live in NYC? I live in the crowded bay area, but it ain't as crowded as NYC. Thank Buddha. I have 5 acres of parking, and a 2 car garage.
Between the garage and the driveway I could park 6 cars, another 2 on the street in front. I have better things to do than spend hours each week parking a car.... and I spend A LOT LESS $$$ doing it.
Why TF would anyone ever want to live there? (Or any big city where just parking your car is such a debacle). Amazing what people get used to. No thanks!
This is a really fun little movie, a perfect slice of NYC!
Totally agree. As a non new Yorker, I found this extremely interesting and entertaining.
As an Australian i find that whole situation to be crazy. A Fascinating insight into life in NYC non the less.
Americans do a lot of things us Aussies find crazy. And vice versa.

Amazing!
What do you mean? In NYC, there are steet cleaning every week? Couldn't be cheaper then Garage.
Garage price around $500-600 in month, getting parking 5 tickets are $380 in month.
@@tenzackyogi1742 it wouldn’t get towed?
@@alexlee8639 Probably depends on the mood of the officers patrolling that area
Who else is watching this video on their phone while they are sitting in their car waiting for the street sweeper on ASP day?

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Wonderfully funny and insightful. Great job Ernie!

I have definitely admired empty spots, many times lol. I'd even call people who're with me and tell them about it. I didn't know other did it too.
10:42 oh yes finding a parking spot is always part of a conversation in New York lol.

I live on the UWS and own a car.
At least NYC street parking is not zoned like in Chicago where non residents of a neighborhood cannot park
This is fantastic! Really, really well done Mr. Fritz.

What exactly is a baggage? Do you mean the little 2-wheel cart for groceries?
Unwritten custom is for double parkers to leave their phone # in the dashboard so blocked cars can get out.
So they leave their car parked on the street until the next cleaning day? Do these people not use their cars to get to work? And if not, what is the purpose of even having it in the first place?
A JAAY this is why living in dense cities suck balls when owning a vehicle

Brian C too many car break ins in SF. I prefer to park my car at a BART station or take ride shares.
Omg!
Now if I can only get my neighbor to quit parking a 6x6 trailer in front of my mailbox.
Omg! This makes. Chicago Street sweeping once monthly look easy.
Thank God for public transportation, Uber, Lyft, and rental cars to get out of the city. Better yet, a personal driveway, and garage if you own a car.
This video makes me homesick for the UWS.
7:32 let the Game begin never seen something like that. 🇩🇪 really crazy.. ❤ the Citizens specially how they deal with that crazy Town..
One of the many reasons to not live in New York.

Zero_Code_Name_Reaper What he trying to say is that NYC is a city in the state of New York. So it's not just a city..........Yes we have farms
Both the city and the state sucks donkey dick. The city sucks it even more.
Every cities are like this, unless if you want to live in country side ;0
When does the series start?

wish we got a set day for when the street cleaner a comes then i could blow the leaves onto the road
Thank God I have a 4 car drive way .
I think I would star cleaning the road while waiting for the street cleaner, if everybody would do a bit it would be over in less time.

Do they have different laws in the states over there for this?
People who live in New York, have a higher stress level than the rest of the country.
ASP 2x week has nothing to do with cleaning the street - its about $1billion a year in parking ticket revenue - grow a pair NYC and vote this BS out
Remember "Scofflaws" ?
One word mad
OMG! I just got a car 😧
I never move 😅😅
No way your all crazy
If you double parking block somebody in right you can get a ticket your vehicle will be towed
Most people leave a note in their cars dashboard with their cell phone so the person can call you to move your car
Only in New York 🙊😅
And you fresh air crazies come south during the winter and don't know how to park.

Here I sit in Arkansas, 3 vehicles parked at the house none in the street, only a dimwit would live in NYC
And this New Yorker thinks only a dimwit would live anywhere (or nowhere) in Arkansas. ;)
Baleph Arkansas? That means two of the vehicles are up on blocks?
Theodore Marakas you know Queens is a part of NYC right?
@Theodore Marakas I live on SI and have a driveway, so no parking worries for me either. Plenty of on-street spaces too.
@Theodore Marakas No Alt Side Parking on Staten Island. Rockaways in the summer must be packed.

Lol this is foolishly senseless umm
I would paint parking spaces on the died of road and street sweeper not permitted and stuff like that lol
How blinking frustarting what is wrong with people these days is there like a dumbarse running city traffic
This is boring AF!!!!
